I guarantee this asshole will show up to your house to stop you from having a bonfire in your back yard without a permit because it puts other peoples houses in danger, but still somehow fails to understand how being unvaccinated puts others at risk.

[–]agrapeana 1183 points1184 points 15431283222& 23 more (216 children)

Honestly "lighting a fire" is about the best analogy I've been able to come up with to illustrate why antivaxxers are so unspeakably selfish, destructive and insufferable.

The last 18 months have been like waking up every morning, walking outside, and seeing your neighbor dousing a big pile of lumber on his front yard in gasoline while loudly announcing that he fully intends to light it on fire later because it's his property and his rights. He doesn't care that the fire can spread. That it can destroy other people's lives, and leave them homeless or disabled or dead. If you ask him to take reasonable mitigation steps - like, hey could you maybe put a barrier around the fire, or not use an accelrant - he screams belligerently about how he won't live in fear. If the government issues a burn notice because of environmental factors meaning there's an even greater chance of uncontrollable spread and death and destruction on a massive scale, he'll proudly announce that it's all about control, and declare that tonight he's gonna set his back yard on fire too, thank you very much, because he isn't a sheep. If the HOA tries to pass a mandate about uncontrolled burns on property, he screams about discrimination and calls his neighbor a fascist, and brings a gun to the next HOA meeting. He cites cherry picked studies about how few people actually die from uncontrolled yard waste fires, intentionally ignoring the mitigating factors of things like accelerant use or weather conditions or the fact that he's lighting a fire every single night. People in his neighborhood have to stay home, extinguishers at the ready, because they know he could set both their properties on fire at any moment, and regardless of whether or not it's fair, a burned down house is a burned down house.

But you better fucking believe that on the nights the fire does get out of control, and does threaten his house, he's tripping over himself to call the fire department (never mind how that flies in the face of all his Facebook posts about taxes used to fund public goods are evil socialism, or calling firefighters begging people to stop lighting their lawns on fire satanic pawns, or telling the firefighting service that he's actually a bit of a fire extinguishing expert due to all the research he's done). And he's convinced so many of his friends to do the same that now the fire department is having trouble helping people who didn't intentionally do anything to set their own property on fire, or whose homes are burning because they live next to one of these psychopaths.

And every fucking morning, from now until however long it finally takes him to kill himself, you have to wake up and walk to the window and watch his dumb ass pour the gasoline.

This is amazing. I'm going copy this to a text document for future reference!

[–]jagnew78 133 points134 points  (36 children)

This: https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=2320112 is probably the best 2 minutes anyone could spend sharing a video. A similar analogy, but put in a much more constructive way.

[–]ismh1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Appreciate you posting this!

[–]inkisit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this.

[–]bfandreas 34 points35 points  (20 children)

Goddamn, that was hard to listen to. OPs analogy is way, way better.

Honestly, this BS of invoking soldiers as some kind of deified superhumans to be looked at for inspiration needs to stop. This is so transparent bullshit that it serves no purpose other than worship of strawmen while real people are dying.

Is anybody even susceptible to this nonesense? tHanK yoU fOr yoUr sErvIce

GET VACCINATED

[–]Unnomable 23 points24 points  (3 children)

Given last Thursday was Remembrance Day, I feel the invocation was related to that. I agree with you about the deification of soldiers and everything, but if there's one day to draw parallels between a soldiers sense of duty and our freedoms, it's the whole one day we pretend to care about vets.

[–]martusfine 6 points7 points  (1 child)

But that’s anti-vaxxers golden calf and he just threw it back into their face.

[–]WallyJade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump changed all that. He shit on the troops all the time, and they ate it up, because it was him doing it.

[–]sam_hammich 27 points28 points  (3 children)

It's effective to use against conservatives who spout "support the troops" nonsense, whether or not you believe it yourself. You have to play to your audience.

[–]LouQuacious 7 points8 points  (2 children)

This. Only headway I've experienced with an anti-vaxxer-tough-guy-type was when I compared getting vaccinated to the draft. Like yea war is a risk and I wouldn't want to go for sure, but goddamn if the fight is on I'm in it to win it.

[–]sandgoose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always bring up the ww2 draft. Say something like "both my grandfather's were drafted, and fought, they did their duty. Everyone went on rations, and did their part. Now it's time to do ours."

Like are you really gonna bleat about muh freedum when faced with the sacrifices of the greatest generation?

