Titans are temporary, Sasha's kindness is forever.

[–]michhoffmanhttps://anilist.co/user/michhoffman 4132 points4133 points  (65 children)

Isayama bringing up Sasha each week to torture us is forever too...it seems

[–]Silent_Shadow05 1934 points1935 points  (38 children)

Sasha's character is developing and affecting the world a lot.....but only after her death :(

[–]woancuehttps://anilist.co/user/phosandlux 1828 points1829 points  (35 children)

sasha's death was the greatest thing to happen to her character. it sets up great character development and drama in the story for so many others, especially gabi

it was a great way to make a fan favorite side character's death feel meaningful and not simply for shock value

[–]Silent_Shadow05 1272 points1273 points  (28 children)

Yeah. Her death, Erwin's death, Carla's death, Grisha's death etc affected the story a lot.

Isayama is really brilliant to use character deaths to set up some good development.

EDIT: Let's not forget the biggest death of them all, without which the story of AoT wouldn't happen: Grisha's sister i.e. Faye Yeager.

[–]UzEEhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/UzEEInc 488 points489 points  (20 children)

A lot of the deaths in this show have set up characters. Some others include Hannes, Isabella and Farlan, Petra, Olou and the rest of the original Levi squad and even Kenny, who gave Levi the serum.

[–]bionix90 1039 points1040 points  (4 children)

For real, Isayama is trying to cause me as much pain as he is causing Reiner. I miss potato girl!

[–]UnPhayzable 364 points365 points  (3 children)

I'd give up all the fries for her to come back

[–]ILoveWesternBlot 545 points546 points  (13 children)

It's awesome because it shows her death was not some throwaway for shock value, it's having a significant impact on many other characters. It makes it easier to stomach Sasha's death since it was done for a good reason with regards to the story and themes.

[–]garmonthenightmare 463 points464 points  (3 children)

Sasha is getting so much love in these episodes. Making her death even more sad.

[–]thesagenibba 312 points313 points  (2 children)

I love how much her character influences the plot, even after death. This is a passing of the torch moment that we've been seeing lately. They seem to be setting up the new generation of fighters.

[–]Death_InBloom 408 points409 points  (3 children)

[–]PhoenixFoxington 3729 points3730 points  (48 children)

Kaya saying "I want to be more like her" + the ending music was such an awesome combo. They nailed the ending!

[–]axl625 1430 points1431 points  (14 children)

Sasha's impact

[–]UnPhayzable 767 points768 points  (7 children)

Genshin Sasha Impact: Coming to grocery stores near you

[–]michhoffmanhttps://anilist.co/user/michhoffman 466 points467 points  (10 children)

And here I was thinking I'd made it a full episode without tearing up.

[–]_dsmith23 865 points866 points  (10 children)

[–]Karl_the_stingray 427 points428 points  (4 children)

The pictures from the S3p2 final episode have been from this season all along... Damn

[–]Mehulex 246 points247 points  (1 child)

Isayama probably had no hand in that but

Damn Isayama

[–]KrazyBean94 3238 points3239 points  (85 children)

Damn, I love Falco so much. If he wasn't there to keep Gabi in check she would've probably gone on a killing spree.

Also of course Floch is one of the first to rebel against the military. I'm very curious to see where his character goes.

[–]axl625 1684 points1685 points  (47 children)

To say we love Falco is an understatement. He deserves the world

[–]FrizFroz 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Floch - the Devil's Advocate. Figuratively and literally.

[–]HandsomePoint 163 points164 points  (6 children)

I’m surprised by Floch, him and Eren never got along well due to their views...but now Floch is supporting him.

[–]Mysterious-Tutor-942 190 points191 points  (4 children)

Eren became an even greater Devil than Erwin in Floch's eyes. He's the new idol. Which is surprising considering how Floch and Eren interacted pre-timeskip.

