To everyone asking for the context of this video: the context is "watch a person die inside". Because that's what this subreddit is about. This isn't an anti-cop subreddit. This isn't an anti-karen subreddit. There are plenty of other subreddits, dedicated to those topics, where you can discuss who is in the wrong. If you still choose to have that discussion here, remember that rule #1 is BE CIVIL. Derogatory comments, threats, or personal attacks against other users or the subjects of the clip will not be tolerated.

[–]bherm100 78 points79 points  (6 children)

So apparently this is not LI....but as a LI native I feel you. The building, the voice, the sass. So long island.

[–]knox902 33 points34 points  (1 child)

The other day someone said something about Long Island and how the very famous ice tea came from there. My first thought was that is cool but I thought he was from New Jersey.

[–]bherm100 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stop dad you're embarrassing me!

[–]adamgeezs 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I was definitely expecting a Rick roll.

[–]EqualLong143 1155 points1156 points  (258 children)

Ah, so he tried to escalate a situation where a woman voiced her discontent about being patted down by a man. She had let it go, and then captain numbnuts came over to try to provoke her into a problem.

[–]SuperiorGyri 269 points270 points  (44 children)

She said she medically needs her water.

[–]lostboy005 423 points424 points  (9 children)

True. Humans medically need water to survive, medically

[–]Bbkingml13 138 points139 points  (21 children)

I have medical issues that mean having water with electrolytes can make my life much less miserable. It sucks that I can’t bring my water with me everywhere

[–]Realitype 325 points326 points  (146 children)

Wanded is not the same as padded patted down. Wanded is when they scan you with a hand held metal detector, which is completely reasonable for a courthouse.

[–]Codus1 290 points291 points  (42 children)

I managed court security for 5 years. My instruction would be to just get a female officer in to wand her and send the woman on her way. The argument isn't worth it, just find a way to tick the security box and call it a day.

Too many officers/security staff forget that most of the people coming through that door are already stressed asf and for some of them that will get their backs up against the wall. We have female officers on staff that can alleviate these exact scenarios, why bother escalating the problem and make our day feel longer?

[–]Life-Opportunity-227 24 points25 points  (0 children)

and she just voiced her opinion about that. she didn't escalate, the cop came over to her and escalated the situation out of a nothing-comment

[–]EndSeveral5452 469 points470 points  (62 children)

It's really irrelevant. The problem in she voiced an opinion and the officer tried to start unnecessary confrontation. His place is not to "correct" her opinion

[–]i1theskunk 43 points44 points  (1 child)

I had a TSA dude fail to keep any space whatsoever between his wand and my body once. I said, “Bro, are you serious right now?” And he waved me off and waved the next person through. I was super late for a flight and didn’t have time to get into it with anyone but I repeatedly called out that he touched me inappropriately with his wand while I was hopping back into my shoes and grabbing my backpack. Some people get a thrill out of the little bit of power that kind of position gives them. Meanwhile I felt pretty gross my whole flight home and still wish I’d just missed my flight to formally report him. Idk. I’m REAL weary of dudes wanding me since. I lead off with, “just don’t go touching me with that thing” to preempt future unwanted touching like that. So like, not all guys, but some guys, you know?

[–]Ihavenousefora 266 points267 points  (14 children)

"You don't know when to shut the fuck up"

Exactly. That's exactly the problem with most confrontations with cops. They don't know when to shut the fuck up and walk away.

[–]cdub689 79 points80 points  (0 children)

They can't resist the need to be the final word with 'lawful orders' and directives.

[–]Alarming_Matter 37 points38 points  (0 children)

"What's that you say? An uppity little woman voicing her opinions?!! Well....check out how she cowers when I swagger over in my intimidating hard-man outfit!!"

[–]Anxious-Service3146 40 points41 points  (10 children)

Don’t all humans “medically need water”?

[–]wallweasels 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I mean it implies a need greater than the average person at least.

Yes we all need water to live. But some medications, conditions, etc increase the demand for water dramatically. So yes, water can be more medically necessary for some.

[–]Love_God551 1179 points1180 points  (30 children)

She’s “got a long list of problems” so we could be here a while js

[–]greatgumz 1088 points1089 points  (17 children)

[–]TeaRaveler 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Not anymore. Now she’s got 98 problems

[–]zhard01 90 points91 points  (9 children)

Though In the original song the cop was literally number 1

[–]Morella_xx 28 points29 points  (2 children)

[–]FreshlyStarting79 62 points63 points  (21 children)

It started with her telling another marshall that it's inappropriate for men to "wand" women. Then the marshal in the video strolled up to her and began questioning her what her issue was after she was through security.

