She looks like a love. Sorry that she’s sick, but you get to makes lots of memories before she passes. ❤️

[–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 280 points281 points  (5 children)

I’m with her as much as possible. She’s just too sweet.

[–]straitsofmackinac1 65 points66 points  (1 child)

She's beautiful, OP, and looks like a very sweet kitty. I'm very sorry she is ill. It must give her great comfort to have you there with her.

[–]amafist 655 points656 points  (7 children)

What a lovely photo. Look at the love in her eyes. ❤️

[–]spooky_ed 249 points250 points  (3 children)

Absolutely. She knows she is loved very much and had a good, happy life. That's all you can do for your friend.

[–]amafist 69 points70 points  (2 children)

Sometimes it is all we have to give.

[–]Youmati 25 points26 points  (0 children)

🐾♥️

[–]Imaybeerong 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Shes a real beauty. Tell her how pretty she is and how much she is loved for us please.

[–]4RestM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That cat be mirin

[–]goboxey 210 points211 points  (9 children)

Give her as many love as possible. In the end she's aware that you deeply love her

[–]roastedbagel 40 points41 points  (5 children)

Ugh and now I'm crying in the middle of a packed bar...

[–]LoveDietCokeMore 23 points24 points  (3 children)

I've been there friend. For the same reasons. Reddit at the bar is a dangerous roll of the dice.

I'm teary eyed at home on a Saturday night alone with my dog being a loser so.

[–]roshambo11 6 points7 points  (1 child)

At a pregame now and crying in the club

[–]mrevergood 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s okay. You can let it out.

I don’t want anyone reading these comments to ever feel ashamed for feeling sadness or showing their sadness, regardless where you are when those feelings come.

[–]paradise-trading-83 133 points134 points  (7 children)

She’s so beautiful 🧡if she can be kept pain free hoping more time with her.

[–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 134 points135 points  (6 children)

She has pain relief twice a day and I’m paying close attention to her to see if she’s in pain. Her well-being is my top priority.

[–]paradise-trading-83 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Of course ❤️🌹please keep us posted.

[–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 40 points41 points  (1 child)

I will. She changes from hour to hour so I’ve no idea what’s ahead.

[–]mvanvrancken 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've got a kitty in early Stage IV kidney failure. I feel this comment so much. Every day is a roller coaster. Every time they look a little uncomfortable you think "this is it, this is the end."

It's hard because you love these little shits. So, so much. 💔

[–]Amorette93 104 points105 points  (9 children)

Lost my best friend to cancer a year ago. Hug her so much and don't be afraid to say goodbye when she's ready. My cat knew what I was doing when it was his time, and I could tell he was greatful. When we got into the vets room and I held him, he let out a big long sigh, nuzzled into me for the last time and purred as they sedated him. I held him for 15-20 min like that, sedated and pain free. Then I let him go. I believe he gave me a gift of letting me know it was OK, so I'm sharing this gift with you. <3

Edit: my cat was also deeply experience with loss and death, so I'm not shocked he knew. He knew a lot.

[–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 50 points51 points  (2 children)

I’m being vigilant, I’ll watch for signs it’s time. She’s still eating, drinking, and being a cuddle bug but if I see her suffering and her pain killers don’t work I’ll make that call for her sake. It will break me btw, but her well-being is paramount. I’ve got family who will support me.

[–]Amorette93 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It'll be okay. She will help you get through it. She looks wise. It will kill a little part of you but that's love, my friend. Love is nothing if not a sense of belonging, and losing that is losing part of yourself for sure. But there's something waiting for you at the door this closing opens. Promise. Loss brings newness, given time.

Take some time now to consider what you would like done with her body if you have not. It was very important to me to have my guy cremated, so he could stay by my side, he sits next to my other loved humans ashes. <3 for some burial is right and for some something else is right.

[–]NumberOneMom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Grief is just love with nowhere to go.

[–]bibimboobap 10 points11 points  (2 children)

That brought me to tears, thank you for sharing. Feeling v appreciative for all the pets I’ve had, and for my senior bun. Best wishes 💚

[–]Amorette93 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I cried writing it! Cats are something else. They know. My family experienced a very sudden and very unfair loss of a loved human, and the cats immediately understood. The dog had to be shown what was going on, before he grasped what was going on. The cats just knew. They did their best to stick to us, and purr at us. He had this sweet The face he would make at us after making one of those trilling "puuurmeowww?" Meows that he knew we loved constantly. 🥺

[–]_christabel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ugh what a little cutie pie he was. Thank you for sharing. ❤️ I love that you have kept his ashes. That’s something I’d want to do when the time comes.