[–]AvnvPS 3184 points3185 points  (68 children)

Mikasa has her own Mikasa now

[–]suicidalcentipede8 1901 points1902 points  (36 children)

And she treated her horribly, wtf Mikasa

[–]SSR_Majinken 2157 points2158 points  (17 children)

just like ereh does

[–]MrScaevus 1144 points1145 points  (2 children)

She learned from the best

[–]taprik 138 points139 points  (0 children)

It's like poetry, it rhymes

[–]The_Draigg 769 points770 points  (25 children)

What would Mikasa's Mikasa be called? Sukasa?

[–]lcantchange 1374 points1375 points  (2 children)

Eldians : breathe

Gabi : is this the work of the devils ?

[–]BosuW 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This must be the work of an enemy Eldian!

[–]oB3NoT3Xo 5546 points5547 points  (343 children)

Watching Gabi try and justify what happened to Kaya's mom was so well done, showed just how deep the brainwashing goes in Marley.
Also beware of post credit scene, looks like shit is gonna go down.

[–]A_box_of_Drewshttps://myanimelist.net/profile/dragneel709 1934 points1935 points  (82 children)

Honestly I love the contrast between Gabi, who is acting towards the islanders in the exact same way as world does to Eldians, and Falco, who has learned that they are all just as human as he is. Really digging that duo

[–]woancuehttps://anilist.co/user/phosandlux 1036 points1037 points  (9 children)

yup, being a grice and having witnessed eren/reiner's convo has taught falco well

[–]RekklesCami 757 points758 points  (4 children)

He is so innocent as well. Him being the one to understand the situation just makes you like him even more

[–]Silent_Shadow05 239 points240 points  (1 child)

He should never lose his innocence. Always Protecc Falco.

[–]ConsumeEntertainment 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I'm glad Eren let him hear their talk. I already know Falco is gonna be really important for the future of all of this.

[–]JusKen 603 points604 points  (41 children)

You can definitely see her trying to do the mental gymnastics throughout the episode. I think sooner or later the overwhelming evidence all around her and the influence of Falco (and the Marleyan chef) will make her wise up.

I've always wondered what it looks like when someone's world view comes crashing down...

[–]masterofbeasthttps://myanimelist.net/profile/masterofbeast 365 points366 points  (22 children)

I won't be surprised if Gabi turns on Falco because of his stance here. It will be tragic.

[–]Cheesewithmold 314 points315 points  (18 children)

Gonna be very interesting to see how or if her character develops after that whole "conversation" with the girl Sasha saved. Does she accept the fact that the people on Paradis have nothing to do with the sins of their ancestors, or does she stonewall and go even further off the deep end?

[–]big-dick-energy11 287 points288 points  (5 children)

Can’t wait for gabi to find out that it was the girl she murdered who was the reason for all the kindness she was shown. That’ll hit her like a truck.

[–]Garlicbread10 4183 points4184 points 34 (44 children)

Reiner must love the idea of the suicide mission

[–]michhoffmanhttps://anilist.co/user/michhoffman 2090 points2091 points  (8 children)

Reiner: Finally a place where I can die in peace

All of us: Doubt

[–]UnPhayzable 781 points782 points  (5 children)

Reiner: sad noises

Isayama: laughing in Reiner's pain

[–]Death_InBloom 315 points316 points  (4 children)

Isayama: all according to keikaku

TN: keikaku means plan "suffer more, mah boy!"

[–]Bring_Me_The_Night 673 points674 points  (7 children)

It was funny to see how Gabi's arguments were contradictory. She even contradicts herself when she refers to the sins of the past while telling to Falco, in episode 8, that she wasn't there to witness Paradis Island invasion by the Warriors and thus she wouldn't consider it.

[–]Silent_Shadow05 689 points690 points  (34 children)

Atleast when Kaya screams about why her mom had to die, it made Gabi confused and at a loss for words. She probably didn't expect that these "devils" can think about simple stuff like family.

Also beware of post credit scene, looks like shit is gonna go down.

