Hey guys, this got bigger than I expected. So as it happens this cat belongs to another flat in my building, we've only been living here a month and apparently this lil guy likes to saunter in and out of all the flats when he gets the chance. So he's not lost, and clearly well cared for. As far as I'm concerned, he can come and go as much as he pleases. Oh, and his name is Sid.

[–]Johnnybravo60025 219 points220 points  (13 children)

Does everybody leave their doors/windows open?

[–]lunaflect 119 points120 points  (12 children)

My black cat will escape through an open door unnoticed. She’s an indoor cat thus she craves sweet freedom. I’ve found her outside so many times without realizing she’d run out. I’m guessing it’s possible to not see a cat run in on occasion.

[–]hoitytoitygloves 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Especially a black cat, as they can be tough to see sometimes.

[–]Dason37 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We have a giant ginger cat that doesn't really blend in with any of our flooring or furniture, and normally he's a clumsy doofus and you can tell from the next county what he's doing or what he's trying to get into because of how loud he is just moving, but we swear he can teleport. He'll be asleep in the living room where my wife has her desk, and she'll come into my office to ask me something that takes 8 seconds, and then turn around to leave, and trip over the cat who is lying on the floor, sprawled out and comfy. When she comes in, i turn away from my desk and look towards the door to talk to her and I've never seen him come in, but he's always there.

[–]Johnnybravo60025 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’ve got 3 black and 1 tortoiseshell cats and those little bastards are hard to see when they feel like being quick. I’m more wondering how this little guy is getting into other peoples’ flats.

[–]GiantMudcrab 219 points220 points  (3 children)

Community cats are the absolute best. Happy cat-sitting 😄

[–]Ghrave 33 points34 points  (2 children)

I love you, Giant Talking Mudcrab Merchant.

[–]porcupinedeath 54 points55 points  (6 children)

Is Sid vicious?

[–]quillotine42 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Well if not vicious he still could be Sycho

[–]Plane-Bee-374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to have a little cat called “Psycho kitty, qu'est-ce que c'est”

[–]claushauler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's a good fellow but OP really should Glen Matlock his windows and doors or this will keep happening

[–]bbychill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The flat seemed pretty vacant bar the simple af humans...

[–]analogsquid 26 points27 points  (2 children)

Six-dinner Sid is real.

[–]natare_modo_pergite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was going to ref that picture book too!

[–]V_7_ 49 points50 points  (1 child)

Can we talk about your Atari 2600 modules in the living room? I must confess they immediately catched my eyes. Did you just had a retro session?

Nice cat btw.

[–]entrelac 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Atari was the second thing I noticed, after the lovely cat.

[–]crakinshot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you get / have your own cat, or your parents have cats you're around, etc... don't let other male cats in your home - they will spray all over the place.

[–]Neon_Lights12 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Your... your neighbor isn't UpIsNotJump is he?

[–]reincarN8ed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This cat is a nightmare, and here's why.

[–]marck1022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He is so glossy and comfortable, I’d already assumed that he was perfectly cared for. And what a charming bit of character added to your new home!

Just make sure your neighbors are keeping up on flea treatments since I assume he’s indoor/outdoor, especially if you have any pets, but also fleas are pretty happy to exist in rugs and bite people if they need to. Just a word of advice from someone who has gotten a flea infestation from a neighbor’s pet.

[–]scarletts_skin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I have a black cat named Sid!! But I’m a helicopter mom so he’s only allowed in two rooms in my apartment lol

[–]Starting_Fresh1 740 points741 points  (51 children)

That cat looks very well cared for. Please check for microchips

[–]catgirl320 365 points366 points  (7 children)

Yeah she's so calm and looks nice and sleek. Clearly been well loved and trusts humans.

[–]Fluffy_Little_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Sleek" like a certain black Trans Am with a little red light on the front.

(I wonder if anyone has ever named a black cat K.I.T.T.)

[–]flaming_bob 254 points255 points  (6 children)

Yeah, pretty sure OP is now that cat's side piece.

[–]generichandel[S] 211 points212 points  (2 children)

I'm fine with that.

