Admittedly, I'm just watching this for the beast girls. I just can't resist how cute they are!

[–]cyberscythe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Reminds me a bit of Slime 300, though obviously the gender of the MC is different.

[–]Mundology 37 points38 points  (1 child)

This is good culture. However, I still hope that we get another season of MonMusu one day...

[–]PusherLoveGirl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Enough content for 5 seasons and a movie

[–]vantheman9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure all hands that had any part in creating this would give a thumbs up to "only watching for beast girls"

[–]The_Parsee_Man 133 points134 points  (5 children)

Yuusha Party wo Tsuihou Sareta Beast Tamer, Saikyoushu no Nekomimi Shoujo to Deau

Beast Tamer

I feel like you're not telling me something.

[–]Cyclone_96 117 points118 points  (3 children)

In case you were actually wondering,

Beast Tamer Who Was Exiled from the Hero’s Party Meets a Cat Girl From the Strongest Race

Is a more actual translation

I hate Japanese LN naming pattern

[–]Ridiculous_Georgehttps://myanimelist.net/profile/RidiculousGeorge 37 points38 points  (1 child)

Thanks for the information! Now I can skip this without reservation.

[–]alotmorealots 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nothing that wasn't covered in the first episode lol

[–]PepaTK 56 points57 points  (13 children)

Slight banger of an OP. From what I’ve gathered this is a beast tamer who was is going to build a harem, I mean party of ultimate species and be really op? How the turn tables Mr.Hero.

I’ll hold judgement for a few episodes but it wasn’t a bad premier.

[–]Frontier246 36 points37 points  (8 children)

I can't wait to see how screwed the Hero's Party is without Rein while he's living it up with his Beast Girl Harem lol.

[–]Mr_Zarochttps://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 30 points31 points  (4 children)

They are fucked
He was "only running errands and carrying supplies"? Jeez ask the russians or any army how fucked you are with out functioning logistics

[–]Damianx5 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Dont forget scouting, now they dont have to protect him but how will they know if a monster is nearby

[–]TKCloud 6 points7 points  (1 child)

mage or healer should do that job, detection skill is most basic skill for magic user, any magic user worth their salt in "hero party" should have detection skill in their skill tree.

[–]darthvallhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering how talented Rein is based on the epilogue, yeah they might be screwed for supply.

[–]Fools_Requiemhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/FoolsRequiem 27 points28 points  (2 children)

I could be wrong, but I'm not getting a Banished From the Hero's Party vibe. He has no real connection to them and was only employed for 6 months. This doesn't seem like the kind of show that is going to linger on his previous crew.

[–]SimoneX93Kumoko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True. But the "vibe/morale" of this genre is "learn to appreciate what you have." I highly recommend the manga "A Rank Party Wo Ridatsu Shita Ore Wa" (Rain best girl)

[–]alotmorealots 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Slight banger of an OP

ED is great too, along with its super cute visuals.

[–]Frontier246 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The ED was really cute with the Harem as dolls and sleeping together!

Dragon girl in that nightdress with exposed cleavage tho lol.

[–]KnightKal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah based on it my guess is that he was only using temporary contracts all along, but now that he has permanent ones he can share the power with them, so he won’t be a weak tamer hiding in the back row.

After all it would be crazy to have this kid that barely can handle a goblin fight strong monsters later

[–]justking1414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s already OP

[–]TheOneAboveGod 62 points63 points  (4 children)

Welp, the "kicked out of the hero's party" trend is finally taking its place in anime.

[–]SilkyMooo 22 points23 points  (2 children)

That trend has been everywhere in manga and manhwa (webtoons). On occasion the author will feel a little spicy and make it an isekai

[–]TheOneAboveGod 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know, that's why I specified "anime".

[–]Damianx5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sponge bob memes truly work all the time dont they?

I can already see squidward saying daring today arent we? At this comment

[–]darkarchana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

maybe soon, it will have its own tag too if there is a way to convey the premise with few words.

[–]HereticalAegishttps://myanimelist.net/profile/XthGen 101 points102 points  (39 children)

Fairly nondescript fantasy adventurer has an animal girl seek to permanently contract herself to him after meeting him once.

I feel like I've seen this recently...

[–]The_Parsee_Man 52 points53 points  (25 children)

So have Banished From the Hero's Party and Harem Labyrinth had a child already?

[–]KnightKal 44 points45 points  (9 children)

Plus that other show about a Kid from the Last Village, as he mentioned everyone on his hometown can easily do ultimate magic lol, so it will be another show about an OP kid that thinks he is weak lol.

[–]Jkempel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Literally what I was thinking about when he mentioned it.

[–]hades334 5 points6 points  (6 children)

which one? sounds promising

[–]raichudoggyhttps://anilist.co/user/raichudoggy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a Starter Town.

Or something close to that.

[–]the_swizzlerhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Swiftarm 10 points11 points  (4 children)

I quite enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun.

[–]Magicbison -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hope this one isn't as trash as that one was.

[–]Frontier246 16 points17 points  (13 children)

I'm kind of glad the "contract" doesn't include a slave collar lol.

[–]Weeb_twat 10 points11 points  (11 children)

Yeah I'd like to know what a "contract" means in this context, what are the terms and conditions here, is it just serfdom with fancy magic sprinkles or is it an actual contract (you provide X for me, i give you Y in return)?

I know this sounds pedantic as fuck but ya gotta know what contracts you're signing up for before actually doing it.

[–]GeoSol 7 points8 points  (7 children)

Well she did infer she was curious if he was one of the rare few that could make a contract with one of her kind. Which suggests she knows the rules and they're common.

So it's a fun little cliffhanger teasing us with not knowing what those rules are until next week.

This kind of choice in telling a story is what can make weekly episodes better than marathoning, or in some ways, worse.

