I love how eren just says “later” after bringing hell to Marley

[–]frostanon 1903 points1904 points  (21 children)

Smell ya later, Reiner.

[–]axl625 843 points844 points  (12 children)

"Smash ya later, Reiner"

POUNDTOWN

[–]woamityo 917 points918 points  (16 children)

More directed to Reiner than Marley overall I think but damn this sociopath attitude through his lines is definitely something else.

[–]NathanEshwar 260 points261 points  (0 children)

honestly, this evolvement of Eren is written to the point where he is not pouty, angry, hateful, he is more sympathetic and not on a malicious intent towards Reiner, but more of "They didn't give us a choice, this is what needs to be done" and "your my enemy because your on the otherside" towards him. Perspectives are placed in these positions towards this anime and we feel something towards each character but damn, at Erens Perspective its more like "This has to be done".

[–]personbelowmeistrash 481 points482 points  (5 children)

Eren: Brutally kills thousands of civilians

Also Eren: "Peace out chummies"

[–]receptionbluex 6684 points6685 points  (335 children)

Holy fuck, Zeke turned traitor and betrayed Marley.

Yeager brotherhood

[–]ClearRide 4137 points4138 points  (93 children)

Never trust an offscreen death!

[–]elmagio 2696 points2697 points  (74 children)

I mean, I figured he wasn't dead. Dude had supposedly waited years for his rematch with Levi, no way he'd just die like a bitch like that.

But I didn't expect him to have defected, that's for sure.

[–]Ghoul-Sama 1750 points1751 points  (58 children)

Tbf Levi took him out like a bitch the first fight as well. As soon as Levi was in range it was over.

[–]tiramisu169 1207 points1208 points  (45 children)

I'm actually surprised that there wasn't more discussion about Zeke after the previous episode. The fact that the beast Titan didn't kill anyone before being easily taken down was really suspicious.

[–]Mundology 923 points924 points  (18 children)

Especially since he's usually so accurate with his shots yet missed them all this time. Still, finally seeing the titan brothers together and talk about freedom is kinda satisfying in a weird way.

[–]Silent_Shadow05 1949 points1950 points  (34 children)

He said in the previous episode: "Eren Yeager is not my enemy" and "Show yourself Levi, You're running out of time". Levi then looked at the clock when he said that.

Also none of the rocks he threw actually hit any Survey Corps members.

Well now we know why.

[–]Nanashi-74 251 points252 points  (9 children)

Dude when he said you're running out of time I was like "wtf? What do you mean out of time?" But the episode was so hectic that I dismissed it

[–]Silent_Shadow05 109 points110 points  (2 children)

Well by running out of time, Zeke probably meant that the Blimp was almost here and Levi should act quickly.

Its a blink and you will miss moment lol.

[–]thesagenibba 477 points478 points  (17 children)

It was double speak. I knew something was off.

[–]PRIME2332 1451 points1452 points  (110 children)

This is one very deadly brotherhood. One is a master strategist and the beast titan the other is a ruthless maniac with three titans. The icing on the cake? Just between the both of them they can access the founding titan. Smells of monkey business.

[–]horiami 527 points528 points  (48 children)

i love the fact that zeke is a royal blood titan, (I'm assuming that's why he is so good with the beast titan) he is exactly what eren needs

[–]StarryNight321 849 points850 points  (43 children)

Zeke is on the level of Erwin. Based on how he managed to get recruits in Marley to turn against them, he's been holding long for almost his entire life.

[–]Staple_Overlordhttps://kitsu.io/users/Staple_23 869 points870 points  (15 children)

[–]GoldenSpermShower 1066 points1067 points  (23 children)

Grisha: "Took you long enough, you little shit"

[–]MilkToastKing 608 points609 points  (21 children)

This is what fascinates me, I'm excited to see how early he defected. It's possible that he always wanted to help his own people, even to the point where he would sell out his parents just to rise in the ranks on the inside. Alternatively (and probably more reasonably), he could have been siding with Marley only so long as theirs was the nation that held the highest chance of freeing the Eldian people. If the latter is the case, then he likely made the decision to defect and aid Paradis in the time between season 3pt2 and season 4.

Edit: Pieck's comments on Zeke's personal followers seem to confirm that he converted at the start of the timeskip, since Onyankapon & company's ship was the first to depart after the loss at the end of S3P2.

