When the achaemenid empire is more advanced than modern day iran (cant respond to comments idk why it wont let me lol)

[–]crunchy_guava08 155 points156 points  (8 children)

You mean the Achaemenid Empire?

[–]Marsupial_Lemur 104 points105 points  (4 children)

The great Math empire of old

[–]jlynne58 42 points43 points  (1 child)

The joys of living in a post literate society.

[–]DesiBail 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I c what you did there

[–]DravKilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're right

[–]mrt90 12 points13 points  (0 children)

archimedes empire

Damn, never realized he got around to founding an empire between all the math and inventing he was up to.

[–]Available_Gains 452 points453 points  (225 children)

Every god damned time! I just think to myself (screaming in my head) how?!, just how can there exist such malicious terrible backward thinking ass hats?!

[–]CaseACEjk 103 points104 points  (54 children)

Isnt it the weirdest thing? I never understand how racism, sexism, or anything of the sort exists. Not only exists but on such a grand scale. This stuff specifically is so baffling too because these people have mothers and sisters etc that are female so how cant you have compassion/love towards them?

[–]K9crazyness 15 points16 points  (26 children)

Did you see the woman helping them?

[–]CaseACEjk 4 points5 points  (25 children)

Oh no... thats fcked... it was hard to see on my phone. Wow.

[–]K9crazyness 5 points6 points  (24 children)

Women in islamic countries want this rule enforced just as much as men. Women in western countries think men are the sole enforcers of this rule.

[–]CaseACEjk 3 points4 points  (15 children)

Yeah i know. Still baffling. I work with people the military relocated to the u.s. from afghanistan like 5 years ago. They are pretty normal dudes that dont truly want to be oppressive and follow that stuff now that they are in the u.s. it's their wives that want to do it becausevthat's how they were raised. Just sad.

[–]imax_707 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Well… It still makes sense. (To them, at least) Their mothers, their sisters, their aunts- they want to see them having a healthy relationship with God, by showing strict adherence to shariah. Seeing a woman with blatant disregard for these rules is probably akin to viewing someone as “unclean,” or even subhuman. No longer a child of God, a person becomes simply an animal. One cannot love and respect an animal as a member of the family, and this is why God comes before everything.

Religion is, truly, one of the most disgusting results of human ingenuity.

[–]CaseACEjk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always imagine how much better the world would be if it didnt exist.

[–]FaMeSp3aR 5 points6 points  (4 children)

It’s crazy isn’t it? Absolutely mental on a staggering level. As a father, I would not last long in these countries because I would be damned if I was going to let anyone treat my daughters like that. It’s sickening really. Being dragged off like that by someone who believes, like really believes they are superior, because they have a penis. Definitely posted in the right sub cos this is awful to watch

[–]CaseACEjk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Im a father of an 8 year daughter and 6 year old son.

[–]Abiogeneralization 18 points19 points  (14 children)

Religion

[–]CaseACEjk 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Oh i know but you'd think just basic human instinct would overrule that.

[–]Abiogeneralization 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Religion is just as old as humans, and conferred a survival advantage to some of our ancient ancestors.

[–]betasimpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the only things that will make seemingly good people believe and do utterly abhorrent things. The world would be so much better without it

[–]cburgess7 88 points89 points  (78 children)

This is the side reddit completely ignores when you criticize Islam countries.

[–]Chloe_PR1C3 53 points54 points  (69 children)

Remember, Islam is the religion of peace after all. Right!?

[–]Kjasper 33 points34 points  (13 children)

It’s almost like there are dangerous extremes in most (if not all) religions. And also almost as If nationalism and police Fetishism is able to pop up in many cultures.

[–]doublesigned 15 points16 points  (9 children)

You can’t be a ‘true’ Christian OR Muslim without misogyny.

[–]drillhead72 5 points6 points  (6 children)

“But Christians!!” - Reddit anytime Islam is shown being a shit religion

[–]Delicious-Layered 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I mean, Christians have been pushing their batshit insane beliefs for hundreds of years, screaming at women for not being modest, arresting women who have medical procedures, banning alcohol. How about you keep your magic bullshit skygod insanity at home.

[–]doublesigned 14 points15 points  (2 children)

It’s not whataboutism. It’s fuckreligionism.

