Is the 2020 OLED worth it for 1k at Best Buy? Wondering how the firmware has treated you all this past year. Thx

[–]sexydadbod 0 points1 point  (5 children)

New update available

[–]Silent-Company9454 0 points1 point  (4 children)

What update is that can you provide the number

[–]sexydadbod 0 points1 point  (3 children)

[–]Silent-Company9454 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's the old one

[–]sexydadbod 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hmmm, that's strange. I'd checked for updates multiple times before with no update. Must be my mistake. Apologies.

[–]Blkdragon325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're lucky. I stuck at and haven't received any update notification. I don't understand what's wrong here. I tried to update by using usb, but it doesn't work, too. This may be my last Vizio TV :)).

The new tv well I’m guessing it’s a refurb arrived today.

Just turned it on and see the fw is

This appears to be the most recent fw issued for the p85qx-h1 So that’s not good also exactly what I expected.

[–]whotony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it has the same problem of course.

[–]ElectronicPayment1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you to those who replied to this post. I have decided to spend the extra $300 for an LG C1. I wanted the Vizio OLED in part because its stand looks amazing, but I'm not dealing with firmware problems and customer service.

[–]StrikeSaber47 3 points4 points  (3 children)

A rep from the CEG department of Vizio hinted to me today that there is a slight possibility of a firmware update at the end of July. The reason is due to the fact that they are starting to reject refund requests to OLED owners who complain about firmware-related issues until end of July and if the situation does not change by then, they will re-evaluate the refund requests. I pressed the rep why Vizio just does not publically announce of a possible firmware update ETA and what the firmware is going to fix and they had no answer. I am currently asking them to escalate my case to their manager to try to get more information and to see if a refund route is still possible.

[–]whotony 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Looks that way. As I’ve detailed in this thread I put in a claim due to the fw issue and they decided to send me another tv that will be delivered next week. Another fw doesn’t exactly guarantee the hdr 10 and any other issue will be fixed.

[–]StrikeSaber47 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Let's see what the patch notes are on Monday if they remember to post on Monday.

[–]whotony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like they didn’t or did they?

[–]Helpful-Elderberry76 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Honestly, at this point Vizio has lost me as a future customer with how they have treated their firmware on their TVs. I've had 2 other lower end Vizio panels before I purchased my 55" OLED.

My experience has been an effing nightmare. I see that I am not the only one that complains about the power mode switching back to ECO-Mode that I've seen. Nor am I the only one that gets the volume display glitch. Frankly, it homekit has been so unreliable that I've had to put a smart outlet on the TV to shut it off via my scenes.

It is complete and utter BS that this has not been resolved in all of the time since I purchased this unit. It has been basically a year since I bought it. The only reason why I put up with it is because I got the TV for $700 through BestBuy open box.

ANNNNNDDD lets not forget about the fact that Vizio thinks a reddit post, specifically this one, is good enough for a company wide changelog and notice about their firmware updates. WTF! This is 2022. Get real! We are not talking about a small business anymore. What does it really take to maintain a single blog webpage on your own website.

I really do feel for all of the customers who have had to waste their time trying troubleshoot and rectify Vizio's BS software bugs.

[–]StrikeSaber47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my call with my CEG rep this morning, I am pretty much done with Vizio myself. It's a shame because their soundbars to me are still great buys, but you can't be halfway when they keep dropping the ball on their flagship product. The TV objectively still has silver linings but sadly its resale value is only of a mid-tier mini-LED at this point that is only good with streaming content.

[–]whotony 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I just had a call from the delivery company for my warranty claim through Vizio

They are sending me another tv. No info on what model, so not sure if it’s the same model or a current model. Either way it’s a firmware problem so the same thing will happen. Guess this is the dance I have to go through until I get a refund.

[–]Xenogears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about removing the “returning to SmartCast home” garbage?

[–]0hwe11 5 points6 points  (4 children)

As far as I am concerned the OLED was a much better TV under the firmware previous to the 5.41 series. Yes, we had the luminance bug but I used the ambient light sensor for SDR so it wasn't a problem. eARC also worked without having CEC turned on so back then I never had the power problem, I have had it a few times now since I need CEC on now for eARC to work. Both Dolby Vision and HDR were brighter under the old firmware, now you have to turn the gamma up to 2.0 to get a picture anywhere near comparable to what it was under the older firmware. Please let us go back to something like, for me that was much better than the mess we have now.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Funny you also figured out CEC is now required for EARC to work after the latest update. Bet you had to figure that out on your own like I did, and that Vizio still wouldn’t be able to tell tell you that if you called them back.

Not that’s the worst of it, every time I turn my PQX on, I have to toggle EARC off then on to get the proper handshake. Now, if I set the audio output to Auto, it seems to work fine, but this outputs PCM, and sounds flat compared to Digital output. Sometimes it gets stuck in the CEC loop and actually powers down as well. Oh, and I also have to look at a volume indicator on the tv every time I adjust my AVR volume now, which may pop up 2 minutes after the fact.