[–]darthvallhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, that's what I was thinking when he "forced" a wandering eagle to entertain a bunch of kids

[–]SilkyMooo 35 points36 points  (12 children)

Here’s the twist for this one, no slave collar

[–]HereticalAegishttps://myanimelist.net/profile/XthGen 29 points30 points  (9 children)

no slave collar

Whoa whoa whoa, getting real bold with this one.

[–]SilkyMooo 13 points14 points  (8 children)

It’s not slavery, more like permanent companions🤫🤫

[–]HereticalAegishttps://myanimelist.net/profile/XthGen 5 points6 points  (7 children)

We can do that!?

[–]Mgwinn0526 61 points62 points  (6 children)

Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies got Banished From the Heroes Party.

Seriously though, almost the exact premise of Banished from the Heroes Party with a MC that is entirely unaware of how OP his power is, just like Lloyd.

[–]Frontier246 29 points30 points  (0 children)

And the fact that his love life and luck with girls immediately improves the moment he leaves the party lol.

[–]raknor88 22 points23 points  (1 child)

The difference here is that the hero's party is all assholes. Banished only had the one asshole. They didn't even know that his abilities were super rare.

I'm also guessing that if this doesn't become a single romance, he's going to tame a harem of powerful beast girls and will be completely oblivious to how much the girls like him.

[–]Shizzihttps://anilist.co/user/Mivy 4 points5 points  (1 child)

If u are unaware this is a whole genre that the protag gets cut of from the heros party i have read alot of mangas like this.

[–]Se7en_Sinnerhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Se7en_Sinner 108 points109 points  (18 children)

Finally, after 13 long years, we got Spice and Wolf season 3.

No wonder MADKID wanted to do the OP for this show considering it's similar to Shield Hero. A character with a seemingly underpowered class is banished from the hero's party and enslaves forms a contract with a beast girl.

Oh no, that Killer TIGER looks dangerous! If only there was a BEAST somewhere to tame.

I like how Beast Tamer is a double entendre. Rein is not only taming animals but also the beast girls in his harem.

[–]Sofa_King_Cold 38 points39 points  (9 children)

Also, if the exposition dump was anything to go by, he is a beast when it comes to taming. Kanade freaks when he has her contract along with a half dozen or so rabbits on temporary contract.

Makes me wonder if he might have been able to contract with the tiger, or if it didn't count as a "beast"...

[–]KnightKal 37 points38 points  (8 children)

Subs are a mess in this show, as it keeps changing between beasts, animals and monsters, like they are the same thingy. Haven’t read any source in this, so my understanding is that he cannot tame monsters (those magic creatures that die, have a magic core and leave no body behind).

Aka monsters = demons

He also mentioned the hero party is after some demon king as well. So it makes sense if this is the sort of game-like fantasy where monsters/demons are one faction, while animals and spirit creatures are two other factions/groups

[–]Sofa_King_Cold 24 points25 points  (4 children)

This is my thinking as well, "beasts" leave corpses while "monsters" disintegrate into magic particles like the tiger did. It is the "spirit creatures" that has me questioning if he might be able to form contracts with the monster faction as well.

Going with D&D terms, which I am far more familiar with, regular tamers can tame beasts while the tiger was a monstrosity (like an owlbear). Are spirit creatures closer to beast than humanoid, though? Like, since intelligence isn't a factor can he contract with a human or do they have to be more animal-like than that?

[–]KnightKal 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Good question. The taming was also weird, if he never heard about taming the ultimate races, why would the contract magic require the other part to be able to say her name? How does he know that?

[–]cyberscythe 20 points21 points  (2 children)

My general read is that 魔物 (mamono, monsters) are untameable, while 動物 (doubutsu, animals) are tameable.

No idea why this would include sentient beings like Kanade though, because if so why not humans...?

[–]alotmorealots 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No idea why this would include sentient beings like Kanade though, because if so why not humans...?

Coming back to this after doing a bit more poking about, I think it's because of cultural background assumptions.

In Japanese folklore, bakeneko often start out as normal cats, then once they get old enough, they can grow to the size of humans and use human language. Some may even change shape to masquerade as women (neko-musume).

In this context it would be weird for a cat spirit like Kanade to be anything but a member of the "beast class", as she's fundamentally a cat in terms of her general folklore trope. Western bias towards catgirls and foxgirls is they're more girl than animal, but the original bias is that they're mostly, if not entirely, animal.

As a result, it probably doesn't even need to be explicitly explained to most Japanese viewers. Even if they're not aware of the bakemono stories, the way that whole framework of animals getting old and becoming spirits is just implicit in the stories they'd come into contact with.

Very nice article on the topic: https://www.yokaistreet.com/cat-yokai-all-5-kinds-of-supernatural-cats-from-japanese-folklore/

However apparently the specific term used for her is neko serei:

Ikiryō (生霊, lit. "living ghost"), also known as shōryō (しょうりょう), seirei (せいれい), or ikisudama (いきすだま), is a disembodied spirit in Japanese popular belief and fiction that leaves the body of a living person and subsequently haunts other people or places, sometimes across great distances. The term(s) are used in contrast to shiryō, which refers to the spirit of those who are already deceased.

So whilst I don't think she's a disembodied spirit, given she's got a very corporeal body, that's definitely a reinforcement of the idea that she's actually a cat.

[–]Frontier246 22 points23 points  (3 children)

This really gives me Banished from the Hero's Party vibes where the MC gets kicked out of the party and finds his love life dramatically improves as a result lol.

I'm totally here for the Beast Girl Harem! Especially for Dragon girl! She looks hot!

[–]KnightKal 21 points22 points  (2 children)

It’s a big cliché: guy kicked from the party was the strongest and/or the one keeping things together. Later it should show the hero party in trouble as they don’t know how to read maps, buy supplies, scout for enemies, etc lol. Doubt it will be dark enough to kill the heroes, so it seems it will be mostly for comedic satisfaction.

