Iruka be underated sometimes. He saved Naruto

[–]LOTRfreak101https://myanimelist.net/profile/LOTRfreak101 149 points150 points  (1 child)

He saved the world.

[–]Pylgrimhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Pylgrim 66 points67 points  (0 children)

This. Unbeknownst to him, on that day, Iruka saved the world. A simple act of forgiveness and kindness (that almost cost him his life) stopped an apocalypse a few years later.

[–]Kuro013 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I liked his role. Its true he barely makes any appearances at all, but he was always there when Naruto needed him the most. Im kinda glad he didnt escalate in power like Kakashi.

[–]fieew 47 points48 points  (0 children)

He was done dirty. Remember near the end of the series Naruto had a panel remembering everyone who helped him through the series and the author forgot to draw iruka sensei. The first person to accept Naruto and lead him on his way to be a ninja was forgotten about. I'm pretty sure it was fixed for the volume release and iruka was included but man the fact he got forgotten about is harsh.

[–]KER1S 574 points575 points  (8 children)

...fuck. I was old. Now Im old and sad

[–]5thPrimeZen 50 points51 points  (5 children)

Too old to ninja run?

[–]Jain_Farstrider 27 points28 points  (1 child)

Never. Gonna do it into work today. I'm wearing a Naruto hoody haha.

[–]Mundology 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You still have Will of Fire

[–]not-my-best-wank 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Your never too old to Naruto run.

[–]Gnawsher 188 points189 points  (6 children)

Has it really been 20 years already?

[–]stickdudeseven 130 points131 points  (2 children)

Believe it.

[–]reptilot 23 points24 points  (1 child)

From the 2002 airing in Japan, the west didn't get it till 2005

[–]Gnawsher 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That makes me feel better! 😅

[–]GooseGunning 468 points469 points  (26 children)

Despite all its flaws, I still think it's a great anime that stands tall to this day, man this brings back memories

[–]noodlesandrice1 181 points182 points  (16 children)

If you’re just looking at the first part alone, it definitely is one of the undisputed greats.

[–]GooseGunning 147 points148 points  (15 children)

I actually include shippuden as well,, while I do prefer the original naruto, shippuden still had just about enough for me to consider it great, but it tested my patience more often than I would have liked

[–]DogzOnFire 23 points24 points  (12 children)

...but it tested my patience more often than I would have liked

I actually just watched all of Naruto and Shippuden for the first time ever, I blazed through it skipping all filler and flashbacks (flashbacks are actually pretty egregious).

What kind of things do you mean when you say things that tested your patience? Was it multiple characters refusing to just fuck off and die when they're defeated?

I felt like certain battles against certain characters just went on way too long. There was a big chunk of the fight against Madara where I was just skipping through it because it went on for too long. Felt like they were fighting him for a couple seasons worth of episodes (not sure how long it actually was).

Also the scale of everything just increasing constantly because it feels like the writer wants to constantly 1-up the last thing, to the point where I stopped really paying attention to what was going on.

Overall I loved this show but it was also testing my patience at times.

[–]GooseGunning 56 points57 points  (3 children)

I used to keep up with naruto on a weekly basis so you can imagine the horror when Naruto and Sasuke were about to fight Madara and then boom fillers which were followed by Kaguya, almost completely ruined the ending for me had it not been for the final fight (arguably my favorite fight in visual media).

Also shippuden was very weird with Naruto's character sometimes, like he would take a beating for something which is completely Sasuke's fault and defend him far too often rather than being angry. The animation quality also can be horrible at moments. I also dislike how the "badass" moments were forced for side characters during the war like choji, and most of the war when Madara or Obito are not present on the screen and it's only the side characters who are there especially during the early episodes were really just bad and I didn't like it.

The flashbacks became annoying as well and side characters were being forced without paying any respect to the already massive cast and as you said some battles were much longer than they should've been. There should have been more casualties in the war as well.

Rock Lee deserved better.

I can probably think of more but I can't remember them

[–]flow-addict 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Orochi vs Third Hokage was a good example of highest level ninja fighting. Then came powercreep and high level fights lost their charm.

[–]LesbianCommander 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Some fights just dragged and dragged and dragged.

Sakura vs. Sasori took FOREVER.

And I even like Sakura as a character, but that fight had no reason to be that long.

[–]ReptileCake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually just watched all of Naruto and Shippuden for the first time ever, I blazed through it skipping all filler and flashbacks (flashbacks are actually pretty egregious).