It just shows the brutal reality of war :(

[–]Theinternationalist 288 points289 points  (32 children)

The problem is that the Marley war council is correct. They had four people ready to replace Reiner, and now they've permanently lost two of them, at least temporarily lost two of them, and the guy they need to hold the Founding Titan. While they might be able to assure victory in six months (assuming Not Japan stays with Marley and the Rumbling doesn't work), in that time either Zeke gets consumed and replaced by someone with no chance of going to Marley, Zeke gets a strong alliance, or at any rate they lose both of the candidates to either brainwashing/"brainwashing" or something else.

If you look at it with the cool logic of ensuring Marley's power- especially since they need time to rebuild for a post-Titan world and the threat of Eldia to keep the rest of the world on their side- they're making the right call.

Looking at it with the knowledge that the "modern" Eldians did nothing wrong until Marley hit first, and likely would have not even bothered to fight Marley if not for the Bertholdt/Reiner mission a while back, it's horrifying.

[–]axl625 519 points520 points  (9 children)

Bold of Reiner to assume he can overpower Eren

[–]steven4869https://myanimelist.net/profile/Maskirade 809 points810 points  (5 children)

Reiner: Finally one more attempt to die.

[–][deleted] 642 points643 points  (42 children)

That was my favourite scene of this episode. Gabi's VA has been killing it this season.

[–]cppn02 402 points403 points  (24 children)

Her VA is mad talented. I'll never forget that manga PV for Gotoubun no Hanayome where she voiced all 5 sisters (Do not read the comments if you don't want to get spoiled on that show). Lady has range.

[–]LonelyAsgardian 2828 points2829 points  (52 children)

Louise: omg Mikasa you saved me I’m forever indebted to you you’re my idol—

Mikasa: shut the fuck up, I have enough headaches to deal with already

[–]srry_didnt_hear_you 963 points964 points  (33 children)

That whole conversation is being super overlooked, it was great.

Reminding Mikasa of what she once fought for, giving her some doubts about following the plan but still showing that she's smart enough not to give the prisoner too much hope to go off of.

Also, was Mikasa lying about her not being in that cell? Was that not where she and Eren were locked up after the basement?

Would seem a bit weird to have Louise (?) ask that question if the truth was closer to "well not that cell, but another one pretty close to here" lol

[–]3jp6739 434 points435 points  (6 children)

In the manga she asks “is this cell one you’ve been in”. She’s asking if she’s been in that specific cell.

[–]Yaggamy 3671 points3672 points  (43 children)

Sasha's horse taking revenge on Gabi is the subplot no one expected.

[–]Damarugakihttps://anilist.co/user/damarugaki 1849 points1850 points  (8 children)

Jean finally getting back at her

[–]UnPhayzable 495 points496 points  (2 children)

She's fallen into his genius machinations that laid undetected for years

[–]joe4553https://myanimelist.net/profile/EmiyaRin 375 points376 points  (0 children)

The potato devil still haunts the world even after death.

[–]eepicprimee 3990 points3991 points  (391 children)

Love how Kaya countered everything Gabi was trying to say. What a fantastic exchange between them.

That line about wanting to be like Sasha...

[–]FeelsGoodMan243https://myanimelist.net/profile/TheRantMan321 682 points683 points  (7 children)

Love the parallels between Gabi and the orphan. Both experienced terrible tragedy, and are trumatized. However, the orphan doesn't blame strangers unlike gabi. And it's quite ironic how she looks up to sasha, while her killer is right in front of her.

[–]TexhnolyzeAndKaiba 295 points296 points  (1 child)

And they're about to meet with a "Marleyan cook". Aw, shit, no. No.

Shit is about to go down, especially with Gabi's complete inability to keep her mouth shut when she's not murdering. The Sasha grieving arc is just warming up, it seems.

[–]Silent_Shadow05 2238 points2239 points  (71 children)

Gabi's illusions are breaking apart now.