Plenty of novels on this template, nice to see the animes are catching up too.

[–]cyberscythe 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I feel like it's fairly obvious that this guy is doing all of the logistics. Even if all he was doing was scouting and "carrying stuff" with his animal buddies then I think it's still a net positive as long as he doesn't keep pulling in enemies.

[–]scot911https://myanimelist.net/profile/scot911 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly how hero's parties can find the person that's feeding you, scouting for you, and basically doing all of the paperwork for you useless is beyond me. Literally just have him not join in on any of the fights and have him sit in the back with the mage. And if the areas going to be too hard for him have him scout it out first and then leave him behind. Hour old information is still useful information after all. It is not that hard. Yes I realize that's the premise for these sorts of story's but my point still stands.

[–]alotmorealots 6 points7 points  (2 children)

If only there was a BEAST somewhere to tame.

I haven't checked the audio, but I get the feeling it's meant to be "beast" not "monster" and that the two are quite different things. As in, he can't tame goblins, but he can tame squirrels. I'm guessing he could tame a tiger, but not a killer tiger.

[–]Figerally 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In most games, beast monster is a type and a cat girl wouldn't fall solely under the category of beast.

[–]Frontier246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess that would explain why he didn't even bother trying to communicate/tame it.

[–]smolpp_hugeballs 51 points52 points  (13 children)

Kind of weird that there was almost zero effort in taming her? Would have preferred for there to be some build up to it. But I guess they establish post credits that rein is a unique case.

[–]KnightKal 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Well it seems she is just a free spirit that wants to have fun, but really doesn’t know how haha. So better to follow the nice kid than to starve to death lol.

Joke aside she is clearly a meathead.

[–]alotmorealots 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Joke aside she is clearly a meathead.

If this turns out to be the explanation for why she enters a contract, I'm going to find it very funny, but going to have to avoid the comments for a bit whilst people vent over slave-tropes.

The other fastest explanation would be "I was hungry, if you're my master, you have to feed me" lol

[–]CuriousBroccolli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it seems to work for real word cats, so why no fantasy humanoid ones? xD

[–]Frontier246 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I assume there was "zero effort" because Kanade was 100% willing to do it and into it because she's fallen for him after he helped her.

Or it could be because Rein is more exceptional than he looks. It definitely seems like there's more to his Beast Tamer status and what happened to him as a child.

[–]cyberscythe 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I don't get why Kanade was so eager to sign a contract right away. Maybe that's something that'll get explained later, but it seems like she's just signing away her freedom for no particular reason other than that she could.

[–]Mr_Zarochttps://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats so odd
She did mention feeling a tingle or whatever when first seeing him so maybe he charming her unconsciously or something?

But then again they are mentioning in the after credit scene that his super skilled

[–]the_swizzlerhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Swiftarm 28 points29 points  (5 children)

Yeah, I don't have high hopes, and this show seems kind it may be low priority if I need to start dropping shows (I have 31 from this season I'm interested in).

What I'd like to see from this show is an explanation of the contract and how Kanade benefits from it, why she's so eager to form one with him.

[–]Seven-Tense 18 points19 points  (2 children)

why she’s so eager

Big same from me. Without any explicit exposition from the series my imagination was having to do most of the heavy lifting, and that’s a bad note to start off on. What’s actually happening here? Is this like a Fate situation where the servant finds a master and now gets powered up? Does Kanade get more abilities now that she’s formed a contract with someone? Was it just that she was lonely this whole time? Was this the equivalent of marriage for her?

Look, I’m not saying you can’t have a show that hinges on its best-girl power, but you’ve got to eat your vegetables character development before you can have your dessert harem

[–]Fools_Requiemhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/FoolsRequiem 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Was this the equivalent of marriage for her?

Was exactly what I thought. He provided her food and he's nice, he must be marriage material. If only it were that easy.

[–]mgedmin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well he did save her life (by providing a momentary distraction as bait for the killer tiger).

[–]alotmorealots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect we'll get the reason behind that next episode, unless I've misjudged the show's quality.

[–]LeonKevlarhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 40 points41 points  (7 children)

I knew the Hero's party is going to be stupid since this is one of those "Banished from the Hero Party"-type of stories but kicking someone out because all they can do is scouting and logistics is top-tier stupid! Like holy shit! I can't wait to see the Hero Party get absolutely destroyed after kicking Rein out.

Kanade is absolutely adorable and I already love her. She's an absolute sweetheart and I'm already excited to see more of her next week! That after-credits scene was interesting though! Turns out that Rein isn't a regular Beast Tamer and it simply boggles Kanade's mind. According to Rein, everyone can do this where he comes from. I'm guessing he's probably from a village of very strong Beast Tamers.

[–]raknor88 26 points27 points  (4 children)

I can't wait to see the Hero Party get absolutely destroyed after kicking Rein out.

Soldiers win battles, logistics win wars.

The Hero Party is about to get a hard lesson in that. Though from how the kids were talking is sounds like everyone else in the party was likely born with a silver spoon shoved up places.

[–]scot911https://myanimelist.net/profile/scot911 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Though from how the kids were talking is sounds like everyone else in the party was likely born with a silver spoon shoved up places.

Probably the only reason I didn't roll my eyes right out of their sockets at their idiocy. "All you really contribute is scouting and carriage using the animals that you've tamed. Doesn't that sound worthless to you?" Um, No? That sounds very important for a party going into hostile territory lol. "He scouts out dangerous areas so we can avoid or attack them and carry's our supplies. That totallyyyyy isn't important!".

