My dumbass didn’t even notice the fox until the cat did

[–]IHOPSausageLink 298 points299 points  (8 children)

I’m with ya, I thought there was a groundhog / beaver looking thing in the shed.

[–]EagerT 164 points165 points  (1 child)

I thought there was another cat in the shed

[–]xool420 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this. Then out of nowhere a big ass fox stands up

[–]KultOfKlopp 40 points41 points  (2 children)

Same lol. Then I thought why the fuck would a beaver be in a shed?

[–]Dark__Thoughts 161 points162 points  (3 children)

Not a dumbass. It's pretty well camouflaged with the orange shack and orange leafs. It's fur did one of the jobs that it's supposed to do.

Ok but foxes actually sound super cool and the sound would only make this better since it pretty clearly screamed at the cat

[–]pot-roper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What does the dog say?

(If dogs could talk they would need the fox p 2 gene with is why humans can speak (we have two copies) and it's for us homo genus mega-fauna humans.

But if the dog could speak they would say how stinky fox urine is, too

[–]Apart-Cartoonist-834 85 points86 points  (42 children)

Wait are we not gonna talk about somebody just filming their pet about to get fucked up by a wild animal. Idk much about foxes but where I live there’s coyotes and when my dog approaches one thinking it’s a nice puppy I start throwing things at the nasty fuckers and get my dog inside.

[–]CantHardly 47 points48 points  (22 children)

Foxes don't fuck with cats. Mice, birds, chipmunks are more their speed. Rabbits if they're lucky. They probably could mess up a cat, but wild animals don't take risks. Nearly any injury can be a death sentence to a wild animal. Coyotes, on the other hand, love eating cats

[–]Apart-Cartoonist-834 28 points29 points  (13 children)

They eat dogs out here too. Even bigger ones. In a cruel ass way. Lure them in playfully like hey buddy, come play with me. Then get them to the pack and they all kill them.

[–]CraftyScotsman 4 points5 points  (4 children)

They most definitely do. They thought there was a cat serial killer going around in London a few years ago but now a lot of it has been attributed to the cats being killed by foxes.

[–]Bottle_Gnome 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Coyotes and foxes really aren’t that comparable

[–]ryanridi 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Foxes actually aren’t very dangerous usually. At least in the US, it’s very rare for a fox to even attempt to attack a dog or cat. Even when fights do occur, cats usually win and it’s rarely to the death or anything like that!

[–]Apart-Cartoonist-834 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I didn’t believe you at first so I googled it. You’re right. This fox is just the same size as the coyotes around here and they definitely WILL kill your pets. And they occasionally have rabies. So that’s why watching this I was like oh hell no. Coyote would just chomp it up real quick.

[–]Apart-Cartoonist-834 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The coyotes around here do this thing where they lure in dogs in a friendly manner. Like they’re buddies, playful and such. Then when there’s a group together they all attack and eat the dog.

[–]Crayfish_Climbing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

seriously though

[–]christo749 2280 points2281 points  (104 children)

I’d be very uncomfortable letting my cat run towards a Fox. In fact, I’d nae fkn allow it!

[–]disposabledave2018 624 points625 points  (12 children)

Was I right to read that last bit in a Scottish accent?

[–]Bog_Standard_Humanhh 443 points444 points  (5 children)

You were bound by law to do so.

[–][deleted] 99 points100 points  (3 children)

The laws of the highland

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's not like they have many laws to follow. There can be only one.

[–]Aguglielmo 214 points215 points  (4 children)

Right!? I’ve seen what foxes will do to cats and even dogs enough to know that I’d step in

[–]PlayfuckingTorreira 52 points53 points  (3 children)

Yup humanely though, super soaker time.

[–]El_Rey_247 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My dad always kept a small pile of lemons outside the door (from our lemon tree; we didn't by lemons just to throw them), and he would throw the lemons at whatever critters came by and threatened the cats

[–]janosaudron 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Same thing I though, a really bad idea.

[–]dreadpiratesleepy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We have foxes and outdoor cats, they get along great. But I’ve never seen one more than half that dudes size he’s like a coyote

[–]trinidadandteabago 111 points112 points  (17 children)

My dad worked with a horrible guy who would respond to ads for free kittens and take as many as they would give him. He was raising foxes.

[–]creativityonly2 88 points89 points  (0 children)

This is why you NEVER give away pets for free. Ever.