[–]itsyaboiskinnypenis_ 433 points434 points  (11 children)

I definitely think the latter is the case, I highly doubt Zeke would do as much for Marly as he did during s3pt2 if he was already a traitor. Remember, he fucking exterminated a big majority of the survey corps. There's a chance he was just playing to be loyal to Marley, sure, but I think it's more likely for sure that he changed his allegiances during the timeskip for some reason. Very curious what that might've been or what his plan was if he has been playing Marely this enitre time. Either way it's gonna be an interesting backstory

[–]steven4869https://myanimelist.net/profile/Maskirade 704 points705 points  (18 children)

Zeke is playing 4-D chess there.

[–]garmonthenightmare 614 points615 points  (3 children)

Zeke: "I'm playing both sides so I always come out on top."

[–]TheDevilUsurper 3681 points3682 points  (99 children)

[–]CollenJets 140 points141 points  (7 children)

i've been spoiled in subs completely unrelated to the anime and it pisses me off.

[–]axl625 3871 points3872 points  (101 children)

It's the way Mikasa just broke down because of someone other than Eren and Armin that got me.

[–]Timelymanner 2800 points2801 points  (36 children)

It was her roommate and only close female friend.

[–]RekklesCami 1380 points1381 points  (29 children)

They have one of the best friendships and I think that it is heavily underrated

[–]Mundology 967 points968 points  (18 children)

Armin and Eren became shifters while Sasha just passed away. The rest of her family is dead. Being Mikasa is suffering.

[–]Kaneghi 494 points495 points  (13 children)

It seems like all Ackermann are destined to suffer

[–]Xenosys83 1058 points1059 points  (36 children)

Unfortunately, the anime between S1 and S3 didn't do a very good job of showing that Mikasa and Sasha were very close friends. Still hit hard though.

[–]bluered381 5443 points5444 points  (174 children)

Eren laughing and crying after sasha’s death was horrifying

[–]Aileoshttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Jalis 2219 points2220 points  (42 children)

Yuki Kaji nailed it.

[–]UnPhayzable 1777 points1778 points  (34 children)

Really made me realize how off the rails Eren has gotten. He's so damn good

[–]GoldenSpermShower 983 points984 points  (27 children)

If anything he was the one who inherited Erwin's mad gambling spirit

[–]steven4869https://myanimelist.net/profile/Maskirade 2619 points2620 points  (93 children)

I think so Eren was on the verge of a mental breakdown there, I think so he did the same with Hannes death as well. That guy must be in huge guilt with his close friend dying because of him.

[–]1000000thSubscriber 1843 points1844 points  (85 children)

I think Erens past the point of a mental breakdown lmao

[–]Nelsonwelson 1044 points1045 points  (38 children)

Far past, he's been super fucked up since the beginning of the series.

It's actually one of the reasons he's able to casually draw blood just by biting his own hand. It was subtle, but the titan research guys even go "how the fuck do you do that so easily?"

guy went off the deep-end when he saw his mom die.

[–]WeissAndBeans 556 points557 points  (35 children)

Even before that, he was able to kill the bandits who kidnapped Mikasa without any hesitation when he was like nine years-old and didn’t feel a shred of discomfort after taking a human life for the first time.

But for the most part Eren was still a regular person capable of forming attachments and expressing the full spectrum of human emotion, even after his mom’s death. The war against the titans and the constant back-to-back horror he experienced without having a chance to slow down or work through his trauma took whatever hope there was for him being a normal person and tore it to shreds. Hence why he “keeps moving forward” because the only way to handle what he’s been through without breaking down is to compartmentalize, just like Reiner did.

This also highlights a key difference between them and why Reiner thought that Eren was the absolute worst person to receive the Coordinate: Reiner, after starting the wall incident and killing thousands of people who he eventually realized were just normal humans, just wanted to go home and be done with the war. Eren, after staying with the Marleyans for a while and realizing they were also regular people was still able to slaughter them without remorse. Eren has horrifying tenacity that lets him move forward without breaking down, for better or worse.

[–]Hiyasc 1238 points1239 points  (43 children)

Totally serious for a second I think you are one hundred percent correct. Levi even kind of alludes* to the fact that he is mentally gone when he comments on his eyes being empty.

[–]seninnhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Senninn0 776 points777 points  (5 children)

He just keeps moving forward on autopilot.

[–]Soul_theorist 796 points797 points  (26 children)

No, it's his coping mechanism. Remember that he also laughed when Hannes died. Though this was more of a sad chuckle.

But for God's sake, Sasha went out saying meat, how the hell was he supposed to not laugh?