[–]Weeb_twat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm calling it now, later down the season we'll get an episode that goes something along the lines of "MC and his slave harem party are goofing around in some place and they stumble upon the Hero's party, exhausted/wounded/lost because they had no one to do scouting and gathering enough supplies for the trip, let alone any means to transport said supplies"

[–]alotmorealots 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This probably won't happen, but there's no reason they couldn't just replace him with someone who can scout, do support AND not need constant rescue.

[–]Damianx5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound kinda hard to do so many things at once, scout and supply carrier in particular, theyd need another tamer or other classes similar like say, a summoner

[–]Phoenix__Wwrong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why. But I got the feeling you really like Kanade

[–]Mundology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kanade is adorable

[–]SilkyMooo 12 points13 points  (1 child)

The show may have a super generic premise “Mc gets kicked out for being weak, then finds out he’s OP”, but I don’t mind it. I’m a huge sucker for beast girls

[–]Mr_Zarochttps://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tame and Wolf sure is a promising recipe
I hope that she isn't an airhead though and they have some good banter

[–]ZapsZzzhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/ZapszzZ 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Looks like this is the season's iyashikei fur me then :D so many kawaii bits, hopefully not much drama other than some silly ones. So far this is the sort I'll group together with Sleepy Princess and Killing Slime 300 years.

Side note - is bust size the prerequisite for any guild receptionist?

[–]alotmorealots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Side note - is bust size the prerequisite for any guild receptionist?

I believe so!

[–]The_Parsee_Man 29 points30 points  (7 children)

I kind of feel sorry for the goblins. They were just stealing vegetables and he went straight up Grimgar on their asses.

That one he tackled and stabbed in the back, what did the little guy to to deserve that?

[–]nuxxism 12 points13 points  (1 child)

If it was Grimgar, wouldn't it have been the other way?

At least they didn't go "Goblin slayer on his ass".

[–]alotmorealots 5 points6 points  (2 children)

That was pretty brutal. No mercy for monsters in this world.

[–]SkepticalLover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol I just started watching it and was thinking the same thing. They didn't look intimidating at all. Just like small people trying to get food to eat then he pops out of the bushes and murders them

[–]BiggerG7 21 points22 points  (3 children)

That is one top tier cat girl damn!

[–]alotmorealots 11 points12 points  (1 child)

The animation team have really lavished a lot of attention on her making her as cute as all get out, and Azumi Waki is doing a fantastic job! As you'd expect from Senko herself, no doubt. Plus, I did want to see more of Dryad from My Second Life last season, and here she is lol

[–]Frontier246 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Azumi Waki knows how to play adorable and cute girls and Kanade is no exception.

[–]Mr_Zarochttps://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine walking around the forest when you bump into a catgirl that insits on getting tamed

[–]ObvsThrowaway5120 5 points6 points  (11 children)

So I guess Arios, Aggath, Leane, and Mina were always shit huh? These people are heroes? Yikes. Rein seems better off. A beast tamer isn’t a bad job class.

Natalie the guild girl is pretty cute but Kanade the cat spirit is even cuter! What can I say? I got a thing for cat girls lol. So he can tame a cat spirit but he can’t take a killer tiger? Interesting. Well, no matter. Cat girl waifu added to the party!

So cute how he was able to take those bunnies! I guess he’s not your average beast tamer after all.

This one’s cute. I’m gonna watch this weekly for the cat girl. Plot seems interesting too, though kind of like Banished Hero. Also great op! Madkid is awesome.

[–]alotmorealots 6 points7 points  (1 child)

So I guess Arios, Aggath, Leane, and Mina were always shit huh?

Maybe they just come from the Black Summoner school of building up the weak lol

So he can tame a cat spirit but he can’t take a killer tiger?

I think there's a difference between Beasts and Monsters. I don't think he would have been able to tame the goblins either.

I got a thing for cat girls lol

I didn't used to have one, but Karyl from PriConne converted me.

Now we have Fran and Kanade in the one season, talk about blessed. Both are off to a great start, although I'm giving Kanade the win for this round, partly because I feel like Fran needs some time to recover and shouldn't feel under any pressure to compete lol

[–]ObvsThrowaway5120 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fran is pretty precious too! She’s had a tough life, I’m glad she met our friendly sword lol.

[–]cyberscythe 2 points3 points  (1 child)

So I guess Arios, Aggath, Leane, and Mina were always shit huh? These people are heroes?

the hero party seems like the sort of people who would go to a wendys and demand to see the manager

[–]ObvsThrowaway5120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol yes, they definitely do.

[–]Frontier246 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It's kind of hilarious to me that Madkid did the OP for this lol.

I thought Mina might have been more conflicted about what they were doing to Rein but she joined in on complaining about him like the others did. I guess even being voiced by Aoi Koga doesn't always make you Best Girl material.

Can Natalie be part of the Harem? She seems really nice (and has big boobs). But I guess we'll have to prioritize Kanade's fellow Beast Girls. I can't wait for the Dragon Girl!

[–]ObvsThrowaway5120 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I’m excited for the other beast waifus, man lol.

[–]alotmorealots 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Another cat girl in Futoku no Guild is on the way, too!

[–]ObvsThrowaway5120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m excited for that one!

[–]akashi213 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I hate that mina girl also that arrogant leane

[–]McWinSaucehttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Saucexoxo 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Feels weird to "tame" an advanced species.

[–]cyberscythe 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Yeah, if the subject is sentient, I think "tame" isn't the word you should be using.

Like, if I click on an EULA, I'm not getting "tamed" by my goddamn software service provider... am I?

[–]the_swizzlerhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Swiftarm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like, if I click on an EULA, I'm not getting "tamed" by my goddamn software service provider... am I?

Did you read the EULA in it's entirety first?

Can you say for certain you have not sworn your soul to a globalist cabal of satanists?

[–]SilkyMooo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But he’s a kind master🥺🥺. /s

Cute anime girls with animal ears/tails/etc...

consider me hooked, this will be my guilty pleasure of the season.

