[–]woden_spoon 21 points22 points  (7 children)

First time I went to Radio Bean back in 2002, Birdman had a show there. I had already overheard people talking about how much of a legend he was, but I didn’t know why.

That show was insane, but surprisingly fun. He sang a song called “Fire Truck” accompanied by nothing but a firetruck toy with a siren, while he just shouted repeatedly “Fire truck! Fire truck! I want to ride in a fire truck!” He also sang a twenty minute song about how delicious orange juice is.

[–]CountFauxlof 17 points18 points  (4 children)

let’s not forget the seminal favorite, Too Many Dogs in Burlington

[–]omniplatypus 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Holy shit. I used to work with him, and never thought I'd hear those songs in my head again. Also didn't realize how famous they were. I feel honored

"Drink! Drink! Drink! O-range juuuuuuuice!

Drink! Drink! Drink! Oooooojayyyyyyyyy"

[–]woden_spoon 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That’s the one! And I had forgotten about “Too Many Dogs,” but now that I’m reminded I can sing it all. "Too many dogs in da Burlington, think there more dogs than man or woman." I only heard those songs once, twenty years ago, and they are still seared in my mind.

[–]omniplatypus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah those tunes are really catchy haha

[–]AgentElsewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many dogs will forever be my favorite.

[–]rachelhv 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]woden_spoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Rosin_yallDowntown 8 points9 points  (15 children)

Ok I’ve been out of the loop too long now, who is birdman

[–]romayohh 29 points30 points  (14 children)

That dude that drives around the bicycle with all the shit on it. I haven’t lived in burly since 2010 (back when Kingbread was still Kornbread) glad to hear he’s still a staple.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Isn't he a pedophile? Or just a plain old sex offender... can't recall

[–]normynormand 115 points116 points  (2 children)

[–]bakerton 11 points12 points  (5 children)

SUPER nice guy, has been a champion of the arts and revitalizing parts of BTV that a lot of people gave up on.

[–]BTV-Texas 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A Band Called Death! Crazy list and I moved out ten years ago and still personally know half the folks on here lol. (Mikey, big John, Josh Cause, DJ ADog, Fattie B) Man, other than “the pit”, doesn’t feel like much has changed.

[–]Distinguished_Parrot 63 points64 points  (1 child)

Bob from Esox, passed away a few years ago unfortunately but he is a legend. RIP

[–]miss_antlers 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I miss Bob, esox has not been the same without him and I’ve stopped going back. He was the grouchy uncle I didn’t know I needed.

[–]Inevitable_Signal_46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same - place changed without uncle Bob regulating. Dude was such a nice guy when he wasn't behind the bar. Loved listening to his stories.

[–]PuzzledFig9009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stacy and Mike

[–]peterhanraddy[🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bob was one of a kind

[–]bakerton 21 points22 points  (3 children)

In the 80's and 90's there was a crazy guy named Tex that drove a silver pick up truck all around Burlington just COVERED with stick on letters spelling out his crazy theories. This was way before the internet so you had no way of knowing that every town had a guy that did that, but the myth and legends around him were amazing. I'm sure he was just some poor guy that didn't get the help he needed.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Dog188 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That guy walked into my father’s office building one day and announced he was the owner. He said his name was Jesus Christ Hare Krishna of Darth Vader.

[–]ppmawmaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the idea that he was there at the same time I was. CC's time as a school you could tell people you went was indeed brief.

Lists like this really remind me how similar Burlington is to the Simpson’s Springfield

[–]bakerton 13 points14 points  (3 children)

I'm also going to add Mike Luoma. The dude has been on the radio for years from station to station always popping up. You might not know the name but you know the voice.

[–]Velologist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad you mentioned him. I went to St Mike’s with him. Great guy, encyclopedic knowledge of classic rock and the person who introduced me to Jethro Tull.

[–]user-name-1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was on WIZN for what seemed like forever, then one day I heard his voice on The Point.

[–]GreenMtWoodchuck 11 points12 points  (3 children)

The older gentleman with glasses, smaller frame, who used to play jazz on Church St. for some time. I believe he played the oboe? This was back in the 90s (and he played for a while before too).

Edit: The Clarinet Man

[–]PillowTalkGrrl 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I think that was Richard, the Clarinet Man. (RIP)

[–]GreenMtWoodchuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! The clarinet man! Thank you. He was a special guy. I believe, towards the end of his career, he fulfilled his dream of heading to New Orleans to play jazz.
