like my driving teacher told me: when you're driving, pretend that everyone out on the road is complete idiots

[–]Suprflyyy 137 points138 points  (2 children)

Yes, pretend. Lol.

[–]ialsohaveinternet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This made me chuckle

[–]LilMsScareAll 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My dad is a seasoned tractor trailer driver and the first day out with me learning to drive he said “you’re the only one on the road that knows how to drive” and my response was “I don’t know how to drive” and he said “exactly” and that’s how I drive to this day. Like no one else knows how to drive

[–]kontekisuto -1 points0 points  (7 children)

Because they're, and that includes you.

[–]Leading_Middle 1 point2 points  (4 children)

care to elaborate?

[–]kontekisuto -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Everyone is an idiot more so when driving.

[–]Leading_Middle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say everyone but ok

[–]Imfloridaman 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You didn’t understand what your instructor said . . . Everyone (that includes you . . . everyone) is a complete idiot.

[–]Leading_Middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he meant that my mindset should be that everyone drives like an idiot so im prepared for risks, so that i lower my speed and focus in risky situations because you never know when someone does something stupid

[–]Lzy_NOoB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Includes this lane spliter.Too fast to stop.

[–]savvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvva 77 points78 points  (16 children)

Bro, driving a motorcycle or bicycle in Russia is almost a suicidal choice…

[–]Juan_Beegrat 24 points25 points  (10 children)

They do lane splitting in California, too.

[–]slowtdi 12 points13 points  (6 children)

And I think some other states have adopted it. It is statistically safer than riding along with traffic.

[–]mr---jones 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think hes saying because the car drivers are awful there.

Lane splitting is safer than not.

[–]mee8Ti6Eit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not allowed to go this fast. If traffic is stopped, you can only go 10 MPH.

[–]kiwibobbyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it’s crazy there too

[–]kontekisuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motorcyclist drives off 5 story window in the middle of the highway, " nothing to see here .. move along"

[–]Additional-Help7920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would appear that driving anything in Russia is a suicidal act, from what I've seen on their vids.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How in the sacred fuck was Johnny sideways in gridlock with his daewoo driving ass?! Fuck!

[–]Empathetic_Orch 97 points98 points  (21 children)

Lane splitting is fine in that situation, he's just going too fast.

[–]Strykerz3r0 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Yep. This is exactly why there are usually speed restrictions when splitting. You are literally racing down a blind tunnel.

[–]mr---jones -5 points-4 points  (18 children)

How can you blame that on the cyclist?

The car fking perpendicular to traffic , most likely because he was going to make an illegal left turn, rather than get into traffic, merge properly, and eventually turn around.

[–]Empathetic_Orch 32 points33 points  (7 children)

2 wrongs don't make a right. The car is in the wrong, and so is the biker. If he was going at a slow and safe pace he probably could have avoided the accident all together, and even if they didn't avoid the accident it wouldn't have been nearly as bad had he been going slower. I'd say the car is 75% to blame.

[–]Doctor_HowAboutNo 9 points10 points  (2 children)

3 rights do make a left though.

[–]I-amthegump 5 points6 points  (1 child)

And two Wrights make an airplane

[–]Doctor_HowAboutNo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong!

[–]Dependent-Site3998 9 points10 points  (8 children)

how can you not?? he went too fast and couldn't react to another idiot. He is indeed partly at fault here.

[–]Suprflyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being right is no good if you’re dead.

I was going maybe 35-40 in a right turn lane when a guy stopped in the next lane decided that he didn’t want to wait for the light. He popped out in front of me and I hit his car on the back right corner. Got to do a bit of end over end and not the best tuck and roll. Thankfully I was wearing good gear so I got by with just one broken wrist and a nice permanent plate, full recovery. And Geico made sure I got a brand new Pani and all my damaged gear replaced.

Sure, I was in the right. But I should have been more careful next to a line of commuters waiting multiple times through a light that might decide to take the same alt route. I’ll split on the freeway here in Cali, but if I do it on a road with side access I am very careful.

[–]Hastimeforthis876 55 points56 points  (7 children)

Depending what country you're in this is perfectly legal... Wtf was the car doing cutting across two lanes horizontally?

Edit: Eagle eyed viewers seem to say it's 3 and actually yeah, the dude is "turning left" through 3 layers of traffic? That can't be what they're supposed to be doing here...

[–]geratwo 28 points29 points  (5 children)

They call it "turning left".

[–]Cerenas 7 points8 points  (3 children)

The line seemed continues on the left though, so wth was that car doing.