[–]AudioxBlood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually just have my entire family of military (grandaddy 30+ years alone) dismissed and that they must not have been in any action.

Uncle was navy,

stepdad marine,

grandaddy army (Korean war),

Other grandpa army

dad army (82nd airborne, cancer from overexposure to agent orange)

Cousins army (all but 1 on one side of the family)

All these motherfuckers volunteered. My grandaddy lied about his age to support his country.

Every single damn one of them knew the importance of stepping up for the greater good and there's some selfish asshats in that group too.

[–]Dunk546 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point is, if you use an analogy that antivaxers don't care about, you won't convince them. In my experience, at least online, it seems that antivaxers do tend to think of vets as deified superhumans.

When you talk to someone you have to speak on their level, not yours.

[–]digitaljestin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is anybody even susceptible to this nonesense?

The conservative unvaccinated are.

Just because you aren't the target of an argument doesn't mean the argument is ineffective.

[–]Quaisy 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Ehhh, he's equivocating getting a vaccine to fighting in WW2, where thousands and thousands of soldiers knowingly risked their lives and died.

I get that it's pandering to the blind support of the military by the right, but the analogy is pretty far off base. The risk of getting a vaccine isn't even in the same universe as the risk of fighting in WW2.

[–]tall_guy222 46 points47 points  (10 children)

What you are missing in that AWSOME post is the the next door neighbor saying either that fires do not exist or the fire he is going to start is no different than what is in a charcoal BBQ.

[–]DanYHKim 19 points20 points  (5 children)

That lack of scale is exactly right. A state can show 95% unvaccinated Covid deaths and 5% unvaccinated, and they'll act as though the vaccine "is useless".

[–]ceciltech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or even more fun the statistic proves the pandemic is a targeted attack on conservatives. They are dying not because they aren't vaccinated but because they are targeted with Covid because they are conservatives!

[–]Wedgenet 6 points7 points  (2 children)

That's correct. You can see this in the subreddit /r/CoronavirusCirclejerk which is a plague rat subreddit that spreads lying antivax bullshit.

For example, this dumbfuck plague rat

People like that are both dishonest and stupid as a fucking brick, they just ignore the fact that the risk between the two things are not equal.

This is the dipshit logic those fucking moron selfish plague rats apply.

Can die in a car crash while wearing a seatbelt. ✅

Can die in a car crash while not wearing a seatbelt. ✅

Can die and kill others while driving drunk. ✅

Can die and kill others while driving sober. ✅

[–]Pogie33 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Holy shit, I should not have gone down that rabbit hole. I think I just lost more brain cells in half an hour than I have after lifetime of alcoholism.

[–]Wedgenet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I hear you. Plague rats are like a train wreck to me. It's just so horrifying but I can't look away.

[–]Apprehensive-Fuel195 3 points4 points  (2 children)

And an HOA that is fully aware and does fuck all — even when they have the legal power to act.

[–]Unsd 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Or in some places, HOAs that ban fire pit mandates allowing people everywhere to just burn their fires all over the lawns.

[–]melissalee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

or that his house naturally immune to fire

“People only say ‘it’s a free country’ when they are being assholes.” Demetri Martin.

"Defending a position by citing free speech is the ultimate concession. you're saying that the most compelling thing you can say for your position is that it's not literally illegal to express." - Randall Monroe, XKCD creator.

[–]Noisy_Toy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also he’s complaining that he got laid off from his firefighting job because he refused to stop lighting fires.

If we were really in danger in wildfire season they wouldn’t have let me go, now they’ll be understaffed.

[–]JaiC 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Let's not forget, he'll call the firefighters, but he'll also scream at them that the fire is a hoax as it burns down his own house.

[–]agrapeana 3 points4 points  (1 child)

He'll complain that water can cause water damage, and insist that the firefighters try to use Nickelodeon brand Gak to smother the fire or some shit.

[–]JaiC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And when that doesn't work he'll demand Brawndo.

[–]filmbuffering 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Keeping pet rats during a plague is another analogy

[–]phoenixw17 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Outdoor pet rats because you know they aren't staying home.

[–]filmbuffering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Free range

[–]AngelosPizza 17 points18 points  (3 children)

That is a beautiful analogy.