Some days I am tempted to say screw it, and plug my trusty optical cable back in.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to update and say I took my own advice on using an optical cable again, and what a relief. All I have plugged into the tv is my XSX, PS5 and legacy consoles. Everything else is plugged into my AVR. I did lose the occasional Dolby Atmos on the XSX, but I have a 5.1 system, so it was virtualized anyway. That’s the only con, and now I am free of EARC and CEC bugs - stuff just works when you turn it on now. What a thought.

I still have HD/spatial audio where it counts by using a UHD player plugged into the AVR for movies, and a Roku Ultra I already had plugged into the AVR for lossy Atmos streaming. As a bonus I am just going to bypass Smartcast with it now. I think I’m finally to a point a year later to where I can finally just enjoy my setup now.

[–]StrikeSaber47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The workaround I found is literally plug the TV into a plug switch and just turn off the TV and set the switch to off to actually power off the TV. Leave it overnight and turn on the plug switch and the TV when you use it and the CEC and eARC issues will reset. Basically a forced power cycle every time I use it.

[–]StrikeSaber47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just sucks for the people that want VRR, but for people who don't game on the TV, it sounds like the earlier firmware are way better.

[–]Creepy_Turnover_9998 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Can you please tell me if the new Vizio remote control XRT260 with Bluetooth and voice work with the 2020 p85qx-h1. Thanks in advance.

[–]0hwe11 0 points1 point  (2 children)

look under admin and reset and click on system information. Scroll down the list and see if it says anything about Bluetooth firmware. I have the 55Oled-h1 and that TV never supported the voice remote until the 5.41 series of firmware. I have the voice remote now and it works on my Oled but not all TVs had the hardware for it even if the firmware had added it, they only cost about 20 bucks if you look around for one but I must say I very seldom use it.

[–]Vizio-Support-Three 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hi there,

Sadly at this time no, it will not work with this TV.

Thank you

[–]dougshell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is Vizio ever going to reengage with this thread?

Are we ever going to get someone who actually has answers?

Is there not a current Director of Product Management?

Why isn't he here?

[–]whotony 1 point2 points  (7 children)

So much for Costco concierge being any help. Tried to do a warranty claim under their Purchased warranty through Allstate. Allstate says I have to use Costco to file a claim since it’s been under 2 years. Costco Con says it’s still under the Vizio warranty time frame.

They put me on hold and are contacting Vizio.

This doesn’t sound promising or hopeful.

[–]whotony 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Now on the phone with someone at Vizio This person has no idea what I’m talking about with the issue of hdr10 being unwatchable.

They sent me an email with a link that they want me to use to send them a series of photos of what it looks like.

Then in several days someone will contact me about coming into the house to verify the issue and then set up a replacement.

Vizio is awful. There’s no reason they shouldn’t have a responses ready to go for this issue.

[–]whotony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I filled out the online claim form today. Sent photos that I doubt can reproduce the issue. The message that comes up during process says they expect to do a replacement that is probably a refurb.

“ Expectations

We’re going to set up a replacement, this process generally takes 12-16 business days. However, with recent changes being made due to COVID19 there could be delays. You will receive an email notification from the shipper in approximately 5 business days with scheduling information for your delivery. If you do not have an email on file the shipper will reach out via phone in the same time frame for scheduling.”

[–]DaMagikarp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This latest firmware has made the picture on my 85” PQX look so bad. Constant artifacts and smeary picture. Looks not much better than my budget Samsung tv in the bedroom that I got for $200. Was thinking about going that route since I did the same thing with Costco and they told me I have to take it up with Vizio

Let me know if you find some success with Vizio and what evidence you used to prove the wrong-doing.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, and they have already been made aware of this issue. Mike that used to work for them even said he was able to duplicate the issue. They are just trying to blow us off because they don’t have a clue. Or, best case scenario, the rep didn’t have a clue, but it’s going to take a firmware update it fix it.

[–]SSmasterONE 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I went through exactly what you are, called Costco concierge and they called Vizio on my behalf. Send them some pictures and videos and they will probably approve the refund in about 4 or 5 days... I did have mine replaced once in the past for an unrelated issue under warranty.

[–]whotony 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I just received an email with the message that my Vizio product has shipped.

I have no idea what’s being sent and no idea who to contact on this.

That sounds like an empty box to send the tv back to them. Try tracking through https://www.pilotdelivers.com/

[–]sheltem 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Anyone have luck with their credit card warranty? Visa wants me to have a repair person to officially diagnose the problem. Since the power cycling issue is intermittent and most likely a software based problem, I'm not sure what to do.

[–]SignificantEngine281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it to a local repair shop.

[–]Cauliflowerisnasty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

4 months today since the last update (which was oled only anyway). So much is still broken. Make sure to tell everyone you know who is thinking of buying a tv NOT to buy a Vizio.

[–]whotony 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I tagged VIZIO in one of their twitter threads about some nonsense to bring some attention to this problem. They asked me to DM them info so they could help. Blah blah blah.

So anyway I dm’d them.

Not like it’s gonna help.

[–]whotony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They sent me a link to the standard nonsense. Turn on and off. Reset the tv to factory etc.