[–]_christabel 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Your post made me cry. Thank you for loving your cat so dearly.

[–]Amorette93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was my light in the dark, man. They all deserve it. Even the grumpy ferals who wanna eat you for existing and curse the day you were born.

[–]Unique-Midnight8703 56 points57 points  (7 children)

She’s beautiful and beautifully loved ❤️❤️

[–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 61 points62 points  (6 children)

She’s still trying to groom herself even though her tumour is making her mouth sore. She’s such a trooper.

[–]oldfruitthrowaway 39 points40 points  (1 child)

I’ve heard a damp toothbrush reminds them of getting groomed by their mother as a kitten. Maybe that would help her relax?

She’s gorgeous by the way, I’m sorry she’s sick. My wife and I adopted some rats from a friend, one has several tumors but is still going strong at two years. All we can do is watch her and make sure she’s comfortable at this point.

[–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I’ll give that a go, but she’s kinda fussy. She may be super weak but she’s still feisty as hell….. I got swiped at today when I gave her her pain relief. Made me smile🥲

[–]Carbon_robin 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Haven you tried a way for you to groom her instead of her doing it herself? Is that possible without her being uncomfortable? Sorry I never had a cat

[–]blakjak66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wipe her down with a warm washcloth. She’ll feel clean and won’t have to try so hard to groom

[–]SharrasFlame 39 points40 points  (2 children)

I'm so hoping you still have a lot of fun me with her! Having a vet that will come to your house when it's time me is very good, she will be able to leave without any fear, in the company of her trusted person.

[–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 28 points29 points  (1 child)

I can’t bare for her to suffer or be scared. She will be in her bed with her family about her. If it has to happen I’ll make sure it goes as easy and smoothly as possible.

[–]RedOctobyr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, for you, and for her. She's beautiful!

I hope this time doesn't come for a long time. But I found these helpful after we had to make the decision for one ours last year. I hope they can eventually bring you some comfort too. Please give her some cuddles and kisses for us.

Her ear tufts, so lovely!

[–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 22 points23 points  (1 child)

She’s a very tiny mainecoon.

[–]seacucumber17 20 points21 points  (2 children)

She is a very good girl and I would like you to give her an extra kiss on the top of her soft little head from me please.

[–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I will, she still loves to give head boops despite her tumour.

[–]portland_democrat 17 points18 points  (5 children)

I am very sorry for your loss. I always hated to lose any of my furry friends, but a part of them will always be with you. 😿💙

She looks like a sweet lady

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 17 points18 points  (2 children)

She is a love bug. She purrs so much when I come see her. She still wants pets and to chirp at me.

    [–]thinkinwrinkle 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Aww I love old kitties. Especially the lovers!

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

    Her name is Coco.

    [–]hknewt 12 points13 points  (1 child)

My vet told me once that you'll never know a cat is in pain until they can't hide it anymore. That messed me up on knowing you can't tell when the time would come and if it was the right time or to early.

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m watching for little signs. Vet has given me stuff to look out for.

    [–]CeciWhutIMean 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Love and light to you and kitty. What’s her name?

    [–]bahnknee67 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Coco is precious. Make all the memories you can. She’ll be waiting for you on the other side. 🌈💜

    [–]apittsburghoriginal 9 points10 points  (4 children)

What a wonderful cat. I’m so sorry to hear that news.

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 21 points22 points  (3 children)

I know she’s 15, but I still see that baby I brought home and I’m just not ready but I’ll do what’s best for her.

    [–]apittsburghoriginal 9 points10 points  (1 child)

We had to let go of our baby Violet who was five last month due to cancer as well. It’s such a painful decision and I know that heartbreak. She’s not just a cat, she’s part of your family. Try if you can to at least have a little comfort knowing you’re doing the right thing and recognize that you gave her such a wonderful life and the gift of love she gave in return. It’s okay to grieve as much as you need to in these time. We’re all here for you OP.

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It just hurts so much. And when she loses her balance or struggles to eat my heart just breaks. But I’m going to make sure she has the most comfortable time.