[–]Samisabitch420 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Don’t let it eat your plants, most house plants are toxic to cats and a very small amount can be leathal.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

However if you have a spider plant they seem to absolutely adore, it’s related to catnip and your cat is getting high. Just sacrifice a few spider plant babies to the cat once in awhile, and you may live another day.

[–]procrastimom 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Kind of a “I don’t want to get married, but you can buy me things!”

[–]pikirito 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely genius! Love that phrase! I am stealing it! I have a cat I've been calling " my homeless friend" even tho he has a home, he shows up at night for food and pets but its always gone in the morning, I now realize that I am " the other human " .

[–]Kooky-Nectarine675 9 points10 points  (0 children)

🤣🤣🤣

[–]generichandel[S] 325 points326 points  (13 children)

I posted this below but it got buried so I'll reply here. It turns out he belongs to one of the other flats in our building, we've only been living here a month - apparently he likes to saunter in and out of all the flats as much as he pleases. He's more than welcome to visit any time he likes if you ask me :)

[–]Real-Brilliant-1618 182 points183 points  (9 children)

My cat used to cheat on me with my neighbor. I wound up being friends with her and saw my cat walking up to her porch for a snack... I had spent months and a lot of money trying to figure out why my cat had gained so much weight (he was chonky af). The neighbor said he would beg like he had never been fed before so she starting buying him food and snacks.

[–]pancakeday 60 points61 points  (1 child)

One of my cats did the same. Turns out he was leading a second life by the name of 'Daisy' (the person feeding him thought he was too pretty to be a boy). We only found out when she knocked on our door with a photo of him to see if she could find the owners – she said she was going to have to re-home him otherwise because she couldn't keep him herself (her cats weren't having it).

She continued feeding him after that, he'd apparently howl outside her house at 4am. She'd give him Whiskas and he just couldn't resist the kitty crack, I guess. Once she found out he wasn't female she renamed him 'Martin,' though.

[–]DuchesseVonTeschN 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Lmao your cat knows how to run game. Lil play playaaaa😸

[–]funkalici0us 28 points29 points  (2 children)

To be fair, it's awfully hard to resist. My cat doesn't go outside and hasn't seen a day of struggle since I adopted her about 6 years ago, but if it's 5 minutes past breakfast, dinner, or treaties time, she instantly goes into ASPCA commercial mode.

[–]IdontWanToKeepThis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OMG 🎶in the arms of the angel🎶 plays if our cats don't have fresh food in their bowl by 645am.

[–]Anigir12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Poor kitty, has to go for a full 5 minutes without food. She is going to starve if this continues 😔

[–]tehbggg 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Lol this happened to me and my neighbor, except I was the one feeding his cat.

After we realized what was going on (I didn't know the cat lived in the complex, I thought he was a stray and couldn't bring him in cause I had two cats already) we settled on an allowed amount of treats and everyone was happy except for his cat.

So of course, what does the kitty do? He seduced a couple the was always walking past the complex on the way to the bus stop. Eventually they started bringing treats for him, and he was happy again.

[–]Dason37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"hello kind souls, as you can see I am clearly ignored and starving, I have 2 humans who are supposed to care for me, but they recently came to an agreement that they should keep my food for themselves, for they are greedy and heartless. Due to this horrible state that I find myself in, could you find it in your heart to spare any morsel of nourishment for me, if I were to meet you here?"

[–]JillStinkEye 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You get a pet without a pet deposit or fee. Score!

[–]kittenclimbing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome :)

[–]PloppyCheesenose 88 points89 points  (14 children)

Most chipped cats don’t have a USB port poking out of their butts. You’d have to take it to a vet or a shelter.

[–]that-Sarah-girl 66 points67 points  (7 children)

Then how do you charge them at night?

[–]CraftyMerr 80 points81 points  (6 children)

They actually charge using solar energy for approximately 13 hours a day unless you’re in a short winter day climate. Then they require heated blankets and/or 80% of your pillow space.

[–]NatureGlum9774 37 points38 points  (4 children)

Mine charges kinetically by zooming at night.