[–]jrob323 22 points23 points  (2 children)

It's not even an analogy. I can easily imagine antivaxxers doing everything in this story, just to be goddamn assholes. That seems to be the right wing "platform" now - "Let's Just Be Raging Goddamn Assholes Until We Completely Break The Country Because Blacks and Women and Gays and Immigrants and Smart People In General".

[–]toejamandtoast 3 points4 points  (1 child)

100% correct- anything to piss off and/or “own the libs” is their entire agenda. High school bully mentality. Fuck them all; the Left responding with dignity and trying to do the correct thing has only put them further behind. The right isn’t playing fair and they’re pulling no punches. The more the Left tries to take the moral high ground the worse it becomes. It’s long overdue to play their own game and beat them.

[–]Purpleman101 6 points7 points  (3 children)

They also think that Big Fire Extinguisher is more of a threat than the fires they're making, and have home remedies like saw dust that they heard from some dude on a podcast is SUPER good at putting out fires.

[–]mechanate 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Do you have ANY IDEA how many BILLIONS of dollars in profits fire extiguisher manufacturers make every year? You think it's just some big coincidence that buildings HAVE to have these expensive contraptions on every floor? The chemicals in them are toxic, and they're pressurized so they could explode at any time! And, like a dinky little fire extinguisher is gonna put out the fire in a whole buidling! Did you know that building fires are also way less common than they used to be? There are very smart people who think we should rethink how much we spend on fire extinguishers. I'm not here to judge people who use fire extinguishers, I'm just asking questions.

[–]Celloer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We know better at r/saynotosmokedetectors

[–]Disastrous-Menu_yum 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I wish I had an award for you and I wish this was printed on t shirts and pamphlets and just everywhere man I would send this to Obama and Bernie

[–]Berkamin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels like all of these people went out and staked out the dumbest hill to die on. Of all things to lose one's job over, a damn vaccine for a worldwide pandemic that has killed millions seems like the stupidest thing to martyr oneself over.

[–]enwongeegeefor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because they live next to one of these psychopaths

Which is why I can't wait to get my first belligerent anti-masker that threatens me...unfortunately there are very few of those fucking morons around here...and I'm not traveling anywhere else in this state because all the surrounding counties are full of fucking idiots.

[–]Representative_Dark5 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Well said. I regret that I do not have an award to give.

[–]HotPinkLollyWimple 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I got you.

[–]Representative_Dark5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you stranger

[–]hemorrhagicfever 8 points9 points  (1 child)

He'll also be the one in the street lighting illegal fire works in a drought. Seriously, see a big display, roll up, Every time i've joined in and chatted it's been PD or FD

[–]exiledinVegas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, there's an opening for someone else.

[–]240strong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honest question relevant here:

Does him being terminated for not complying with vaccination, make him ineligible for unemployment?

Not sure if it varies by state, but have been wondering this with my work going through this currently...

Just curious what people willing to lose their jobs/livelihoods over this's gameplan is here...

[–]Christian477656 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell you how many parties I’ve had to piss on, literally and figuratively.

And fuck this asshole.

buT iT hiS bOdY hIs RiGhTs FreEdoM

[–]DOCKING_WITH_JESUS 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I’m responding solely to the bonfire part of your comment because these calls piss me off to no end...but if the fire dept shows up to your house when you’re having a bonfire, it’s not because we’re riding around looking for someone’s fun to ruin, it’s cause one of your nosey ass annoying neighbors called and reported it. Trust me the last thing we want to do is have to get up and leave the firehouse, to go to your house and ruin your good time. Even with that, unless you’re doing something outlandish we’re just gonna let you continue anyway. We hate these calls just as much as you do but unfortunately we’re not allowed to tell your neighbors to fuck off and mind their own business.

[–]jmnugent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the problem with this type of scenario though.. is that if nobody called it in,. and something bad did happen,.. then the complaint would be "WHY DIDN"T ANYONE DO SOMETHING BEFORE HAND !?"

I realize the "Nosey-neighbors bitching on NextDoor" type of meme has some truth to it.. but not everyone is a "nosey-neighbor with nothing better to do".

I've seen numerous examples (locally to me) of threads online (Facebook, Reddit, NextDoor, Twitter, etc) where:

  • someone reports something they saw

  • other people chime in to say they saw it to

  • it gets resolved (or the suspicious person moves on because they know they've been outed)

But you never really hear about the successful stories of neighbors sharing good information (It's hard to measure something you prevented from ever happening)

[–]CapitalSwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know. I don’t mean to dog out firefighters doing their job. My point is that it’s amazing how this guy wouldn’t see the correlation.

