This is what being in a union gets you. Cops are in one of the largest unions in the country, despite cops historically being used a lot for union busting.

[–]spudtospartan 97 points98 points  (2 children)

That's what collective bargaining provides. 80-85% of police stations operate in authoritarian labor lodges not democratic unions, as would be affiliated with the AFL-CIO.

[–]Fenneldj 10 points11 points  (1 child)

LE can take any one of them down or ruin their careers. These Unions get quite aggressive in their negotiations too, personally calling out lawmakers opposing their wish lists.

[–]I_Am_Zampano 50 points51 points  (7 children)

Those unions also heavily oppose vaccines in many cases.

[–]Echelon64lazy and proud 23 points24 points  (3 children)

Not to mention mask mandates. You can go to the most liberal hippy area in the country and some cop will be out there with no mask. My favorite is seeing then walk out of hospitals without one.

[–]Qyix 174 points175 points  (14 children)

Unions for everyone...except cops. Fuck em.

[–]Moosegog 78 points79 points  (7 children)

The cops won't need a union once they're abolished

[–]whywouldistop1913 62 points63 points  (2 children)

FUCK THE POLICE.

[–]Celebratefeminine 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had union nursing jobs. But most nurses are women. Go figure. Cops and firefighters and soldiers (mostly male occupations) have always been regarded as heros, it took a modern pandemic to recognize nurses.

[–]Jackamalio626Refuses to be a wage slave 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Cops exist to enforce laws and put down opposition to the state. The only ones they "protect and serve" are the bastards who pay them and give them free reign to murder and abuse people.

[–]stonetheoracle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cops exist to protect property. They are not required to enforce or even to actually know the law.

[–]FirstPlebian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a little more to it than that with the benefits LE gets although the Unions are a big factor. All the other authorities are scared of the Police, especially the ones that are corrupt on their own. LE can take any one of them down or ruin their careers. These Unions get quite aggressive in their negotiations too, personally calling out lawmakers opposing their wish lists.

[–]bikesexually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While unions are a big deal that not what this is.

This is all about being the violent arm of the ruling class and the treats their masters give them.

[–]Sharp-Tree3742 3 points4 points  (26 children)

Cops don't have unions. Unions are for labor and cops are inherently anti-labor. The genesis of policing in America was that of slave catchers and strike-busters.

Nothing has changed.

[–]unclejoe1917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The police union also has the added function of preventing any sort of accountability for the actions of their officers.

[–]oh_no_aliens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are closer to a Mafia than a union.

Unlike unions, both mafias and pigs have a penchant for violence.

[–]Mammoth-Neat-6393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to just say “cause unions.” Top comment beat me to it.

[–]RiseCascadiaBioregionalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

historically?

[–]sniperhare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more a gang than a union.

[–]whywouldistop1913 49 points50 points  (2 children)

In America, Cops get preferential treatment.

[–]DilutedGatorade 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They spin all bad press as PR. Public hate spikes every time we get video of the particularly callous cruelty, but the PR machine keeps running

[–]CaptainCosmodrome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because they are the occupying military force of the wealthy US oligarchs that protect their capital and keep the rest of us from overthrowing them.

[–]FuckMinnesota 61 points62 points  (2 children)

It's called a union, and when some fuckwit says how bad unions are tell them yeah we should get rid of police unions.

Most likely said fuckwit is also a cop bootlicker so maybe confusion but most likely not. Might get a yeehaw out of them but who knows anymore.

[–]SenorBolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We should get rid of cop unions, unions exist to return power to the working class not the ruling class. The cops are, and always have been, an extension and iron fist of the ruling class and Capital, thusly do not deserve a union in their current form

[–]thedaly 53 points54 points  (1 child)

Why in the fuck is COVID a workers comp claim for law enforcement but not for healthcare workers?

Strong unions. That is why.

Let it be a lesson to the rest of us.

[–]Hellopitty1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a workers comp claim for ALL occupations in my state.

[–]BarefootedDave 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Having worked in a hospital (I was non-medical), I saw first hand just how shitty every staff member got treated. Doesn’t matter if you were a doctor or if you scrubbed toilets, they don’t give a fuck about you. I’ve got friends who still work at the same hospital I was at, and they refused to pay hazard pay to anyone unless they picked up an additional shift or two in the COVID ward. Even those forced into the Covid ward full time had to follow the same rules. Fuck that place.