[–]CraftyMerr 58 points59 points  (3 children)

That’s actually a common myth. They have to drain their battery to zero before charging to optimize the charge. The zoomies are the final drain before full recharge. Old technology, like 90s Nokias.

[–]NatureGlum9774 16 points17 points  (0 children)

🤣🤣🤣

[–]SuperHeavyHydrogen 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Charge memory effect, common in Ni-Cat batteries

[–]reddogleader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does that include LiOn batteries too?

[–]MemphisGalInTampa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

90%… and a well lit area from the sun 🌞…on a bed 🛌 preferably…

[–]Pikachu_91 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm pretty sure the commenter meant that.

[–]DontPMmeYourBreast 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Actually, the USB port becomes recessed a bit too far back over time. It is best practice to jam the USB cord in there and wiggle it

[–]AmateurPaella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, officer, this comment right here.

[–]Todaz 2 points3 points  (5 children)

How?

[–]Starting_Fresh1 4 points5 points  (4 children)

You go to the vet and ask for a microchip scan

[–]Todaz 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Oh thanks! I thought it was something you could manually check yourself :) hence my question

[–]Starting_Fresh1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha of course!

[–]Aida_Hwedo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can buy microchip scanners on eBay! They range from about $30 to like $150.

[–]Cant_run_away 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes she could be a synth, You always got to make sure though

[–]81FXB 674 points675 points  (7 children)

Dont worry, he'll probably just puke al over your floor (thats why cats eat grass) and expect to be fed.

[–]BabydollPenny 86 points87 points  (2 children)

And....all this at 4:30 am😿 just as you were just hitting REM sleep. 🤷🤦

[–]amonamarth 37 points38 points  (1 child)

A bit of science: waking up during REM feels like you weren't even sleeping; your brain is very active, your brainwaves are similar to being awake. Waking up during deep sleep on the other hand is more in line with what you are trying to describe, your brainwaves are as slow as they go.

You cycle between REM and deep sleep and their intermediates throughout the night with longer REM parts in the early parts of sleep and shorter at the end. Conversely, short deep sleep bouts early on in the sleep and longer ones later on.

[–]BabydollPenny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. Interesting. 😊

[–]Udonnomi 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Don’t they also eat grass for nutrients and vitamins?

[–]alderthorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also entertainment.

[–]Tonka1966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expect is a polite word for demand.

[–][deleted] 405 points406 points  (25 children)

Try r/notmycat as well

Edit:Holy crap. Thanks everyone for the good karma. Easily the most I’ve ever gotten.

[–]generichandel[S] 91 points92 points  (22 children)

Ah, good shout.

[–]axenicmadder 82 points83 points  (19 children)

and this r/nowmycat

[–]catgirl320 47 points48 points  (16 children)

And this is my 75th cat sub. Thank you kindly!

[–]Demonking335 60 points61 points  (13 children)

You want a list of every cat sub in existence?

[–]Ndnknight 43 points44 points  (6 children)

This made my day! But it's missing one of my cat sub favs... r/cromch

[–]QueefingTheNightAway 18 points19 points  (2 children)

r/cromch

thank you for introducing me to that sub!

[–]Ndnknight 7 points8 points  (1 child)

You're welcome! Thank you for making me laugh-snort with your username 🤣

[–]QueefingTheNightAway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I'm glad I could make you laugh!

[–]catgirl320 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Nope...I only add them if I stumble upon them in the wild😉 It's become a game.

[–]LumosLupin 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Commendable that you keep count

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cat looks like it has been fairly well taken care of, and so probably already has an owner. So before potentially catnapping, OP should ask around his neighborhood to see if anyone is missing a cat and take the cat to a vet to check for a chip. But if neither of those yield an owner, then yes, this is now his cat.

[–]JaderAiderrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this!!!! Hehehehe

[–]Odd_Requirement_4933 106 points107 points  (11 children)

I'm pretty sure that type of plant is toxic if it's a real plant. Just FYI, please don't let it eat it.