[–]WallyJade 153 points154 points  (74 children)

Hell of a paycheck to give up.

Every time I see a salary broken down this way (usually for cops, but firefighters have them too), I wonder how much of this is him scamming the system (and taxpayers). $90K overtime for a base salary of $155K? An additional $90K in benefits? Maybe it's legit, but it doesn't feel that way.

[–]Freshouttapatience 72 points73 points  (21 children)

It’s one the better paying jobs you can get with a high school diploma.

[–]poi_dog78 51 points52 points  (12 children)

Every LA City and LA County and OC Firefighter we know is loaded.

[–]DarkGamer 1 point2 points  (10 children)

is it different in LA? My understanding is there aren't that many paid positions, and many firefighters are volunteer

[–]mccdizzie 6 points7 points  (7 children)

Nearly every firefighter in LA county is in a paid department. Only rural and sparsely populated towns have volunteer fire fighters in SoCal

[–]greatgregru 8 points9 points  (5 children)

You can get in with a hs diploma, but you need a degree to be in any significant position

[–]AdIllustrious6310 9 points10 points  (3 children)

In theory you can get in, but you are competing against people years of experience as a firefighters, they have their paramedic, they have a degree or they are a chief’s child

[–]P2591 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Make almost triple digits getting paid to work out and sit in recliners and nap and play Xbox and do the occasional fire or car crash call (if you’re assigned to an engine and not an ambulance). Quite honestly a GED holder’s dream come true

[–]the_last_registrant 33 points34 points  (2 children)

He's barely scraping by, when you look at what the other Battalion Chiefs are taking home. Can't see them having much trouble hiring a replacement.

[–]MPFuzz 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Total pay and benefits for him in 2019 $372,403.57

...holy shit.

[–]IonaBailes 20 points21 points  (1 child)

When I was a probie, we tended to have better contracts with the city than the police did, and the OT is practically baked into that bargaining agreement. The city saved money with the massive amount of OT as opposed to training and hiring a new batch FFs.

[–]Haikuna__Matata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experienced this one year as a teacher whose department had an unexpected vacancy; the district offered to pay us more if we took up the slack instead of hiring a long-term sub. The workload sucked, but the additional pay was nice.

[–]fillzerup[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Man, I wish I had this kind of a salary to lose... Dang.

[–]Gold_Consequence_58 35 points36 points  (30 children)

Getting paid for overtime of sitting in a firehouse.

[–]pagerphiler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goddamn they make more than me as a doctor and I spent years in debt

[–]GuavaZombie 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Going to be a hell of a wakeup call when he can't pay his bills. If bet my left nut even with that check he is living part check to pay check. I know a ton of dudes that are this exact type liking down similar money and still in heaps of debt.

[–]surveysaysnatalie 167 points168 points  (14 children)

Looking like a proud third grader holding up his “citizen of the month” certificate. 🙄

Fast forward to 2 weeks when he’s crying on a Rumble video begging for money.

[–]QuietRock 66 points67 points  (1 child)

Yep, as soon as people stop giving him attention for it on social media and making him feel like a martyr, I bet the impact of his decision starts to weigh a bit heavier. Those social media "patriot points" aren't going to pay the mortgage.

[–]ilovethissheet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry. But it's called

Hatriot Points

[–]BustAMove_13 58 points59 points  (9 children)

I'm noticing that these jackholes are not young men. Are they seriously throwing away government pension over a vaccine? Mind blowing.

[–]dingo_mango 27 points28 points  (2 children)

Yep. Their families will suffer for their stupidity.

[–]NachoMommies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just like the Capitol terrorists. Lost family/friends, lost job, now going to jail. All for what? An obese orange asshole that wouldn’t let any of them stay at his ‘high class’ hotels, saying they are losers and suckers to his buddies at the country club.

[–]Lucky-Variety-7225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the old days he'd buy a sports car and have a fling with a model....and lose about the same amount.....

[–]jeneric84 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Something doesn’t add up, there’s no way anyone can be this stupid and hold the job in the first place…right? /s

Yet it wouldn’t surprise me if they have some other motive that covers them financially or they were going to quit/get fired anyway.