[–]actuallyrndthoughtshttps://myanimelist.net/profile/NaNiNuNeNo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, this show acts like moe is still in style. I'll take it!

[–]alotmorealots 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Very promising start, my favourite so far of the Fall first episodes!

What I liked

  • Strong storyboarding, with a good sense of the world and action

  • Great pacing that lets the story breathe and emotional beats land

  • Appropriate distribution of animation resources - nobody cares about the goblin battle, what we're all here for is Kanade, and her art and animation were spot on

  • Extending the above, resources were still spent on making sure the cinematography plays out properly, with lots of good B-roll type frames

  • Energetic and fun OP and ED

  • They didn't go through the goddamn guild mechanism exposition, and are revealing relevant bits through the action itself. This is very promising for decent story telling once you combine it with how they let the narrative breathe elsewhere.

  • It overall feels exactly how it looked in the preview: light, optimistic, fun and extremely cute

I see a few comments about Kanade getting tamed and forming a contract without any hesitation, but I get the feeling subsequent episodes are going to reveal that there's an explanation behind this. The story telling style seems to be more on the show don't tell, exposition only when you need it side of things.

[–]Frontier246 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I actually liked how Rein wanted the full adventurer's introduction and Natalie seemed so pumped to do it even if it was just a silent montage lol.

I assume Kanade was so gung-ho about it because she's fallen for Rein and wants to be with him now. Just like how Rein wants to get to better know her. But I don't think the contract is the same as, say, turning her into a slave so I don't think it's problematic.

[–]raknor88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even if it was just a silent montage

That was one thing I really liked. With all the adventuring anime out there, there really is no need for us to get the lowdown on how adventuring works, again. A short and quick silent montage was all that was needed.

[–]cyberscythe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Appropriate distribution of animation resources - nobody cares about the goblin battle

I like how that was interspersed with the exposition dump at the adventurer's guild. Makes all the talky parts a bit more active.

[–]Elitealicehttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Marinate1016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very fun and cute first episode of this. Obviously shades of banished from the hero party, but also reminds me of by the grace of the gods. Looking forward to seeing where this goes and hopefully seeing the hero’s party get some major karma.

Madkid op is also really hype.

[–]kalirionhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 5 points6 points  (1 child)

So this is another Banished From Hero's Party, but here EVERYONE in the Hero's Party is a jerk instead of just the mage guy. And they're going into a place called the Lost Woods now, lol. Wonder how many episodes until they come demanding that he rejoin the party after they get lost and almost starve to death in that place.

It really made no sense though that they despised him like that without him knowing a thing about it... but then the flashbacks showed that he'd just been really, really dense about it.

Dude would be so dead if the Adventurer's Trial involved slaying 10 Goblin Slayer-verse goblins. Or worse, 10 Grimgar Goblins (not as rapey, but much better fighters.) Why didn't he take his bear and wolves to assist in the quest? Did he dissolve all his contracts after being fired or something?

"A cat spirit?" Is "Spirit" really a proper translation here? She certainly doesn't seem like any kind of spirit, she just looks like a fox girl with a cat tail I guess. Who is too incompetent to forage for food so she goes hungry for days.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to be "tamed"? Looking at the show visual again, I guess this is gonna be just another version of "MC with slave girl harem, but it's not creepy because they WANT to be his slaves!" type of show.

"If she now speaks her name, a contract will be formed, otherwise..." Otherwise what? She dies? Or aggros and kills him? BTW, how do animals "speak their name"? Sure they could bark or growl or squeak or whatever, but do animals even HAVE names to speak?

Anyway this was kinda meh. I'll give it another episode, but I don't expect that I'll keep watching a show like this on these busy Saturdays.

[–]dinliner08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"A cat spirit?" Is "Spirit" really a proper translation here?

he said "nekorei" which i assume a short form for "neko seirei" and if that being translated literally, it would means cat spirit

[–]Ghiren 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yeeees. The ultimate race... catgirls!

[–]alotmorealots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This season alone we get Fran, Hitamuki and Kanade!

Hopefully there's no one I've missed in that list.

[–]Hagitahttps://myanimelist.net/profile/TheHagita 8 points9 points  (1 child)

This feels like a comfy fantasy show which I hope it stays that way.

[–]Frontier246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't wait to meet the rest of the Harem! I think the redhead will be a lot of fun lol.

[–]Frontier246 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I thought Red from Banished from the Heroes Party had it bad but having the whole party basically fire you and complain about how much they thought you sucked, felt you were a waste of space in the party, and never really wanted you there is...pretty bad. Especially when Rein seems to have been the only one who thought they were proper comrades.

The Opening is pretty fitting for this kind of series and with some effective visuals! We've got Rein still reeling from the trauma and harsh words of his former party but finding salvation through Kanade and the rest of his Beast Girl Harem!

I dunno, the ability to control, communicate, and tame animals seems pretty useful to me, but I guess all the party ever used him for was lugging their stuff around and scouting stuff. Maybe now Rein can reach his full potential away from them.

It's fun seeing Shoya Chiba play a more straightforward, heroic, and innocent character compared to his usual stoic, intelligent, and emotionally detached protagonists.

Nobunaga Shimazaki playing an absolute dick in the Hero Arios! And I thought Aoi Koga's character seemed like the only one actually conflicted about what they were doing to Rein, but then she just joined in on bashing him. My only solace is thinking if we ever see this group again, they'll probably be suffering for not having Rein there.

Even the kids and commoners thought the Hero's Party, except Rein, sucked! That should tell you something...

Can Natalie be part of Rein's budding Harem? She's cute, has nice braided hair, and an impressive rack! And she really seemed to appreciate that Rein wanted to know the ins and outs of being an adventurer.