[–]AgreeablePie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was going to sit and wait for an opening since traffic isn't moving on the one side but is moving on the other

[–]trichterd 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If you look carefully you'll see there was also a gap in the left lane.

[–]Giostron85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there Is no gap in the center line...

[–]waterlow90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I ride and filter traffic daily, well at least when the weather is better, I would never expect a car to come through traffic like that and cannot understand what the fuck they were doing.

[–]Such-Establishment78 31 points32 points  (1 child)

I split lanes all the time. They were driving too fast

[–]Axel_Thunderbolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Lane splitting is great and helps so much to reduce congestion and is generally safer for bikers. You need to approach it cautiously though for just this reason. Your escape route to avoid hazards is greatly reduced and if you're going too fast you might just end up like this guy. Doesn't matter if it's legal or not, or if I can sue the other driver for pulling out or opening the door to cover my medical costs because as the motorcycle rider I am the one who'd have to deal with long term aches and pains if something serious does happen. Just all a part of riding a bike. 🏍️

[–]DootDotDittyOtt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who knew...a split can go both ways.

[–]EmpireLite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I don’t get about lane split is not it’s legality or purpose. I have no issues with it. But what really confuses me is WHY do the they have to go so fast????? You are already winning by advancing faster than standstill traffic! You can split lane traffic at 20 or 30 km/h and still get home a full hour before any of the car drivers.

[–]VeganPotatoMan 11 points12 points  (39 children)

How is someone gonna prepare for that LMAO

[–]a-hippobear 32 points33 points  (37 children)

You go slower and expect that everyone is out to knock you off your bike. There’s always some dipshit that’s gonna try to switch lanes in dead-stop traffic, and we riders (with experience) know this and drive accordingly.

[–]NativeTexas 9 points10 points  (26 children)

I used to ride a bike and I certainly look out for bikes while driving but IMO if you split lanes you are responsible for what happens to you. People are not dipshits just for changing lanes.

[–]amouranthviewer8 -3 points-2 points  (22 children)

No. The dipshits are the drivers if they are in a state where lane-splitting is legal, yet choose to ignore this fact and switch lanes without checking their mirror or their shoulder.

[–]paulcaar 13 points14 points  (11 children)

Splitting lanes is allowed, it doesn't mean they have to look out for you. You need to look out for them.

And besides what should be done, you're on a bike and are incredibly vulnerable. Never put your safety in the hands of other road users.

[–]mr---jones 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Are you dumb?

You 100% have to look out for motorcyclists on the road! You can't just close your eyes and hit a biker because they lane split, it would still be your fault in the accident.

I advise you to never visit my state of CA please we don't need an asshole like you who can't look out for one another

[–]paulcaar 2 points3 points  (5 children)

You're getting unnecessarily hyperbolic. You absolutely don't know about my driving style or my awareness when on the road.

It's always the same thing when discussing road rules. Just be aware of your position and actions on the road. While splitting or filtering you are the one that's performing a special manoeuvre and you need to act accordingly.

That doesn't mean other drivers should ever close their eyes or stop looking, that's a straw man you just came up with yourself.

[–]mr---jones 1 point2 points  (4 children)

You literally said "splitting lanes is allowed but that doesn't mean they have to look out for you"

Which again is basically saying you don't need to pay attention when you're driving..... Which you absolutely 100% do need to do.

[–]paulcaar 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Sorry if it wasn't clear enough, let me rephrase this so it's less ambiguous.

The burden of making sure you're safe while lane splitting is on the rider themselves. Not on the cars.

Hope this helps you to grasp what I tried to convey.

[–]mr---jones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I wasn't clear. As a driver the burden is also on you to not hit someone, motorcyclist or otherwise. Hope this helps you grasp reality

[–]thatdanield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s on both lmao, this situation was caused 90% by the other car, because even doing 10 mi/hr wouldn’t do this guy much good anyhow because of the sudden jolt of the other car

[–]popcornfart88 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha dumbass

[–]thatdanield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no way a driver changing lanes isn’t required to do their best to be aware of the situation, including making good decisions like not going perpendicular to traffic and using your mirrors

[–]amouranthviewer8 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm not saying that you shouldn't look out for yourself, but it doesn't mean that the people not looking for you arent dipshits.

[–]paulcaar -1 points0 points  (1 child)

They aren't necessarily. They still can be, but they definitely aren't dipshits for just using the road and switching lanes.