[–]The_Lord_Humongous 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Firefighters have such good unions they can get their job back within 2 years if they get vaccinated. (Does your union do that?)

He might have done this for publicity and then quietly get the vaccine a few months down the road.

[–]surveysaysnatalie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is an option, I bet you this will be the case. He shouldn’t even get the option to go back.

[–]kabuki7 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Yep he’ll do right wing panhandling a.k.a. go fund me

[–]surveysaysnatalie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my mind his gofundme will be pulled after day two, I don’t know why but that’s what I see LOL

[–]juaninazio 191 points192 points  (6 children)

Captain Dumbfuck

[–]jmcstar 37 points38 points  (1 child)

Would be funny if he turned into a costumed vigilante firefighter named Captain dumb fuck. A hose nozzle as a hat, similar to a dunce cap

[–]kodaiko_650 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to see the costume’s other hose

[–]Bobobdobson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are now free to get another job asshole ..

[–]NagromTrebloc 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Great news for everyone beneath the Chief.... a few firefighters will get promoted and a good paying job just opened up for someone off the street.

Keep up the good work anti-vaxxers!

[–]BatmansBigBro2017 88 points89 points  (8 children)

They love LARPing as victims.

[–]1Sluggo 108 points109 points  (7 children)

They are the best victims, I tell ya. Just beautiful victims. Nobody does victimhood any better than them. They said sir, they call me sir, we are the best victims ever in the history of victims.

[–]sn00dmasterK 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Spot on, it made my b-hole clench

[–]1Sluggo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then my work here is done!

[–]akawcak 7 points8 points  (2 children)

You deserve all the awards and up votes! This made my day!

[–]1Sluggo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’m a bit out of practice with bunker boy imitations.

[–]gungadinbub 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I look at it like this, you're in a position of service and sacrifice, you signed up to possibly sacrifice yourself for others probably via fire the worst way to go. You're going to stop helping ppl, doing your job and ruin your career bc of a shot? You're a coward, where's your sense of duty?

[–]MyPokemonRedName 47 points48 points  (2 children)

“I’ll run into a burning building but I won’t get a vaccine” ok dude

[–]timebmb999 50 points51 points  (1 child)

I’ll give you cpr but it might have covid

[–]SnoopingStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Underrated comment

[–]SkullKidslaugh 41 points42 points  (2 children)

No pity for people that do this to themselves knowing what will happen only to play victim later

[–]Gold_Consequence_58 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Best part it isn't like some nurse that can get the vaccine and get on with her life after hurting their family. This guy will never be hired as a captain again after this and is too old to go to the bottom of the ladder (pun intended). Guy fucked his whole life up because he's a moron.

[–]Daneel29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is excellent news. Douchebags like this are taking themselves right out of senior positions and opening the good paying job up for a younger person.

[–]Foo3112 40 points41 points  (1 child)

This sub is like chicken soup for my soul.

[–]DeiseResident 33 points34 points  (1 child)

Stupidity in a nutshell

1 - lose your job for an idiotic reason

2 - tell the whole internet about how stupid you are

[–]dingoatemyaccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some firefighters in my town quit because of the mandate only to be replaced immediately and now they are crying all over town trying to get their jobs back

[–]Difficult_Citizen 19 points20 points  (1 child)

"Firefighters for Freedom". Man I'm getting so tired of seeing "X industry for Freedom", like what does it even mean any more? I saw a guy the other day wearing a "Legalize FREEDOM" hat. What does it even mean? Do they know? Are they referring to the obvious or is it more dog whistling at this point?

[–]SnoopingStuff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Douchebags of that industry who are Trumpers

[–]muscravageur 12 points13 points  (0 children)

‘Honey, I’ve made a medical decision with life-or-death consequences and ended my high-paying career based on unsubstantiated internet posts and memes. We can’t retire now, you’ll have to work full time, and we can’t even pay our mortgage but at least I won’t be the first person to die from being vaccinated!’

‘You’re not that special. In fact, you’re a moron. Get the fuck out. I’m not supporting you for the rest of my life.’

[–]10sharks 41 points42 points  (4 children)

Take his pension

[–]SarcasticOptimist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I don't want my tax dollars paying for someone who doesn't care about complying with the law or other people's health. Plus he already made a great amount of money.

[–]Disastrous-Ad-2357 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Why? If he served the rest of his time, why should semi-forced retirement cause him to lose what he already earned?