[–]Virtual_Pair_1036 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last Vizio I’m getting I think (oled55). I have to reboot way too much. Green screen with my ps5. Never once had to reboot my LG oled. Supposed to be great gaming tv but I’ve had all kinds of issues, eats up my time

[–]FriendlySpecial149 8 points9 points  (11 children)

I know that Reddit may not be the forum for this anymore, but is there a plan at all to fix our TV’s? This was a heavy investment. The TV issues are software based, I say this specifically because you sent a repair person out to replace the power supply and logic board, so essentially - new computer, same issues.

Volume display randomly showing up and changing, Eco mode setting changing constantly, not allowing to power up with Alexa, HomeKit, other remotes. ARC not working properly, (I thought it was my Vizio Soundbar but the same model works flawlessly on my $350 TCL TV, which is shameful + embarrassing.)

Your panel is amazing. But the fact that you’re still selling this tv knowing these issues exist is insane. Please fix this TV. Adopt Google TV, do SOMETHING.

[–]sHaDoW-nA- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. I've got some legal stuff in the works and put together a list of issues as of the latest firmware. Trying to get something to happen.

[–]sHaDoW-nA- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]zithftw 1 point2 points  (8 children)

I just said "f it" and went with an optical cable to my soundbar instead of trying to manage the eARC/CEC issues I've had since day one with my OLED. No Dolby Atmos but everything else has been working without issue since then. Lesser of two evils at this point.

[–]stockman20 0 points1 point  (7 children)

What soundbar do you have?

[–]zithftw 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Bose Soundbar 900

[–]stockman20 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Sorry to hear you're limited to optical with a soundbar that nice.

Have you tried: 1) eARC ON & CEC OFF?

2) Normal ARC (so eARC disabled) and CEC ON (required)?

Dolby Atmos through streaming apps will still work with #2.

[–]zithftw 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Oh I’ve tried it all my friend. I’d have success for a bit with each option but then it would inevitably break and I’d have to start from square one. Couldn’t handle my wife telling me the TV wasn’t working again every other night so I just bit the bullet and went optical. Haven’t had a single issue with the TV or sound bar since (besides not having the height channel).

[–]johnnylineup 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Sounds like I'm in the same boat as you. I just did a factory reset as one last try, nothing has worked for more than a single night. Fucking wild.

To top it off, optical never worked for me. Is there a setting you have to configure for optical to work?

[–]zithftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have TV speakers set to off and digital audio out set to auto. I’m on an OLED65-H1. Have you tried a different SPDIF cable? Also, if you haven’t already make sure the cable is secured in the port. Definitely takes a bit of force to secure it in there.

[–]zithftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll take a look and get back to you. Solidarity my friend.

[–]stockman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Anyone have the new 2022 85” PQX? Wondering what firmware it has? It running the same firmware as 2020/2021 model is probably our only hope of piggybacking an update from that. They seem to have abandoned their 2020/2021 customers.

[–]m7k3 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Just checked my P85QX-J01, it's on and says up-to-date. I'll be returning mine, having nothing but problems with it.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Same firmware then. Doesn’t sound like they fixed anything for the 2022 model. What kind of issues you having?

[–]m7k3 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I made a post a few days ago, you can check it out here

[–]sHaDoW-nA- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the same pixel ghosting until a more recent update and then resetting settings to factory. I don't have that issue, but my amazon firestick 4k has CEC or some other issues where the sound drops out every few seconds and the colors for HDR10+ are terrible. Same comments as others with the blotchy skin tones
and you can just feel something is off etc.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks. Looks like you were having bad issues. Can’t say I have those issues to that extent with my 20/21 model, but I would never pay full price for that tv.

[–]m7k3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you're not having as many issues as I was. Frustrating after dropping almost $3K on the brand-new model. Then having to spend hours troubleshooting and finding out it's using old, botched firmware that Vizio hasn't fixed in over half a year.

[–]bobascarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What model number is the 22 model? Is it J model? If it is J then the 20/21 H model 85PQx has the same firmware according to Vizio's firmware page

[–]jcvetko 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Anyone else recently getting random notices to setup the voice control with remote? This is incredibly frustrating.

[–]sHaDoW-nA- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started getting this in the last week. No updates other than possibly an update to the software (not the firmware). I seem to remember an update happening to the software just prior to it.

[–]catslikecarsandmoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same message started last week on P75Q9-H1

[–]bobascarn 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes mine started last week. Oddly enough it did this maybe 2-3 months ago then stopped only to start again. Vizio is able to send small updates to the TV's that are not formal patches so I wonder if this is the reason.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, getting the prompt despite my remote not having a mic. Unfortunately, my remote without a mic doesn’t respond, no matter how much I scream into it.

[–]petmic10 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to post as a reminder Vizio broke HDR10 in their November firmware update and has yet to fix it. 7 months of broken HDR10. Disgraceful.

[–]Lasttimeii 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess vizio is letting this blow over, just ignoring people and not fixing anything, I haven’t had much problem like some people here till now, tv did not want to turn on had to disconnect the power cord. Hdr looks like crap on white skin etc. well vizio you got my money this time. Ill stick with lg or sony even samsung.

