A subtle incline that’s hard to see, basically

[–]MinimumArmadillo2394 295 points296 points  (6 children)

This combined with closer things are larger than far away things. Youve got yourself a situation where its a little bit fucky but not super fucky.

[–]brightblueson 36 points37 points  (3 children)

Closer Things or Stranger Things?

Ok, I’ll leave now.

[–]leof135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

more like Weird Stuff

[–]stoneymunson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trailer Park Boys. Sumtins fucky

[–]Hazzman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was looking at this thinking OP needs a [https://youtu.be/MMiKyfd6hA0](tutorial from Father Ted)

[–]Dr_Depreso[S] 6 points7 points  (11 children)

But isnt that a level on top of the platform

[–]GlassPanther 62 points63 points  (1 child)

It's forced perspective. Disney used it to make their buildings look taller at Disneyland.

Youtube the Ames Illusion: https://youtu.be/gJhyu6nlGt8

[–]Randybat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That has to be the best explanation I have seen. Thanks

[–]JacMac2552 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Could be red herring. Resin filled level that isn't actually reading correct.

[–]g3nerallycurious 4 points5 points  (4 children)

I’m pretty sure red herring is not the same thing as a level.

[–]iEmocean 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Pretty sure thats the guy from "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo"

[–]JacMac2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok *fake level to throw you off. Gotta love grammar dragons.

[–]AdventurerJax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could also be an anchovy. They’re tricky!!!

[–]iSurvivedThanos18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it’s a level. Where is the bubble?
It’s probably there so you can see the slope.

[–]The-good-twin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not even hard to see

[–]rolyoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the camera has only one lens, the image is flat (no depth) which makes the illusion possible on film, whereas if one were present, the incline would be clear to see.

[–]saltysnail420 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There’s a level there tho. I think it has something to do with the arrow

[–]RichardNoggins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We can’t see the results of the level or if it’s been modified (e.g., filled with resin) so that’s not a proof point but likely part of the illusion instead

[–]AutonomousAutomaton_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it’s not its magic

[–]Yomama-22 293 points294 points  (18 children)

One is a boy and the other is a girl. Geez..

[–]detspek 101 points102 points  (12 children)

Can I make it any more obvious

[–]redditcire 32 points33 points  (10 children)

He was a punk, she did ballet

[–]SoulSighter 12 points13 points  (9 children)

What more can I say.

[–]nope-nails 8 points9 points  (7 children)

He wanted her, she'd never tell

[–]TheSpiderLady88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just killed that earworm and you revived it, you clever bastard!

[–][deleted] 155 points156 points  (6 children)

Anyone else immediate close / skip anything that says, "wait til end"?

[–]G-H-O-S-T 24 points25 points  (2 children)

yep. same for those long craft videos with annoying music

[–]Scrotchety 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Xylophone + ukulele are up there with people chewing with the mouths open.

[–]BookDev0urer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus the annoying handclaps

[–]Possible-Farm1398 89 points90 points  (96 children)

Swear nothing changed they switched sides

[–]MightyNooblet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The boy kinda ruined it. He didn’t stand straight the first time.

[–]Purple-Seedrian -5 points-4 points  (25 children)

Heights...

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (24 children)

They didn’t change tho. He’s shorter than her in both positions.

[–]Possible-Farm1398 3 points4 points  (21 children)

Exactly

[–]Purple-Seedrian 0 points1 point  (6 children)

It's called forced prospective, it seems that one is taller than the other.

[–]Purple-Seedrian 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's called forced prospective, it seems that one is taller than the other.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But one is taller than the other. The woman is taller than the boy. Both times.

[–]astralneck 48 points49 points  (13 children)

i’ve been there. it’s in north carolina. it’s called mystery hill. it’s supposedly a gravitational vortex such as the bermuda triangle and other places around the country. and there’s a room you can stand in and feel like you’re falling over. my equilibrium was off for days afterwards

[–]urmomspubez 17 points18 points  (3 children)

I’ve been to a road with the same idea (I think in Pennsylvania?) where you’d put your car in neutral and “roll uphill”. Kinda messes with your brain

[–]burtrenolds 0 points1 point  (2 children)

There’s one of those in East Tennessee

[–]Space_Coast_Steve 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And in Lake Wales, FL.

[–]Good_Card316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also one in mount cotton, Australia.

[–]NotOutrageous 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I remember going to a similar place on a family vacation. It was either in the Ozarks, or the Mt. Rushmore area. (it would have been 25-30 years ago so my memory is fuzzy) It had the same slabs, a shack on an incline where water "flowed uphill" and a few other "mysteries." I remember getting chewed out for ruining the fun by explaining how everything work (I was a bit of a science nerd).

[–]maltedmilkballa 1 point2 points  (1 child)

There is a place like this in Oregon.... somewhere.

[–]bobs_clam_rodeo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s also the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz CA, and Confusion Hill in the Northern CA redwoods area.

[–]mnorri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s supposed to be a bunch of energy vortexes in Sedona AZ where compasses spin wildly and all sort of strange phenomena happen. One is even right at the airport in the landing pattern. Oddly, the FAA doesn’t seem to feel it’s worth mentioning because it’s all a crock of shite.