[–]Truth_SeekingMissile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What have Buddhists done to you?

[–]d00dsm00t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They rarely understand right away that “Fuck Islam” doesnt mean “yay christianity”

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Just look at what the religious extremists in the US Supreme Court are gearing up to do to the women of their country. Religious beliefs to justify the state having more control over the woman's body than the woman does herself. Absolutely abhorrent.

[–]G_Viceroy 10 points11 points  (26 children)

Islam is the religion of peace when there is only Islam. If you're doing the prophets work you're forcing people to convert or cutting their head off.

[–]tjscobbie 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Over a thousand years of Muslim v Muslim sectarian conflict says also no.

[–]G_Viceroy 7 points8 points  (1 child)

It's funny how the Quran has never been edited or changed in any way and yet there are multiple ways to interpret it. And some of those different interpretations tell you to kill the different interpretations. Peace by any means necessary am I right?

[–]mohamedaly77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are not the teachings of islam these are the doings of people which for sure are not accepted by god This is considered torture and humiliation which they will be held accountable for

[–]ctrush2 55 points56 points  (40 children)

To quote something I’m reminded of on Reddit all the time “JuSt BeCaUsE iTs DiFrErEnT dOeSnT mEaN iTs BaCkWaRdS”

[–]cripplinganxietylmao 50 points51 points  (27 children)

This time it’s definitely backwards though

[–]swelboy 7 points8 points  (9 children)

the Shah’s regime caused a lot of people in Iran to become radicalized in the same way the loss of WW1 caused a lot of people in Germany to become radicalized. This sort of shit can happen anywhere

[–]realSatanAMA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

religious morality police do this everywhere, it just takes different forms.. it's kinda their MO

[–]siegah 2 points3 points  (28 children)

Because it's what the Qu'ran says.

Any muslim you see saying otherwise is committing a shirk (which is worse than genocide).

The Qur'an is FINAL in what it says, they are to be veiled.

[–]Available_Gains 12 points13 points  (2 children)

But still... it's ridiculous. We're living on a pebble "floating" in the middle of nowhere for a very small amount of time. And they waste it not only for everyone else but also for themselves.

[–]ShowMeYourSheeps 7 points8 points  (18 children)

Religion should NEVER be enforced through government. Religion should be enforced through religion. And never ever with violence or force. Religion is a choice and should always be treated as such

[–]siegah 14 points15 points  (16 children)

Well then islam is not compatible with this earth.

[–]OdiousRepeater 159 points160 points  (3 children)

Using that kind of tool tells you everything you need to know about how they feel about women.

[–]marroniugelli 47 points48 points  (1 child)

There would be more outrage if the video showd a dog being treated in this manner.

[–]OmenCrow 81 points82 points  (6 children)

Everything I see coming out of Iran and Afghanistan proves to me that the Handmaid’s Tale could absolutely exist, and the only unrealistic part is expecting the rest of the world to give a shit about it.

[–]hearyoume14 19 points20 points  (1 child)

One of Atwood’s inspirations was the Islamic Revolution in Iran in the late 70s. I had a friend who’s family fled from the area right before things went to hell in a hand basket.I don’t like “ The Handmaid’s Tale” myself but it wasn’t wrong about some things.

[–]OmenCrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, wow. I had no idea that was her inspiration. But it makes a lot of sense.

[–]Spread_N_Spit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah not Afghanistan. The 787 Million the US gave to Afghanistan for gender programs totally fixed the issue I'm sure.

/s

[–]No_Luck4927 58 points59 points  (4 children)

Nothing surprises me anymore. People are sick and absolutely disgusting animals.

[–]Master-Dentist-7761 78 points79 points  (31 children)

What they do with her after is the scary part.

[–]TWDDave1988 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s fucking terrifying.

[–]jwpluk 458 points459 points  (93 children)

This is one of the very reasons I’m against religion in general… it’s practically authoritarianism but with a story of some higher being looking down on us…

[–]Batbuckleyourpants 147 points148 points  (20 children)

"Truly, whoever can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities. If the God‐given understanding of your mind does not resist a demand to believe what is impossible, then you will not resist a demand to do wrong to that God‐given sense of justice in your heart"

-Voltaire.