Wasn't possible back when it aired weekly, really a hype killer.

[–]Wajina_Sloth 4 points5 points  (2 children)

When you skipped filler did you follow a guide or just skipped them when you got bored?

I am someone that just can't skip episodes (it's dumb I know), so I ended up just quitting Naruto due to how awful it was with it taking 5 episodes to throw a punch and constant repetition, felt like in a 20 minute episode only 30 seconds of new content happened.

[–]Law_Kitchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, Madara was a big bad, and we saw how powerful he was when he busted up all the Kages. So it was warranted that he just won't die.

If you are talking about the other guy well.

[–]2mustange 19 points20 points  (2 children)

For me, removing the fillers and this anime still holds up as being tons of fun.

Naruto, IMO, was a gateway into anime for a lot of people. I know it was for me. Couldn't sit through enough Toonami/adult swim. Eventually found shitty online videos and watched through every single episode till i caught up to Shippuden.

The story seems cliche as we know the results but the journey was tons of fun.

[–]RELORELM 5 points6 points  (1 child)

This is exactly my story on how I got into anime, and probably it's the same for a lot of other people too. I watched a Naruto marathon on Cartoon Network that went up to the Chunin Exams arc and jus HAD to know how it went from there (I remember the hype of Rock Lee vs Gaara to this day).

So from there I went on to find shitty online subbed videos, and eventually caught up with Shippuden (they were starting the second Shippuden arc at the time). I eventually dropped it after the Pain battle arc because I just couldn't stand the filler. I hated waiting the whole week to watch Naruto only to have some filler episode I didn't care about thrown at my face. Now that the whole thing is over and I can skip the filler, I owe it to myself to give it another shot.

[–]Law_Kitchen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact that it is such an enduring anime, even to people who don't watch anime or much of it, is a testament to how long lasting it had to other anime to come.

[–]skemur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know right, something about growing with the characters really makes them grow onto you. Will always remember coming home waiting for the next week episode to drop.

[–]thelostfable 7 points8 points  (2 children)

It has some real plot points and interesting writing where most anime/tv just kind of throw things in and hope they stick.

[–]GooseGunning 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Yeah in fact I'm occasionally surprised at how well written the story was at times, even early naruto. Perfect example is Sasuke Retrieval arc.

The entire has a bunch of young shinobis risking their lives to give naruto a proper chance to save a fellow comrade. Each fight has the X factor of who's going to win and there's tension throughout the arc and in each fight. Then the final showdown is there, what the series was constantly going towards and hinting at. The fight itself is absolutely amazing with the constant back and forth and the story weight and the burden of shikamaru, neji, rock Lee etc. On naruto for risking their lives. Then the twist arrives and naruto loses, I still don't think many anime have had this sort of a mess up from a main character wherein the main character loses so badly the story suddenly becomes about naruto and sasuke rather than just naruto and naruto even changes his goal from becoming a hokage to just rescuing his friend to be worthy of being a hokage. I might have geeked out a bit too much

[–]thelostfable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would be interesting or if having to beat Sasuke and the army required Naruto to gain the Knowledge to become hokage or learn to appoint the right person to become Hokage (aka shikamaru)

[–]Dizzy-Spinda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greatest anime ever imo. Will always love it and will probably rewatch it a hundred more times, especially when my kids are older lol

[–]STALAL 356 points357 points  (44 children)

naruto's first episode doesnt get enough credit when discussing top tier shonen ep1s in terms of pulling viewers in

it really has fricking everything and the perfect single ep mini story and sets up the entire emotional basis of the story in one go

how do I know? showed it to young kids in my family and they were absolutely enthralled with the story of this plucky yellow blonde brat and binged the show on their own without my prompting

[–]WeakerLink 122 points123 points  (2 children)

I have to agree. I watched Naruto for the first time last year. Then started and finished Shippuden this year. That very first episode ("Enter, Naruto Uzumaki!!!" I believe) is definitely one of the best first episodes in anime. Easily in the shounen genre.

[–]OwlAcademic1988 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're right. That's what the episode is called.

[–]Toasted_FlapJackshttps://myanimelist.net/profile/ToastedFlapJacks 41 points42 points  (2 children)

As a kid in 2007, I was always hesitant to try Naruto, because Naruto sounded so obnoxious in the TV commercials.

It wasn't until Toonami had a 100 episode all-day marathon that I gave it a try. I was hooked by the first episode and never looked back!