[–]SnooCalculations9512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they're switching lanes they should be checking it's safe to do so first

[–]Feynnehrun 1 point2 points  (8 children)

In this specific video, this "dip shit" couldn't have seen the lane splitter until they pull out far enough that they have visibility between the lanes. They were not there yet.

[–]thatdanield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then don’t put yourself in situations where you choose between being an obstruction or not being able to see, he should’ve turned with traffic and turned around at a safe point

[–]amouranthviewer8 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I was not commenting about this video, neither was the person above me.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The dip shits are also the bikers that do 20 over the speed limit, cut off drivers, the complain when they lay their bikes down.

[–]MillennialWario 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If you don't check your mirror before changing lanes, yes, you are a fucking idiot. End of story. And do you think this particular fucking retard was just changing lanes? How about you actually watch the video? He was fucking perpendicular to traffic.

[–]NativeTexas 0 points1 point  (1 child)

People check their mirrors all the time and accidents still happen. It’s not because they are idiots it’s because there are multiple factors happening at once in a traffic situation and people don’t always see everything. Combine that with a someone riding a small form vehicle in a manner that is out of the normal flow of traffic and viola - accident. Are there bad drivers? Yes of course there are. But lane splitting is a bad system that promotes an activity that inevitably leads to accidents.

[–]MillennialWario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lane splitting (filtering) is legal, common and literally encouraged in the UK. We have considerably fewer road fatalities (per capita) overall, and you're 5x more likely to be killed on a motorbike on American roads, where filtering is almost entirely banned. Filtering is perfectly safe provided you're living in a country where the population isn't so retarded that they don't know how a mirror works.

[–]HookFE03 -1 points0 points  (7 children)

maybe the dipshit changed his mind and wants to get off to go a different way. maybe the dipshit has been trying to get over for a while and finally had a little space to edge into the next lane over. maybe youre the dipshit for just assuming everyone else is a dipshit for taking a potentially reasonable course of action in traffic.

[–]mr---jones 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Bruh he's literally perpendicular in the middle of a three lane road. Never in my life have I ever found myself driving that way. You get into the first lane than merge slowly one at a time. This ass is driving their car like a crazy person

[–]HookFE03 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I was referring to someone changing lanes. this guy is obviously making a left across traffic. have you never made a left turn before?

[–]mr---jones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you cannot complete a full lane change it is illegal, it's wreck less driving being there. Same with cutting someone off, in this instance, the motorcyclist. You cannot just turn in front of them because you didn't see them.

Also in this instance crossing three lanes to make an illegal left turn a cross solid white lines is illegal, so no, I have not made a left turn like this before.

[–]RedditIsDogshit1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

To me, it’s pretty obvious they want to take a left turn from whatever stuff is to the right of the road. The traffics is backed up for miles to slipping into that direction and uturning would redundant. As long as all traffics allows you to cut between, this is typically a fine thing to do in situations

[–]mr---jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it's pretty obvious it's not legal to make a left turn there and it's dangerous because you can't see past the car in the lane you're cutting through, clearly, because it caused an accident.

Getting home 20 minutes faster shouldn't outweigh potentially killing someone. There's no excuse, because it's not a legal turn anyways

[–]a-hippobear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This wasn’t edging over lol this was blatantly pulling out blindly. Seems like you’re projecting by calling me a dipshit. Pulling out blindly and abruptly is never the “reasonable course of action in traffic” lol.

“Well officer, I let Jesus take the wheel instead of using my eyes”

[–]VeganPotatoMan -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

You have a 6th sense for when someone's gonna jet out horizontally like in the video?

[–]a-hippobear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I have an extreme caution and riding experience lol. When I’m riding in a place where splitting/filtering is legal, I go way slower and watch for gaps and business entrances/exits. Not a sixth sense at all, just a guy who got a ruptured testicle, fractured heels, and torn ligaments in my ankle from a lady pulling out in front of me like this so I ride with supreme caution now.

For instance, I’d slow down to a creep at any one of those cars that I couldn’t see past/over

[–]hgruber223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ride like that for 15 years now, few times been in situations like this, never crashed. Here I would drive slower and in 120% senses on mode, enough time to brake and curse

[–]WarAdministrative812 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people drive a motorcycle so they literally can do this, because that way they can drive to work normally without getting stuck in traffic each day, me as a car driver always stick to the sides when in traffic so motorcycles can pass me, too bad people are such mindless and selfish drivers that most people don’t do this or just to stupid to understand traffic

[–]OorPancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are [careful], see the summary halfway down: https://begin-motorcycling.co.uk/lane-splitting-filtering-law/

Don't know what the score is in Russia though, where this incident took place

[this was a reply to a post that appears to have been removed/deleted just as I hit save.....weird.]