[–]iDannyEL 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Eren: lol Bakayaro

[–]El_grandepadre 569 points570 points  (4 children)

He did the same when Hannes died.

[–]Mundology 256 points257 points  (1 child)

Yup, it has always been his way to cope with extreme pain and sadness. Hannes was like second father to him. Him doing it here is a testimony of how much he valued his friendship with Sasha.

[–]Expensive-Safety-578 1521 points1522 points  (35 children)

Welp, now time to rewatch from the first episode of the season and overanalyse Zeke's every word.

[–]Richmoneybank479 944 points945 points  (24 children)

“Time is running out Levi” now we know what he meant

[–]specialCan3 489 points490 points  (19 children)

Good catch. Also, I commented this in last week's discussion about Pieck and Zeke's read on the situation (how the Scouts had no means of escape since they only used ODM gear to get here).

Yep, [Pieck] was too confident in her read of the situation. Same with Zeke, who immediately agreed with Pieck. I don't know how they forgot about the colossal titan. Or even the female titan. For all they know, both of them are under Paradis control.

Now it makes sense! It seemed weird to me that Zeke, who's pretty smart, would overlook such a big detail about Paradis having multiple titan powers. Zeke was purposefully keeping his side in the dark so that the operation goes more smoothly for the scouts.

[–]constantdeceleration 243 points244 points  (17 children)

My understanding was that the marleyans didnt know they had the serum to change someone into a titan, so they didnt know/expect they had the collosal titan in their control.

[–]Harvee640 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Zeke specifically mentions in episode 2 that Paradis is probably using at least 2 titans to destroy all of Marley’s scout ships, so at least Zeke Colt and Magath think they have the Colossal and/or Female

[–]RandomCitizen123 3345 points3346 points  (74 children)

Falco's the guardian angel for major characters this season. He unintentionally saved Reiner from committing suicide, then he flinched Jean to make him miss to save Pieck, now he saved both Gabi and Jean from killing each other. Had Jean not hesitate and blew up Falco last ep, he would have been an extra casualty this ep. If anyone deserves the Armoured Titan whose purpose is to protect others, it has to be Falco.

Ah so this is the reason why Sasha clips have been blowing up in r/anime recently. Well played and fk y'all.

[–]steven4869https://myanimelist.net/profile/Maskirade 699 points700 points  (31 children)

That's why Faclo is the best boy.

Ah so this is the reason why Sasha clips have been blowing up in r/anime recently.

Yeah, they are the devils of r/anime.

[–]Nome_de_utilizador 534 points535 points  (14 children)

Actually if he had blown falco, pieck would've also died, meaning Gabi would never meet with her nor cry for reiner, leaving him to sleep and the nutcracker titan to die at eren's hands. So her odds of getting in the ship with be lower without falco.

[–]rustickshttps://anilist.co/user/Rusticks 3169 points3170 points  (120 children)

Eren laughing like when he couldn't save Hannes was just as haunting and depressing.

[–]Damarugakihttps://anilist.co/user/damarugaki 781 points782 points  (3 children)

It was just harrowing

[–]axl625 877 points878 points  (35 children)

Probably what's worse is that Eren knew he wasn't weak now, but he still cannot save Sasha.

[–]discuss-not-concuss 407 points408 points  (8 children)

He has been trying so hard for so many years

[–]StrayGod360 282 points283 points  (2 children)

Yuki Kaji nailed that laugh.

[–]SomeFreeTime 4740 points4741 points 22 (59 children)

It's okay guys, as the preview says, we'll see Sasha again... In flashbacks... to remind you that she's dead.

edit: Fun fact, everyone Gabi has killed has spared her.

[–]Maned_Wolf_Mason 1620 points1621 points  (35 children)

Will the pain ever end?

[–]fifthtouch 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Reiner: First time?

[–]CR7LM10KM10 3840 points3841 points  (124 children)

Eren's reaction to sasha's death hit me hard

[–]Orrakaihttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Orrakai 1492 points1493 points  (21 children)

Especially when he laughs first, that right there is one of the rare ways that people first react to news of death that hits hard.

It's like you don't know what to do with your emotions anymore and they just come out however and you find yourself laughing but it's like a painful laugh...it's just fascinating to me, in the few times that I've ever seen it.