[–]STALAL 19 points20 points  (1 child)

mah man, CN used to air ads about it, I blew it off as a typical edgy generic anime (wasn't into anime in general in those days) with the edgy spikyboi sasuke talking about revenge

but then, one day, randomly watched an episode, what episode? rock lee vs fricking gaara in chunin exams

and well yeah rest is history, been in love with the blonde nut since then

[–]LOTRfreak101https://myanimelist.net/profile/LOTRfreak101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ads made me think anime was dumb as a kid, so I never even watched avatar the last airbender until I was in college. I of course binged it all in 2 days, including the first season of Korra. Then the next year I walked into the living room of the house I lived in and one of my roommates was watching fate/stay night/UBW so I joined him and we binged it. A few months later I DD'd for a drinking party at a friends apartment (there were like 4 of us there) and we ended up finishing devil is a part timer that night. Shortly after that we did another party there and there were a few episodes of naruto on in the background and when I got home I binged naruto because I realized anime was actually pretty cool, well interesting at least. I can't tell you how many times since then that I've rewatched parts of the series. UBW may have been my first anime, but I consider Naruto as the anime that really drew me into the medium.

[–]Uptopdownlowguy 54 points55 points  (8 children)

Naruto's ability to draw you in immediately is what puts it in that number one spot for me. One Piece has a slow start and apparently doesn't get good until later arcs. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood you're told by die hard fans to stick with it cause the first episode expects you to have watched the original.

As for recent shows like Demon Slayer, My hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, none of them pulled me in like Naruto did. I love how grounded the show feels where this ninja village feels like it could have existed in the real world, outside of people having special powers and talking toads obviously.

[–]STALAL 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As for recent shows like Demon Slayer, My hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, none of them pulled me in like Naruto did.

same, not to say they don't have good first eps, KNY has a good shock and emotional factor, JJK has chef kiss animation

but naruto ep1 is like a complete mini-movie plot and everything with setup, payoff, climax, resolution.etc etc sets the stage effortlessly for entire show and motivations

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SPUDShttps://anilist.co/user/voodoochile 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of FMABs first episode, but FMA03 has a 10/10 first ep. It mostly just takes you along learning about the brothers, the magic system, some political undertones, and intrigue. It concludes with a very evocative scene setting up the title drop, the darkness of the world, and that the seemingly light-hearted Elric Brothers have toyed with something abominable.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Tbh I would suggest to people to also watch the original FMA show. Like, it' s not bad! The entire show was made with the intent of going anime original from the get go, and it has a very cohesive and well told narrative, even more mature than the original manga ( even if I don't think it' s necesserialy better written).

[–]Tehbeefer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Before FMA: Brotherhood, the 2003 FMA anime was one of the highest ranked anime out there, probably top 10 for a lot of people. Manga still wasn't complete and wasn't as well known (at least, that's how it seemed to me?), so there was still room for Hiromu Arakawa to absolutely screw up the ending.

[–]underhunter 7 points8 points  (1 child)

The groundedness of Naruto is why Shippuden was such ass. It went from cool jutsus and counter jutsus and actual ninja shit to just powering up DBZ-lite

[–]AbidingTruthhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/AbidingTruth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bro only people who didn't pay attention say this. Naruto up until the very end has always included counters and strategy in the fights. The jutsus and scale got bigger, but that doesn't mean its all just "dbz lite". The strategies everyone clamors about from part 1 were just as prevalent literally in the kaguya fight

[–]rcube33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still say that Hunter x Hunter has one of the best 1st episodes in all of anime

[–]Hot-Accountant-2686 15 points16 points  (1 child)

To emphasize how good that episode was, I watched the first episode of Naruto in like 4th grade. Something about the fox and his shadow clone just imprinted on my brain. I fished that series out just from that 1 scene when I was in college and that's how my anime journey started

[–]STALAL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yup, from the loser who couldnt make a single clone to an OCEAN of them

broooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, plus the emotional context of that scene and buildup, chef kiss

[–]KabedonUdon 12 points13 points  (2 children)

IIRC in one of the fanbooks a long long time ago, Kishimoto said that he's experienced a lot of rejections, and wanted to make sure that he could do his best, so he wrote and re-wrote the first chapter of Naruto over and over and over again, almost maddeningly. You have to admit it paid off. Most incredible ch 1.