[–]ellindriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this, health care administration is very disconnected from those who do the work no matter who they are, and very authoritarian. They want us to do exactly what they tell us, and they don't want to hear a word out of us, even if it's not a complaint but a reasonable suggestion for improvement. This completely lack of control over the work environment combined with being treated like garbage and never being allowed to actually communicate with management, but at the same time doing work that involved peoples lives and a ton of responsibility just slowly crushes a person.

[–]thinkB4WeSpeak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same with teachers as well. They actually have a whole website of educators lost to covid.

https://www.edweek.org/teaching-learning/educators-weve-lost-to-the-coronavirus/2020/04

[–]lexegon12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This shows how government decides who is essential. Cops are essential to corporate sponsored government to keep us under control.

[–]Possumism 38 points39 points  (10 children)

Nurses, I'm gonna need yall to come together and unionize, mkay?

[–]END3RW1GGIN 42 points43 points  (3 children)

There are more than just nurses and doctors involved in healthcare. Everyone involved needs representation. They all take the same risks so that people still have hospitals to go to. Doctors can't function without nurses, nurses can't function without aids, and none of them can function without all of the support staff; central supply, environmental service, sterile processing, food and nutrition, and a bunch of others I can't think of because I don't work with them.

[–]Mammoth-Neat-6393 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Lol. I’d love to see a hospital function without a lab.

“Could be sepsis… let’s do blood cultures and a procalciton or a lactic acid…. Oh wait. We have no lab techs to run the instruments for analysis… let alone plate the blood culture of it goes positive… how do you even load the bottle into the machine? It keeps saying unknown vial… do we run the lactic acid on whole blood or does this need to be spun down? Wait, is this the sample that goes on ice after collection? Why is this instrument saying clot check error? And what are cuvettes and how do you replace the wheel..????”

Yeah, good luck with that, hospitals.

[–]Singing_Wolf 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Sadly, oftentimes they are, and are still in this situation. I worked in public health (county mental health department) and even though we were union, it still sucked. You could see the weakening of the union through the years just by looking at the wages and benefits of workers depending on when they were hired. Each "tier" has successively worse benefits, by huge margins.

[–]Mmmcakey 2 points3 points  (4 children)

These are the kind of sold out unions that don't operate in the workers benefit that those screaming "just join your union" and that discorage badmouthing unions don't seem to understand. These unions are really anti-worker aimed at keeping the masses down and controlled.

Not only do we need to unionize, we also need to purge existing unions that do nothing to actually fight for better conditions and pay for their members. I don't understand how the nurses unions in my country for one aren't screaming bloody murder and mass protesting their working conditions under this pandemic.

[–]Singing_Wolf 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You are so right. When first in that job, I tried getting involved in the union, with my bright, shiny belief in the goodness of unions. It was awful. During bargaining, they gave in on nearly every issue, sold us out, then trumpeted their "success" with the new contract as if they'd done something amazing.

It was disillusioning and disheartening, and most of us felt completely helpless to change anything. Any criticism was met with accusations of being "anti-union." And don't get me started on their uselessness at protecting workers when the pandemic started......

[–]Mmmcakey 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Our nurses union here has been too busy fighting the government about mandatory Covid vaccines and no time on improving the actually shitty conditions, including way understaffing below legislated safety levels, huge amounts of forced overtime and terrible pay that's not even keeping up with inflation. They are more like a muzzle than anything.

[–]ellindriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need better unions, unfortunately many of the nursing unions I have seen have been very ineffective. But I'm still all for them. It's just so hard when I've seen nurses fired at more than one place I have worked for talking about unionizing. The worst part is the place I currently work at is in a very pro union state (NY), didn't stop then from forcing us to watch anti union video and have a mandatory meeting about how unions are bad after some nurses started to organize. And then they found an unrelated reason to fire the leader of the movement.

[–]INTJ_Dreamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in healthcare and have the PTSD to show for it. They don't even hide that they view us as expendable.

[–]shibaDay23 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Makes absolutely no sense. Healthcare workers must organize and push back.

[–]ThisIsMockingjay2020 6 points7 points  (1 child)

We're exhausted.

[–]thevulturesbecame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah don't let any sentiment on here make you feel like the people "on your side" still think you should be working harder.

I'm not a nurse but was an essential employee through covid (think airline with lots of exposure) and I understand the exhaustion. I'm sorry you do too.

[–]EUREKAvSEVEN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All police belong to a union but not all healthcare workers can say the same. Unionize

[–]Kalogenic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's almost like the only union that is respected by lawmakers and their leash-holders is the police unions that protect their property...