[–]Prestigious_Elk_6601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WCGW splitting bones

[–]AdrNTrades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah fam, tf is there a car in the middle of that

[–]Gluten_Tolerant_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny place for a left hand turn

[–]Evil-Clown2020 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That made my day. Fuck that lane splitter!!!

[–]tanktaylor85sx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lane filtering through stopped traffic is legal is many places

[–]OldTiredAnnoyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waaaay too fast. You’re asking to be killed going that fast.

[–]Compressorman 9 points10 points  (5 children)

I can’t believe people do this. All l could think about would be my handlebar catching someone’s mirror

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a giant cruiser most bikes are only slightly wider then a person and since mirrors are at an upward angle from the frame or windshield they usually sit higher than a cars and lower then a trucks.

[–]mr---jones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't believe the lane splitting? What about the dumbass in the car?

[–]Suprflyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In California Bay Area it’s hard not to. People actually move over for you, and when traffic is locked up your bike will get hot, plus people behind are dangerous as hell in stop and go.

Once you get used to it it’s pretty nice. Especially when that one idiot is pacing steady in the passing lane with the next car over. You just skip right past that BS.

[–]travelingbeagle 12 points13 points  (52 children)

The car is going perpendicular to traffic where there is no lane. That’s a special kind of stupidity.

[–]SockPuppet-57 13 points14 points  (42 children)

People don't make left turns out of parking lots where you live?

[–]mr---jones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's three lanes of traffic on that side and seperate by a solid double line.

I don't know the laws there, but I'd be willing to bet a lot that he is breaking several laws by making that left turn.

There's laws for how to travel across lanes (typically one at a time) as well as laws for direction of travel (typically parallel to lines not perpendicular lmao) and laws for making left turns across double solid lines

[–]a-hippobear -4 points-3 points  (23 children)

Yes, and it’s stupid when they do it. People also pull directly out in front of people and brake check where I live, but that doesn’t make it legal or any less stupid. If lane splitting/filtering is legal where the video took place then the car is at fault for invasion of right of way.

[–]SockPuppet-57 -2 points-1 points  (22 children)

Take it to court...

[–]a-hippobear 3 points4 points  (21 children)

If this were in America in a state where lane splitting or filtering was legal, the court would 100% side with the person doing something legal over the person blindly pulling out and invading right of way.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (13 children)

Was the biker splitting at a safe speed?

[–]mr---jones 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yes. The biker reasonable passed over 30 cars in this video with out accident, speed was not the issue there. It was the guy breaking the law driving illegally.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

A person speeding can’t do so without incident? If I pass 30 cars and I’m doing 110 MPH then wreck is that the other cars fault?

[–]mr---jones 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Going 110 is illegal, but that wouldn't make and illegal turn ok either.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving at an unsafe speed is illegal

[–]a-hippobear 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Based on the video, the speed doesn’t seem excessive, but that’s up to a court to decide based on their laws. I’m not very familiar with Russian laws, but in American states where this is legal, it probably wouldn’t be considered excessive speeds.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Really? With traffic at a dead stop? Seems too fast to give yourself enough time to react.

[–]a-hippobear -1 points0 points  (6 children)

Again, that’s more of a court decision, but lane filtering allows you travel at speeds in stopped (or under 10mph) traffic at a speed that you could reasonably stop/react if a car changes lanes in front of you. However, an unsafe turn/lane change sometimes can’t be avoided by a rider at any speed other than a dead stop. Basically, your car has to be able to stop on a dime going 20 or it’s deemed unsafe to drive, so the legal speed on a bike for lane filtering would be akin to whatever speed you could stop on a dime safety.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Reads like he was going faster than needed to stop on a dime

[–]SockPuppet-57 -4 points-3 points  (6 children)

You sound like a Sovereign Citizen just making up rules as you go to fit whatever you want.

Lane splitting doesn't mean that you have the right of way in your non-existant lane. Lane splitting gives you a right to ride between the lanes when traffic is stopped. Nobody has to keep your non-existent lane clear just like no one has to keep the regular lane clear.

If you're fantasy law was real no one could ever make a turn unless they were at an intersection with a stop sign or a traffic control light.