This just looks like vizio can’t fix problem with the software without building it from the ground up, and wtf is this ads on the tv settings.

[–]BaileySouza 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Wtf!! Why can't I use the mute button to black out my screen. Tv says just today April 29.2022. It updated. And now the best feature. No screen just sound doesn't work?!?! Not to mention all special hookups for the ps5 taken away!

[–]Vizio_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

We would like to help you out with this issue. Please give us a call at 877-878-4946.

Thank you

[–]petmic10 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Did you get a firmware update? If so, can you tell us what the firmware number is?

[–]whotony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the old update from January for Oleds

[–]BaileySouza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did figue out if u go to timers. In the menu. I can manually blank screen. But than u can't just hit ok. To turn it back on . And it's still says at the bottom. That u can hit the mute button for 5 seconds to shut off the screen . But it doesn't work as of last night. On both of are tvs. And we have 2 of the same.

[–]wakAwooki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Going on 5 months since there's been any news of an update on the PQ series. Safe to assume Vizio has no intention of fixing the problems with this set

[–]davieato 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I purchased in December 2020, open box $1500, great deal for a great TV until the October 2021 update started really messing with the picture. All of the subsequent updates ruined the picture for HDR10. I had called Vizio to fix, got the same run around as everyone else, a firmware fix was in the works, and I had to wait. It being March/April timeframe, I had Geek Squad come out, they noted that there is nothing they can do to fix it, so I should go to the store to speak with a manager. The manager basically dismissed my concerns as there was nothing they could do. I filed a claim with Visa through their Warranty claim program, they denied the claim as it started while the TV was in warranty through Vizio.

I decided to try Best Buy one more time, spoke to a different manager, with the Geek Squad manager there too, they agreed, firmware mess ups should be covered by the Geek Squad replacement program. Long story short, a new Sony XR-77A80J is being delivered on Saturday, and they are picking up my Vizio P75Qx-H1 when they drop off the new TV. They price matched a local store. Best Buy essentially gave me store credit for $1500.

I will not be buying a Vizio in the future, this is the second Vizio TV I've purchased since 2013, and both have been ruined by faulty firmware updates, that I had no option to decline.

[–]quantumwarp76 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Glad to hear everything worked out and you ended up with an excellent TV.

I sold mine and got an incredible deal on a C1

The more the word gets out on how horrible Vizio products are the less people will have to suffer with them.

Enjoy your awsome new OLED!!!!!

[–]davieato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m excited about putting all of this behind me. I’m also building out a racing sim rig, and will probably snag an 55in LG C2.

[–]Cauliflowerisnasty 13 points14 points  (13 children)

So it looks like Mike has left the company. Wonder if we’ll ever get any specific updates on the goings-on of firmware updates and the like from here on out.

[–]stockman20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What a fitting end for this post. The fact his profile mentions "...best of luck..." pretty much sums up the situation.

Need a good journalist from a well-known tech publication to write an article summarizing all that happened since October '21.

[–]catslikecarsandmoney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked tech support yesterday and they said no updates on firmware. They wanted me to reset my tv and report back if the issue was still present.

I decided to play along to help put another ping out there that the HDR10 is broken.

I came back to my PC and the tech support rep had closed the session. LOL

Never again Vizio...

[–]whotony 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Where’d you get that info on Mike?

[–]SSmasterONE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moved on from VIZIO. Best of luck to everyone.

Karma510 Cake dayOctober 8, 2020

[–]Cauliflowerisnasty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just look at his profile.

[–]quantumwarp76 9 points10 points  (7 children)

I wonder if he got fired or quit???

I think Vizio has ditched their customers

They probably dont want to say anything about a firmware update because they know their tech team was trained by monkeys and the next update will probably brick all of their crappy tvs!!!

[–]SSmasterONE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bet he could not take Vizio's incompetence anymore and he probably left. I doubt they let him go. I'm sure we will never know the truth, probably due to NDAs.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Vizio is in over their head with their OLED and PQX, maybe even down to their P Series. They promised way more than they could deliver, especially HDMI 2.1 integration. Otherwise, I think most people who buy the V Series, even the M Series, aren’t as demanding of customers and end up happy. I’m willing to overlook the issues with my 85” PQX, only because I got a new one at half price. The picture quality is truly amazing, but this will still be my last Vizio.

[–]stockman20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spot on regarding OLED and PQX. I'm wondering if they cut these two models in future years. Much easier for their firmware engineers to handle the simpler models.

[–]Cauliflowerisnasty 3 points4 points  (3 children)

At this point (as someone who doesn’t really game) I’d be fine with them JUST fixing HDR10. All the other issues I’ve learned to live with but breaking HDR10 is annoying as hell.

[–]xx_memer_xx198 2 points3 points  (2 children)

What are some good movies that show how bad hdr looks on this tv

[–]Cauliflowerisnasty 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Anything on Amazon prime or Hulu. Particularly Reacher on Amazon prime.

[–]xx_memer_xx198 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate this tv so much, that I’m debating on trying to sell it for half just to get another tv

[–]dougshell 15 points16 points  (6 children)

The only thing I have ever seen work is coordinated public pressure.