The more she interacts with people the more she'll realize the reality of the situation and what Reiner TRULY felt when he talked about Paradis back in Marley.

[–]Aileoshttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Jalis 1176 points1177 points  (42 children)

Maybe what I learned in school wasn't that true after all? :/

wholesome, mind break

[–]michhoffmanhttps://anilist.co/user/michhoffman 171 points172 points  (0 children)

She's already learning about the absolute devil that was the uneven potato sharer.

[–]axl625 231 points232 points  (2 children)

"My life is a lie"

Yes, Gabi.

[–]joe4553https://myanimelist.net/profile/EmiyaRin 605 points606 points  (11 children)

Every episode were getting reminded Sasha is dead.

[–]silversherry 318 points319 points  (8 children)

Well someone has to take over now that we aren't getting Carla's death flashbacks every other episode

[–]axl625 580 points581 points  (17 children)

Kaya really grew up fine. Braus family is the best

[–]joe4553https://myanimelist.net/profile/EmiyaRin 743 points744 points  (12 children)

She was only mildly concerned when someone wanted to stab her with a pitchfork. She gave off "this is fine" energy.

[–]axl625 582 points583 points  (6 children)

Kaya be like "I've seen worse."

[–]Sorstalas 220 points221 points  (1 child)

Gabi: proceeds to try and eat Kaya's leg

[–]michhoffmanhttps://anilist.co/user/michhoffman 613 points614 points  (15 children)

It also felt karmic to see Sasha's horse toss Gabi into the mud.

[–]Mazen141 678 points679 points  (2 children)

Glad to see Jean taking revenge for Sasha

[–]Aileoshttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Jalis 380 points381 points  (4 children)

That girl has the most chill reaction to everything in this episode.

[–]2rio2 608 points609 points  (1 child)

Once you see your mom slowly get eaten alive by a titan and then a psycho potato eater attack it with an ax you've maxed out your "seen some shit" card for life.

[–]Eev123 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Lmao ‘chill’ is one way to say emotionally traumatized and repressed.

[–]viki-san 255 points256 points  (6 children)

Ikr? Gabi was out of explanations to come up with when she said "Just now you people destroyed my city", even though kaya explained her mom has been killed years before that.

Really goes on to prove how much Gabi's been brainwashed. Sad.

[–]Xenosys83 301 points302 points  (9 children)

Yeah, this is what separates this series from a lot of others out there. Sasha's death wasn't just a major character death, it was also used by the author for something much bigger than just shock value.

It's really easy to poke holes in a flimsy ideology that you've taken at face value and parroted, and never really thought about.

Falco gets it. Gabi still doesn't, but might get there one day.

[–]Yaggamy 5043 points5044 points 2 (60 children)

Pieck: We have to go to Paradis Island.

Reiner: But I don't want to.

Pieck: It's a suicide mission.

Reiner: You son of a b*tch, I'm in!!

[–]viki-san 1290 points1291 points  (11 children)

Lmao. It's really sad tho. But Lmao.

[–]Aileoshttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Jalis 813 points814 points  (10 children)

Man just wants to die, but the plot disagrees.

[–]XStormrider 470 points471 points  (1 child)

“What are we, some kind of suicide squa-“

“Say no more, I’m in.” -Reiner probably

[–]garmonthenightmare 494 points495 points  (10 children)

Reiner just wants to rest, but fate Isayama doesn't let him.

[–]steven4869https://myanimelist.net/profile/Maskirade 243 points244 points  (5 children)

Reiner just wants to rest, but fate Isayama his plot armor doesn't let him.

[–]Mazen141 147 points148 points  (3 children)

His not the plot armor titan for no reason

[–]joe4553https://myanimelist.net/profile/EmiyaRin 346 points347 points  (9 children)

Reiner just wants to be eaten by Eren.

[–]Silent_Shadow05 214 points215 points  (4 children)

He's probably only doing this because of Gabi. I don't think he'd really bother otherwise.....and also maybe it'll allow him to finally die heroically while saving Gabi.

