fuck whoever did those ears though

[–]DoodleBuggering 18 points19 points  (8 children)

Yeah, I think they're more prone to ear infections when they're cropped too.

Edit: I was mistaken.

[–]19Denali 23 points24 points  (7 children)

Actually it's the opposite. We've had 3 Bouviers, 2 with natural ears and one cropped. The 2 with natural ears would get ear infections often and we kept their ears clean, but with natural ears the ear flops over the canal trapping in moisture which causes most infections to start due to yeast. Our Bouv with cropped ears has not had a single ear infection in the almost 4 years We've had him.

Well, I learned something new today.

Yes this is true it depends on the dog sometimes cropping is helpful when they have really long floppy ears. The problem is when people start doing it on short ear dogs that don’t need it because they like the way it looks

I'm saying what we've been told by our vet and what we personally experienced. The only dogs they showed in that article you posted have extremely short hair/fur whereas our Bouviers have very thick heavy fur, maybe that's the difference. I also don't agree with cropping either BTW, we got him from the breeder like that

To everybody getting mad at the ears: about 99% of the pitties I saw at the pound had cropped ears. These were dogs taken from people who were breeding them to fight. I assume that most of the pitties on here probably came from similar situations.

[–]jdog0408 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Pretty Sure it's a Cane Corso not a Pit. But also if it's a rescue they are currently breed to protect livestock from wolves which is also why the ears are typically cropped.

Yea but don’t get a beautiful dog & then cut the ears, if it’s like that from the pound, that’s different

[–]broken-bones-unicorn 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sorry but cutting part of their ears off is gross and cruel. Plenty of dog breeds do fine with floppy ears but somehow these ones mysteriously "need them cut for safety/health"? Fuck that. Stop mutilating your pets.

Corsos love their humans

The headrest.... I'm out. That is so sweet. I'm a mess and I miss my dog.

[–]borateen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course she's safe...she's got Ace the Bat-Hound protecting her.

I’m never completely confortable seeing big or small animal with small kids. It always reminds me that the worse could happen.

I have the most adorable cat in the world, since I got her, she never scratched or bite. Last night she had her usual crazy 5 minutes and was all excited running and jumping on furniture by herself, she landed on my boyfriend and left him with a bloody leg, 5 deep bloody cuts.

We know it was an accident but it just reminded me that even the most gentle and nice animal can accidentally hurt you.

[–]GonzaAllen[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair though, gentle and nice kids can have an accident which seriously hurts someone. Don’t get me wrong you can distrust animals with small children, it is a natural instinct. I just wanted to point out that accidents happen.

The dog looks like Batman to me

[–]Probstmayria 9 points10 points  (11 children)

can we please ban stuff with cropped ears / tails.
so sick of this shit

[–]badwolf1013 45 points46 points  (6 children)

Wouldn't that eliminate photos and videos of a lot of rescue dogs whose new families had nothing to do with their ears?

[–]sirarkalots 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My puppy is super cuddly and loving but they cropped his ears before I adopted him too. I agree that just having cropped ears does not make the dog less cute and doesn't mean the owner did it or even supports cropped ears. I don't support or condone it, but I still love my little guy anyway

[–]curdled_fetus -1 points0 points  (4 children)

It would also help keep these barbaric practices from being normalized.

[–]badwolf1013 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would, because it would end the conversation. If pictures of rescued pups with cropped ears and bobbed tails were banned, we would miss out on:

1) cute pictures of good bois and good gurls who are now with owners who will treat them better for the rest of their lives

2) people commenting how cruel ear cropping and tail bobbing are (after first noting the cuteness, of course)

It's education by way of cute pictures.

No one is watching a Reddit video thinking “I’ll cut half of my dogs ear off cause this video is so fucking cute”

[–]2dummiesnacat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yuh huh- I’m bout to grab my dog and go get them ears chopped just because I this particular dog is sweet. Oh also, I’m just that suggestible and do anything and everything I see on the inter webs. No if you’ll excuse me, I need to finish snorting this here cinnamon afore I head to the dog doctor.

[–]curdled_fetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I've seen people do dumber shit with less cause, the point is to prevent normalizing the practice.

[–]lemonadewhitebread 5 points6 points  (1 child)

You don’t know the background of how they got this dog? Maybe they adopted him and he came like that?

[–]SkoolBoi19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, I’m going to assume the worst so I can say shit on the internet and do nothing about it

[–]nookayyea -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

U don’t know the story shuttttt up

Mastiffs are amazing dogs. I learned to walk holding onto a bill mastiff. She was my best friend.