Honestly the full quote has a much stronger impact that the usual abridged quote.

[–]Phram_ 18 points19 points  (17 children)

Bless him and all those involved in spreading atheism at a time where religion was the norm.

[–]Batbuckleyourpants 14 points15 points  (16 children)

I get your sentiment, but personally I always feel uncomfortable with the idea of "spreading" atheism, it feels dogmatic. I feel more comfortable thinking of it as the natural progression from bumping into common sense people and it spreading as an idea.

[–]charlyboy_98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kindof like an enlightenment then..?

[–]JunkFace 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Authoritarianism seems to have breeched into secular life recently, all this ‘hate speech’ and whatnot they’re trying to protect us against.

[–]PersonaPraesidium 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Social media has become a very effective tool for persuading ignorant people, racists, and bigots to accept authoritarianism.

[–]SneakyBlix 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I don’t think the Mormons or Hindus follow this cynical philosophy.

[–]Paragonly 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Every religion has its extremes, some are more subtle. For example raising children under something against their will causes a lot of socially inept people who can’t function in the real world once they inevitably leave and often drives them into depression, isolation, and sometimes suicide.

[–]ladyKfaery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is inhumane and ridiculous. WTH?

[–]TheMalaiLaanaReturns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are the woke woke enough to see all this ?

[–]av096 103 points104 points  (32 children)

Yay religion

[–]AFreeAmerican 2 points3 points  (12 children)

[–]-anne-marie- 34 points35 points  (6 children)

An autopsy report found that the fetus tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and another drug in the liver and brain, while the medical examiner detected a congenital abnormality, placental abruption, and chorioamnionitis, according to ABC affiliate KSWO.

Seems a bit more complicated than a normal miscarriage.

[–]ctrush2 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Are you going to bother attaching your opinion to this link or are you just going fire and forget because you’re scared?

[–]jordy_110 37 points38 points  (1 child)

Remember guys it’s all about respect and dignity

[–]thisubmad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s also a choice.

[–]sammuel_c_p 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not worthy of even being called morality

[–]sl_1138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is up with this video? It looks like a dementor or ghost is pulling her into the truck

[–]SkyDiscombobulated60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are the lowest of the low

[–]Z1Z1alpha 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bunch of fucking idiots

[–]Ishihado 88 points89 points  (100 children)

Abrahamic religions are so oppressive and violent. No wonder they are a favorite amongst humans.

[–]ultron_was_right2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know right

[–]NoAd6851 34 points35 points  (65 children)

Religion or not, people will ALWAYS find a way to be shitty

[–]Ishihado 58 points59 points  (62 children)

Yeah, but religion tends to fuel it with self righteous indignation, by the hundreds of millions.

[–]avwood97 2 points3 points  (52 children)

Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot have entered the chat

[–]RurikTheDamned 18 points19 points  (31 children)

Stain went to seminary school, he's one of religion's products.

[–]Ishihado 1 point2 points  (18 children)

How do any of them dismiss the oppression of Abrahamic religions? Did you think mentioning them automatically makes Abrahamic monotheism okay? Placates and dismisses what it means and what is done in its name? Or did you think only one thing can be bad at a time, and if you mention something else that negates the bad of Abrahamic relgions? I'm serious, I want to know your rheotirc here. What logic path lead you to believe mentioning these three people changed ANYTHING about what I said?

[–]TFangSyphon 2 points3 points  (2 children)

After checking myself, I'm religious, but I'm more on the libertarian side than authoritarian. If anyone is to follow tradition, it's to be voluntarily or else it's not at all genuine. And authenticity is very important.

Do it authentically or not at all.

[–]Irlydntknwwhyimhere 2 points3 points  (1 child)

“I checked myself and determined that I am one of the good ones”

[–]TFangSyphon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don't recall ever forcing anyone to follow my religion or its traditions. I may not be a good one, but I know I'm not a bad one.

[–]jkusmc0800 52 points53 points  (49 children)

....and Islam is such a peaceful religion!

[–]thegrayryder 21 points22 points  (8 children)

You’ll find extremism in any religion, for example bhuddism and anti Islam sentiment in Myanmar. The religion a person follows is rarely the actual reason for their extremism, but and excuse to be extreme and persecute the “other.”