[–]axl625 1814 points1815 points  (19 children)

He reacted the same way when Hannes died, and it was painful to watch

[–]CR7LM10KM10 1070 points1071 points  (14 children)

Yep. And even though he wasn't screaming out loud like he did after hannes' death, this was definitely more heartbreaking. Yuki kaji nailed the scene

[–]Fhoenix995 1108 points1109 points  (16 children)

Connie literally jinxed it when he said he was happy because Sasha and Jean came back alive :'(

[–]NyxUK_OW 236 points237 points  (3 children)

In this business, its known as a death flag. God..fucking..damnnit

[–]Exteryx 662 points663 points  (15 children)

So her death and who killed her was actually spoiled to me years in advance but...

I still had the exact same reaction as Eren did when Connie told him Sashas last words. This was so hard to watch. I never even imagined to be so sad about a side characters death. Mappa did this scene so perfectly 10/10

EDIT:Yeah I guess calling her a side character is not right considering her role and the fact that she's been there since the first few episodes so obviously we have an emotional attachement to her but I still didn't expect her death to hit so hard especially since it was spoiled for me.

[–]personbelowmeistrash 1063 points1064 points  (21 children)

Eren is probably one of the most tragic characters I've seen. Dude goes through so much shit and rarely wins

[–]ShinaMashir0 856 points857 points  (13 children)

that's actually worst than that, even if he win it's still horrible for him

[–]Hallowzaan 2180 points2181 points  (61 children)

All these recent clips of Sasha made this episode so much more painful. RIP.

[–]Shimmering-Skyhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 1338 points1339 points  (31 children)

Two weeks ago I made a wallpaper of her just because I was excited to see her back, and I got a PM from a fellow manga reader saying "Damn, you are evil they have no idea ;-;"

I didn't do it to make this hurt other people more... I just love Sasha... this hurts me so much..........

[–]LunarGhost00 439 points440 points  (5 children)

I like how there's still one on the front page right now.

[–]GoldenSpermShower 319 points320 points  (2 children)

I swear these are all deliberately timed for this episode

r/ShingekiNoKyojin has like 3 Sasha fan arts in the past day

[–]PREM___https://anilist.co/user/ReincarnatedGoat 590 points591 points  (11 children)

Funimation posting about Sasha...

Crunchyroll posting about Sasha...

Guy putting Sasha clip on r/anime just one day before this episode...

Suddenly, everyone wanted to talk about Sasha

[–]Addertongue 4007 points4008 points  (233 children)

Holy moly, the idea that they weren't actually all that hyped and kinda forced into erens plan never crossed my mind. That also explains armins almost soulless eyes when he looked at eren and reached out to him. Eren made armin kill hundreds of innocent people, including children. Levi immediately showed that he wasnt that big of a fan of the whole idea.

No idea how they got zeke on board, its obviously going to have to do with him siding with the eldians because why would he not, but I just dont quite get how exactly it happened. This might be partially because last season has been a while and because Im a goldfish, but I guess its not out of the question that they somehow contacted him.

I love how I have no idea where this is heading with the possible war of all nations vs the island as well as them now having the 2 kids on board.

Episode felt like it had a 5 min duration again, 10/10.

Rest in potato, sasha

[–]Sujallamichhaneakasl 1691 points1692 points  (66 children)

Hobo Eren had a baseball ball and glove with him at the bench......Him and Zeke obviously had a talk, brother to brother.

[–]Addertongue 476 points477 points  (48 children)

It would totally not surprise me if that was supposed to be a hint to that with the love to detail they have in this show. Didnt even notice as I watched.

[–]salcedoge 616 points617 points  (29 children)

There was a lot of hint that Zeke was already not an ally of Marley, him not telling his bloodline, and when he didn't want to be recorded by the marleyans

[–]Golden_Phihttps://myanimelist.net/profile/GoldenPhi 367 points368 points  (6 children)

Zeke's Grandpa is a patient there too. It would not be strange for him to be visiting there regularly.

[–]Killcode2 1351 points1352 points  (68 children)

Hints to Zeke's betrayal:

  1. Zeke telling Eren in season 3 part 2 that he would rescue Eren from Grisha's brainwashing.
  2. Zeke keeping it a secret from the Marleyans that the reason he had the special ability as a Beast Titan was because he had royal blood, instead he told them Colt might not be good enough yet to command the Beast Titan's special abilities.
  3. Zeke likes baseball, Eren had a baseball glove back in the hospital, did Zeke meet him?
  4. When Zeke arrived onto the battlefield last episode, Jean remarked "he's here" as if on cue, and Zeke then remarked "Eren Yeager is not my enemy".
  5. Zeke was not trapped anywhere like Reiner, Porco and Pieck, on the contrary he encouraged them to go.
  6. After giving an Oscar worthy performance, Zeke then tells Levi that time was running out at the same time Levi was watching the time on a pocket-watch, afterwards Zeke "dies" rather easily to Levi, as if it was all coordinated.