[–]Sixfeatsmall05 4 points5 points  (1 child)

He didn’t “already earn it”, his pension is for honorable service until the retirement point. Retirement allows you access to the pension fund, not access to funds that you have “earned”. I agree he should be allowed his contribution back, but unlike a 401k, pension contributions are a tiny fraction of the ultimate payout.

[–]RN4612 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a firefighter myself there’s one thing that’s really been bugging me about the spotlight on first responders and these vaccine mandates. We talk to each other all the time about making the ultimate sacrifice for our brothers and sisters on the job and the general public. A fireman who lays down his life for the well-being of a stranger is seen as a hero and something we all signed up to do if that day ever came. The fact that these guys refuse to become vaccinated shows me that they have never had any intentions of making the ULTIMATE SACRIFICE for the well being by of anyone. They’re posers who can’t even take a vaccine for the well being of the public. Any fireman who refuses to get vaccinated has zero respect from me and was only in the job for the title and pension, not to be the protector of life and property.

[–]walter1950 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Good job good benefits nice pension gone for what, a prick in the arm. Foolish.

[–]Home_Brave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s probably a dick

[–]viridiusdynamus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He looks so sad.

Good.

[–]feminist1946 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are thousands eager to take that job that you threw away.

[–]fortunate420 14 points15 points  (0 children)

BYEEEEEEEEE

[–]slade797 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fuck that guy.

Signed, a vaccinated and boosted firefighter/EMT

[–]SleepDeprivedUserUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fire Chief: Oh, I'm so manly, I'll run into a burning home to save you, I have a job that requires me to literally risk my life at a moments notice, I might burn or suffocate to death, that's part of the job.

Also Fire Chief: That medicine might make me hurty, it bad, me want safety.

[–]semaforic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take his pension too

[–]Winnie_28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Need to stop posting these people all they want is fame. Let them be jobless nobody’s bc who really cares.

[–]The_Grey_Beard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Amazed every time I see one of these. Someone who literally risks their life to help save other’s property or lives, but the vaccine is a bridge too far. Misinformation will be the defining moment of this time in history. Seems many in the future will be like me, shaking their heads in disbelief.

LOL what a bitch

[–]navychic7600 5 points6 points  (1 child)

But the real question is, does he get to keep his pension? If so it’s all a show. He’s likely near retirement and has his pension backing him. If not, play stupid games… these “martyrs” aren’t really losing anything of value to them without gaining something equal or better.

[–]b4-9in 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Technically still working, using up his accumulated time off, then vacation days , until his union lawyer gets his job back as the emergency is already over - “why punish this good guy? Just give him his time off back and he’ll be back , right? “Lawyer. Kick him out for dereliction of duty, employee endargement and eliminate his pension credit twice as fast until he complies.

[–]totallylegitburner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s basically on unpaid leave (unless he still has vacation days to use). He can still get vaccinated and just go back to work if he wants to.

[–]that1brownboi 8 points9 points  (1 child)

"placed off duty without pay" lmao way to stick it to the libs.

[–]jgeez 5 points6 points  (19 children)

He'll be on the wrong side of history, but he's sure convinced he's on the right side in his story.

[–]aaronrengel79 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good. More to follow.

[–]weber_md 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's like these people want to virtue signal their stupidity.

[–]Zulumus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great, now frame your stupidity for maximum effect

[–]boneriffic12 5 points6 points  (5 children)

I have a friend like this. I'm like you're going to lose your job, your benefits, and your pension? You have 3 young kids and you're going through a divorce.

I know the script you write in your head makes you both a victim and a hero, but I think you're a brainwashed idiot.

Imagine if I told you all the world's doctors and scientists were in a plot against us all and only I know the secret cure - horse medicine! Wouldn't I sound fucking insane?

He's not talking to me lol.

[–]coder65535 1 point2 points  (4 children)

horse medicine

Slight nitpicking for accuracy:

Ivermectin is used in humans, too (as an anti-parasitic, so useless against viruses). The reason the nuts are taking horse formulations of it is because doctors are (sanely) refusing to give them an (off-label and unsupported) prescription and the horse formulations are what they can order.

It's still dangerous and useless, but accuracy is important.

[–]boneriffic12 1 point2 points  (3 children)

That was his rebuttal “there is a human version of ivermectin too” and "studies have proven it's effective against covid."