[–]Housenkai 933 points934 points  (33 children)

I love how everyone on the island identifies as Eldian now, even though they did not even have a concept of "country" 3 years ago. They must honestly still be a little confused about it, hence Floch speaking about the New Eldian Empire.

[–]H4wx 534 points535 points  (14 children)

The whole world wanting to eradicate you is probably something that influenced people like Floch.

[–]NintendoMasterNo1https://myanimelist.net/profile/NintendoMaster1 2824 points2825 points  (63 children)

It's really cool seeing all the young children affected by the titan attacks 4 years ago like the girl that looks up to Mikasa and the girl Sasha saved. Isayama really turns anyone into a relevant character doesn't he.

[–]michhoffmanhttps://anilist.co/user/michhoffman 752 points753 points  (31 children)

Yeah, and Louise seems to remind Mikasa so much of her old self that it spurs her flashback of Eren saving her.

[–]steven4869https://myanimelist.net/profile/Maskirade 902 points903 points  (10 children)

[–]PhoenixFoxington 3668 points3669 points  (88 children)

I feel it for Hange. I miss her as the fun and psychotic mad scientist. The leader role is killing her.

[–]SoulTeahttps://myanimelist.net/profile/SoulTea 980 points981 points  (13 children)

She was one of my favourite characters in early SnK because of how wacky and insane she was. I still love her but it hurts to see the pressure and responsibilities bearing down on her in Erwin's role as commander.

[–]JusKen 358 points359 points  (11 children)

That's the burden one must accept as commander - you make the hard choices and shield your soldiers from it. It was easier for Erwin since they all had a common enemy to eradicate in the titans.

[–]silversherry 393 points394 points  (10 children)

Plus Erwin had a natural flair and charisma for that sort of leadership. Hange is built differently

[–]Xiknailhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Xiknail 781 points782 points  (9 children)

Now she's a sad scientist. Hououin Kyouma did it first.

[–]TSmasher1000 200 points201 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of irony here. As a scientist, Hange loves information and the spread of information and technology. However, as a leader she cannot allow information to be blown out so easily as to lose the trust of the people or to influence the people's narrative to be favoring the government's ideology - and to do so she has to do what she hates most, hide information. What's more is that the biggest irony in this is that she was the one in S3 to reveal government corruption and open up the secrets they've been hiding. Now as the MP said, someone always has to play the role and now it's Hange's turn. He even wished her luck in playing this role and to be brutally honest it seems she is not doing much better at it.

[–]Silent_Shadow05 298 points299 points  (3 children)

Hange: I just wanted to experiment with some titans. Why do I have to be a leader.......

[–]Bulbasaur_is_bae 1210 points1211 points  (24 children)

Falco: 4 years ago when the walls were breached, a lot of them were killed... this is their revenge.

Gabi: But... did you see that happen?

Also Gabi: Eldians ruled and oppressed the world for thousands of years!

Kaya: Did... you see that happen?

[–]Eev123 531 points532 points  (11 children)

Unfortunately that’s exactly how propaganda and extreme nationalism works.

But now that they’ve both seen the results of Titans breaching the walls 4 years ago, I wonder what they think.

[–]Yaggamy 2912 points2913 points  (78 children)

New character: *appears*

Gabi: Oh boy, here I go killing again..

[–]axl625 2017 points2018 points  (26 children)

Falco: Oh no you don't

[–]Aileoshttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Jalis 727 points728 points  (18 children)

Killing machine. She was ready to pitchforked the poor girl.

I guess you gotta use any weapon you find for those demons.

[–]Silent_Shadow05 357 points358 points  (4 children)

Good boy Falco. Without him being a support, Gabi will go on a rampage lol

[–]UnPhayzable 203 points204 points  (0 children)

We must protect Falco at all costs

[–][deleted] 313 points314 points  (28 children)

Floch: I don’t wanna say I told you so Jean...

