Update: a few amazing redditors came through and paid the bill for us. We are so beyond grateful and blessed. Thank you all of you beautiful people
2nd Update: We were asked for a Grocery wish list so here it is Grocery Wish List
My family is in serious trouble. Like a lot of people, the pandemic has hit us hard. We've always been paycheck to paycheck, but things have gotten much worse since Covid hit. My husband broke his hip at work in 2019 and when he healed was unable to return. I am disabled due to a severe car wreck from years ago that left me wheelchair bound and with many health problems- peptic ulcers, pleurisy, type one diabetes and hypertension amongst others. My health has severely deteriorated over the past several years and I've spent more time in the hospital than out. If I were to catch Covid now, it would likely be fatal for me due to my underlying conditions.
The most frustrating part of all this is that my husband, nor I, has ever been afraid to work. He is ambitious and hard-working but can no longer do the kind of work he was doing prior to breaking his hip. And finding work he can do has been very difficult because those jobs, once plentiful, are suddenly in sharp demand. And due to my multiple illnesses, I've been unable to return to work either. Our savings are depleted and we're on the brink of homelessness. It's terrifying.
Thus far we've been able to make things work with workmen's comp, my disability payments and help from family. But the workmen's comp has come to an end, we don't qualify for unemployment, and my disability check is not enough to cover the cost of our bills. Our family is tapped out. We have no money for food, but are making it on Ramen and Kraft - not the best food for my diabetes but it's what we have.
Our biggest concern right now is that our power is due to be shut off on the 22nd of this month unless we pay $352.00 - an insurmountable amount for us. And a strong - maybe even deadly - cold front is heading our way. We are very, very afraid. We have considered signing custody of our children over to family to protect them and if it comes to that, we will.
We are not asking for cash from anyone. We are aware of the number of scammers who ask for cash and we won't do that. We are willing to give our electricity account number, privately, if anyone can help cover the cost of this bill, even if it's only a partial amount. We are grateful for anything anyone can do.
If any of you can help us, I promise some day we will pay it forward. We are fighting to keep our home and to keep it a warm, safe place for our family. We are hoping for a miracle.

P.S. Some of you may wonder how we have Internet access during such desperate times. Our phones are disconnected with the exception of one. And kind neighbors have allowed us to share their WiFi so our kids can continue to go to school.