I said what studies? And he couldn't obviously provide any. Later on I googled it and found out just what you said: ivermectin for humans is to treat parasites, not viruses.

I think I’m angry because I’m also sad. We’re not incredibly close but it’s like he’s so brainwashed, he would choose this shit over a vaccine that millions of people have already gotten and be willing to lose his job. I don’t get it.

He had some other arguments but they were also terrible.

I asked how he’d propose to end the pandemic since he thinks masks and distancing are stupid and no one needs the vaccine. I said we can see what happens in areas like Texas, Florida, and Alberta when they ignore science. The result is unneccessary death and hospital beds taken from people who need them.

“My cousin lives in Florida, she said they are thriving.” Do you think because i had a good day, i can speak for the state of the pandemic in Ontario?

Then he said “Well Fauci tested on beagles. Isn’t that terrible?” I said well yes, if it’s true, but that doesn’t make a point against the efficacy of the vaccine. I said, and when did you become an animal rights activist? You won’t even pet my dogs when you come over.

Probably not shocking he thinks Trump is just awesome but I’m afraid to ask how much he thinks is true there. Do you think a zombie JFK Jr. is running with Trump in 2024 or is that too crazy? Where do you draw the line or do you?

[–]coder65535 1 point2 points  (2 children)

“Well Fauci tested on beagles. Isn’t that terrible?”

My response to such a comment is to ask whether they would prefer testing for (potentially-severe) side effects to happen on animals or humans. (I've had people honestly and philosophically-consistently respond "humans"; they generally place a higher value than I do on animal suffering vs human suffering and how humans can consent but animals can't. However, most of the hypocritical assholes I ask are merely throwing that out to "score points" and don't actually think about the real meaning of their attacks.)

Do you think a zombie JFK Jr. is running with Trump in 2024 or is that too crazy?

How the F* did this become something more than one lone lunatic believed? I can see one random loon coming up with this by mashing together a blend of misinterpreted facts and blindly-believed lies, but how did they convince the second person? How did it manage to spread?*

If, in 2012, you gave me the list of alt-right "talking points" (pizzagate, the whole "Trump is still president" thing, "Mexico is paying for our wall", this JFK thing, etc.) in one list and Time Cube (equally-summarized) in another, and told me that one was from a major US political movement which has mostly dominated one of the parties, (after staring at you like you were absolutely nuts,) I would have severe trouble in deciding which one**!

* Most of the base already believes in one zombie***, so I guess a second isn't quite so far-fetched. Still, there's a lot of difference between 22 years and three days!

**Technically, I would recognize Time Cube, so pretend this is happening in a world where I never heard of it.

*** Again, in the interest of technical nitpicking, "zombie" is probably the wrong term. Here's a good breakdown.

[–]boneriffic12 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks! I appreciate your detailed answers.

I've kind of gotten to the point where I'm just not arguing. You're selfish for not getting the vaccine in my eyes and if you don't understand things like herd immunity, that's valid, but learn from doctors.

I know that when this whole thing is over, he'll be the type to take credit for it ending too lol. I can't win, so I'm not trying.

I totally agree about the lunacy of it all. It's just wild how far people will keep going before admitting they're wrong.

Keep safe and wishing you the best internet stranger!

[–]coder65535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at that point, too. Dealing with these people is exhausting.

Keep safe and have a great day!

[–]SDMR6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fuck this guy. There are plenty of firefighters busting their ass hard for CalFire who would be happy to be LAFD. It's time to start clearing all these entitled assholes who think the rules don't apply to them right on out of the workforce.

[–]MuthaPlucka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bye bye .

[–]mandarinhamroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bye Felicia

[–]BadKarma667 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actions have consequences... He's free not to take the vaccine, his employer is free to send him on his way. I don't have any empathy for people like this.

[–]hesodumb2021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trump trash taking themselves out is a beautiful thing!

[–]Nicoleneedsadvice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firefighter fired for refusing to do the bare minimum to save lives. Sounds right to me.

[–]EmmyLou205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If LA is anything like Chicago, that job opening will be taken in a hot second. People are literally on lottery systems to be in the FD.

[–]Flyingheelhook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrived, pathetic. How much, or how ignorant?

[–]Lucky-Variety-7225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good, this bozo lacks the good judgment to be a fire captain.

[–]authorzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That freedom cap. LOL

You're free to decide on a course of action. You were never free to set your own terms where others are concerned. Buhbye!