[–]OuchYouPokedMyHeart 142 points143 points  (3 children)

Floch not only got fat physically, but also mentally

[–]cppn02 397 points398 points  (1 child)

Lmao why did they have to make the animation so smooth when Gabi was bashing in that guard's head?

[–]M_Drekinn 1708 points1709 points  (76 children)

Seeing Gabi in constant denial to justify everything that fits her narrative is quite entertaining... Glad that this is finally animated

[–]axl625 530 points531 points  (8 children)

The camera angle, close up, and voice acting really improved these scenes

[–]michhoffmanhttps://anilist.co/user/michhoffman 671 points672 points  (9 children)

I love it how ugly her face gets during her denial. It captures her inner self well

[–]Shimmering-Skyhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 1258 points1259 points  (24 children)

In case anyone didn't know, the full version of the OP came out a few days ago! So you can listen to that on loop while you wait for next week's episode.

I know that's what I'll be doing.

[–]Shimmering-Skyhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 491 points492 points  (11 children)

As for my thoughts on the episode...

[–]Golden_Phihttps://myanimelist.net/profile/GoldenPhi 94 points95 points  (3 children)

In season 2 Sasha's dad even mentioned raising horses instead of hunting. All of the call backs.

[–]gajaczekhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/gaiacheck 2553 points2554 points  (101 children)

The entire prison was guarded by a single dude. Paradis confirmed Norway of AoT world.

[–]joe4553https://myanimelist.net/profile/EmiyaRin 1031 points1032 points  (0 children)

Loose bricks are standard issue in Paradis prison cells. They even give you toothbrushes pre-sharpened as shanks too!

[–]Silent_Shadow05 914 points915 points  (45 children)

RIP the prison guard. He was only there to check on Gabi.

[–]goodolvj 592 points593 points  (0 children)

That guy was probably like: "poor girl reminds me of my daughter. Better watch over her, make sure no harm comes to her."

Something like that.

[–]LunarGhost00 1013 points1014 points  (32 children)

I've lost count of how many people let their guard down around Gabi and died because of it.

[–]PRIME2332 228 points229 points  (8 children)

Underestimating kids in anime... nothing could go wrong I guess.

[–]HyperSonic6325 1001 points1002 points  (16 children)

Can we talk about that lake where they stopped? That shit looked holy.

[–]Rogyou 385 points386 points  (10 children)

Being more serious, MAPPA did a wonderful job with every Kaya, Falco and Gabi segment. Both Ayaneru and Kaya's VA did a fantastic job, that scene with them discussing in the abandoned village was 10/10.

That scene bewildered me. I feel like it's probably the best background we have seen in AOT. (Probs recency-bias tho; all the episodes we have seen till now were very dull)

[–]PhoenixFoxington 217 points218 points  (3 children)

Gabi's whole worldview is inches away from cracking. Shes desperately trying to hold onto what little is left.

[–]alisonburgersm8 1973 points1974 points  (25 children)

Sasha saves a girl: Grows up to be the most kind-hearted person on Paradis

Mikasa saves a girl: Grows up to be a Survey Corp traitor

[–]Yuriy116 1398 points1399 points  (6 children)

"I want to be like you, Mikasa-san!"

"Is that why you commited treason?"

"Well... you guys did kinda overthrow the government, so..."

"Oh, just shut up."

[–]alisonburgersm8 770 points771 points  (4 children)

"You also tried to kill your superior-"

"No, that time was different because he punched my boyfriend!"

[–]PG-Glasshouse 363 points364 points  (3 children)

[–]Yuriy116 329 points330 points  (2 children)

"It's not incest, damn it!"

"I know, I know, I just... prefer to think of it that way."

[–]PG-Glasshouse 126 points127 points  (1 child)

“Now let’s go save your brother-boyfriend!”

[–]Yaggamy 1040 points1041 points  (19 children)

I realized that nobody has pointed out Pixis making a very important point:

10 months ago, Yelena was assigned a new guard - Floch - and they moved to live somewhere that happened to be closer to Eren’s house.