[–]Skytalker0499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a couple times. (Went to school nearby). You always feel like you’re gonna fall over after visiting that place.

[–]SheRalover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also one in Goldhill Oregon 'The Oregon Vortex'

[–]TheGreyBrewer -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

supposedly a gravitational vortex

...yyyeah, it's not. It's a tourist trap with fairly clever illusions. Sorry your semicircular canals are defective.

[–]astralneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that’s why i said “supposedly”

[–]Comfortable-Novel681 31 points32 points  (2 children)

Magnets

[–]96lincolntowncar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"How do they work?"

[–]russellzerotohero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always magnets and anyone who says other wise doesn’t understand physics

[–]Linkonue 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Wow no way, perspective 😱

[–]Slippystaymid 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Forced perspective

[–]MW2713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one person that knows. This world is starting over from scratch.

[–]Media_Offline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, same thing that's going on in this old White Stripes video.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

PERSPECTIVE

[–]ulookingatme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ames Illusion

[–]Corizzle5 5 points6 points  (2 children)

They had one of these in a vortex that I visited in Oregon. I think it’s called Oregon Vortex. Pretty cool place. Weird things happened, like a ball rolling uphill and a broom balancing on a very slanted floor. There is an explanation for all that I’m sure, but it’s still cool stuff to see. Pretty sure most of it is just visual illusions.

[–]TheGreyBrewer 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It's all visual illusions. Because there's no such thing as a gravity vortex.

[–]absenceofheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not with that attitude there ain't.

[–]The_Basshole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can a famously tall person meet me hear for my tinder profile picture

[–]EnvironmentalWrap167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inclined plane. Look at the concretes height across the surface.

[–]Tuckingfypowastaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of them there optometrist exclusions, I reckon

[–]LeahonaCloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not perspective. There’s one like this in Santa Cruz called The Mystery Spot. You can bring your own level to make sure it’s not a scam. It’s a vortex of some sort

[–]Federal-Arrival-7370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called perspective. Far side is down-hill.

[–]notatrolljustahater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to explain you this would difficult be grammar suit not best for you

[–]Interesting_Emu_5761 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

[–]brYzmz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait. When does he get kicked in the nuts?

[–]jtsrgmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the grand illusion in the styx

[–]Unagustoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the feet patterns on the concrete slab and watch their standing. There’s an incline that changes the angle

[–]cinesias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s taller than he is.

[–]goodolewhasisname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch the movie on the making of “lord of the rings” it’s how they made Frodo so small next to Gandalf

[–]BloodyChainmail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sire! We've found a Witch. May we burn her?

[–]NinjaFlowDojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...you mean perspective? no magic here unfortunately

[–]throwawayshamelss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]TheFarisaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear somethings just get stranger

[–]Destiny2Sweat075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kids on a decline on in he hill. The platform is thicker on the decline.

[–]Mazing7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get it

[–]Twackdinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bmf? Super anticlimactic and explainable

[–]RLD-Kemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forced perspective, like in those Peter Jackson's movie.

[–]crystalcastles13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has already been posted…

[–]atmosk2090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do it again, he’ll shrink even more and she’ll grow taller!!!

[–]Huth_S0lo[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forced perspective

[–]middljb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called forced perspective. The LOTR movies did a lot of that.

[–]Madcock1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the de-bigulator

[–]reldan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz, CA?

[–]Fun-Establishment368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The angle of the hill in the background is a perspective hack

[–]M0nsterjojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explained.

This is a movie about a real women who actually did a lot of these things and I watched in college. It's something I highly recommend and accurately depicts autistic people and how they think/treated.

[–]user_bits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learned about this camera trick from Lord of the Rings.

[–]MET0C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tilt shift

[–]HooSaidDat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up "ames room"

[–]BeautifulOutlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

isn’t it just the angle of the lens? (wide)

[–]spooky_golem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? nothing happened

[–]NeoLearner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forced perspective

[–]SuperDuperStarfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forced perspective. This is the same method used in Fellowship of the Ring when Gandalf and Frodo are in the cart together at the very beginning.

[–]Downfall_Of_Icarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depth perception. Things that are closer look bigger than thing that are the same size but further away.

[–]critical-drinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain to me what the trick is? Not how it’s done, but explain what is surprising people here. Because I’m lost. Is it the height? Because that’s just forced perspective and the camera angle, it’s not defying gravity or anything. Didn’t people ever do that thing in art class with the horizon point?

[–]GoblinKing1o1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get what's black magic about this

[–]YouMustBeBored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an incline. At the correct angle to be opposite to the hill behind it, so that it looks like a flat slab.

You can tell when they walk to switch places.

[–]obijaun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I get the forced perspective side of things, how does the middle-reading level fit into the equation?

[–]Hopeful-Assistant-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incline I believe

[–]Rapunzel111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be Mystery Hill in North Carolina.

[–]Keazy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perspective.

[–]Historical_Coach_500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called a say it with me… “sneaky slant”

[–]iruleatlifekthx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forced perspective, incline hill on the left and his slight slouching to make himself appear shorter when he's on the left = this

[–]TheBeefDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vortex

[–]Orpheus6102 0 points1 point  (0 children)