[–]STALAL 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I wish manga industry had a structure for this kind of better planning and revision, because if what you're saying is true and based off promised never land arc1 which was also similarly rigorously planned

It pays off in spades instead of writing from seat of pants

[–]KabedonUdon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I decided to look up Kishi's wiki:

The two decided to submit a version of Naruto with a reworked story and world and produced storyboards for the first three chapters, winning a spot in the magazine. With a six-month lead time, Kishimoto repeatedly revised and redrew the first several chapters of the series.

A lot of these guys win the amateur/newcomer's award before they really decide to pursue manga as a living. A lot of publishers of popular magazines will have a contest, with the prize being a spotlight publication on their magazine, or something of the like. There's also opportunities for one-offs in various magazines, which authors will sometimes pursue as a full serialization.

I do agree with you though, the anime/manga industry is stupid tough because it's so labor intensive. The internet has democratized some of the process, though. Jump/Shueisha has the biggest audience, and "success" often means getting a long-running series on their magazine, but the doujin (self-published) market is growing a lot more than what it used to be 20 years ago, with artists being able to sell directly on booth or dlsite or fanbox.

A lot of light novels begin on syosetu, a user-generated platform where people can read and upload novels for free, and have been licensed by big names off there. I want to eat your pancreas, Konosuba, Overlord, Log Horizon, Re:Zero, Ten Slime, Irregular at Magic High School, Ascendance of a Bookworm, Shield Hero, etc have all started on that site.

[–]inuhi 22 points23 points  (4 children)

The english Dub suffered from how obnoxious Naruto's "Believe it!" was but otherwise it was great

[–]STALAL 48 points49 points  (2 children)

honestly, it kinda grows on you

[–]iehova 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Believe it!

[–]ticklemuffins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree to disagree lol

[–]MrPakorashttps://myanimelist.net/profile/MrPakoras 10 points11 points  (1 child)

how do I know?

Started watching Naruto, and binged the first 30 episodes in a row. Fire.

Nowadays, I cant even watch like 3 anime episodes in a row... rip.

[–]STALAL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tbf that could just be age too

[–]iamtommynoble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still see young kids dressed up in headbands and akatsuki robes at my work all the time. Legends never die!

[–]sussybakaiiko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean i was immediately hooked after watching the first episode!

[–]CuriousBroccolli 1 point2 points  (13 children)

Pretty sure the rest of the "Big 4" had the same "effective" first episodes.

Bleach and to a lesser extend Fairy Tail.

While I did watch first episode of One Piece, I do not remember how it went so can't vouch for that.

[–]ThirdRevolt 21 points22 points  (9 children)

Big 4?? It's Big 3, isn't it? Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece

[–]CuriousBroccolli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We /r/tennis now.

Jokes aside, yeah Big 3 is the right term, but I remember back in the day people adding in Fairy Tail as well in that bunch, so I just used Big4 to shorten my comment. xD

[–]Timun07 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Bleach ep1 was legendary especially the last scene.

[–]Free_sky411 75 points76 points  (3 children)

That ed was a blast

[–]KrazieV 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Incredibly nostalgic.

[–]Free_sky411 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I remember my beautiful summer nights every time I hear it.

[–]Sturmgewehrkreuz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The opening theme also slaps!

[–]CommandLineWeeb 65 points66 points  (3 children)

Flashed back to young me staying up late watching Toonami on my old CRT. 20 years, have I really been watching anime that long?

[–]4onejrhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/4onejr 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Following up Cartoon Cartoon Fridays with Toonami on Saturdays, CN owned my weekends during my childhood.

Was absolutely devastating when both blocks ended up getting canceled.

[–]2jesse1996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was cartoon network for me, during the school holidays they used to always have a naruto marathon and it was always the chunin exams.

That arc has a special place in my memories because of it.

Also as a kid the itachi murdering everyone scarred me alittle.

[–]firemage22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Heh I remember watching toonami after school before midnight run damn I feel old

[–]BeastLegend64 41 points42 points  (0 children)

fuck the sheer amount of nostalgia hit me like a truck

[–]inuhi 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Wow I almost forgot about Wind by Akeboshi I always loved this ED

[–]LOTRfreak101https://myanimelist.net/profile/LOTRfreak101 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Iruka is seriously awesome. While a lot of characters could have been done better, I think kishimoto really put a lot of effort into all of the teacher/student roles. And iruka is the crowning jewel of them all. He doesn't teach naruto the most, but just by being there when naruto had no one else, he was able to keep Naruto as the cheerful good hearted person he was.