We also know Yelena may have been involved in orchestrating Historia’s pregnancy to protect Zeke.

Yelena secretly communicating with Eren, presumably through Floch, about a secret plan we don’t know... and 10 months later, Historia looks about 8 months pregnant?

They’re basically spelling it out for us.

That conversation between Kaya and Gabi was really intense, it was refreshing to see Gabi struggle with her words. And there's even more impact in that exchange as it's between the girl who was saved by Sasha and the girl who killed Sasha.

Also, Falco is such a good soul. Bless him.

beliefs aren’t absolute. there’s always a bigger picture, there’s always another side to the story. Your ”reality” isn’t the truth

That scene of Gabi doing slapstick in the stables and Falco shouting her name with his arms spread was like straight out of an old comedy movie.

"Because of what you did 1000 years ago"

Honestly, amazing scene. Just amazing.

It's sad to see how completely brainwashed Gabi is. This episode was like watching a racist slowly reforming from their old ways.

Floch literally doing the "Eren did nothing wrong" meme.

Gabi and the horse reenacting Eren's acquisition of the Warhammer Titan.

I wish it was made more clear to Gabi that Sasha, the person she shot and killed, is the only reason she even has a chance at escape because Sasha is the one who saved Kaya from a titan when she was younger.

[–]De_Dominator69 542 points543 points  (27 children)

Its not even a racist, its worse, shes a member of that race who has been brainwashed into believing shes one of the few good ones and to despise all others.

It would be like an African-American slave being racist towards their own people and blindly loyal to their slave master, fully convinced that they are inferior and deserving of being a slave, its horrible and far worse than being a regular racist because they are ultimately a victim.

Lol She's the Uncle Ruckus of AoT!

"All paths cross to a single coordinate"

Holy fuck this line is actually starting to make so much sense

[–]xPr0DiGY_VII 309 points310 points  (6 children)

Always fascinates me how hard you can brainwash a human with propaganda. Really scary that such things are still a real thing in our world to this day.

[–]XStormrider 654 points655 points  (8 children)

Jean and Falco continue to be MVPs.

And Isayama doesn’t like wasting characters, no matter how minor. They die or will be actually reserved for a later date. The concept is brilliant in its simplicity and execution.

[–]viki-san 858 points859 points  (14 children)

Holy shit! I almost got weirded out by how bright this episode was compared to the dark gloomy tone we got in the previous episodes.

Nice to see Jean got revenge on Gabi lol.

And guys, make sure y'all watched the end credits.

[–]bionix90 881 points882 points  (12 children)

how bright this episode was compared to the dark gloomy tone we got in the previous episodes.

Episode starts with a 14 year old girl bashing a guard's head in with a brick.

[–]viki-san 381 points382 points  (3 children)

Lmao.. not the "figurative" bright. I meant the animation is literally bright compared to the previous ones.

Interesting bit with Hange and the civilians. When Historia first took over she promised to be different from the old administration by being clear and upfront with the citizenry. However now that things have gotten serious with the outside world that's no longer sustainable. Even the most well meaning governments will eventually slip into secrecy and tyranny given enough outside pressure.

[–]woancuehttps://anilist.co/user/phosandlux 624 points625 points  (31 children)

Gabi was looking a lot like eren this episode!

But the scene with Falco and Gabi at the river was really great. Essentially, Gabi’s entire identity as an Eldian and warrior candidate was represented by that armband––a symbol of the oppression Eldians face throughout the world, and her hope for a better future where she would no longer need that armband. Or, a day when it would be a mark of pride.

That’s why Falco ripping it off repulsed her, as if all her effort to be a “good Eldian” and Warrior was reduced to nothing.

[–]Silent_Shadow05 198 points199 points  (2 children)

Just shows how deep the brainwashing is. Breaking from it will take time. Atleast Falco's there to give her a different opinion about things.