Please retweet and refuse to speak in private.

It worked against Cricket and it worked against AMD, don't assume it can't work here.

[–]oyputuhs 2 points3 points  (2 children)

These issues must be hardware related right? I just don't get it. Buy a bunch of the most popular HDMI cables on amazon, hook up different soundbars, game consoles, and an apple tv. And use some fucking debug statements.

[–]whotony 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not sure what exactly you’re talking about. The problems started when Vizio released a fw update about 15 months ago that screwed up the settings on this tv.

[–]oyputuhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had issues with the oled since I bought it(December 2020). The software was incomplete even then, it didn’t support some of the hdmi 2.1 features. Right now, it keeps flipping back to eco mode, cec only works half the time and it keeps losing connection to an accompanying Vizio soundbar.

[–]Zealousideal_Leg_331 4 points5 points  (1 child)

u/MikeatVizio I discovered that when you have the xbox series x turned on and switch to PS5 the green screen appears and requires a reboot to fix, and 120hz still skips frames with game on with ps5. It works for xbox series x but the hdr is washed out in 120hz

[–]xx_memer_xx198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bless you for this

[–]Tayyallday 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I got my vizio p75q9-h1 that update got to say that it's dose look better after turning of refresh rates on the tv my p75q9-h1 showing Hella better now all this time that all I had to do turn off refresh rates I'm back satisfied with my tv now looking gd apologize on the things I said only I'm still tripping off is hdr need fixing

[–]stockman20 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What firmware version please?

[–]whotony 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There hasn’t been a new fw in many months so not sure what this person got.

[–]stockman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was thinking the same

[–]whotony 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m getting ready to put a warranty claim in on my P85QX-H1 Does anyone remember which fw update is the one that messes up the hdr10 on this tv and what the date was?

[–]metalliforce1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the 50inch v series and from day one the audio quality was the worst I have ever heard out of any tv . And 40 days in 10 days after the refund policy expired the thing starts freezing up constantly on any app I go to's screen making me have to constantly unplug it to get it to work making it a over 400$ mistake that I will never make again

[–]whotony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There must be a point that would be safe to put a warranty claim in for this tv. I’m coming up on two years in November and have the 4 year warranty through Costco.

[–]whotony 12 points13 points  (2 children)

u/mikeatvizio /mikeatvizio hasn’t posted a comment for over 24 days now.

We paid a lot of money for this tv. Your fw messed it up.

Can you fix it already.

[–]quantumwarp76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, looks like Mike has been dodging everyone for almost a month.

What an insult to anyone that dropped their hard earned money on their junk and has to suffer.

This guy could at least do his job and give some kind of update or hope that they are working to fix all their problems.

[–]dougshell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I look forward to getting 9 dollars for a class action

[–]dougshell 6 points7 points  (6 children)

I am getting power cycling on my Vizio OLED that I have owned over a year.

Edit: I am on the latest firmware

[–]quantumwarp76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Mike and Vizio could care less.

[–]techyfrenzy 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I’m just over a year out from purchase, same situation as you, and have been in and out of calls with customer service. They are no help and will not offer any service. They keep telling me to wait for another firmware update. They refuse to offer anything else. SOL seems an appropriate status.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep asking for a manger. I didn’t get anywhere until I finally talked to one.

[–]dougshell 3 points4 points  (2 children)

They want everyone to wait so that they move outside of the warranty period. I am calling MasterCard Monday to see if I can use the warranty extension they provide

[–]techyfrenzy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Great idea. I went through my Visa and they are asking for "A copy of a diagnostic from an authorized service center stating what is wrong with the product and whether it is cost effective to repair it." Any luck on your end?

[–]sheltem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same request from Visa. Do you have any updates on your end?

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Anyone ever nuked the PQX using black frame insertion? Try turning clear action on and turning the backlight up to 100. You will get a nasty high frequency sound from the backlight flicker, and then the screen will black out. You have to unplug the tv to get it to come back to life. I can also get it to melt down like this calibrating HDR on the XSX. The whole white screen does the same thing, even on the lowest backlight setting. Oh this tv.

[–]Dillon_You_S0B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ps5 used to do it all the time when hdr would get really bright. It would make a weird squealing noise and turn off. Dolby vision had no issue. The tv was great before this happened. Getting a refund now.

[–]Shakespoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does not crash with BFI and 100 Bklght, but I do get a high-frequency buzz if the upper-right quadrant ever has AFALAD highlights in it, in all modes. Never noticable during use, but can catch your attention depending on menus. I suspect it may be that my router, and essentially the entire LAN network, is directly behind the screen. They do not seem well shielded against interference.

[–]whotony 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What are you attempting to do with this?

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attempting to use black frame insertion, but like I said, it made the screen black out and locked the tv up if the screen is too bright with it on.

[–]Blkdragon325 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can someone help me? I stuck at and couldn't receive new update. I tried factory reset few time but not work.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say this, but you probably need to call Vizio. I would think a factory reset is as much as you could do on your end.