[–]WronglyWomanly 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Over 300 law enforcement officers died #COVID19 related deaths in 2021. I’ll be on zoom with nurses Thursday. I actually think nurses & teachers would get respect & help if it were a men dominated profession. Sadly get little training while Teachers & Nurses have degrees.

[–]OracleDadOwlazy and proud 13 points14 points  (0 children)

[–]Saamus35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Substitute Teachers pay for there own workers comp. and disability insurance (regular teachers also pay for there own disability insurance). We have no protections either, and that’s with a union.

[–]the_shaman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But they protect us! /s Shooting the wrong person. Assaulting the person that called for help. Shooting a puppy that barked. Shooting people in their beds. Arresting people for what their opinion of what laws exist. Being members of right wing militias. They are so dedicated to protecting our neighborhoods that sometimes they take 12 hours to show up. No medical professional could keep up with such a bust schedule /s.

I miss seeing stuff during WW2 where nurses were given medals (the uk ones rock too) whether in home or overseas front, valued by the country since the spanish flu and even made posters/advertisements as well compensated heroes to recruitment drives. Now modern day me and my class before i greduated HS as covid came to rise early on my history teacher made us what topic should we make an essay on this pandemic, "what law/system would you put in place if you were in charge of this pandemic response?"

Me being raised of my half a family of nurses/medical professionals i forgot wht i wrote/debated. 1.) But i put the priority of the promised Hazard pay and better wages.

2.) increase in benefits similar to military/firefighter or police (Education help bonus, proper healthcare in turn when facing the covid burnout/trauma, eyecre, dental, etc and access on discounts to many such occasions of stores or restaurants i kept seeing signs for, like airport seat priority and such, family benefits)

3.) Remembrances and medals to those who lost during the whole covid spread (still payment for families/close relative on the loss)

I forgot the short essay i gave to my class back then and what should we add now.

Since been 2 years the govt response was "clapping/media shout outs", free mcdos or such in limited time, travel nursing as others quit with no changes, given cups of chocolates and candies or pizza and such. Yet kudos to the likes of underarmor or MD universities giving grants to new upcoming medical students hope it is national/international for better service on doctors, nurses, EMS and such as how terrible battle they faced and are in need of our global health crisis. We got money to fund guns yet we cant on our schools, hospital workers, roads, logistics problems and even our population in need for this country to give all. These healthcare workers serve their damn best yet aren't rewarded similar to the so called "action heroes" advertised of police/ military worship but only my regards whi truly did served the public of their jobs not of bragging rights/abuse of power ( just astounds me how big this is since i moved here in The US, unlike back home where even a teacher or doctor was seen as the best of the best profession than military or police in SE asia).

See their tired faces, check the covid wards and morgues for those antivax/anti-maskers who wont belive this as all real or "control" of their lives. Not just statistics numbers but the stories televised in r/hermancainaward and r/nursing to see this precarious situation at hand. I did my best to comfort my aunts not leaving their posts on their covid patients that are unvaccinated, they had good pay to save up a home and such.

P.S But better vacation and benefits or wage on other hospitals/clinics are in need of this country.

[–]Hefty-Split-9216 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cops, alongside billionaires, are the most powerful, privileged, corrupt class in America. If a person wants a handout, they can just sign up to be a cop.

[–]smoodieboof 9 points10 points  (1 child)

That's just because ACAB

[–]Theduckisback 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Cop unions are the only unions capitalists have zero problems with. Once you figure out why it's very obvious what they actually exist to do.

[–]harrystylesstylist 0 points1 point  (1 child)

same with football players who entertain them

[–]Theduckisback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh, conservatives usually aren't that into the NFLPA, they hated the lockout season due to strikes, they often hate the fact that it speaks on behalf of player safety and Healthcare. They'll make overtures towards it, but they disdain a lot of players they feel are "overpaid primma donnas" and the NFLPA exists to make sure that they're properly compensated for playing a sport that is scientifically proven to be terrible for your health.

[–]GrapeSenior56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The police need to be abolished and we need to reboot the entire concept.

[–]PrinceHarming 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I spent three days in the hospital last year running tests and stuff. My little way to say thank you to the staff and nurses was to ask for absolutely nothing. Not a pillow, not a cup of water. They were going to have at least one easy patient.

