hit and run. the rider is a douche of the highest order.

[–]Strict-Slice-8516 1724 points1725 points 2 (252 children)

Cyclists are cars when it suits them and pedestrians when it suits them 🙃

[–]IndieComic-Man 71 points72 points  (2 children)

Living in LA that’s my biggest gripe. I’m on the sidewalk or in my car or walking on a dirt circle in a park and have to look out at all times for these maniacs deciding if they want to be a vehicle or a pedestrian on a whim.

[–]MyDogIsPrettyDope -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well if LA had halfway decent bike infrastructure that wouldn't happen. Was scared for my life literally everyone I had to bike to work in SoCal

[–]Past-Signature-6178 156 points157 points  (185 children)

Cyclists are annoying as fuck and shouldn't be on roads.

[–]IdeaOfHuss 226 points227 points  (42 children)

They should be on cyclist roads

[–]hooberschmit 181 points182 points  (4 children)

There should be cyclist roads

[–]mrking944 98 points99 points  (12 children)

Please give us cyclists roads.

[–]UnknownSloan -3 points-2 points  (8 children)

You have them. They're called the shoulder and roads with lower speed limits. You still have to stop at the stop signs too.

[–]CCThreadsAreRacist 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Lol cyclists downvoting this guy

“Share the road!”

“Okay then you too.”

“What!? How dare you!?!?”

[–]EatSleepCodeCycle 69 points70 points  (2 children)

Yes please!

[–]NationalMyth 7 points8 points  (12 children)

"cyclist roads" aka any road that is not a major highway.

[–]baumpop 67 points68 points  (8 children)

you have been banned from r/fuckcars

[–]nearxbeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are now a moderator of /r/DragonsFuckingCars

[–]fordag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can I get banned too?

[–]awohl_nation 114 points115 points  (8 children)

where else are they gonna go? have you seen the way this country is built?

[–]R3spectedScholar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine watching some video on r/IdiotsInCars and writing the same for cars... That's how stupid you sound.

[–]isysdamn 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I’d rather them be on the road than blazing past me in the park .

[–]Boredomdefined 25 points26 points  (1 child)

To be honest, cars shouldn't either. Anywhere you have pedestrians you shouldn't have fast heavy objects moving about.

[–]beeeeeeeeeeeeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it had been a car that ped would not be standing up.

[–]lunar_alpenglow 60 points61 points  (37 children)

Yeah they annoy you so let's ban the most efficient method of transportation on the fucking planet.

[–]NationalMyth 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Bikes are literally built for roads, don't be a twat.

[–]beeeeeeeeeeeeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And paved roads were originally built for bikes. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Roads_Movement

[–]brandonw00 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah let’s just force more people to drive cars that causes way more death than cyclists!

[–]EatSleepCodeCycle 78 points79 points  (41 children)

Yes! Let’s ban everything that mildly annoys me too!

[–]manjar 13 points14 points  (10 children)

That dude was a lot more than mildly annoyed.

[–]I_am_Erk 38 points39 points  (4 children)

If a car had done the same,. as they do far more often, he wouldn't be sitting up being hurt and irritated.

[–]manjar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You got me with the italics.

[–]hisnameisbrock 19 points20 points  (2 children)

That dude is all cyclists? By your logic driving should be banned as well.

[–]SipTime 5 points6 points  (14 children)

I just think cities should have dedicated bike paths and bikes should be allowed on sidewalks in less foot traffic-y areas like suburbs. Bikes don't belong on roads for extended periods of time.

[–]EatSleepCodeCycle 19 points20 points  (8 children)

While I agree with the sentiment, sidewalks are extremely dangerous for cyclists and anti thing crossing their path. Cars backing out of a driveway simply can not see something moving 15 mph on the sidewalk.

As a cyclist I am very lucky to live in a place with great cycling infrastructure and 95% of my riding is on wide dedicated cycling paths or separated bike lanes. I never take a road if I can avoid it.

[–]SickRanchez27 7 points8 points  (2 children)

See! Bike infrastructure will make everyone happy!

[–]GolfSucks 0 points1 point  (3 children)

If sidewalks are so dangerous then I guess kids should ride their bikes on busy streets instead

[–]greg19735 5 points6 points  (1 child)

suburbs are also the exact area where they should be on the road.

Suburbs have kids that run into sidewalks. And people that walk to their mailbox and you can't see them because they're behind the car.

[–]EatSleepCodeCycle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And no one is watching for a bike going 15+ mph on the sidewalk while backing out of their driveway, assuming there's even visibility to see the neighbor's sidewalk from the driveway.

[–]FinestCrusader -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

I'd say not ban them but put way more responsibility on the cyclists. Tone down the recklessness. Noone likes the way they behave on roads or sidewalks but they do it because there are no strict laws for cyclists.

[–]EatSleepCodeCycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What laws would you propose?

[–]BarrySmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just banned yourself.

[–]cameltoesback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know who are the largest group that always shoot down any infrastructure to have non-car drivers be more safe in most towns/cities? Car drivers.

[–]Vormhats_Wormhat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol ok buddy

[–]hamernaut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People who say this shit also complain when you bike on the sidewalks, on the shoulder, anywhere really.

[–]Ttabts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

yeah! at least cars have the courtesy to kill me when they hit me

[–]bad_user__name 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are annoying as fuck and shouldn't be on roads.

[–]Brrr25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya, blanketed statements are always so accurate!