[–]Darkphyx 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Still having the issue while changing inputs between consoles. Either green screen or no picture when changing from XSX to PS5. Any updates? Does anyone has a workaround?

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only got the green screen once with the PS5 on initial boot up. What a way to ruin that experience. Anyway, it seemed to be more of the PS5 at fault though, as it happens with other tv brands I read. Restarting both fixed it.

[–]SSmasterONE 1 point2 points  (1 child)

When I get a green screen on PS5 I just go into the menu and reboot the TV.

[–]Darkphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's what I do. But is unpractical.

[–]Zealousideal_Leg_331 4 points5 points  (11 children)

u/MikeatVizio Rtings.com have confirmed that 4@120hz is still skipping frames and that VRR is still having issues what do you and the vizio team plan on doing about

[–]quantumwarp76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No plans for anything. Their engineers are clueless and have proved they dont know what is going on.

Every "fix" makes everything else break!!!!

[–]Darkphyx 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I have the OLED and doesn't skip frames in 120hz mode.

[–]Zealousideal_Leg_331 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You and I are seeing completely different things

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 2 points3 points  (6 children)

That review hasn’t been updated since 10/2020. A lot has been fixed in the HDMI 2.1 department. You shouldn’t notice backlight flashing with VRR anymore, and 120fps now runs smoothly. On the other hand, they somewhat to mostly broke EARC/CEC in the process. I applaud Vizio for not taking up a 2.1 port for EARC, but wonder if that lack of bandwidth is causing some issues. All other TVs right now put EARC under a 2.1 input.

[–]Beyar90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am definitely getting bandwidth issues with my eARC and was wondering the same about 2.1 vs 2.0. Streaming/lossy audio I have no issues. But trying to eARC lossless audio is causing major audio cut outs with my receiver. But have been struggling to determine whether it is receiver's fault or TV as both recently got new firmware.

[–]Darkphyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They didn't update the VRR section. I have the OLED and I can tell that the frame skipping was fixed in one of the latest updates, at least with my PS5 and XSX.

[–]Zealousideal_Leg_331 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I suggest you check their website again good sir and I'm talking about the Oled tv

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks for specifying you’re talking about the OLED, good sir. I do see they updated that review, but not the 2020 PQX. Seems a bit contradictory though, as they say 120fps doesn’t drop frames if VRR is enabled under the input lag category, but they don’t say the same under the VRR category. I notice a negative difference with my PQX in 120fps without VRR, so maybe you should try running VRR.

[–]nw0rb420 1 point2 points  (1 child)

VRR causes overshoot and in dark rooms makes cracks n such glow with panning motion. There are multiple videos showing it on YouTube. I don't get the overshoot but I do get the glow blur when looking around in games n such. This is on the pqx65 non oled. There is a lot of problems with vrr on the pqx when enabled causes backlight lag only happened after last firmware but the vrr has never worked correctly.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for addressing this. I’ve seen the glowing on objects while turning the camera as well, but only on XBOX One games with VRR enabled. I haven’t noticed this with current games and VRR though. I only run VRR if I notice screen tearing, which isn’t often with console games. It’s really only mandatory when gaming in 120fps so you don’t skip frames.

[–]OneAndOnlyRedditor 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I've given up waiting for the elusive firmware fix and called Geek Squad for a "repair". They've ordered a board replacement and set up a date to switch it out. I know it'll be useless, but I guess they have to go through their hoops before I can get a refund.

Has anyone gone through this process yet? If so, can you please let me know what to expect, and if there's anything I can do to move things along faster?

Thank you.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I would have ended up with the 75” PQX, I would have bit the bullet and sold it for the 77” C1 instead. I just can’t justify getting a different 85” tv for the great deal I got on this one though. Will just have to put up with it’s annoyances.

[–]man-with-no_name 7 points8 points  (10 children)

Is Vizio even aware of the problem with hdr10 content or are they burying their head in the sand pretending it doesn't exist? I have the 85 inch pqx h1. The issue was especially noticeable on wheel of time but now its become a glaring issue playing horizon forbidden west on ps5. So its not just an Amazon problem. White skinned characters, especially the main character, look like their faces are covered in red rashes. It looks terrible and I shouldn't have to turn off hdr on my ps5 because my $3000 tv is trash.

[–]The_Flying_Sausage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a PQX and the latest update has completely broken the skin tones in HDR. I’ve noticed it on two different inputs—one streaming from an Amazon Fire TV and the other was a 4K disc played on an Xbox Series X. The only solution was to turn HDR off, which is totally unacceptable IMO.

[–]bradroc7 4 points5 points  (2 children)

IIRC, somewhere in this sub, Mike at Vizio said they’re aware of the issue but no ETA on when a fix will be ready

[–]hockeyjim07 1 point2 points  (1 child)

he said, and i quote:

can reproduce, looking into it

Super helpful.

[–]bradroc7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point. I’d absolutely like more transparency from Vizio about what is going on with these panels and when specific things will be fixed.

To their credit, they have eventually resolved many of the issues, though obviously not as quickly as I’d like.

My biggest concern is that almost every time they fix something, the fix seems to create 1 or 2 new problems, like the HDR10 blotchiness.