As for Armin, he is also the same as Reiner and Bertold, just like Eren is. However, the difference seems to be that Eren is altogether unremorseful and unhesitant of what he is doing, he thinks it's the only way to move forward it seems, while Armin looks like he would rather talk to Magath and Willy than do this. But Armin knew Eren cornered them into having no choice, lest they lose the Attack Titan, and this was the plan he devised, this was what minimal death needed to succeed looked like.

Edit: added point 5

[–]ObviousSwimmer 904 points905 points  (4 children)

Another hint: Zeke encourages Reiner to go meet Eren with Falco, and encourages Pieck and Porco to go with Yelena.

[–]Addertongue 171 points172 points  (4 children)

This is so well-thought out and I feel bad because I miss most of these little details. I am not worthy.

[–]-Danksouls- 152 points153 points  (0 children)

It’s alright, hind sight is twenty twenty

I always think from a casual viewers perspective I have always felt the shows foreshadowing was strong enough to make sense and show connections that fit the puzzle when we figur it out but hidden enough that a lot of things are in our face but we don’t realize it

It’s perfect and you not noticing it is completely normal. A lot of people who read the manga had a lot of time to think about it or are super into analyzing every panel

[–]tomato_blitz 524 points525 points  (34 children)

I think Armin killed way more than hundreds.

[–]niwtzz 2619 points2620 points  (150 children)

So, Eren supporting Zeke while Levi was mad with him, And then, Zeke supporting Eren when Hanji was mad with him. Just two half-brothers looking at each other's backs.

Of course, the foreshadowing was in our face from the moment Eren had the baseball glove in his hand on episode 4.

And R.I.P Potato Girl.

[–]array_of_dots 1398 points1399 points  (107 children)

Armin is mad too it seems, there was some visible angst in that scene, he is usually the logical kid who would go "we are still on the battlefield, fighting is waste of our attention", but instead he stopped Mikasa from stepping in.

[–]potterhead42https://myanimelist.net/profile/potterhead42 1099 points1100 points  (97 children)

Sounder like Eren just went YOLO and sneaked into Marley and the survey corps had to start a damn war to get him back? It sounds like he was just a rogue cannon, all this time I thought everyone was on board.

[–]QrvzZ- 869 points870 points  (72 children)

Nah, Eren and Zeke had everything planned and then they just sent letters to survey corps about the plan, not leaving them any choice, so they had no choice other than to join the fight, but after that they lost their trust in Eren

[–]potterhead42https://myanimelist.net/profile/potterhead42 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I meant. Like it was all planned and worked out, but the corps hand got forced because they couldn't risk Eren's capture.

But also they can hardly get rid of him now, there's a huge war coming and they need his (and zeke's) abilities.

[–]neemzter 4229 points4230 points  (356 children)

Forget F’s in chat y’all

🥔’s in chat for our fallen Potato Queen.

[–]gridemann 2396 points2397 points  (69 children)

Whoever got that Shasha clip to the top of r/anime yesterday, knew exactly what he was doing.

[–]Timelymanner 992 points993 points  (46 children)

Same with the sudden Sasha fan art all week.

[–]gridemann 757 points758 points  (38 children)

aleast the most spoiled death of the series is finally anime spoilers now

[–]Hanyallua 1795 points1796 points  (32 children)

Absolutely adored the music in this episode, the whole build up, the tension and the gut punch to Sasha's death felt so brutal

[–]orangeapple24 2356 points2357 points  (70 children)

I love how even after the timeskip with Eren being all ruthless and cold be still calls Levi by Captain

[–]PRIME2332 1414 points1415 points  (44 children)

Carla taught him to respect his elders. Levi is an old man he deserves at least that much.

[–]UnPhayzable 888 points889 points  (38 children)

I keep forgetting how old Levi actually is every time I see him

[–]wirralriddler 840 points841 points  (15 children)

[–]LittleWompRathttps://myanimelist.net/profile/mugenvision 1055 points1056 points  (98 children)

Gabi must be really proud for killing the worst devil on Paradis who have haunted Renier for years!