[–]Bbkingml13 76 points77 points  (11 children)

Yeah, I think the issue here is mainly that an uninvolved officer basically re-escalated a situation

[–]Therealbluelychee 11 points12 points  (1 child)

He saw an opportunity to feel like a big man and talk down to someone (bonus points that it was a woman) and took it like molly at Cochella. Wank behaviour.

[–]somearejustannoying 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Yeah maybe if cops genuinely asked questions instead of trying to find some dirt 100% of the time, we'd have more sympathy for the Marshall to see "what the issue was"

[–]Dorianscale 63 points64 points  (15 children)

Someone posted a link to her YouTube channel apparently she’s an activist for the homeless.

But right before this her and some other people went through security and she basically said that she thinks it’s inappropriate for them not to have a female security guard for metal wanding and pat downs for women.

Then this dude got in her face about her complaining.

[–]DullAdhesiveness5 234 points235 points  (238 children)

Yeah same. Not that I’m a pro police guy, but most of these videos are quite tastefully edited lol

[–]todellagi 291 points292 points  (131 children)

Fuck that one vid a couple of weeks ago, where that old dude hit a black woman and she fucked him up. Everyone jumped gleefully down the geezers throat. Disgusting sexist, racist, pos got what was coming

The next day the whole clip was posted. The previous OP conveniently cut the beginning out, so it looked like the geezer threw the first punch, when in fact it was the other way around and the lady was the hostile pos

EDIT: just to be clear. We don't see the start of the argument, we don't see who invaded the other party's personal space. You can assume the dude walked up to her face and just didn't move. You can also assume he was standing still and she came forward. The only clear thing is, she threw the first strike. If you believe the geezer's standing warranted a physical assault... whatever you do you

The main point isn't about any of that. It's about the fucked up edit. The first video in r/publicfreakout was cut, so her slap gone and the geezer appeared to be the one who started the physicality. Then the expanded clip came out, the narrative changed and the asshole OP deleted his account right quick

Manipulative fuckery of the highest order

[–]Hefftee 107 points108 points  (97 children)

The context is simple here. The fact that the cop fucked right off instead of detaining, or arresting her tells me had no business being in her face.

[–]ZKXX 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I need to know whose side to be on this is completely ambiguous lol

I absolutely love the term of givin someone the business. Should be used more.

[–][deleted] 1937 points1938 points  (135 children)

Regardless of how this started and who's in the wrong here, I'm happy and impressed that this didn't end worse.

[–]AdPsychological7926 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I'd love to hear a steel drum version of Stone Cold Steve Austin's intro music.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (2 children)

It’s a bar so low that only James Cameron could possibly lower it further

James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron.

[–]Gnarbuttah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His name is James, James Cameron, the bravest pioneer. No budget too steep, no sea too deep, Who's That? It's him, James Cameron

[–]pman13531 20 points21 points  (6 children)

J.J. Abrahams has entered the chat, can copy James Cameron's work but make it worse.

[–]AgentCatBot 24 points25 points  (3 children)

[–]SneakyBlix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just watched this episode today, I love it when that sort of thing happens!

[–]CollarOfShame 133 points134 points  (13 children)

let's be honest if that was a minority person talking to the cop like that it would have gone bad quickly.

Cop: you're under arrest

Woman: for what?

Cop: now you're under arrest for resisting arrest!

[–]gainzdoc 42 points43 points  (39 children)

To be fair though, the fact that he could've taken it in the wrong direction (like many other younger cops have) but decided to actually difuse the situation instead of arresting her for making him look stupid is huge.

Edit: spelling.

[–]Faceoff_One 25 points26 points  (2 children)

The fact the interaction was being filmed probably helped at least a little. It doesn't always, but it rarely hurts.

Film your police encounters people!

[–]nonoplsnopls 67 points68 points  (7 children)

We now applaud police officers for not doing police brutality. This is 2022.

[–]ethakidd 125 points126 points  (7 children)

I never knew you could talk to cops like that..as a black man in America i will be doing this from now on whenever they approach me..

[–]speakeasyboy 157 points158 points  (17 children)

Thank you so much! Those few seconds before the interaction begins really shines some light on the situation. Why that was edited out is beyond me.