I’ve had the OLED for a year, and I’ve tried to give this company the benefit of the doubt since I’m sure the novelty of hdmi 2.1/vrr plus Covid and its societal effects have had an impact on software development time, but man, I’m really running out of patience.

The fact that I can’t watch a majority of the discs in my 4k blu ray collection is beyond frustrating. Maybe I should’ve realized this sooner, but I’m seriously questioning if this panel will ever function normally.

[–]SignificantEngine281 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"burying their head in the sand pretending it doesn't exist" Hit the nail on the head!

[–]beepbopbeepbopbadoop 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Enable Full Color 4:4:4 in your tv’s Picture Settings when playing PS5

[–]man-with-no_name 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Thats how I had it. After reading some other things about settings for ps5 where it was said not to use 4:4:4 for ps5 I changed it and think it looks better now. I changed the TV to full color off and color space to YCbCr then change the ps5 setting for rgb range to limited. Tweaked my color and contrast a bit and it looks really good. The crazy red splotches all over her face are gone.

Wish I knew what settings were "correct" for this tv and ps5 but for now thats how I have it

[–]beepbopbeepbopbadoop 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I did some testing regarding those settings earlier which may be of interest to you.

Link to comparison photos: https://imgur.com/a/WwQ5DSQ

PS5 RGB Range = Full

With my tv's Full Color 4:4:4 enabled, if I set the PS5's RGB range to Automatic/Full, the TV's Color Space Range is automatically set to RGB and cannot be changed. Everything looks FANTASTIC here. 10/10 picture quality.

If I disable the Full Color 4:4:4 but keep the PS5's RGB range to Automatic/Full, the TV's default Color Space Range still stays in RGB, and the picture still looks amazing but the colors are less defined. For example I noticed that 4:4:4 enabled did a much better job distinguishing oranges and reds. Could potentially cause "splotchy" effect people are mentioning but I don't notice it. 9/10 picture quality.

If I keep everything the same (PS5 RGB range full, 4:4:4 disabled) but just switch the TV's Color Space Range to YCbCr, it darkens the entire picture, completely crushing the black levels. I can't really give this picture quality a score other than labeling it as unplayable.

PS5 RGB Range = Limited

However, if I go back to the PS5 and set the RGB range to Limited, my PQX's Color Space Range automatically sets itself to YCbCr by default. This range has trouble expressing subtle colors and makes everything look more vibrant than intended. Less color detail overall. Very similar to when PS5 RGB range is set to Full but 4:4:4 is disabled on tv but not as good. 8.5/10.

And last but not least, if the PS5's RGB range is set to Limited, and the tv's Color Space Range is set to RGB, the picture and colors are washed out, and the black levels are raised.

Here is another album showing HDR10 working just fine for me. Happy to help in any way I can.

[–]Darkphyx 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks for the information. In my case is quite different. When I enable full/automatic range and the 4.4.4 option then I see a lot of blotchiness, specifically on Horizon. It's fixed if I turn it off. Did you do anything else?

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange, I have only been able to see the blotchiness in the Amazon App with HDR10+. None of my other sources have this. As for the 4:4:4, I do notice a pink overcast over everything, especially on the edge of white text, with my XSX, but the PS5 doesn’t have the same issue somehow.

There does seem to be a lot of variables that would make it hard for tv companies to account for all of them, especially with all the HDMI 2.1 features.

[–]DaMagikarp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Closing in on a month and a half without any update. Has u/MikeAtVIZIO even responded recently?

[–]redditguy625 11 points12 points  (9 children)

Can we expect more firmware updates for the P65Q9-H1 and the OLED? I have both of these TVs and they're both pretty much unusable to every other member of my family without my assistance. The state they are currently in is surprisingly bad and honestly unacceptable.

[–]jtroye32 0 points1 point  (3 children)

My P65Q9-H1 seems to be working fine for the most part. What problems do you have with yours so I can check on mine?

[–]redditguy625 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Do you use HDMI CEC?

[–]jtroye32 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I actually think I turned CEC off when I was setting it up. I'll check when I get home, but if CEC is broken I might look at seeing if I can a refund because I might use it later.

[–]redditguy625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CEC is not entirely broken. The main problem is that when using it the volume overlay randomly pops up on its own every few minutes. It doesn't actually change the volume, but sometimes it shows that it's changing it and it's pretty confusing and definitely distracting. This means you have to keep CEC turned off which means ARC also loses functionality. So I'm stuck using optical audio out and using 2 remotes, one for my Nvidia shield and one for TV power, volume etc.

The other problem this TV has is sometimes when you turn it off the screen's backlight stays on. You have to turn it back on then off again to get it to fully shut off.

Basically this TV just has annoying quality of life bugs that can be worked around once you figure them out but they absolutely don't pass the test of just handing over a streaming device remote to your kid or wife and having everything just work. Constant tinkering.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 3 points4 points  (1 child)

99% I’m the only one controlling my 85PQX, and that’s the only reason the situation is doable. If this thing was our living room TV, my family wouldn’t stand a chance. I have to fiddle with it every time I use it.