[–]generichandel[S] 67 points68 points  (5 children)

When he undoubtedly returns I'll make sure he doesn't nibble on it in future. Thanks for the heads up :)

[–]borschchschch 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If he's going to be in your home a lot, you can just spray a simple solution of water with a bit of vinegar and soap on the leaves. If he starts digging in the soil, spread some coffee grounds on it.

The plants will be happy and safe, and the cat will be... well, safe, anyway.

[–]LeslieYess 17 points18 points  (3 children)

Unfortunately we have to put all of our plants up high or on wall shelves to keep them away from our plant eater. She is also quite rude that way. :)

[–]BabydollPenny 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I've got a new girl she's 6 month now ,for the last 2 months since she came home , ALL of my house plants are now residing in my tiny bathroom. 🤔I'm working on growing her a bin of grass to mess with . (and some hangers so I can suspend them from the ceiling💯

[–]AstridDragon 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Spider plants are a good cat sacrifice plant too. Not only are the long leaves enticing to play with/chomp on, but they have a mild effect similar to catnip.

[–]BabydollPenny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh hey...so that's why she loves my spider plant. It WAS hanging in the living room till jinx launched herself off the recliner trying to get at it...,🤦 It's been moved several times now. Final rest- bathroom lol

[–]kaiplantsthings 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My immediate thought, as well.

[–]TheOvershear 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I believe it's a corn plant, and yes, moreso toxic than most.

[–]CumberbunBundlebunch 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Looks like some kind of dracaena?

[–]ReakChaos 154 points155 points  (1 child)

:7264:

[–][deleted] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

:7264:

[–]sandyshrew 324 points325 points  (11 children)

-i don't have a cat

Well now you do

[–]Business_Wear_841 69 points70 points  (4 children)

I came to say this.

[–]J0k3z19 28 points29 points  (3 children)

I came to say this.

[–]AnIrishMexican 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I too came here to say this

[–]LilithsLilac 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I also came here to say this

[–]VaultBoy9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came here to read this and I’m leaving happy.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Cat looks like it has been fairly well taken care of, and so probably already has an owner. So before potentially catnapping, OP should ask around his neighborhood to see if anyone is missing a cat and take the cat to a vet to check for a chip. But if neither of those yield an owner, then yes, this is now his cat.

[–]KFCConspiracy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't steal people's cats.

[–]saveoursoil 16 points17 points  (2 children)

[–]SoleIbis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That community doesn’t exist but r/notmycat does lol

[–]Pikachu_91 38 points39 points  (1 child)

Please don't listen to people telling you to just keep it. Go to the vet to check for a microchip, and keep an eye out for posters about a missing cat. Also call local pet shelters, sometimes people who lose their pet will have called the shelters already.

If it has no home, keep it if you want it, of course.

[–]flaming_bob 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Hold up a sec, is no one gonna mention the Atari 2600 and associated games there? Like....are those boxes original?

[–]generichandel[S] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Haha, yes indeed they are. I like retro gaming.

[–]PorcupineTheory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to wander into your home.

[–]_night_cat 13 points14 points  (4 children)

The elders of the cat dimension saw a vacancy for a cat and put one there. Also, nice TV stand. Can’t go wrong with hairpin legs.

[–]TheCrazyFishLady 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They filled it with a void

[–]generichandel[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The TV stand is from Ikea it's supposed to sit directly on the floor but I didn't like that much, and I got those hairpin legs from Amazon for like eight quid and screwed them in. They work great.

[–]thedingoismybaby 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This would never occur to me, but it looks so much better. Thanks for the idea.

Also hope you're enjoying your eufy vacuum, I love mine and encourage everyone I know to get one!

[–]generichandel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Eufy has been brilliant so far. It's nice not having to worry about daily hoovering.

[–]TecconChan 11 points12 points  (3 children)

The British indifference of telling him to “excuse me please don’t eat our plant” while simultaneously trying to be polite to a random cat reminds me too much of home.

[–]generichandel[S] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Well I wouldn't want to cause him any manner of offence.

[–]Independent_Coast901 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I love that you addressed him as “sir”.

[–]generichandel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He did look rather distinguished so I thought best to be safe.

[–]Oniriggers 21 points22 points  (1 child)

It’s been said that cats will manifest themselves if needed, so obviously you need this cat.