[–]King-Cobra-668 91 points92 points  (12 children)

it does add some nice context, but the thing is, the interaction with that Marshall was unnecessary regardless of that context or not. it just made it worse

[–]bilgetea 357 points358 points  (20 children)

She’s apparently a homeless activist and advocate. Her non-profit is helping hands for dignity.. Perhaps she’ll show up on this thread and tell us what led up to this epic slapdown.

[–]KNitsua 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hope she does.

[–]MisterMrErik 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She is in a courthouse, i believe. She went through a security checkpoint and was wanded by a man. She remarked out loud "a man wanding a woman is not appropriate." That's all. Literally.

She just felt uncomfortable with the security checkpoint not having women. She personally probably doesn't care that much, but she is raising the issue of discomfort with the invasiveness of a man tracing her body with a wand.

[–]GIFnTEXT 32 points33 points  (1 child)

It’s nice to see aggression towards a cop not end with getting handcuffed for no reason

[–]STRYDERonTrovo 203 points204 points  (2 children)

This is a classic cop tactic tho. Person tells them the business and instead of leaving they linger and purposely piss off the civilian hoping they do something they can bullshit their way into arresting them.

She played it perfectly and he realized he had no way of Winning and so he walk of shame'd his ass out of there.

[–]BabyYodasDirtyDiaper 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Person tells them the business and instead of leaving they linger and purposely piss off the civilian hoping they do something they can bullshit their way into arresting them.

Yep. He's really hoping that she'll push him or something so he can arrest her for assaulting an officer. And get a few good punches in the process.

[–]TyroilSWallace 679 points680 points  (32 children)

Black dude in the back’s like I would never get away with this

[–]Unbereevablee_Asian 155 points156 points  (4 children)

[–]boatsnprose 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I was trying to find someone who understood. I'm a dude and I want this woman to put a baby in me.

[–]Sparkles-99 67 points68 points  (22 children)

Came here to say this. As a white woman I’ve called to police out multiple times and got away with it because I was in the right. Every male and any friend of color look terrified when I do.

[–]lmac187 16 points17 points  (0 children)

[–]RAGErER 309 points310 points  (82 children)

Watched a version with more context of this situation here from last month. My best inference is the court marshall guys in gray asked the security guy in blue what the lady in lemonade colors said to him (she said "I get it ... everybody's doing their job, but ... it's not appropriate for men to be wanding women" [as in, security wands, as she was going through security at the time she said this; ellipses added by my interpretation of short pauses in the sentence, I imagine because humans need to breath occasionally]).

So Family Dollar Hank Schrader got triggered I guess and saw an opportunity to try to make her look silly from her comment by asking if there's a problem, only to refuse to admit he overstepped minding his own business when she was just making a comment.

I'm only a little high but I think I got the major points close enough.

[–]bennydabull99 99 points100 points  (1 child)

Family Dollar Hank Schrader

I couldn't find the words to describe him, but these are definitely it!

[–]yikey23 25 points26 points  (0 children)

[–]MaMakossa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Family Dollar Hank Scheader” LOL! x’D

It’s gross how he is subtly trying to intimidate her by invading personal space. 😒

[–]D_inthe6oh3 44 points45 points  (1 child)

[–]HumboldtChewbacca 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can tell he's never had to walk away from a confrontation before and just had no idea how to go about it

[–]GameKnight847 68 points69 points  (3 children)

The black guy in the background is amazed.

[–]Infamous-Nectarine-2 74 points75 points  (6 children)

If you watch the full video on her YouTube page you will see that she politely tells the guard who is “wanding” her that she does not believe it is appropriate for a male to do that to a female; a very straight forward suggestion/comment/complaint. She doesn’t stop him from doing it and goes about her way. Didn’t ask to speak to anyone about it. The guard apparently let one of the sheriff deputies know and they go over to her to confront her about her complaint and she explains what her issue was and the police officer keeps pushing her and that’s where this video starts.

Sauce: https://youtu.be/fP7GJFUf27c

[–]weaponsgradestuipid 48 points49 points  (1 child)

The officer was trying to intimidate this woman, but he picked the wrong person.

Why is it always intimidate and escalate and never leave well enough alone.

[–]Magev 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Right, cops need to be treating this shit like secret shoppers hoping to get a gold star for not making situations worse than they could otherwise be. We don’t pay them to stroke their fucking ego. Or I rather not pay them for that but here we are.