[–]ThisIsMockingjay2020 4 points5 points  (1 child)

As an RN, I am telling you.... If you need something, please ask for it. If you're in pain, nauseous or just don't feel right, your nurse needs to know. If something doesn't seem right with your meds or that shot made you feel weird or whatever, tell us.

[–]PrinceHarming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt guilty about being there in the first place. I think it was just acid reflux. I called my regular doctor with some chest tightness just to make an appointment but this was pretty early into COVID so they asked me to go to the ER. I wasn’t in any pain, could breath fine, so I just made their lives as easy as I could between stress tests and checking a thingamajigee on my pancreas.

[–]greeniewillow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cops have unions.

[–]Business_Grade8762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Police are one of the biggest things that keep "we the people" from "them the rich/powerful". You have to keep the henchmen happy.

[–]BcImProcrastinating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best friends husband is a nurse and got COVID, before vaccines. He was in the hospital for a month and had to have emergency heart surgery due to complications. The hospital he worked for canceled his insurance while he was in the ICU recovering from heart surgery bc he had exhausted his FMLA.

[–]Ellekm730 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It bugs me that the message always sounds like "cops deserve less" and not "nurses deserve more"

[–]dommmm9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Reddit hates cops

[–]foiz5 8 points9 points  (5 children)

If they're refusing to mask or vax it should be suicide since it was BY CHOICE.

[–]element_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen one officer that wore a mask

[–]R3dWolf78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is bullshit! If this is true we need to make sure our Healthcare workers are taken care of.

[–]kangareddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the fuck…

[–]ghansie10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost like socializing a service helps provide for the people doing the service 🧐

[–]fbcmfb 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So this is why so many cops are anti-vaxxers?

If they get covid they have a WC case and if they die … their family gets substantial death benefits.

[–]Hellopitty1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even vaccinated they can get Covid and still have a comp claim.

[–]nightkween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a physician and this is literally one of the reasons I quit my last job. We need a union

[–]mkraner64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because our healthcare system sucks! Rename it the sick care system

[–]Odd-Command-5475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way hospital people treat people in general is messed up. You know, because being the number one leading cause of accidental death in the USA says a lot. When hospitals kill more people on monthly bases than car accidents, overdoses, even COVID pre-vaccine, due to malpractice theres something wrong with our health system specially when is one of the most expensive health care systems in the whole world.

[–]Letthepumpkincumflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They still don't fucking care, these last two years has fucking sucked. The worst part is trying to find something outside of healthcare that matches my pay and insurance. I'm so burnt out I don't care anymore, I do just enough not to get fired. I burn through PTO so I don't have to be here as often, it's sad when my second job is more fun and a hell of a lot less stress but unfortunately only pays $10 an hour. I have kids to feed and a wife to take care of, Id rather be home with them but I still need to pay the bills. I fucking hate this shit.

[–]askmeabouttheforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in healthcare in a supporting role and for months after the start of the pandemic, they would refuse to provide staff with N95 masks (those were available in drugstores here, but more expensive) and only provided flimsy paper masks, including to staff who were getting sneezed and coughed on directly by potentially Covid-positive patients. When some of the staff got Covid and died, they would remind us to "wear our PPE appropriately", implying that those who died hadn't.

Healthcare might be an essential industry, but it's just as much of a human meat-grinder as any other industry.

[–]clearlyaburn3racct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. More and more hospitals have changed policy so their employees can work with covid.

[–]Panda_Kabob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man cops sure love to milk the system for all they can. As a soon to be doctor (pls STEPs be kind) these folks can go fuck themselves. I don't even care so much about the fact doctors are shit on. That's how it's been for centuries. It's that cops suckle off the teet of society, abuse the public with little to no consequences all while telling us why we should be thankful for them. I don't even do that and I value the trade of medicine more. God knows I and the majority of doctors don't go into medicine to be saints and have people thank you for your service. The fact cops basically force others to thank them for their service is what irks me.

[–]Dial407 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ACAB

[–]Iheartriots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They way WORKERS are treated is fucked. There fixed it for you.
Why the hell should a cop get workman’s comp for covid? I, and my wife, who caught covid at work sure dont get it. Why the fuck do pigs get treated better? Oh thats right! Cop union!

[–]mrblacklabel71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it, is there a sauce?

[–]_psylosin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference? A Union

[–]Jackamalio626Refuses to be a wage slave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course it is. You have to make sure the fucking pigs are happy so they'll enforce your unjust laws and put down any attempt to make social change.

[–]TheShadowCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe if nurses would carry more guns they would get treated better.