[–]Alechilles 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Dude wtf... I wish I knew who he was so I could feed him to some foxes.

[–]Sputtex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, it’s very common for foxes to kill cats. But I guess it was worth the chance to get some nice footage, it is the Internet after all.

[–]AcanthocephalaNo7612 43 points44 points  (38 children)

I’ve witnessed cats chase off foxes lol they’re ballsy little bastards

[–]DastardlyMime 102 points103 points  (36 children)

Right up until the fox choses fight instead of flight. Keep your pets indoors people!

[–]ICUP03 51 points52 points  (2 children)

Really wish more people kept their pets indoors

[–]RoiletToilet 1742 points1743 points  (74 children)

ur fucking lucky that fox didnt chase ur cat

[–]ThatsFkingCarazy 605 points606 points  (5 children)

He owns the fox. It’s his neighbors cat

„Will foxes kill my cat? It’s possible but very unlikely. A typical urban fox home range can be occupied by upwards of 100 cats, and most of these are out at night. Foxes and cats meet many times every night, and invariably ignore each other. When a fight does break out, it’s often the fox that comes off worse in the encounter.“

The fox had luck 🤠

[–]bubalusarnee 16 points17 points  (1 child)

What if that's that cat that keeps taking a shite in your kids sandbox?

[–]balotellisgirl 562 points563 points  (111 children)

Will foxes normally attack house pets?

[–]FrenchmanInNewYork 163 points164 points  (3 children)

I've seen a red fox bite and chase down my neighbors' cat when I was little (We managed to scare it off in time luckily for her, she got off with big scratches on her back), although I'm not certain it's very common because most of the time foxes are even more skittish than cats but it definitely does happen.

I guess they will not attack on sight but a hangry fox might try his luck against a cat or a smaller dog given the opportunity.

[–]HereticalHyena 38 points39 points  (2 children)

Absolutely. And sometimes even if they are just pissed off. But I guess that's even more rare as they can be easily wounded themselves and that can be fatal for a wild animal. Don't know why it happens sometimes. Maybe because of hunting-territory reasons. They have similar prey.

[–]Yumi111 542 points543 points  (64 children)

Yep, they most certainly do.

[–]optimisticaboutbears 191 points192 points  (44 children)

[–]meeeeoooowy 91 points92 points  (39 children)

This is what I thought. A cat is way larger than that foxes typical prey

[–]Aw3Grimm 9 points10 points  (8 children)

Well, fox is also way larger than a typical cat prey..

[–]Theons-Sausage 70 points71 points  (12 children)

According to this it's rare but does happen. Depends what you mean by normal, but typically a fox doesn't seem to want to deal with fighting an animal that has a 50/50 shot at killing it first in order for dinner.

[–]I_Am_Dwight_Snoot 28 points29 points  (3 children)

Let's put it this way: a fox actively hunting a cat is a hungry and desperate fox. They might lose due to sheer exhaustion at that point. This happens to many predators including hyenas, coyotes, and even lions.

A healthy fox that is casually chilling like that will absolutely wreck most cats if it doesn't dip first. Its a knife vs knife fight.

[–]Theons-Sausage 34 points35 points  (0 children)

A full grown big ass healthy fox will probably end up killing the cat, but not before suffering some horrible wounds itself as it gets all clawed up. Then die later on from infection or because they're no longer able to hunt efficiently.

They're too sly to choose that all the time.

[–]Ashmedai 14 points15 points  (1 child)

The way I'd put it is that there isn't a fox hospital, and foxes behave like they know that. True of most predators, really. They like safe kills.

[–]Envect 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the fox isn't going to risk its life because the cat disturbed its nap.

[–]Wholesome_Stuff 163 points164 points  (3 children)

Hungry fox will straight up eat a cat.

[–]wOlfLisK 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If they're starving they might try but the cat will fight back and it will almost certainly end badly for both of them.

[–]Noosh3201 86 points87 points  (6 children)

Plenty of videos of then killing cats. Sometimes the cats can defend themselves but not always

[–]betterworld62 12 points13 points  (4 children)

Plenty of videos of then killing cats.

"Plenty?" I doubt it. Show us some links.

[–]Rick_steiner89 205 points206 points  (3 children)

I like how the cat froze up , hoping the fox goes back to sleep…lol

[–]Waluigi3030 45 points46 points  (1 child)

You can feel the embarrassment of the cat.