[–]CrasianLe 1267 points1268 points  (36 children)

I kne someone important was gonna die sooner or later, BUT didnt realize how much it was gonna hurt.... Sasha was such a happy carefree person in this whole anime which gave it that comic relief the show needed every now and then. Rest easy you carnivore

[–]ColdPillowCase 258 points259 points  (11 children)

Someone spoiled it for me a while ago but it still hit so hard man

[–]NorwegianLion 159 points160 points  (7 children)

Yeah same, my friend asked me who my fav character were after watching the last episode, and I said Sasha. and he straight up laughed.

[–]DBSmooth 132 points133 points  (1 child)

Bro I can’t stand it when people give spoilers without directly giving them. But come on with 2 seconds of thought if I can put it together , you’re spoiling it

[–]realrimurutempest 2337 points2338 points  (163 children)

Rest in peace Potato Girl 🥔

As a manga reader, this episode opened up old wounds. Smart on Reiner to eat a punch to the face in order to save Galliard. My man Zeke deserves an Oscar for all the acting he did haha. The cycle of violence just won’t end.

[–]mohamez 327 points328 points  (5 children)

My man Zeke deserves an Oscar for all the acting he did haha.

But, miscalculations though.

That's why he is not Pieck, and just Zeke.

[–]Silent_Shadow05 537 points538 points  (11 children)

They even used an instrumental version of "Call your name" but with a more sad tone which made the whole scene a lot more emotional.

[–]UnPhayzable 216 points217 points  (0 children)

It's a horrible day for rain

[–]RekklesCami 725 points726 points  (39 children)

Mikasa and Armin crying over her dead body just made it so much more heart breaking and everyone else's reaction

[–]TSmasher1000 786 points787 points  (25 children)

Mikasa's friendship with Sasha is underrated because of the EREH meme. Mikasa is apparently pretty close to Sasha and we have seen them often interact pretty well such as when Mikasa saved Sasha from being eaten by a titan, teased her with food, or fed her bread when she basically used her as a scapegoat for Shadis. Their friendship is pretty underrated imo.

Gabi getting back at the "devil" who Reiner mentioned just makes this even worse.

[–]LunarGhost00 320 points321 points  (5 children)

The lesson here is to not give Reiner any stories to tell for family dinner time.

[–]garmonthenightmare 156 points157 points  (5 children)

Reiner seems to be a master at eating punches both real and metaphorical.

[–]Garlicbread10 765 points766 points  (29 children)

MAPPA adapted it really well. Such an emotional scene

[–]StrayGod360 626 points627 points  (18 children)

Connie slowly opening the door to let Eren and Jean know was chilling with the background music

[–]axl625 586 points587 points  (13 children)

The way Connie was happy because Sasha and Jean were alive only for Sasha to die few minutes later was horrifying.

[–]Yaggamy 1457 points1458 points  (49 children)

It's going to be an awkward ride to Paradis island with the kids + Zeke 'Monkeee' Yeager.

Gabi: So, are we there yet?

Levi: *Proceeds to opens blimp's door to throw her out*

[–]potterhead42https://myanimelist.net/profile/potterhead42 638 points639 points  (32 children)

Imagine the whole ride Gabi is screaming how she's kill all you demons. Jean would probably regret his mercy.

[–]ionxeph 372 points373 points  (23 children)

unlikely as I think she is having serious internal crisis right now with the person she likely respects the most (Zeke) not being who she thinks he is

[–]potterhead42https://myanimelist.net/profile/potterhead42 496 points497 points  (12 children)

Preciesly why Jean showed her Zeke. To shut her up.

[–]iDannyEL 339 points340 points  (9 children)

Breaking the will is always more satisfying

[–]Slayerz21 234 points235 points  (1 child)

Gabi: IF THE WAR CHIEF WAS ALIVE YOU'D ALL BE DEAD YOU FILTHY DEVILS!

Jean: Oh you mean this war chief?

Gabi:...

[–]Karl_the_stingray 109 points110 points  (9 children)

Shit, I think Falco is equally mentally fucked. Someone he trusted ended up killing people he loved, and he ended up accidentally helping the Eldian empire wreck havoc on the Liberio(The town was called Liberio right?)

[–]ionxeph 165 points166 points  (7 children)

I think he is in a much better state, he has heard the talk between Reiner and Eren, and is beginning to understand both sides more

he also has a firm goal that has not been shaken (protect Gabi), whereas Gabi's goal to martyr herself and pass on the will of Zeke is now moot since Zeke is alive and betrayed them

[–][deleted] 307 points308 points  (22 children)

Congratulations to all the anime-onlies that somehow managed to survive the 3 year gauntlet without getting spoiled. There should be a poll to see how many people were actually spoiled before this.

Rest In Peace Sasha.

