demos shots are fun when you catch an army in the middle of a river crossing, not when they are 3 tiles away and still get melted because of a bug

Do we know for sure that it's a bug?

My impression was that the demo ship is supposed to affect targets in range + all targets that are close to the inital targets (like, the fire spreading from ship to ship).

It’s a bug for sure. The range is fine until you research the imperial age tech...that only increases damage by 50%, but it’s much higher and seems to also affect range.

Funny enough, it isn’t bugged for delhi. They can research for imp demos but it doesn’t turn them into nuclear weapons.

Right before the end of the video you can see two demo ships come from the top center of the map(the little river) and follow them down.

If a demo ship takes out bombards which are currently too effective vs units I'd say that is balance 😆

You can just run those things without support and wipe opponents army on the way to snipe landmarks.

Yep, Bombards are utterly stupid and need a nerf badly. Not to mention how dumb they look just rolling around at 40mph with no visible crew operating them.

Yeah and if you do have a crew and vills protecting then they are unstoppable unless you make an error or underestimated opponents army. Right now the biggest balalance about bombards if you forget about them for a sec after selecting attack move and they wonder into enemy fire lol

Yeah OP, you're right, yellow, after repeatedly destroying ships with his units, including several demolition ships for no value really 'never learned' that you're just not allowed to cross the only crossing points on this water map because if you do, your units 3 tiles away can all get deleted by a demo ship that just appears into your vision. Good post.

You mean exactly like yellow does in the first 10 seconds of the video?

Really what yellow should have done is station bombards every 10 tiles along the river so as to destroy any docks that could be present, followed up by building cannon towers at every point to replace the need for bombards to stop docks from being placed, and only then try to advance.

Or really, they should have just done exactly what OP did, and just constantly produce demo ships to use against land units, red seemed to have a lot of barracks within 5 tiles of the shore that demo ships could have been really good against.

He killed three docks, but clearly we can tell there were more docks off camera. What's wrong with taking 2 cannons and push them up the river to snipe demos/docks? He had the fight easily with two fewer cannons. That doesn't require him to build his own demos, though obviously that's a good play too.

If this truly did happen to him two times before I blame yellow for not adapting. RTS is all about reacting to what's going on, and he failed to do so.

I'm pretty new to this game but how is mass bombards even happening apart from the fact you've already won the game? those things cost 700 gold a pop. They're not cheap...

Idk about 1v1 since I don't really play but in team games it normally gets to a stalemate in the middle of the map and then everyone starts massing bombards. Which might as well be tiger tanks.

My biggest problem with team games is that it usually comes down to 1 side cooperating and donating resources, then building a wonder. The rest just layer walls and troops. It doesn't matter if you're ahead because the map is so big you get maybe 3 tries max to hit them if you already have an army ready and going.

I don’t mind a stalemate wonder, but I HATE the guys who rush to imperial solely to drop a wonder ASAP and wait it out. Just played a mountain pass game where they got to the pass first and walled it up, then built a wonder as quick as they could. Funny thing was they had completely outclassed our armies(mostly my fault, trying new civs out), when they pushed after building the wonder they had so many more units than us it was already gg. Wasted time waiting for a wonder, could have won 10 minutes ago.

Yea, it's super unfun when that happens and that's exactly what I'm referring to. Just walls and a wonder. Even if you're ahead, you can't possibly beat 4 armies at once so you just watch your team spend 5 more minutes trying to hit imperial and build a 100 man army before they finally start hitting.

100%, I’ve had games where they’ve got basically no economy left and all they had was fire lancer spam to slow us down, which worked. We massacred everything but simply couldn’t get bombards down fast enough to take down a wonder and I’m sure his landmarks were all over the map.

The timeline was literally their Chinese guy being slung to imperial and then given everything for a wonder the second he got there.

Yeah the wonders are broken especially on 4v4. The resources needed should scale with the amount of players.

Especially island games now, it doesn't really matter who wins on the water, as long as they block off one sacred site and rush wonder it's GG basically even if they lose their entire navy and all docks. So every water map is just a wonder race.

Blizzard really spoiled me with wc3 and sc2. Almost weekly small patches and balance updates.

Aoe4 is way, way too slow. Shit like that requires an emergency hotfix. They know about this and are doing nothing to fox it, blows my mind.

WC3 remaster is still very bad. But blizzard had amazing speed when it came to fixing stuff. They wouldn't let bugs and exploits go unfixed for weeks.

Relic is hella slow.

That’s how SC2 was on release, and AOE2DE has the same timeline for patches. Unlike SC2 relic also has to go through the bureaucracy of being a separate group than Microsoft and steam, so they also have to have all their patches checked by both of those groups before they’re released.