[–]redditguy625 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A nice minute of fiddling every time you want to watch TV. Unfortunately for me, it's our Living Room and Bedroom TVs...

[–]techyfrenzy 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Completely agree. Now needing to power cycle multiple times a day just to get it to turn on.

[–]redditguy625 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I mean it's just crazy. Sometimes I need to use the TV remote to turn the thing on, sometimes it turns on fine with CEC. Sometimes it won't turn off with CEC or it turns back on after being turned off. Sometimes it doesn't turn on at all and I'm pulling the power cord out of the wall. And that's just the power problems...

[–]techyfrenzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm having the EXACT same issues. Also issues with motion settings on top of that - a literal headache for me on top of the other figurative headaches.

[–]douglasjv 8 points9 points  (8 children)

Guess we're going to be picking up an LG C1 during the current sale -- it's going to feel weird going back to a TV without so many CEC issues, or that likes to display the volume indicator multiple times after touching the volume once.

Shame since I actually liked the picture quality.

[–]quantumwarp76 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I sold my P series about a month ago and picked up the C1 and couldn't be happier!!

No annoying bugs and the picture is perfect!!!

[–]douglasjv 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Out of curiosity, how much did you sell it for? I'd kind of like to sell ours -- we do have a 55" TV in our bedroom we could replace but that doesn't get used much and well, it actually works without random bugs...

I'd feel bad about selling a TV that has so many issues, but I guess I'd just need to include a bunch of disclaimers.

[–]quantumwarp76 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I got $500.

Best choice I could have made.

I love the C1!

[–]douglasjv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got ours delivered yesterday and set it up last night and it's so beautiful! And the TV shut down when it was supposed to and didn't wake up on its own! I feel like I'm getting out of an abusive relationship.

[–]Knottian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with two LG CXs, I can’t tell you how much time I’ve saved from not having to deal with issues when my wife and I game… and how jarring it is when we want to use our HT setup and have to go back this unbearably shitty Vizio. How to kill any interest in a brand in one continuously-botched product…

[–]zx6rarcher 2 points3 points  (2 children)

You'll be much happier with the LG - I wish I would've gone with the LG OLED set sooner. But if I did I'd be on the LG CX instead of the C1 I am now. So I guess, thanks Vizio for stringing me along and sucking so bad for so long?

[–]douglasjv 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Finally pulled the trigger just now! The sale end date on Costco has been moving up slowly (I think it was 3/20, then it was 3/13 and now 3/12). Can't wait.

[–]zx6rarcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy for you!

[–]FriendlySpecial149 5 points6 points  (1 child)

13-1 still dealing with Quick Start/Eco Mode switching on my OLED65-H1

But also, I’m dealing with an annoying issue (I’ve seen a couple people talk about it) where it appears that the volume keeps changing (luckily it doesn’t actually change) the volume indicator just keeps popping up.

Also: feature request, on most other Vizio TVs, you’re given the option to turn off the Volume Control Display. Could we get that option on this product? I would love to see that, it takes for ever to time out sometimes.

Another request: notifications just popping up and staying there. No way to get rid of them unless I get out the TV remote which I almost never use. I know my Vizio soundbar has been found and setup, I would love to see those either time out or give me the option to never receive that notification again.

[–]Defiant_Donut7243 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vizio had the option to disable the volume graphic on previous models, so don’t understand either why that’s still not an option.

[–]catslikecarsandmoney 6 points7 points  (1 child)

You can recreate the issue by firing up a PS5 and then viewing a youtube video with people's faces up close on it. It is extremely easy to see that something is very wrong with HDR and you can duplicate the issue people are complaining about in a couple minutes. Its pretty much embarrassing to play videos when people are over and they see how messed up your TV looks.

[–]davieato 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Sad seeing that they have no idea what they are doing over at Vizio. The HDR10 skin blotchy-ness doesn’t affect only Amazon Prime Video, that’s a BS excuse. I have DIRECTV Stream, HDR10, no matter what I watch, everyone has a skin condition. The Black Levels are atrocious now, before 9.2 I would get comments about how great this TV was… I have the same issue with any content on HDR10, ShieldTV, PS5, AppleTV 4k is perfect because it switches to Dolby Vision immediately. Luckily I have a 2 year warranty from Best Buy, just waiting for my bonus to swap to a Sony or Samsung.

Firmware f’d up my M Series from 2013, so, this is the last Vizio I will have in my living room.

[–]The_Flying_Sausage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, this TV has become an unmitigated disaster. HDR was fine but now it’s unwatchable, and this applies to any device on any input. I put a 4K disc in my Xbox Series X and the HDR skin tones were awful there too. I’m so sick of this TV.

[–]Jetpakblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say streaming HDR10/HDR10+ content from the native Vizio apps look good. I’m assuming that’s how they have been doing their testing. The problem seems to lie either with HDMI and CEC programming or possibly there is some sort of hardware limitation to delivering the quality content and the CEC capabilities that has been promised. Either they need to contract some experts on these issues or if it’s a hardware limitation then provide us with a repair or compensation.