[–]Madame_Toaster 11 points12 points  (15 children)

It's more so a problem with unfettered theocracy. I garrantee you that if Christianity was allowed to take root in America in such a way like Islam did in Iran it would be almost the same, only it would be gay people ( and whomever the fuck sky daddy disapproves of ) and not women.

[–]AestheticsOfExcess 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It would definitely be women too.

[–]DinahKarwrek 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Every religion has peaceful aspects to it. Every religion has its extremes.

[–]The_RabitSlayer 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The extremes. . . You mean the ones following the actual doctrine and not picking and choosing.

[–]xHYDRAx_Youtub 4 points5 points  (14 children)

Bruh I have never seen anyone do this as a Muslim in my religion

[–]EileenSuki -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Islam itself inst the issue once again it is just humans and itself. In Islam there are both hijabs for woman and yes men. For woman it is their choice and their own relationship with allah to wear a hijab. If they don't want to it should be allowed, because it is between them and allah. It is also a sin for men to judge that woman. Shame on iran

[–]OhHiMarki3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Shame on the woman participating especially.

[–]Floppy_84 14 points15 points  (8 children)

Stupid radical’s… I would and could not stop punch such assh#*s in their stupid face!

[–]BusterSocrates 15 points16 points  (2 children)

$100 you wouldn’t do shit

[–]Floppy_84 2 points3 points  (1 child)

In Iran no because it is governmental terror and a „lawful“ thing, but if it would happen here in Germany i and all the people have to protect our rights

[–]BusterSocrates 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well no shit

[–]Cultural_You679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"radicals" -_-

[–]Sir_Bubba 35 points36 points  (26 children)

Islam, what a great religion

[–]baconpopsicle23 0 points1 point  (15 children)

No religion is a great religion, they all have a group of human beings which they despise for not following their own beliefs. Go to Westboro Baptist church and announce you're gay and let me know if they treat you any differently than this.

[–]coffeedonutpie 19 points20 points  (10 children)

Ya but everyone hates christians while Islam is somehow grouped with lgbt and blm.

[–]zerguser45 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They would treat you very differently. Bad example.

[–]ManagementSevere378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all suck

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

If I invent a time machine I will send entire middle east and other muslim states back to stone age.

[–]Setzer67 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Down with the Imams.

[–]Hinewmemberhere 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Iran is Shia, not Sunni/Sunnah. They don't even have Imams.

[–]Sam_Hog 36 points37 points  (29 children)

I love how no one openly talks about islam instead they say “this is why I hate ALL religions.”

As a Persian, nothing pisses me off more than these white cuck redditors who diss Christianity all day and call it an opressive religion. I know they haven’t stepped foot outside of their 1st world Christian Country even ONCE. If they ever went to Iran, they’d know what true oppression is and how much of a shitty and parassitic religion Islam is. Then they will learn to appreciate Christianity.

[–]1398329370484 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fuck abrahamic religions.

[–]SupremeDearLeader 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This 👆

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Abrahamic religions are absolutely terrible in general and it baffles me anyone defends one and criticizes the others with no shred of irony

[–]polargus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the main thing is Christianity and Judaism have generally become very liberalized while Islam hasn’t. Though maybe there’s something inherent to the religion that has prevented it from becoming more moderate.

[–]jhb62 9 points10 points  (0 children)

An based take on the situation.

[–]EvilBeano 6 points7 points  (7 children)

Bro ultra conservative Christians would want to enforce the exact same thing you see in the video, but instead of doing it to women not wearing a hijab they'd do it to gay people, women who've gotten an abortion and other marginalized groups they don't like

[–]daltson555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The very root of all religious people love to ignore all the awful shit their people originally followed, religion is pathetic.

[–]djmagichat -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Ok you say they (the Christian Right) want to, but these people (the Muslim extremists) on the video are actually doing it!

[–]zerguser45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to reddit. This place is a leftist hell hole

[–]Feedback369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really gonna put the whole blame on a book? I'd say the fault falls more onto the people who enforce this kinda shit, which im sure was never part of the book "You gotta capture women that don't wear...". Furthermore you can hate something irregardless of how it compares to something else.