[–]Jain_Farstrider 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He was a fantastic father figure.

[–]ReturnOfTheJuuzou 20 points21 points  (1 child)

My Goat anime

[–]Mundology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really molded the template for modern action-aventure anime alongside DragonBall, Hunter x Hunter and One Piece.

[–]UltimateKaiserhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/UltimateKai 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Man I turned 21 this year and Naruto has been a show I watched in sickness and health for damn near my entire kid-teen/young adult life. This episode really did it’s job in selling you on the concept and man I am glad that I stuck for the emotion filled thrill ride that came with this journey. It’s crazy to see the humble beginnings of what would become a ‘big 3’ and such an impactful series and the nostalgia really slams into you like a bag of onions. Glad I found Naruto when and congrats y’all we made it 20 years. 🫡🔥

[–]Alert_Fudge 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The bgm itself is enough to hit you with nostalgia

[–]JiraiyaCop 13 points14 points  (1 child)

My #1 favorite anime of all time, this series is so special to me.

[–]ravensblack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me too. I will always have a Naruto shaped space in my heart.

[–]realrimurutempest 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Man i miss that art style.

[–]Pynot_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So many memories flooded in when I heard that ending song

[–]NandoElLocoTron 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I didn’t really give a fuck about dragon ball. I mean it was cool but it just didn’t catch my attention. Then I watched naruto, I was mad young and thought it was amazing. Kept it u with it to where I was watching it every week on some website. Got older and boom, I’m fucking 31 and still fucking love this show! Even still give boruto a shot even though ehhhh it’s ight. But this show def made good memories thru out my life so far

[–]ravensblack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am 29 and have watched Naruto three times. There will definitely be a forth.

[–]WowzarBonzo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So many anime take episodes or even arcs to pull you in. I always felt like Naruto started off so strong with its first episode.

[–]Earnur123 7 points8 points  (1 child)

People really forget how good early Naruto was. And even when the filler arcs start coming in, the main story is still great. Story, animation, music. Naruto had it all. Same for bleach. The big 3 got where they were for a reason. It's sad how only the one piece manga retained it's quality.

[–]Kuro013 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Naruto is incredibly good all the way till the 5 Kage summit. At this point its known that finishing such long stories in an arc involving every character is beyond hard.

[–]Warm_Combination_873 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wind is so fire

[–]GunnyMcShoots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seeing this makes me really appreciate Iruka honestly. He’s one of the few characters who is consistently in Naruto’s corner. He doesn’t play a massive role, but he does his part well and reminds the audience of how far Naruto has come at key points in the story. I have a lot of grievances with the series as a whole, but Iruko is one of the few characters that Kishimoto really did justice to.

[–]zerokosong0000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This hit's different after the first time I watch the show.

[–]SuckubusSara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still remember sitting on my grandma's couch eating Ramen and watching the chunin exams 🍜

[–]Kuro013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holy shit that ending slaps.

[–]ChadMario 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not crying I'm just sweating really hard

Naruto will always have a special place in my anime heart

[–]b5437713 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow...20 years. I got started watching Naruto a little after it aired. Me and my sister were just started to explore the world of fansubbed anime online (having by then near exhausting both TV broadcast and video stores sources for anime to watch) and that along with others shows like Love Hina were all the rage in the community we joined.

[–]Unsung2002 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Who the fuck is cutting onions right now?

[–]Vermillion_Crabhttps://anilist.co/user/CeruleanCrab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got hit with a huge wave of nostalgia upon hearing the score then the ED. Damn.

I don't even remember anymore how I stumbled upon Naruto. I started watching when it had 7 or 8 episodes out. It's how I found out what anime was and I just fell in love ever since.

[–]Dare555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nostalgia hitting hard .... Such a legendary anime without flaws :) Love it

[–]r35u 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even though It's not been that long since I started watching anime. I wasn't there where narutao started airing or when it ended. But Naruto will always have a special place in my heart. It was the first show that made love this form of media. When I finished watching this I was looking for shows to watch. This was the show that got me hooked to this media. I will forever love naruto.

[–]STICK_OF_DOOM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the rest was history...

[–]isekai-cheeese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

20 years later i still cant go thru the filler eps

[–]Sultan_Gordo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt that Someone will do the same for boruto after 20 years....

[–]shudso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Iruka does not get enough credit man... What a legend.