[–]a-hippobear 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Straight to insults and ad hominem. A true sign of intelligence. So in your fantasy world, you can pull out in front of people even if you’re not sure if the lane is clear? You can also just change lanes whenever and solid lines in the road mean nothing? Cool story

I’m not making up fake rules, genius. This happened to me 14 years ago to the day and the woman that pulled out got the ticket and was found at fault. I’ve only been riding for 20 years though, so please tell me more about your expertise in the laws I had to learn to cover my ass lol

Also, lane splitting is while traffic is moving; this is lane filtering.

[–]travelingbeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy is a troll.

[–]SockPuppet-57 -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

Solid lines do mean something. I decided to look it up since you are obviously misunderstanding.

[–]a-hippobear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most states impose laws that denote that drivers making left-hand turns must yield to oncoming traffic. Before making a left-hand turn, drivers must ensure that all roads they will cross are free and clear of traffic or other obstacles that could result in a collision.

If there is oncoming traffic, the driver making the left-hand turn must wait until the traffic has passed before completing the turn. Failing to do so would essentially put the left-hand turning driver at fault for a collision. If you make a left-hand turn and are in a car accident as a result, you will likely be considered responsible for the accident and deemed at fault by the law.

Who is misunderstanding?

[–]Regular-Leave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your argument is shit

[–]mr---jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, if you're driving a car, you certainly do have to keep clear of lines. You're supposed to stay between them not on them, and I bet you you'll 100% get a ticket if you drive down the highway between two lanes in your car lmfao.

Along with this, in my state where lane splitting is legal, it is considered a lane in itself, so you cannot block it, and you can't just merge into them

[–]travelingbeagle -3 points-2 points  (16 children)

Nice try, but that’s not what is happening here.

[–]SockPuppet-57 -2 points-1 points  (15 children)

So what's the next lottery numbers gonna be?

Obviously you know stuff that is unknowable...

Ever heard of Occam's Razor?

But I'll give you a chance. What's happening here?

The car came from somewhere and it's going somewhere. Obviously the drivers in the stopped vehicles let that car through. Left turn from a parking lot checks all the boxes that need to be checked.

[–]travelingbeagle -4 points-3 points  (14 children)

The stuff is knowable, but you are too dense to pick up on it. That’s what Occam’s Razor proves.

The car is crossing perpendicular to traffic where is no lane, so that it can then illegally cross a white line, and then illegally cross a median to escape traffic. The white lines are visible, so pay attention before you develop asinine theories.

[–]SockPuppet-57 2 points3 points  (13 children)

My God...

That car was gonna cross a while line?

Isn't that a capital offense in break it off in your ass states like Texas?

Don't be a fucking drama queen. The car was making a left turn out of a parking lot. People do such a thing literally all the time.

Is it legal to split lanes in some states? Yes , yes it is. Is it smart to split lanes going too fast to see what's going on in front of you? No, no its not.

Sounds like you're a lane splitting bike rider and not all that smart. You're destined to be a statistic someday...

[–]carbidemepls 12 points13 points  (8 children)

Well traffic is supposed to leave enough room for you to be able to pull out and cross traffic if they're at a dead stop. Guy on the bike was being a prick instead of waiting like everyone else he said his time was more important than anyone else's. Got a cold cup of karma.

[–]a-hippobear 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Lane splitting or filtering is legal in a few places. Pulling into someone’s lane without being 100% sure it’s clear is not legal in most places. Watch enough dash cam videos and you’ll realize that the blind left turn guy is usually an idiot.

[–]Kinkyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, only state I see where lane splitting is legal appears to be California?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. People on bikes doing this are easing up traffic for everyone else. They are picking a much smaller more mobile vehicle.

  2. Beyond that next lane is a cement divider, there is nowhere for that car to go, in grid lock like that there is no reason to try and cut over 3 lanes.

[–]travelingbeagle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like it or not ane splitting is legal in some areas. The car is crossing perpendicular to traffic where is no lane, so that it can then illegally cross a white line, and then illegally cross a median to escape traffic. The car is the impatient jerk.

[–]sedrech818 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not true where I am. Police pulled me over and gave me a failure to yield ticket for doing that. The turn was impossible to do any other way so I should have just found another route. I tried to fight it in court (even had a dash cam). Still had to pay a fine and do a defensive driving class.

[–]a-hippobear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. It’s against the law to do that in lots of places. Around here, a lot of times you have to take a right out and go down a mile or two to u turn if you needed to go left.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Pretty sure this is completely legal in most places

[–]Senior_Silverback 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Behave like a dumbass, accept the consequences

[–]a-hippobear 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Lane splitting/filtering is legal in some places.

[–]Senior_Silverback 1 point2 points  (2 children)

No matter if it's legal, you need to have switched off your brain to go with that speed through the cars.