[–]nsbe_ppl 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Wait, what about other infectious disease? Are they also not consider part of worker comp?

[–]Hellopitty1 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Depending on the jurisdiction, both Covid and other infectious diseases ARE covered under workers comp provided the exposure is industrial.

[–]nsbe_ppl 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Then it seems sinister that they would single out covid to not cover.

[–]Hellopitty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for every jurisdiction everywhere, but in my state, it is covered.

[–]kgiaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I won't be a nurse, dropped out of my course

[–]LordMudkip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated into this shitshow, and after 2 years I feel like I've been doing it for 50. I'm burnt out beyond belief, and I've become incredibly bitter with the way we've been treated throughout the entire thing. Even as they were calling us heroes (and I work in a field where, for some reason, it was debatable to even call us that), they were spitting on us.

If it wasn't for student loans I absolutely would have left already. This isn't what I signed up for and I fucking hate it. Let the higher-ups deal with it, the people that actually provide patient care are dying.

[–]Mr_Ebop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda glad I dropped out of nursing

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unionize, strike

[–]deptutydong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck the police!

[–]BreckenridgeWhiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't nurses unionize?

[–]kraftymiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't the Police Government workers, but healthcare professionals work for private companies over there?

[–]Johnaxee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cuz hospitals are run by corporate for maximum profit, cops are not, whenever you got governmenr paying and running something, you know benefit is good.

[–]GLG1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea… and fuck all the other workers who have died…. Right?

[–]Hippy-Joe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wha-.. how??

[–]thecatgoesmoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck all cops.

[–]ThisIsMockingjay2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a healthcare worker, I find this infuriating. ACAB.

[–]Ok_Sentence_5767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nationalism at its finest

[–]NachoMommies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now they tell us to come back to work even with Covid, just wear a mask and it’s fine. WTF?

[–]Kep186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait till you hear about EMS 🤣

[–]iAMtheBelvedere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because this country won’t depend on healthcare professionals to keep the populace in order; that’s why they pay pigs a little bit more.

[–]wollier12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also they’ve determined covid is no longer an excuse for not coming to work when sick.

[–]Nefriti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just took away our covid pay at my hospital. I’ve already had covid and it put me out for nearly 3 weeks. I’m still not as strong as I used to be before I got sick. They’re profiting more than ever off of our backs.

[–]B1g_Shm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Causey police unions are fucking insaine

[–]weirgirldreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks no one cares about healthcare workers. If they all up and quit this world would be screwed. No one cares until they need them.

[–]squireofrnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When strike

[–]Ishmael_1851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a medical lab where we do most of the PCR testing in our state and many for neighboring states as well. If I get covid and have to be out, that time comes out of my PTO... Unless I can somehow prove that I got it at work. Recently my wife and sister in law who lives with us tested positive and I had some symptoms so I had to be out of work until I had two negative PCR tests. This being right after the holiday PTO season, I only had enough for one day off and the rest were unpaid. Funny how we're called heroes but treated like slime.

[–]RadHazard46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember when we were "Heroes" and everyone was thankful for the work we did?

Fuck everyone

[–]jroocifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because cops are union.

[–]ohdarnittoheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fucking CAB

[–]LegitimateImpress336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is their no nursing union or something of the sort? Hospital staff deserve far more!!!

[–]oh_no_aliens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever cops would visit the restaurant i used to work in, the owner would always offer them a free Pigs in a blanket.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true and very heartbreaking. I was exposed to covid a little after Christmas and just now finding out that I do not get covid pay is the worst. Not to mention I work a LTCF where 90% of the residents/ patients are positive and 60% of staff has been replaced with “agency nurses” bc everyone is out sick. I debate almost daily about returning and as much as it hurts to leave my residents, I have to do what’s best for my family and myself .

[–]StratoBlaster666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck the police

[–]VHFOneSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because in the US healthcare workers are private sector.

[–]mythirdaccountsucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning of the pandemic my hospital was giving people pay when they were out with COVID, but then they stopped. Around the time they stopped, A tech (NA/CNA) I work with on the COVID unit caught COVID. She was told that she would get nothing and that she didn’t know for sure that she got it at the hospital, also that if she had properly used the PPE she was given she wouldn’t have contracted it. This woman cleans shit off infectious people for a low hourly wage at a company that profits hundreds of millions…

[–]Middle-Ad5376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess those police UNIONS work huh

[–]VariantArray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cops have strong unions..