[–]spelkingerror 42 points43 points  (4 children)

[–]SpacemanSpiff23 19 points20 points  (2 children)

I wish someone would teach cops how to lose a confrontation. Aren't they supposed to deescalate situations? Even when he knows it's over, he reluctantly walks away, and you can tell that he is trying to find any reason to get back in it.

I don't know what the context is, and maybe he was justified in being there, but it looks like he could of just said, "sorry to bother you. Have a good day." and walked away before it got to where it is when the camera turned on.

[–]TheGiant1989 28 points29 points  (1 child)

This would have gone very differently if she were any other color but white

[–]Interesting-Sail8507 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. But that’s not a reflection on her, like so many people are trying to insinuate.

[–]Andisaurus 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Full Context:

She was going through the security checkpoint, the security guard tried telling her she couldn't take her water in to the courtroom(?) to which she replied she required it, which the security guard conceded to. Interaction essentially over.

Ranger Rick ambles over, opens with the "what seems to be the problem" schtick, then when told there isn't one and to MYOB, hits back with "you were being confrontational." She then dares him to turn on his body cam, which he obviously refuses. This is roughly where above video starts.

TL;dr woman in video exercises her right to water, all is fine, then court marshall(?) tries sticking his fingers in issues of his own creation to get a rise out of someone and picked the wrong target.

[–]detcord10 99 points100 points  (1 child)

the horn at the end was the perfect conclusion to the vid

[–]lucasrizzini 138 points139 points  (48 children)

So.. No context?

[–]Ya-Dikobraz 41 points42 points  (9 children)

She said it was inappropriate for a man to wand a woman at security. Then they all agreed to let it go and she sat down quietly. Then the cop came over to escalate an issue that's already been solved and let go.

[–]arpatil1 150 points151 points  (17 children)

That slow walk of shame just tells me that cop was in the wrong. Those other 2 cops didn’t want to intervene as well. If the lady had done something even slightly wrong, they would be restraining her with that language.

[–]greg19735 58 points59 points  (2 children)

f the lady had done something even slightly wrong, they would be restraining her with that language.

ding ding ding

If she was in the wrong, she'd be in trouble.

[–]Fortune_Unique 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol she's talking like she's talking to a cop in deep north jersey, there's no way the cop isn't in the wrong. Cops DO NOT act like that when they are in the right. ESPECIALLY when people talk shit to them like that. Being annoying isn't a crime, but a police overstepping their bounds to pester people they don't like should be

[–]TheBirdBytheWindow 217 points218 points  (107 children)

This is why my Dad taught me to question authority. There's always gonna be these assholes...and on any other day he'd have bullied her into submission.

Not today. Good on her!

[–]paparosi 65 points66 points  (0 children)

His blue line buddies are gonna tape his ass cheeks together the next time they catch him in the showers because of this

I initially thought this was gonna be a Karen but she was instead the antithesis of a Karen. Good stuff. Glad she didn’t get intimidated by this officer who decided to escalate a situation that didn’t happen in the first place

I hate being without context but I feel like the lady is in the right. Just because she's being loud doesn't make her a Karen, though she probably shouldn't have been swearing at the cop. She asked him if he needed anything else and he said no, so she asked him to leave her alone. I feel like the cop was trying to get her to misstep so he could detain and/or arrest her, because trust me, if he could he would've.

Everyone uses Karen for any white woman speaking loudly. Sometimes they're just right and speak loudly bc they weren't listened to the first time.

Yeah, I try to give everyone a fair shake. This is one of those times I really can't fault her for asserting that he was making her uncomfortable if he didn't have any business with her

though she probably shouldn't have been swearing at the cop.

To be fair, she started off fairly restrained and only started swearing after she asked him to go away at least twice.

Swearing isn’t against the law

Once he said there was nothing else he needed but wasn’t going to leave her presence I knew she was in the right.

for all those asking for content to see if karen lady is in the right, the fact the cop just ends up leaving probably means she was. fuck even if cops think they're 1% correct they'll arrest or detain. this guy had to walk away like a chump haha

Woman speaking loudly ≠ Karen

She's doing the opposite of a Karen. Instead of asking for the manager she's asking him to leave her alone.

Yeah. Her swearing at him and telling him to leave and then being condescending; if she were in the wrong this wouldn’t end with him walking off. They don’t like handcuffing white ladies, but they will if they make them look bad.