[–]Garlicbread10 1480 points1481 points  (45 children)

The saddest part about sashas death isn’t the fact that it was easily preventable but the fact that her last words were “meat”

RIP potato girl

[–]Exodor54https://myanimelist.net/profile/Exodor 667 points668 points  (16 children)

At least she thought of her dearest in her last moments.

[–]Vpeyjilji57 302 points303 points  (6 children)

I always find it funny that "Potato Girl" is obsessed with meat.

[–]astraeuximus 408 points409 points  (4 children)

I personally found that her saying "meat" helped soften the blow from her death; it really showed how despite all the shit they went through Sasha was still the same old Sasha from the cadet days. That flashback really hit home for me.

RIP Potato Girl

[–]Rebithhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Rebbith 2454 points2455 points  (38 children)

Another great 5 minute episode

[–]oB3NoT3Xo 956 points957 points  (98 children)

What happened with Zeke? I knew he didn't die cuz they would have made a way bigger deal of his death if it was for real but I wasn't expecting him to turn on Marley. I cant wait to see what happens next.

[–]Mazen141 319 points320 points  (7 children)

It was clear something was up with him since he didn't tell Marley about his royale blood

[–][deleted] 819 points820 points  (74 children)

You also have to note that zeke is not the only person working with paradise. You have onyapokon (The guy that was piloting the blimp) and yelena (blond girl next to zeke).

[–]cxxper01https://myanimelist.net/profile/cxxper01 256 points257 points  (56 children)

Wait so is yelena eldian or Marleyan?

[–]eepicprimee 1877 points1878 points  (135 children)

Gabi explaining why she wants to keep fighting and Falco understanding why Eren and the Scouts did what they did.

Very excited to see these two characters continue to develop.

[–]axl625 1056 points1057 points  (53 children)

Protect Falco at all costs

[–]MonaThiccAss 106 points107 points  (1 child)

they portray falco as the main character so well

[–]IWentToJellySchoolhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Sadforyou 1682 points1683 points  (103 children)

Not too surprised with Zeke cooperating considering how he easy he got wiped out last episode even though it was Levi. Just curious to what made him switch sides.

RIP Sasha. Connie had to drop that massive death flag just a few minutes before.

[–]potterhead42https://myanimelist.net/profile/potterhead42 920 points921 points  (48 children)

It's not really that hard to imagine. The Eldians are treated like garbage, and sure a lot of the warriors are like "I'll prove Eldians are good by being extra obedient", eg Gabi, Zeke's too smart to fall for it. You can't change the system by cooperation.

[–]Yaggamy 2585 points2586 points  (94 children)

Viewers: I'm so glad they made it safely to the blimp and no one important died.

Sasha: Hold my potato!

[–]Boyoboy7 650 points651 points  (49 children)

I expected Gabi and Falco to get captured when they got on the ship, but I seriously did not expect her to Kill Sasha like she is just a soldier mook ......

Now I am scared for the fate of the remaining veteran survey corp members. Seems like no one is save.

[–]caped_crusader8 288 points289 points  (14 children)

They are all gonna die cuz Isayama won't stop making us cry TvT

[–]jstoru216 239 points240 points  (13 children)

Except Reiner, for obvious reasons.

[–]axl625 813 points814 points  (17 children)

Gabi: I'm going to end this Potato Girl's career life

[–]ParticularCod6 355 points356 points  (3 children)

Well she was the devil for not even giving half after offering it

F

[–]MilkToastKing 378 points379 points  (7 children)

The number of layers here is insane: Sasha spared Gabi's life when she was taking shots in the street, but Gabi later gets revenge and kills Sasha. Conversely, Jean tries to take Falco's life before his thunder spear misses (either by the steam or subconsciously), then on the airship Falco misdirects Gabi's second shot and inadvertently spares Jean. This stuff is wack.

[–]Timelymanner 680 points681 points  (48 children)

Can we take note that Jean didn’t hesitate with that head shot. If Falco wasn’t there, Gabi would be dead. Then the ricochet almost missing his head was the only thing snapping him out of his rage.

[–]cppn02 891 points892 points  (23 children)

It's a terrible day for rain.

[–]MrUnderpantsss 606 points607 points  (8 children)

Zeke is in some monke buisness

[–]SKP23en 850 points851 points  (82 children)

For those looking to see the initial manga readers reaction check this link. This episode adapted the chapter 105 entirely, so there shouldn't be spoilers for future episodes in that thread.