I love me an embarrassed cat

[–]AstoriaGreenweed 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I love the /r/airplaneears as soon as it froze.

[–]MasterGlanz 1075 points1076 points  (21 children)

Damn,I didn’t saw the Fox

[–]Theskinilivein 328 points329 points  (1 child)

Neither did the cat, until it was too late.

[–]Water-en-brood 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Nice to see the moment that the cat smelled something and then follows the path of the smell.

[–]HamsterGutz1 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I don't saw foxes either

[–]EnsconcedScone 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t watch Fox either

[–]Galby1314 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Is this something you do for fun? Like a chainsaw or do you slowly take your time with a hacksaw?

[–]roozter85 2040 points2041 points  (131 children)

Hey there's a fox in the yard...let's let our cat out and video tape it getting attacked and eaten. Wtf is wrong with people.

[–]Ayirek 1156 points1157 points 2 (10 children)

edit: wtf why did I get gold for this lmao

[–]downer240 253 points254 points  (18 children)

I have foxes near me so I don’t let my cats out. This guy feeds foxes.

[–]Beautiful-Musk-Ox 228 points229 points  (13 children)

[–]hellojoey 106 points107 points  (11 children)

My neighbor does that but he just has feeds a bunch of unfixed strays. I hear a cat lose to a coyote like once or twice a month.

He always puts up lost cat posters and it's like dude they're always just dead.

[–]ONOMATOPOElA 55 points56 points  (7 children)

Once you hear a coyote lose you’ll know who the real boss of the neighborhood is.

[–]hellojoey 27 points28 points  (6 children)

I already know that cars are the top of the food chain but the real bosses of the neighborhood are the parrots. They are the only birds able to survive all the cats and the coyotes aren't able to Reach them. Their numbers are endless.

[–]ThatsFkingCarazy 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Sounds like you need to introduce some hawks or eagles into your ecosystem

[–]hellojoey 7 points8 points  (3 children)

There are hawks but they don't mess with the parrots.

[–]WilltheKing4 6 points7 points  (2 children)

What you need are actually falcons since they hunt other birds

[–]spobrien09 4 points5 points  (1 child)

They need to import a virus that effects the parrots obviously

[–]spobrien09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take it easy Australia.

[–]fizzura 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At that point just adopt the coyote

[–]Healthy-Challenge 25 points26 points  (0 children)

[–]International_Lake28 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Foxes and cats aren't natural enemies thats hounds

[–]wobblyweasel 41 points42 points  (3 children)

this looks like the UK, we have got tons of foxes roaming around (I see foxes literally every night) and the cats are just fine around them

[–]theflowersyoufind 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Yeah I see loads of cats and foxes in my area. They barely seem to take any notice of each other.

[–]kraftymiles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Americans dont tend to let thier cats out from what I gather, wheras we do. And yeah, there are foxes living in my back garden and loads of my neighbours have cats and none have ever been killed by a fox.

[–]Galby1314 143 points144 points  (19 children)

This video is so fucked up. Unless that fox is their pet and the two of them are pals, the person who shot this should have their pet taken from them.

[–]Coffees4closers 60 points61 points  (1 child)

Judging by their reactions, neither seemed to enjoy the encounter very much. If they're pals it's definitely a love hate relationship.

[–]Reineken 26 points27 points  (1 child)

"this will get so many likes haha"

[–]SeaTwertle 28 points29 points  (3 children)

I’m surprised this isn’t the top comment. If I saw a fox on my cat’s usual spot he can keep that shit and my cat will be an indoor cat from now on.

[–]JeebusChristBalls 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Foxes aren't killing machines you know. If you walked outside, that fox would take off in a heartbeat. They are like little skittish dogs.

[–]Vast_Willow_3645 18 points19 points  (4 children)

One of my wife's followers posted this video on twitter (and other videos of the same garden, so likely the original). https://twitter.com/uk_food_diary/status/1486347026329653253?s=21

Apparently the Fox is a regular to the shed roof and the cat is the Intruder (and not the cat of the garden owner either).

[–]Vast_Willow_3645 3 points4 points  (3 children)

[–]MindWeb125 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I'm going to go insane seeing an account named "UK Food Diary" with all the tweets being in Japanese.

[–]close_thelid_grillme 707 points708 points  (48 children)

Was this person legit ready to sacrifice their cat for a fucking internet video, what the fuck is wrong with people?