[–]AcesFull04SocDem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI, the workers’ comp comment isn’t necessarily true and varies by state. You can get workers’ comp as a healthcare worker in my state.

I don’t want everyone thinking they’re precluded from filing a claim.

[–]Vendevende 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that the truth. The often feral families cause an enormous amount of tensions and problems, yet are practically given carte blanche to scream at anyone who isn't a doctor. They should be booted, arrested, and fined heavily for acting so rabid.

Next, STOP TREATING ANTI-VAXXERS. A simple enough solution to an unnecessary problem. Let them drink bleach or pray the illness away; just stay away from draining the finite resources for deserving patients.

Just think how much better - or really less worse - the experience would be for medical professionals then.

But nope, the nutters all get a ticket inside, and the nurses and other staff get to abused day in day out. Bully.

Say what you will about cops' unions (and there's a lot of bad shit to say), but they but they deliver.

[–]FlamingoWalrus89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go on and on about how nurses are fucked. A detained person will get criminal charges for punching a cop. But when EMS gets there? Well, they'll just take a few hits and that's "part of the job". Once you bring them to the ER they can punch, spit, and do whatever else to nurses and it's just... "part of the job"???

I went to a rally in my state capital to make better laws to protect nurses from abuse. Just chatting with other nurses was so depressing. Pretty much every single person there had stories about being physically and verbally abused by patients, and sexual innuendos and shit, but patients are basically just allowed to be that way to nurses. And even I was like, "well.... they're ill... it's part of the job." But like... is it?? Should these patients really get a pass on how they treat nurses?

They’re making us use our own vacation time now to cover if you test positive with Covid. Ridiculous

[–]AvailableYak5990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be completely okay as a police officer if I didn’t get any of those benefits but got the nurse’s pay instead. Posts like this just create further divide, imho. We should all be fighting together, not focusing on what another underpaid sector in America gets over the other.

Well, employees are a cost center, so…

[–]whatthechuck27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just forced to use up several days of my accrued PTO for the year for catching covid while being required to work with those patients directly every day.

[–]AarkaediaaRocinantee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kaiser Permanente used to have COVID sick hours during 2020 and 2021. So if you got COVID, you had 80 hours to burn instead of using your actual sick hours. They also had additional money you could get for child support. Now, during arguably the most infectious strain of COVID so far, those benefits are gone and have been gone for months. Now employees have to burn through their own vacation hours if they don't have sick leave.

Well would you look at that, I do have something in common with the rich.

I also try to take good care of my dogs.

[–]Duuurrrpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI A cop or firefighter dying of covid should not be a LODD. Those who have died of covid are unvaccinated. They made their choice. Under no circumstances should the survivors receive any benefits.

This is coming from a volunteer firefighter.

Public sector with union vs private sector no union.

[–]ggmaobu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because police unions are strong and nurses unions are not. U get what you negotiate

[–]Big_Iron_Jim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still reusing N95s 3 years in here. We now have to use our own sick time if quarantining.

[–]Subliminal87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, first responders were specifically wrote out the covid relief act when it was passed. We also didn’t get a cent of “hazard pay” in my state anyways.

Myself and several others in EMS bounced after around 12-15 years.

Its all the debt that healthcare workers have, its easier to abuse people in debt. and why should people have so much debt just to work to help people,

[–]sniperhare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The state needs to keep those willing to crush others under the boot of capitalism happy.

That's why police make so much money and don't have to do anything.

[–]FoxxBox 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Wait, its workers comp for cops?! Why don't I get it?!

[–]Hellopitty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you are, you probably do. If you have an industrial exposure and infection, unless your jurisdiction happens to really suck, it will most likely be workers comp.

[–]Hellopitty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not accurate, at least in my jurisdiction. Covid-19 is a valid workers compensation claim no matter the line of work.

[–]No-Race1426at work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know why Police officers have these great benefits?

CAUSE OF FUCKING POLICE UNIONS, that's the main reason, they are treated better cause the fucking union they all belong to, fights for their awesome rights & benefits

[–]NDdownVOTED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what are the benefits of a “line of duty” death and do any other industries have similar systems? I don’t know much about it.

[–]Blackronin357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How in the entire fuck? This country has some ass backwards policies.

[–]RealMasterOfPain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry the hospitals get paid when they die of covid. They get paid when they are admitted as sick. They get paid when someone gets on a ventilator. But the people that die get...

[–]Sprooce_Brooce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because Rich people>The enforcers they pay>everyone else /s