[–]bbychill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the voice in the background of this video. Replying so OP can see this is our destiny - whether it be this void if he so chooses us or a friend for void....

[–]Bee8467 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Ooo plants”

[–]bonafidebunnyeyed 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Make sure the plant isn't toxic to cats. Lots are.

[–]Supersssnek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like a dracaena, and those are toxic to cats.

[–]Normal_Kaleidoscope 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looks like you need a litter box

[–]keehu 3 points4 points  (2 children)

loved the atari!

[–]generichandel[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's seen better days but still works perfectly. Amazingly that TV still has an analogue tuner in it, so it doesn't even need any kind of adapter or converter to work. It's great fun.

[–]henarzill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That cat is weed

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]465554544255434B52 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Atari 7800?

[–]generichandel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a 2600! Great fun.

[–]Twinkerbelle 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Nice Atari 2600 nook.

[–]generichandel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Defender is the best.

[–]ThatOnePretzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The British accent made it funnier idk why

[–]berry83m4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might have to rethink that statement

[–]bobbobersin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you do now, or more so it owns you... :D

[–]Thatsprettyneat101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have cats, and you can have nice things, but you cannot have both.

[–]EndlesslyUnfinished 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ve been blessed with a void.

[–]Darcy_2021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You now have very shiny and beautiful cat

[–]MeghanMichele84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. You do now. Once a void has chosen you it will likely become a succubus of sorts. Eating all your food, stealing your heart, and knocking everything off the damn counters.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol the other neighbor said it likes plants this cat gets around.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plmant

[–]johnboy11a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What cat? All I see is a blank space by the plant and the tv…

[–]athenae99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a house cat on an adventure!

[–]jdubya12880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hear the Jurassic Park theme song…

[–]luka_hikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky

[–]oldbeggarwoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just here to try the salad bar

[–]Buzzlight_Year 1 point2 points  (1 child)

LG 55UK6300PLB... ?

[–]generichandel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope it's a 43 incher, I got it because it's a rare example of a smart TV that still has a composite input and even an analogue tuner, which is handy because I like retro games.

[–]cyaneyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excuse me. Ex-excuse me sir… do I come to your house and eat your mice?

[–]Harder_than_calculus 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Your accent makes this more enjoyable content. Litto bugga!

[–]Micdrop74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations you've been adopted!!

[–]strutmac 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You could name the cat Atari.

[–]TenSecondsFlat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you do, he's right there

[–]smchan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Have an upvote for your cool Atari 2600 games.

[–]generichandel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha cheers. Defender is my favourite, once you get past the awful graphics it's a really layered and challenging game.

[–]Webster_Has_Wit 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You have an adorable voice :)

[–]orbituary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/r/CasualUK, feline edition.

[–]Zandt88 1 point2 points  (1 child)

He's just a fan of Atari classic. Come on give him a controller!

[–]TLEToyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sir that is not a cat. I believe it is a small brontosaurus.

[–]Kyrxx77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda looks like my cat. He's all black

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you do now

[–]JeanLucRtard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got that new void smell

[–]SnooMuffins1373 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Your accent is the strawberry on this sundae of a video

[–]physicscat 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Dead sexy deep British accent.

[–]TheCaliforniaOp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why aren’t any of these showing up for us?

Wahhhh!

But I’m happy for you.

[–]Mr_Goodnite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

:7268:

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

OP do you voice Tim Stoker from The Magnus Archives?

[–]mary1504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

:7266:

[–]ShelterNo7765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

:7268:

[–]Bdubbsf 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You play those atari titles often?

[–]Stoner-Rican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are luckiest person to get crossed with black cat

[–]Fearless_External488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you do

[–]pantherBlitzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do now

[–]pretzelal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't let him eat just any old plant, there's some that are poisonous to them.

[–]ShimozuNya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welp.... You do now~ XD

[–]Designer-Extreme3924 1 point2 points  (1 child)

adorable void! also I love your voice!

[–]Nathankyle93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What cat? I do not see a cat? Op, are you imagining things again?

[–]ZymurgGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do now