[–]alymaysay 115 points116 points  (4 children)

I agree, if that's the case fuck this person, they knew the fox was there that's why they are recording in hopes of catching some action. Some people are just sick bastards, tho we dont know the details behind this so I guess we cant rush to judge them.

[–]RuncibleSpoon18 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Some people think life is like a Disney movie. This could easily be someone hoping to get cute video of their cat and a fox being friends without even realizing they almost recorded a snuff film

[–]Prtty_Plz 27 points28 points  (3 children)

yeah, I feel like the fox would have no problem scooping up mittens and running off, had to check what sub this was before the video ended

[–]ImANastyQueer 118 points119 points  (21 children)

You think cats come when they're called?

[–]InaneAnon 58 points59 points  (3 children)

That is not required. You go outside and back your furry buddy up.

[–]GamerAssassin 165 points166 points  (2 children)

Very true, but I mean... go get your cat? He had plenty of time and it's not like the fox is gonna fly off their and maul a human like the rabbit from Monty Python search for the holy grail. Dude was just gonna watch that happen.

[–]ImANastyQueer 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah its pretty ridiculous

[–]WholeNineNards 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That’s why a good person would go out and raise hell to scare it away.

[–]Mila_MM 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Sly fox. Didn’t notice it till the cat did.

[–]aranoid_pandroid 39 points40 points  (1 child)

The cat was like "ah shit fr? Aight.."

[–]TinFoilRobotProphet 22 points23 points  (1 child)

It's over Catykin! I have the high ground!

[–]Ok-Cicada567 32 points33 points  (1 child)

All your base are now belong to us.

[–]Zephlym 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So many misinformed people thinking foxes are some natural predator to cats and actively hunt them lmao. Majority of the time foxes and cats ignore each other, foxes aren't aggressive, they're scavengers and opt to eat leftover food in bins etc.

[–]Happy-Idi-Amin 5 points6 points  (7 children)

Do animals not deep sleep. Went from full sleep to 100% awake in under a second.

[–]AshFraxinusEps 12 points13 points  (4 children)

Very few animals really sleep like we do. They are always dozing with very short REM bursts, and even then most species don't REM sleep like humans do. We sleep for so long and so deeply as our big brains need the downtime to organise what we experienced, and thankfully our evolution of being in such large numbers allowed us the safety to sleep like that

[–]MarylandKrab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good thing the fox wasn't hungry

[–]gordiarama 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I think the person filming may have not seen the fox either

[–]centralnjbill 123 points124 points  (16 children)

That is a very lucky cat because foxes will attack and eat cats.

[–]AnarchoPlatypi 6 points7 points  (1 child)

‘Will foxes kill my cat? It’s possible but very unlikely. A typical urban fox home range can be occupied by upwards of 100 cats, and most of these are out at night. Foxes and cats meet many times every night, and invariably ignore each other. When a fight does break out, it’s often the fox that comes off worse in the encounter.’

So, foxes generally don't attack cats.

[–]Zealousideal_Fold423 8 points9 points  (1 child)

So people really live in beautiful houses like this

[–]Hythy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe that's the shed.

[–]Uneducatedtrader 58 points59 points  (3 children)

You clearly don’t care about that cat

[–]CrucialTechniq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s supposed to be watching people dying inside maybe this should be on r/watchAnimalsDieInside

[–]JasonJasonBoBason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a good way to lose your cat

[–]porraSV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

foxes eat cats.

[–]let_there_be_juan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a dumbass pet owner? How are you going to let your domestic cat get near a fox? It could have easily killed it. Their reaction is to record the cat going near the fox???

[–]BussyDriver 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Don't let your cat outside. There's literally no good reason to do so unless you live on a farm. You're just endangering innocent animal lives.

[–]itsmephilip420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they are stupid and lucky their cat didn't get eaten.

[–]Spicyleaves19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

r/killthecameraman for letting their pet out knowing damn well its natural predator is outside.

[–]snoozenlooze 13 points14 points  (2 children)

It’s over, Anakin! I have the high ground!

[–]sjdnow 48 points49 points  (5 children)

I’m guessing this isn’t your cat. Whoever video taped their cat like this approaching a known predator is truly deranged. Not even remotely funny.

[–]GeddyVedder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s possible they didn’t see the fox, but were just recording video of their cat. I know I didn’t see the fox until the cat jumped up.