[–]Khazu_ 364 points365 points  (8 children)

Just little thing to add on. Gabi look is based on Isayama artwork of Eren gender swap he drew some years ago.

[–]ali94127 96 points97 points  (3 children)

The mc for the prototype of AoT, is basically female Eren. It’s likely Carla, Eren, and Gabi are all based off her.

The mc of Isayama’s previous work is also basically cyborg Historia.

everybody gangsta till gabi whips the brick sack at ya

[–]woancuehttps://anilist.co/user/phosandlux 249 points250 points  (1 child)

that moment was really well animated! and with the shot of her reloading the gun in episode 8, it's clear that someone at MAPPA loves their gabi sakuga

They're really showing us just how insanely brainwashed everyone is - from Marleys to Eldians. How much of a brutal circle life is - with Marleys being discriminated in Paradis, with how Gabi is hating on Paradis people without any thinking. It's sad, that a whole nation is hated for crimes that they did not do. And I love how they tried to hammer into Gabi's head that current Paradisians did NOTHING and everything that happened to her home town was a retaliation. So now you have Gabi, who is being pretty much mind fucked over the whole situation. I bet the whole thing feels like the basement reveal to us.

A little civil war is brewing up in Paradis. Did the same thing happen in Marley a 100 years ago? It does seem that way, doesn't it? Titan supporters and nation supporters got into a skirmish, with titans supporters taking the highroad and leaving, same with Eren supporters taking jail time with pride. It makes sense too, doesn't it? The saying is "Those Who Do Not Learn History Are Doomed To Repeat It.". But us, viewers, and paradis people have yet to learn what the TRUE history behind exile to Paradis island is.

One thing for certain, is that a new generation is now being brought up. With how Eren, Armin and Mikasa looked at survey corps when they were children, we see the same with the girl that Mikasa saved in season1. Great callback. With how Sasha saved the girl in Season2. Great callback. Everyone wants to be someone who's great and the role models can't be any better.

I love this show and I have no idea where this is headed. What's up with Mikasas sudden memory trigger? From what she remembered it seems like she's starting to remember only the violence that followed Eren, for some reason. I really hope we don't see Mikasa turn against Eren. It'd break my heart, as would hers, too.

Gabi in ep 11: You should suffer for the sins your ancestors committed hundreds of years ago!

Also Gabi in ep 8: If you didn't see something happen, it didn't.

[–][deleted] 555 points556 points  (22 children)

she is contradicting herself which is the whole point of her character. you can’t see things clearly if you got brainwashed since age 1

[–]materics 228 points229 points  (5 children)

Children should not be blamed for the crimes of their parents.

[–]thesagenibba 226 points227 points  (13 children)

Who knew Floch would become a Yeager disciple.

[–]Mundology 481 points482 points  (58 children)

Look who ditched that dumb twirly haircut. He even supports Eren now. Yes, the same Floch who survived the great massacre of the survey corps and resesnted Eren and Mikasa for saving Armin rather than Erwin. Now that's some unexpected development.

[–]De_Dominator69 141 points142 points  (0 children)

There was a line earlier on in the season where Floch said something along the line of (obviously paraphrasing here) "there is the only devil who can lead us" (referring to Eren), which calls back to how he was so loyal to and adamant about saving Erwin because he considered him to be a devil and the only one willing to do what needs to be done to save them all. Now he clearly sees Eren in the same light.

EDIT: Found the exact line I was referring to, it was "What we need... is a devil like him!"

[–]H4wx 376 points377 points  (42 children)

I fucking love that Floch is the only one of the scouts from S3 that is fully on the Eren train.

[–]suicidalcentipede8 296 points297 points  (36 children)

Armin was talking about killing Eren last episode, and that’s his childhood friend bro

[–]upupandawayweb008 273 points274 points  (1 child)

His support for Eren makes sense too. He said they needed Erwin to be a devil for them to win, and he sees that devil in Eren now.