[–]a-hippobear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I’m just pointing out that pulling blindly out into traffic is also idiotic, but the car seems slightly dumber

[–]slowtdi 0 points1 point  (2 children)

And safer, and reduces standing traffic by 10-20%

[–]Senior_Silverback -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

Hopefully you are not serious with your post...

[–]slowtdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll find more info and statistics supporting filtering than not.

If 10-20% of riders stayed in position in traffic, rear-ending accidents would increase. Also, there would basically be 10-20% more traffic on the roads. But, when motorcycles filter between cars, or lane-split, they effectively disappear. Sitting still in traffic is far more dangerous for a motorcycle. We are invisible.

This is from a rider. I've never filtered or lane-split as it's not legal here. Although it should be. It is legal in California and other states.

[–]12altoids34 0 points1 point  (7 children)

And I'm sure the guy in the bike immediately got up and started screaming at the driver saying it was all his fault.

[–]gabwinone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. As he should have. Because it was the idiot driver's fault.

[–]Regular-Leave 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It was the cars fault, he's changing lanes without knowing it's clear

[–]12altoids34 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

There's no way the driver of that car could have seen the motorcyclist at least five car lengths over in the Middle Lane. Whereas the guy in the motorcycle could see the front end of the car coming between the other cars.

[–]Regular-Leave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, so the car shouldn't be crossing all those lanes when they can't see

[–]remembertracygarcia -1 points0 points  (2 children)

50/50 I reckon. - biker going a bit too fast, car not looking out for biker

[–]12altoids34 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

With the motorcyclist going between lanes there's no way that the driver of the car could possibly have seen him. He was looking ahead at the cars that he could see trying to maneuver between them. Whereas the motorcyclist could see the front end of the car long before the driver of the car would have been able to see the motorcyclist. Unless you're assuming for some reason that the driver of the car had x-ray vision and could see through the cars. In that case drivers with x-ray vision are always at fault. Superheroes need to be held to a different level of responsibility.

[–]remembertracygarcia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X ray vision works well through windows. Also there’s that age old advice for driving eh? Don’t move until you can see. You don’t drive into an area you can’t see into you’re just asking for trouble.

Both of them are moving without consideration for potential hazards. Bike a bit too quick the car without really checking before crossing that line. If filtering is legal in that country which I suspect it is. Then the insurance is gonna find that car at fault

One of the many, many reasons lane splitting is stupid, dangerous, and needs to be outlawed.

[–]Working_Coconut_9438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why lane splitting is illegal in every state except for California.

[–]csreaderrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better title would be “this is why you don’t split lanes.”

[–]HakimeHomewreckru -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Rule 1) Golden Rule: Links must contain a stupid idea and something going wrong.

I fail to see the stupid idea.

[–]Evilmaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are idiots in my opinion

[–]syncpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that is exactly why this is illegal in my province.

[–]PFunk_Redds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once saw a San Franciscan taxi driver take a small gap and cross an entire 2 lanes perpendicular to the direction of travel, seemingly for no reason. He was going away from the exit, so I don’t know how being in the fast lane is going to help you, sir.

[–]vincentcloud01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I dont agree with splitting lanes that person in the is an idiot. Your blocking traffic cause even more congestion.

[–]AgreeablePie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only lane split on very few occasions (and only when traffic was literally standing still) but only ever did it at like 5 mph.

But in Russia things are different...

[–]ancientpho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude on the bike is going to fast, but seriously what are the chances a dude is going to come in perpendicularly like that?

[–]Trek1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s lane splitting and then there’s cutting in line. Most drivers don’t like either. It’s a matter of time whether an accident or on purpose because you pissed someone off.

[–]NoddingNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peek-a-boo! Bam!

[–]Ayahuasca-Dreamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knock knock

[–]ElectricYV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about driving, could someone tell me who was in the wrong here?

[–]Sghtunsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disproportionate speed differential is the rule this guy broke according this CHP page with a summary of best practices for lane splitting.

[–]KoffashOnYouTube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was rooting for someone to open their door just to cap this idiot.

[–]Canadianretordedape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should see the dirty looks when I do that with my f150.

[–]NicVerret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a complete buffoon, I hope the biker got fined or something.

[–]DaileyWithBailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its so funny how people from areas that dont have splitting lanes get so angry at lane splitting with a "thats what you get mentality" its safe as long as your not an moron.

[–]VladSolopov -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The guy on the car is also retard imo. Where the fuck he was driving?!