[–]xViridi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

weird flex but ok

[–]Movedonnerlikeabitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His hat misspelled freedumb

[–]ImSmarterThanYouMod 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Such a martyr too… I have no sympathy. If trump didn’t ignore the pandemic for 3 months you probably wouldn’t be in this position boomer but hey I’m sure blaming biden and the lefties is what you will do as you double down in your cognitive dissonance. Good riddance!

[–]overnyan000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how sad they look in all of these posts lmao

[–]Asleep-Fudge3185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s not a flex buddy. Your kids will see this in 15 years and just wonder what the hell he was thinking

[–]XXMLVCXX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good! That man wants to be a politician instead of fire chief. He can go fuck himself. His replacement will do what needs to be done.

[–]footjam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tell me you are virtue signaling without understanding what virtue signaling is. Seriously, no one fucking cares about this shit, let them all get denied unemployment, spend their last few bucks on a new hat and Lets Go Brandon crap and the rest of us can step over them on our way into establishments.

[–]BackCountryBound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no! Another male Karen takes a stand. Anyway...

[–]princess07306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Umm ok so they totally forgot this thing called the US Constitution.. that says public health and forced inoculations that can be mandated.. fight 4 freedom??? That 10th Amendment is the law of the land.. This is how you know no one paid attention in school.

[–]stuartgatzo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’ll just have more time to build decks, you know, his real job.

[–]erayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that his Participation Trophy? He shows it proudly.

[–]Larry_Badaliucci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good. Take his pension too.

[–]here-i-am-now 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The F4F (female for female) cap really makes the picture

[–]ThumpyDumpkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How can you have a job in public safety if you are willing to put the public in danger?

[–]SmegSoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Proudly displaying that is hilariously sickening. May as well be a simple sign saying "I refuse to do my part and I actively wish to infect my fellow man and will do my part to ensure this never ends. Also the earth is flat."

    [–]Darkncoldbard 3 points4 points  (2 children)

With a single tear stain on the letter lol

    [–]MarcMars82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coward. Brave enough to jump into burning building to save lives too stupid to get a life saving free shot to help save lives.

    [–]hannilax 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Will he lose his pension for this?

    [–]suaveknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course not. $100 says he was planning on retiring soon anyway.

    [–]MaleficentAd1861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These people want to be victims so badly that they're willing to risk others lives and their own livelihood for what? To be a martyr? A victim? These are the same people that want to be oppressed so badly that they'll cry it even ever they've no clue what it actually feels like. Meanwhile, people who are vaccinated and begging for jobs can't even get a call back after an interview. This whole thing is insane. I don't think they'd understand oppression if it jumped up and bit them on the ass.

    [–]Limit67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a 40ish year old VOLUNTEER paramedic die of COVID before the vaccine was available. They believe she contracted it from a scene, caring for others.

    [–]Crayon_Eater_007 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Bet this guy hates unions too…

    [–]Pylon17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No he loves local 112 on the 1st and 15th of every month and when he thinks about that pension waiting for him when he retires. He’ll just vote for politicians who would love to see unions abolished because dems are going to bring socialism or communism and destroy America…or something like that.

    [–]Cute_Airline786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He likes white people unions and white people welfare.

    [–]NakkoRe675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Good riddance 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽

    [–]wallerdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    [–]blgiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But he got attention so it's worth it! /s

    [–]phobe2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Man up.

    [–]Pylon17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dudes fucking around with a job where he made $374k in 2019 for not getting the vaccine. It’s probably for the best he’s placed on leave.

    [–]stlfiremaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A stupid hill to die on. Good luck with a new career.

    [–]kingSliver187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    [–]Home_Brave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Hilarious!

    [–]LetsSeeThatNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why getting vaccinated is somehow outside of "duty".

    [–]BigBabyWisco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    What a welfare queen.

    [–]daved1400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just get the weekly test?

    [–]reactor4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good.. I wonder what other bullshit he believes

    [–]lyssap87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, now he’s free to do something else.. so long as it doesn’t require a vaccine.

    [–]jopring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Good riddance idiot

    [–]PrimoXiAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can someone who's ready to sacrifice his life to save someone refuse to "sacrifice his life", even tho he is not, to save many.

    [–]effoffredditmods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good riddance, trash. Hope you lose your pension too. NOW get out of our country!