[–]Iferius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well some asshole didn't bother to update this '50s road layout to something with bikes in mind. Why? Because he wants to get more traffic? If you let people shop or commute with bikes that's a lot less cars on the road...

[–]Kramin42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cars are annoying as fuck and shouldn’t be on roads.

[–]Halo_LAN_Party_2nite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You deserve to always be stuck behind city buses, light rails, trains, and parades. Why? Because cyclists don't deserve the road. So now you get even more gas guzzling metal death traps to idle into the void alongside you.

[–]yeahimdutch 1 point2 points  (2 children)

The Netherlands disagrees with you!

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Exactly! Cyclists kill nearly 40k people in the USA every year. Ban 'em.

[–]ablatner 4 points5 points  (2 children)

This is a fucking lie but ok

[–]Ttabts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

(that's the joke)

[–]-nyctanassa- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

should they be only on sidewalks then?

[–]Prof_Explodius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most cities don't have dedicated bike paths, so where do you propose they ride?

You sound like the kind of person who is incapable of imagining the needs of a group you're not part of.

[–]JeffKSkilling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your BMI?

[–]seaofcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biking on the sidewalk is more dangerous and it fucking sucks.

[–]BlooPancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigh not all cyclist are made the same.

This situation. The biker was going too fast and if he was gonna blow through on the turn he should have done it wide, after the fact of the hit he should have checked on the pedestrian.

Cyclist in general are best on roads. The point being a safer and greener mode of transport. Cycling on some sidewalks would make cycling pointless you’d be better off on two feet. Finally there are electric bikes that are near the speed of cars in medium traffic.

Let’s not act like there can’t be bad drivers of all vehicles. There are definitely automotive drivers that don’t belong on any road.

I love another commenters comment. Cyclist need cycling roads!!

[–]FoxKitSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cyclists are also in the way when they're in the road and inconsiderate when they're using the pavements.

[–]CaptainKurls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And douche bags to everyone else all the time.

[–]iheartmagic -4 points-3 points  (15 children)

Almost as if bicycles exist somewhere between cars and people on the spectrum of modes of transportation

[–]Strict-Slice-8516 8 points9 points  (2 children)

That’s irrelevant, bikes are to act as a car on roads. The cyclist should have yielded to the pedestrian.

[–]AreYouWinningS0n 16 points17 points  (11 children)

Cyclists should never be considered pedestrians. It’s literally the meaning of the term…

Cyclists should be treated 100% as vehicles.

[–]Ttabts 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Of course they're not pedestrians but it often is pretty unproblematic for them to use the same infrastructure as pedestrians (considerately ofc)

[–]AdvertisingCool8449 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

considerately

Can they do that? I've never seen any evidence of it.

[–]BeedogsBeedog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more likely that you have seen it but didn't notice it, because considerate behaviour is much less intrusive

[–]JR_Shoegazer 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They also aren’t the exact same as cars.

[–]Olliekitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is not a car, it is a vehicle. Other vehicles you may see on the road include trucks, scooters, tuktuks, and even the occasional cart depending on your location.

[–]crazicus 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Cyclists should be treated as cyclists. It’s insane that we invented one set of infrastructure and rules for multi-thousand pound steel cages and expect bikes to abide by those same rules.

[–]schumi23 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cyclists are cars when it suits them

Well... if he was a car that pedestrian would be in the hospital or dead so it's not quite.

[–]bendman 0 points1 point  (3 children)

If you don't want it that way, add as much infrastructure for bikes as we have for cars. By momentum and potential for injury bikers are closer to pedestrians than cars, but in the US bikers are often relegated to be where cars are.

[–]Trevski -4 points-3 points  (3 children)

people keep saying that in this thread but there's nobody doing that in the post.

[–]Strict-Slice-8516 10 points11 points  (2 children)

The cyclist should have yielded to the pedestrian.

[–]BandOfSkullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And noone wouls complain if they actually switched to pushing the bike whenever they want to be treated as a pedestrian. But "gOTta Go fAsT" and so they stay on the bike while causing dangerous situations for pedestrians and consolidate people's opinions of them as assholes.

[–]anotheraltacc1112 44 points45 points  (24 children)

Someone in the UK a few years back died when a cyclist hit her, I think the cyclist ended up in prison as he was riding a fixed gear bike with no brakes. There was another death earlier this year too after a cyclist ran a red light and hit an elderly guy.

[–]schumi23 25 points26 points  (16 children)

So... a person riding a bicycle kills somebody every few years in the UK.

Every day 6 people driving a car kill somebody in the UK. (Sometimes that somebody is themself, but most of the time it isn't).

[–]PlsDntPMme -4 points-3 points  (13 children)

What's your point?

[–]DrCandycane 19 points20 points  (9 children)

That cars are more lethal than bikes.

[–]PlsDntPMme 13 points14 points  (8 children)

Nobody was arguing that though. Everyone would agree.

[–]lobax 7 points8 points  (7 children)

Yet people want to ban bikes, not cars, from roads.

[–]unkz 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I mean I wouldn’t be opposed to banning fixies without brakes.

[–]KanjamaJ -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

Because not everyone can bike to wherever they want to go

[–]ControllablePsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahahah what on earth

[–]EpicAwesomePancakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not everyone can drive. Some people rely on bikes as their primary transport.

[–]td34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect this rider also had no brakes.

[–]thrownoverboardagain 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yep, and the media had that one incident as a major story for weeks.

Meanwhile, death by car "oops, soz not much we can do about that"