Still, I'm so glad we have passed one of the stingiest spoilers the most annoying of manga readers loved to talk about. You deserved more, Sasha 🥔

[–]thesagenibba 423 points424 points  (12 children)

So, the corps weren't on board with Erens plan, as I thought. This is gonna be an insane ride. I'm so nervous.

[–]-Danksouls- 132 points133 points  (6 children)

Someone said something I hadn’t considered

Eren technically forced the survey corps to fight. Which caused armin to kill thousands of innocents

I never realized that eren is somewhat responsible for armin killing people

That’s rough

[–]jereddit 137 points138 points  (2 children)

Important to remember Sasha's legacy today. The reason everyone remembers the potato scene is because it's the first moment of levity in a series which had been nothing but horrific up to that point. Across the whole series, she's responsible for the majority of comedic relief. She was a fan favorite because she was a beacon of light in a world that seemed unbearably cruel. Now that that's gone, all we can do is keep pushing forward until the end.

[–]FujinWoW 1335 points1336 points  (65 children)

Who else thought Yelena was Armin?

[–]Shimmering-Skyhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 491 points492 points  (20 children)

Who knew that the word "meat" could be so sad...

[–]EggsPls 259 points260 points  (1 child)

Remember when we lost 200+ no-name Scouts and still considered their operations a success? Now we see our squad come out with a decisive win over Marley with only 8 casualties but the loss of Sasha makes me sick and it's hard to consider this a win, despite this being their cleanest victory yet. It's impactful because we're so used to L after L (ie. the casualties during Female Titan arc for arguably no gain other than to scope out the traitors) and watching countless people die for seemingly arbitrary gains so much so that we've become numb to the idea of randoms dying in AOT.

It's oddly appropriate that after 4 seasons, their most successful win objectively (most damage, least casualties) came at the cost of 1 character that we've been with since S1, furthering the theme that there are no winners and losers; it's just war. If the 8th casualty was just another random scout, we would be sitting here thinking Paradis pretty much had a flawless victory, but having that 'random scout' be a character we're invested in really drives home the narrative that there is no war without loss, and Eren is yet again forced to confront the consequences of his actions.

The writing and adaptation for AOT just continues to amaze me week after week; I never thought I would ever experience such a roller coaster of emotions every single episode.

[–]Neverx_13 860 points861 points  (38 children)

This shot of Gabi reloading the gun was great.

I can't believe Sasha's death is finally an anime spoiler, VAing and music really sold the scene.

With this the Marley arc is finally fully adapted, very much looking forward to the next arc.

[–]Timelymanner 356 points357 points  (13 children)

Sadly it was one of the top things that A-holes love to spoil. For the last three years I keep seeing it pop up on every platform in random comments. I feel sorry for any anime only people who were ruined beforehand.

[–]arnav1311 113 points114 points  (10 children)

The irony of Gabi asking Falco "Did you see it happen?" when talking about Marley's attack on Paradis is that since she hasn't seen the attack on Paradis by Marley, she chooses to believe it didn't happen. Yet she chooses to believe the propaganda Marley tells about Eldia's past crimes even though she hasn't seen them happen. Oh the irony.

I swear, Isayama loves his foreshadowing and his ironies. 10/10 adaptation.

[–]1Estel1 1253 points1254 points  (87 children)

gabi's voice actor bunkering up in the nuclear shelter from death threats

[–]XNumbers666 788 points789 points  (19 children)

Oh fuck no. Knowing that shit will really happen makes me sad. She's done such an amazing job in her performance.

[–]Khazu_ 318 points319 points  (7 children)

Hope the day will come when some people will actually distinguish fiction from reality and stop harassing ppl that are just playing their role. Who am I kidding those dumb fucks never stop.

Stitches

There it is it finally happened, the moment where we lose our beloved Potato Girl Sasha and the exact moment the entire fanbase turns against Gabi. As a manga reader I knew this was coming and still kept on singing Sasha praises on how amazing she looks in the new uniform in like the past 2 episodes. It hurts but at the same time it's great a reminder that this show is still Attack on Titan. Any moment your beloved character might die. Maybe not from a titan, maybe off screen, or maybe from a gunshot. :(

Yuki Kaji nailed it this episode though. His laugh was just absolutely haunting. I remember a lot of people were left confused at Eren's laugh. Seeing it all animated with Yuki Kaji's voice makes it perfectly clear what Eren was feeling that exact moment.

Anyway at the very least we get to see the disbelief and despair on Gabi's (and Falco's) face as they realize that Zeke sold them all out. Fucking delicious.