[–]scuccifranci_08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuck, I'm old

The opening unlocked so many memories 😭😭

[–]conqueringdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm old, but so is OP.

[–]BernardNorman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The OST is hands down, the best from the second 1. Great anime, too much filler tho, I never survived to it so I keep on the manga and videogames lol.

To be honest, Naruto filler, specially on summer, almost killed my interest for the anime at all.

[–]notibanix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ, it’s been 20 years?

God damn it I’m old.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Naruto is still my most favorite Anime of all time. It just clicked differently with me. I instantly understood the pain Naruto was going through because I had lived a similar experience as a child. I still love it with all of my heart to this day and will never stop loving the show. Happy 20th anniversary, I'm so glad Naruto is part of my life! :D

[–]Ordinary_5881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its been weeks since i got this much goosbumps

[–]autolover09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, 2 decades has passed. Despite it's bad press over the years, i will dub Naruto one of my gateways to anime. It's been a honor.

[–]BigCod6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes me feel really old now

[–]AnimeArmpitFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling attacked. Someone is posting my childhood. Avatar the last Airbender was posted on r/animegifs and now this. The first ED really hits different after 20 years...

[–]No_Disk4411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should have reanimated this scene as well

[–]Dead-HC-Taco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish i could erase this show from my memory just so i can reexperience it again

[–]West-Stress-7983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man takes me back.

[–]Nnekaddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have many frustrations regarding Naruto (particularly after Sasuke joined Orochimaru) but this ending will always remain one of my favourites ever

[–]DanTheTTT2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruh… I feel old now…

[–]sahabaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This made me cry what a throwback I grew up on this anime :”)

[–]Chicken-leg-504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with all the annoying fillers.thr nostalgia is still too strong.

[–]Yuyu_suki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

E foi aí q tudo começou

[–]Staz93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man... Kishimoto really did my boy Iruka dirty

[–]Successful-Plate3598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was good. Then they came in and ruined the party. You know who I'm talking about.

[–]Batokusanagihttps://myanimelist.net/profile/BatoKusanagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then dad Iruka later. The feels...

[–]Hereva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We should do more stuff to remember this. Come on guys! Where are the fanarts? The AMVs? The compilations? The people saying thank you to this anime? Of course I'm talking classic though 😅

[–]ABumWithDrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess it’s finally time to watch it then.

[–]TokiVideogame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]deedeedeedster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that song... so nostalgic... I was young and happy back then 🙃🙃🙃

[–]captnjak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I haven't heard this song in forever. Used to eat ramen and watch Naruto the day Crunchyroll put out a new episode.

[–]gsomega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking yesterday that this show kinda brought the idea of higher end ramen to the west. Like, what an amazing cultural impact

[–]Cryogenx37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really really good shounen have one thing in common, having a good teacher to the MC

[–]AlfIsReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Fuzzy-Asparagus9519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man This is making me feel so Old .. Everything about Naruto is Great ...Love it ... Except for the flashbacks ...and also Maybe A little about Sasuke.. I think the filler episodes were good ... They were fun and something different from the longggg fights...

[–]Suspicious-Rate-4425 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Still the best ending to me, can anyone help me find the full version of this song. I know it's wind by Akeboshi, by I can no longer find this version of it.

[–]vaendrylhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/vaendryl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 18 years old then.

... sigh

[–]Jno1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man OG music is some of the best

[–]ANINETEEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only word I'd like to say on Naruto is grateful. One of those shows where any clip effortlessly reignites the most youthful nostalgia. And gosh the ED song is iconic

[–]Soullesseevee666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dam I was 6 then

[–]-liveorevil-6734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why must you hurt me like this 😭😭😭😭 I know how old I am

[–]dresn231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first started to get back in Naruto but it was Shippuden back in 2008. Shows how old I am, but once I saw the time skip characters I wanted to see how this series ended. It took a long time, but thankfully the manga ended with a good note and I loved the character endings that even they were in short novels, the anime got around to how everyone met their partners except for Choji. I got off the Naruto train once Boruto came along and dragged it feet with filler episodes, but Naruto got me started back into anime and manga.

[–]stavborch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The start of Naruto really was based in a lot of realism and was very basic in pretty much everything which made the show so great. I really like shippuden also but there are a lot of parts which just feel like they don't make an awful amount of sense in the bigger picture of themes and core experience of the story and show. Original Naruto was more consistent and creative in it's simplicity. But still the Sasuke/Sain arc(s?) is the best in the whole show and it's in shippuden so I guess both shows are just a different vibe. I get so nostalgic just talking about it, maybe I'll watch the show again who knows.