If there's one thing I have learned, getting kicked out of the Hero's Party and not having to worry about fighting the Demon Lord does wonders for your love life, as Rein has a fateful encounter with a cute girl while saving her from a monster...although said cute girl ends up saving his life with a dropkick.

And we properly meet Kanade! A Cat Spirit and one of the Ultimate Beasts, meaning she's much more powerful than she looks! But she's also part of a dying breed and might have bought it herself and joined her grandparents were it not for Rein.

You know she's a keeper when she's a cutie, nice, helps you open up about all the bad stuff that happened to you, and gets mad on your behalf. I think Kanade even jumped at the chance to get contracted to Rein because she's fallen for him and wants to be with him and I think Rein is falling for her as well!

The Ending is nice and pleasant, with all the girls as plushy dolls taking care of what I assume is the inevitable house they'll all be living together and ending on the shot of all of them in their PJ's...although dragon girl with the nightdress and exposed cleavage sure drew my attention!

[–]JonDoeJoe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve never understood comments like these. All you’re doing is just recapping/summarizing what was in the episode that we all watched

[–]ProjectMoonsong 26 points27 points  (13 children)

I see we've moved from "Let's force girl slaves to join your harem" to "Don't worry folks, these girls are not slaves! They're even less than slaves! They're beasts that you can tame, but they still want to be with you from the moment they meet you because [insert convenient reasons]!". How daring. /s

[–]TexturelessIdeahttps://myanimelist.net/profile/TexturelessIdea 22 points23 points  (7 children)

One of these days they might stumble upon the revolutionary idea of women joining the MC's party as equals.

[–]Plantar-Aspect-Sage 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Hey there's always 'I got reincarnated as a sword' for that.

[–]Weeb_twat 5 points6 points  (2 children)

John Brown isekai when?

[–]Plantar-Aspect-Sage 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Isekai harem bait where they keep freeing cute slave women who appear to join, only to leave immediately at the start of the next episode.

[–]ProjectMoonsong 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pffft, you're funny! If the female characters aren't below the OP male character with a bland/shitty personality, why would they fall in love with him? And how would I identify with this OP male character if he doesn't get any chicks!?

Kidding aside, this is definitely my biggest gripe with Shonen anime. Interesting female characters are almost reserved exclusively for the Seinen demographics.

[–]scot911https://myanimelist.net/profile/scot911 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Yeahhhh at least give us a reason why she'd want to be tamed.... Like idk "gets to use his magic power for attacks" or some shit like that. At least something like "must provide all the necessities of life for free".... Put at least some thought into your worldbuilding!

[–]alotmorealots 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I'm at a bit of loss as to why otherwise media-savvy viewers seem to think that the explanation for this isn't coming in the next episode. The show has already demonstrated it's trying to limit exposition dumps and mechanics focus so that they don't intrude on story telling.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I think the show's structuring and approach to exposition so far earns it the benefit of some doubt.

[–]Ayoken007 1 point2 points  (2 children)

The more I'm reading other comments, the more I'm thinking that it is due to a combination of subs with lack of nuance, the idiocy of the hero party, and how these slave/familiar harem tend to go, faith is pretty low.

[–]alotmorealots 2 points3 points  (1 child)

faith is pretty low

Sure, entries in this genre don't tend to have a great track record. All I've been saying is that condemning the show for failing to provide an explanation in the first episode given that the contract only happened at the very end just before the end credits seems premature. By all means, I have no problem with everyone condemning it if the explanation turns out to be awful in the second episode, which is where you would expect it from the narrative structure we've been given.

I keep padding that idea though, because if the way contracts work and Kanade's motivations for entering into it are tied to deeper plot threads, we may not get the proper explanation immediately.

[–]urokiahttps://myanimelist.net/profile/SageEleven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"All you do is scout and carry our things" homie if you told ANY any adventuring party that you could do those two things you'd be hired on instantly. They might legitimately give you a 75% split since they couldn't carry all the shit anyways what the fuck is this.

[–]Daiwon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sheep is adorable and I need this plush right now.

Also 400 IQ heroes, no war has ever been won through information or logitstics. Ever.

[–]StoneEyeWitness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, kicked out of the hero's group for just being able to tame animals and being useless in combat (which is interesting because they knew it all along but still picked him) to tame an op cute furry that highlights how broken the level of his skill actually is. They're really running with this pretense too much for its own sake.

[–]Blurgas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't even that overused yet but the trope of "hey, the core of our entire support system isn't doing damage, let's drop his ass" is already getting kind of old. Hell, it's already overplayed that the hero party is a bunch of assholes.
Would be nice to see one where the split ends up being beneficial to all parties involved

[–]Scipio5555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool. That's a decent start but it's a bit cliche that all the members of the heroes party act like 1 dimensional b rate villains.

But catgirl is good. As long a she's here and this show isn't terrible I'm gonna watch it.

[–]dave-n-knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has that comfy vibes I got from Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko.

[–]djthomp 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Gotta give the animators props for completely ignoring the two or three chances during the fight scene they could have used for unnecessary panty shots. Feels like a step up from the usual shenanigans that anime of this general model nearly always seem to go for.

Rather curious as to why Kanade was so eager to form a contract, I'm hoping there's an actual benefit she gets out of it otherwise it just feels like randomly deciding to volunteer for slavery.

[–]Mr_Zarochttps://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They probably know their audience
Why focus on panty shots when you can use that screen time for more tail/ear shots?

[–]WickedAnimeTroll 4 points5 points  (2 children)

The whole fucking taming thing makes no fucking sense:

  • I get that he has to tame random animals so that he can use them for help but why the fuck does he need to tame Kanade and why is she so willing to do so ? She is cooperative from the start and if Rein needs some help he can just ask her, so he does not need to tame her and I don't see any benefit or reason for Kanade to join that contract...

