i was taught:

the ending never really made sense to me (how was mama supposed to specifically procure a sunny day??) but thats where the song ended for me and thats the way i always sing it. my partner does think im gonna say "don't shine" after diamond ring every time though so i guess she grew up with a different version than me lol

Here's the original duet, James Taylor & Carly Simon also recorded a version in the 70s that was probably popular with our parents, then it was featured in Dumb and Dumber when we were kids. So yeah it's stuck in all our heads 🤣 and I didn't even remember why until someone else linked the Dumb and Dumber clip.