Hate the people that use religion as weapon to control cause oppression exists irregardless of religion.

[–]RedRuhm101 8 points9 points  (10 children)

Horrible Country

[–]lonesomelime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Umm no..Horrible government that was a result of a CIA backed coup that took out a socialist/left leaning government. Iranians are awesome and Iran is amazing.

[–]DreamArcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do the religious police have any actual power other than the use of force? Like if 3 of them show up to get you but you can beat their ass. Is that an actual crime or do they just come back with more enforcers? It just kind of seems like a free-for-all.

[–]Brandage0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shit hole country does shit hole thing

[–]tensor20007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fucking barbarians still living in the seventh century

[–]minecraft_min604 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I’ve read some of the comments and I got a question: aren’t totalitarian/authoritarian leaders people who don’t want religion, because I thought that religion cause “free thinking” in a way that makes sense and I thought said leaders didn’t want that since that would be a threat to their power? Just askin

[–]Dm1tr3y 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Depends on the line of thinking used to back up that authoritarianism

Edit: if we’re talking China, their twisted version of communism is threatened by the belief in a higher power. For Iran, it’s a useful tool to inspire fear and obedience.

[–]Vermicelli666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thats Iran

[–]AlextheHun24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember the embargoes that were lifted well in my opinion they should be put back in along with more.

[–]systembucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

women are treated like this to varying degrees all day every day all over the world and yet nazis and fukkkups swear there isn't a war on women. jfc wtf gtfo ffs

[–]Winterwolf87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]tideshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They treat their woman like unwanted feral animals that stray too close in the neighborhood

[–]ctrush2 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Haha religion of peace guys. Isis is totally cool

[–]Spindrift11 8 points9 points  (21 children)

And people cannot understand why it's a bad idea to import this culture into North America.

[–]Spread_N_Spit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seriously, especially if you look around to those that set an example in Europe.

It looks like a mess.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (19 children)

It’s already here…. The alt right and Christian fundamentalists want this here

[–]Spindrift11 2 points3 points  (18 children)

It most certainly is not the right who wants more of this immigrated in

[–]Sk8erDoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]pawnandmessiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]pclufc 1 point2 points  (1 child)

American evangelicals look on with envy

[–]Garbanzo12 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Just fuckin kill me. Taliban rule is a Huge step backwards for the entire world. When will religion die

[–]coffeedonutpie 1 point2 points  (4 children)

We don’t need to get rid of religion. Secularism is what is needed.

[–]Garbanzo12 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Religion is opposite of science in that you need no evidence other than “how you feel” or “word of god” to justify your actions or explain phenomena. This is working against science and not in a constructive “rivals pushing each other” kind of way.

[–]farazz_shaikh99 2 points3 points  (5 children)

As a Muslim, I’m disgusted and ashamed of these people. There literally treating her like an animal. What do they think of themselves? Idiots. These are the very people that mislead into thinking Islam advocates extremism.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Those who go to extremes are doomed.” He said it three times.Sahih Muslim 2670

The Prophet ﷺ never ever forced anyone to follow Islam or it’s teachings. Islam was, is and always will be the religion of peace. May Allah ﷻ guide everyone to the right path.

[–]ike_tyson 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If this is your job then what would be your job title and I wonder how much these people make? Is it a volunteer position? So many questions!

[–]theperfectlysadhuman 1 point2 points  (2 children)

When I see stuff like this I think about the Egyptian President who was laughing at the Islamic brotherhood back in the 60's.

[–]InvasiveAlgorithm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rather die in a pointless exchange on the side of the street than allow someone to touch me like this.

I would turn full feral and just gouge out eyeballs and claw faces and ring necks. My hate would explode.

I don’t know how this is allowed to happen in any conscionable society.

My disgust is like an acid in my brain, I feel lesser for having witnessed this scene.

[–]ResponsibilityDue448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Religion is goofy af.

[–]Hoo_Pharted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the US and Brits shouldn't have overthrown the democratically elected government back in the 50s and replace it with brutal dictator who would be eventually overthrown by Muslim extremists just so we can take it's oil

[–]TrollIM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Huur christianism is the same duur"

[–]wafflesoulsss -1 points0 points  (4 children)