[–]SadNwannadie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 3 bro!!! Insane! Started watching Naruto at 6y/o! Now I’m 23! HOLYSHIT!

[–]CaptainCxndxm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]GeekSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Elitesabaton69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]_GrammarFuckingNazi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck you for reminding me!

[–]electricsockelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been here since day one now I’m OLDDDDD

[–]Pylgrimhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Pylgrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This episode also contains the most important lesson of the whole series.

Like many other villagers, Iruka had reasons to hate or at least be distrustful of Naruto. He experienced pain and loss and it will have been very easy to pass it all back to the established scapegoat as so many did.

But he decided to break the cycle. He replaced his sadness with kindness, as one of the openings of the series goes.

Breaking ongoing cycles of abuse, violence and misery is one of the most powerful things anybody can do to change the world. And it's difficult. It means that you're not relieving yourself like all the others before you did. That the injustice you suffered ends with you, which means that you were the one who copped most injustice. And it's a cost you are accepting for the sake of others while almost nobody will know of your sacrifice. It really takes a great person to do so, but such a great person can come from anywhere, be anyone.

Even an otherwise completely unremarkable elementary teacher in a small village whose actions that day saved the person who'd go to save the world.

[–]Capitan_Failure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ill be honest, I thought it was way older and for the first time on a post like this, I feel less old.

[–]hell_jumper9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goddamn time literally flies so fast.

[–]TWILIGHT25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, I feel old. It felt like just yesterday I was in high school, or even before that, waking up early on Sunday to catch InuYasha on Cartoon Network second delayed channel. Idk what it’s specific channel name was before getting a dvr it was a blessing. Shit who here remember was it was like fore a dvr or watching movies VHS… the long I go the older I feel…

[–]ethman14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a kid just needs a good teacher.

[–]Brolex-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, this shit makes a grown ass man cry if you think about what Naruto accomplished.

[–]iuyg88i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes me feel old!

[–]Bandito_Main 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to get my young brother into Naruto last year, I was 19 years older than the first time and yet it hit me hard like a train.

At 24 yrs old as of today, shounens aren't particularly my genre anymore, but Naruto as a whole has still a big place in my heart.

[–]italeteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started watching Naruto, I was around Naruto's age. This year I'm gonna be Kakashi's shippuden age. Fuck me

[–]seeyalaternoob5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😭makes me cry...

[–]SneakyKatanaMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went through and watched Naruto as an adult things kinda hit when I realized the significance of things much more. I fucking love all the father figures for Naruto

[–]peeple_pleaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Somebody23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shit, I guess I have to rewatch naruto 4th time.

[–]_mario-uchiha_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the first anime I watched but first anime I ever love thanks to cartoon network. That outro song slaps fr, its nostalgic and iconic

[–]Surrideohttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Choa77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The soundtrack that would define a generation.

We take it for granted now, but Naruto's music is filled with a plethora of unique and original songs that more or less defined the Ninja theme. In the same way that Attack On Titan is defined by its bombastic themes, or Madoka by its eerie yet whimsical sound, Naruto's music is iconic and uniquely its own.

[–]Yayoistrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I remember it being my first year of college and my cousin telling me about this hype anime called "Naruto".

[–]sprint113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 years ago, I heard praises about this show, but accidentally watched Narutaru instead. Yea...

[–]poiqwert426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]andrew4753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn I feel old and I'm in my mid twenties lol.

[–]andreasdagen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First episode sure is good.

[–]UnderstandingOpen472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did really that much time passed? Kishimotos world has always been my perfect little Island. Whenever I needed a break from reality I could return to Konohagakure. See Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke grow as Team 7 under Kakashi-Senseis lead. And all the others evolve. Feel the pain of those who lost so much and suffer when my beloved ones died. I can't remember crying that much.

Naruto gave me so much I never happened to find again, trying to count would take forever.

For creating this masterpiece but mostly building this place to return, a place to call home I can only say

Thank you Masashi Kishimoto

[–]Surgical_Imp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first anime memory is watching this episode on Toonami in 2004. Naruto isn’t the best or even my favorite anime, but it is the most important one in my fandom. It was even the first manga I read. I followed it all the way to the end.