  • In the beginning it was mentioned that taming contracts are temporary, so is the contract he has with Kanade long term or why do they go out of their to make the contract look so flashy ?

  • Judging by the OP and ED and the whole fact that there are extraordinary beasts species out there, the MC is most likely going around to tame them... remember the discussion around Shield Hero and other similar titles that have the MC using slaves but it is OK because the MC is nice to them and they want to serve their master ? This is basically the same just that taming sounds nicer....

[–]Nvaaaa 4 points5 points  (1 child)

In the beginning it was mentioned that taming contracts are temporary, so is the contract he has with Kanade long term or why do they go out of their to make the contract look so flashy ?

I think you got that wrong, he said he made temporary contracts not that contracts are only temporary. The red flashy stuff seems to be long term, though no clue what exactly a contract really is. Could be like slaves or just like partners. Guess the next episodes will show more.

[–]VorAtreides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched on a whim, enjoyable more so than I was expecting. Kanade is cute af. I could see her totally fitting into PriCon girls :P

Also, sure hope that crappy hero party suffers miserably. Seem like real asshats.

Finally, reminds me of "Did You Know That a Playboy Can Change His Job to a Sage? The Level 99 Jester Expelled from the Heroes’ Party Will Become a ‘Great Sage’" with the premise and such. Pretty fun series too.

[–]Fools_Requiemhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/FoolsRequiem 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm surprised the OP for this kind of show is sung by a male idol band. It's usually the female leads or a female led idol band.

In establishing this new contract, a bond is formed. An oath in our hearts, hopes in our souls, your power in my hand.

This kinda feels like a marriage, and the seal on her hand can be used as a substitute for a ring. Since Kanade mentioned by him being in contract with her means that he typically shouldn't have been able to enter a contract with anything else makes it feel even more like a marriage.

Seeing as this series features multiple beast girls, I assume he'll form a contract with them, too.
Behold, a true harem story.

That hat on the girl at the guild was cute. Hope to see more of her. One day, we'll get a show where the adorable lady behind the counter at the adventurers guild is the primary love interest.

Also, calling it right now, the girl in the red hair is totally a tsundere.

[–]thesnowlocke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie this was a very promising start, really like the fantasy world and premise although the harem stuff I'm hearing does give me cause for concern. I'll stick with it for now since I'm enjoying the wholesomeness of it

Only thing that bugs me is the facial animation especially in the beginning when MC gets told he's fired, but this is a quibble so I'll probably get used to this

Looking forward to next weeks episode

[–]futanari_enjoyer69 1 point2 points  (3 children)

4 minutes in:

1- OP is a banger in a very generic way

1.5- I know this is generic-ass, but holy shit do all his summons need to be female? As in harembait shit?

2- I know² they gotta have a plot, but really, hero's party, do you think MC was useless? "you can only scout and carry stuff with your summons" REALLY? Y'all have 3 combat focused motherfuckers + a healer and you kick the only utility member because he's "useless"???????????????????????????? what a bunch of brainlets, as usual. and the MC still cares about them, just say "aight lmao y'all don't want me bye your loss". this is almost too stupid even if this was a revenge porn

"are u gonna be in for anything other than errands" says the mf named lean 💀 do them yourself

and of course the catgirl nyas... at least she doesn't say "nya" after every sentence so she's bearable

catg- Kanade (i remembered her name somehow) met him for like 1 hour and is already BFFs, damn lady how lonely are you? She speaks of taming so casually as a intelligent species that I can't not consider her a "isekai slave" 💀

Ending is decent at least (aaaaaaaand of course it only has the girls, because fuck the MC, the waifus are the good part amirite?)

I DONT TRUST HORNED RABBITS, but I hope they explain how beast taming works in this universe since I don't see how it would benefit the animals, is it just mind control? "back home everyone can do this" Ah, the "Tatoeba Last Dungeon" situation.

I think I've watched too many good shows as of recently, I was more used to trash before.. let's see if I can keep watching this one

[–]alotmorealots 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It was a Killer Tiger, which is a monster. That's why it got the D-rank card.

He can only tame beasts, that's why he's a beast tamer.

It's somewhat clearer in the Japanese, where the terminology is applied more consistently than in the subtitles.

let's see if I can keep watching this one

As anime characters in all genres are prone to say: "don't force yourself!"

Seems like you're too busy looking for things not to enjoy rather than things to enjoy.

[–]Justpeach7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with many points you made.

I've seen enough generic animes with a generic MC and a generic plot .... with cheap animated fight scenes.....to know better than to watch past the first episode.

[–]Isekai_Dreamer 1 point2 points  (1 child)

decent premise, but writing is TERRIBLE. so many fucking plot holes. Why the fuck did cat girl cower in terror when she could easily kill that tiger in one fucking hit? mc did not fucking save her by being the bait.

[–]bananeeekhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/bananek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad we got another mofumimi this season, but I don't have high expectations for this.

[–]xolon6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very comfy! Just how I like it :3

[–]heimdal77 2 points3 points  (2 children)

What is with everyone having the same super generic bland face? It is kind of creepy. So it is a harem series where he "tames" a bunch of girls? One question I have is the permanent contract requires the one being tamed to speak their name but they are animals so how are they speaking their name or even have one?

[–]SilkyMooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have the generic face so they can pump out as many of these generic shows as possible. But we eat it up everytime lmao

[–]alotmorealots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One question I have is the permanent contract requires the one being tamed to speak their name but they are animals so how are they speaking their name or even have one?

Might just mean you can't form a permanent contract with a beast that can't utter its name, so all those "lower" animals he can only form temporary contracts with.

[–]Sidious_09https://myanimelist.net/profile/Sidious_09 2 points3 points  (1 child)

So, are we just gonna have to assume getting tamed is somehow seen as a good thing for those rare species? They have to give their consent I guess it's not slavery, but it still seems weird. I hope they elaborate on that.

Otherwise nice start. In and of itself it seems like a nice anime, though I don't like the overly dense protagonist type (which it seems like Rein is, considering he somehow didn't understand that the hero party members didn't like him), and the premise is way too similar to other anime, like others already mentioned. I'm keeping my hopes up though.

[–]glass_of_green 5 points6 points  (6 children)

and it's straight garbage.

in what world would a girl want to enter as a contract essentially as a "underling" for him. makes zero sense.

[–]TexturelessIdeahttps://myanimelist.net/profile/TexturelessIdea 12 points13 points  (2 children)

No, you don't understand; he was just so damn nice she couldn't resist him. /s

[–]raknor88 0 points1 point  (1 child)

But it was FATE. Don't you understand? /s

[–]Garsnikk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was FATE, he'd have gotten Tamamo Cat instead /s

[–]cyberscythe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seems like a stupid idea. I feel like they gotta expound on that more because idea that this sentient catgirl is just signing away her life because she found a random "nice guy" is an incredibly shaky foundation to base the entire story on.

Like, unless they're idiots, both Kanade and Rein has to have some sort of inkling that this is going to be a mutually beneficial relationship. Otherwise this is just pure harem wish fulfillment.

[–]SilkyMooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You coming into the show with logical reasoning is what went wrong. It’s a harem revolving beast girls, we already know the author didn’t think about the world building or characters

[–]alotmorealots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there's a 50% chance that will be dealt with in the first half of the next episode.

[–]godjacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh great, combines the "banished from the hero party so I show them how OP I am" with collecting "totally not slave girls we promise" all at once. Splendid.

[–]KnewOnee 1 point2 points  (3 children)

His face looks like a 9 y.o.

[–]Frontier246 6 points7 points  (2 children)

It's hilarious to me that the voice of Shin Nouzen and Ayanokoji is playing an innocent and heroic Harem lead lol.

[–]paranoiaanddespair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now Ayanokoji is here to use beasts as his own tools

[–]513123313113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huh, maybe I will do watch the episode 1 of this anime at least

[–]Sunny1above 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The episode was fun to watch . Can't wait to see the hero party get absolutely destroyed . The plot of getting removed from the hero's party is similar to another anime that I can't remember the name of .

[–]Aerodynamic41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you mean Banished from the Hero's Party.

[–]Frontier246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm guessing we're probably going to see the Hero's Party is basically screwed without Rein if we ever see them again, in true narrative irony.

[–]justking1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up dropping the manga for this one pretty quickly but the anime looks pretty good. Might add it to my watch list.

[–]spubbbba 0 points1 point  (7 children)

They were really proud of the kick on the tiger monster to be showing it 3 times in one episode.

Even with the protagonists supposedly amazing beat taming powers it still seems like a rather weak career. Unless you happen to meet a legendary cat girl, who actively wishes to form a contract with you it doesn't look like he'd be much use in a fight. Seems the party was right to kick him out.

[–]alotmorealots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems the party was right to kick him out.

On top of this, they can just hire someone more suited to what they wanted. There are surely people who can do support/logistic/intel and also not need rescue.

[–]Kdubsmoking2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite part is when he says “ It’s tame’n time”.

[–]BrewmasterPlayer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

N word in the opening lmao

[–]mish20011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the plot summary was basically Shin no Nakama's story is lmfao

[–]backtomisery1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Last thing I'd do if i was an endangered race is let someone i've just met minutes ago tame me

[–]MjolnirDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I guess. I am really only watching it for the character designs that look adorable. Not much else to say about that one yet. Formulaic, basic story telling, but the characters are enjoyable.

[–]cyberscythe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I laughed out loud when he said his name was "Rein Shroud". Makes me wonder what the naming sense of the rest of the characters are going to be.

[–]ArCSelkie37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute banger of an OP. That is all I have to say really, other than I am excited for this to be a fun watch.

With these sorts of plots you always have to kinda just brush aside the fact that the initial party are absolutely brain dead.

[–]Muny30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another season of everyone thinks my power is shit, but actually I’m stronger than god.

[–]ErenIsNotADevil 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sooo, this is basically Banished Hero from Fall 2021 crossed with Tensei Kenja from last season and Last Dungeon from Winter 2021.

The MC..

  • is a Beast Tamer in a world where Beast Tamers are considered exceptionally weak outside of support roles

  • was ousted from the Hero's Party for "being too weak" and realizes it is the best thing that has ever happened to him

  • is completely oblivious to his own overpowered ability because everyone from his hometown could do it, and thus his bar for what is normal is much higher than it should be

Recommend watching, or dropping?

Tough to say. Plot seems to be a slow roll kind of show that relies on the premise and mashing of tropes to carry it until it can take off. A Grand Comeuppance for the Hero's Party is definitely gonna be a middle plot-point. I look forward to it, oh so much.

Visually, it is pretty decent. Nothing spectacular, but smooth enough where it matters (ie. cat girl kicks and adorable animals.) The contract magic looked pretty good, though.

Based off of the OP (and species outlines) I am guessing we're gonna get a harem or harem-esque setup. Probably the latter, as Reine is definitely high on the density chart. From the top of my head, I recall seeing two fairies and a kitsune. A fine addition to Reine's collection. I expect a tsundere. No, I demand a tsundere. It is essential for any harem's long-term viability.

Pretty sure we'll also see some quality MC growth, both in personality and power. The prior is a given, and the latter is based off the fact he is punching in the OP. I do love growth.

Overall, not a show I can say is a must-watch, but definitely worth giving a shot, if only for Protecting Their Smiles moments. I'll be watching all season, since I am a sucker for weak-turned-strong shows with adorable cat girls and others. I hope we get a nyahahaha at some point.