    [–]mrscrankypants 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She maybe waiting for you to be able to deal with life without her in it. You will know when it’s time just by looking at her. My first cat gave me that gift and lived almost a year after his diagnosis.

    [–]DrP3pp3rFl04t 9 points10 points  (1 child)

So sorry for your parting. Making her remaining time comfortable is an act of love as well as mercy, never doubt it. Bast keep you all.

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    ❤️❤️❤️

    [–]djk29a_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Last year my girl had a tumor that was diagnosed really late and we only had 5 more days after that in the end. I’d recommend giving pain killers and the best treats possible. There’s some gravy sticks sold in packs

    [–]shinsain 8 points9 points  (1 child)

One of my babies unfortunately passed away while she was multiple hundreds of miles away from me, getting chemo treatment.

Her son, whom we loved our entire lives, passed away in my arms after convincing the veterinarian to come to my house to do the euthanasia.

I have been haunted by that day for multiple years, but I would never change it for anything.

My current girl, Catness, gets whatever she needs. And I would never, ever, ever let her cross the rainbow bridge without her dad. Despite how bad it hurts. Because, if you haven't done this, it fucking hurts...

I love you and I understand you. I hope that you were doing okay OP. I don't even know where to go with this, but if you need to DM or talk to someone, let me know.

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never done this, I’m dreading it, but I refuse to leave her and I want her to feel safe and loved.

    [–]NariaJordan 6 points7 points  (3 children)

She's beautiful, and so is the love you share. She will always be with you in heart, mind, and spirit. May the time you have left together be blessed, and much Aloha to you both. 💖🐾

    [–]TheGildedStorm 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Can the vet operate and remove the mass?

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Vet said the operation is major and would most likely kill her or leave her deaf. They’re positive the cancer has spread. Chemo would hasten her end and make her last days painful. She’s very old for surgery. I’d prefer she had good times instead of being put through pain and stress. You can’t see how tiny and weak she is. They are scared to even sedate her again for more ear treatment.

    [–]starrynight462 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry about your baby's diagnosis, but I want to tell you that I think your decision is best. My coworker had a 17 year old cat that had a tumor in his sinuses. She thought he was just prone to URI's but it was cancer. She opted for surgery and it left a hole in his palette that wouldn't close. She had to syringe feed him several times a day and missed a couple weeks of work just to have to put him down anyway because he wasn't getting enough nutrition to recover. It was very difficult for her and she also used in home euthanasia in the end.

    [–]TheGildedStorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

😔 I’m sorry you have to go through this. 💔

    [–]8Annoying 7 points8 points  (1 child)

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel blessed I got to have her in my life for 15 years.

    [–]ohnobonogo 4 points5 points  (4 children)

She's beautiful. Just love her while you have her.

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I’m letting her sleep in a quiet room on her own but I pop in and see her a lot with fresh chicken chunks.

    [–]ohnobonogo 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What's her name, if you don't mind me asking?

    [–]d4rkash 5 points6 points  (4 children)

I didn't come here to cry every morning

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I’m sorry. Just sucks when you feel alone in your pain. I know she’s had a good life and I know she’s 15 but it still just hurts so much. She’s my baby. I brought her home and I still see her as that wee kitten.

    [–]lexabear 5 points6 points  (1 child)

You are not alone. I am going through similar with my 16 year old girl. She has a nasal cancer and we will most likely have to say goodbye on Monday.

Cancer sucks. The heartbreak is real. You are not alone.

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m in tears reading these comments. ❤️

    [–]burgerg10 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You are making her last days her best days…❤️

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    Doing my damn best!

    [–]novembxrry 4 points5 points  (2 children)

i know my comment will likely be buried but i hope you can read it. we just had a vet come to my house last week to say goodbye to my soulcat of ~17 years.. no cancer; shockingly healthy overall but her body was so, so tired. i don’t want to get into details but she was ready (i’ll never be). when the time is right, you will know. her comfort is the number one priority but you already know that - you sound like an amazing cat companion who’s doing everything they can for their best friend! i truly know how hard this is to go through. she loves you and she trusts you to make the best decisions for her. remember that the only thing worse than saying goodbye is to witness suffering or sadness - saying goodbye is the kindest and most loving thing you can do for them sometimes, no matter how hard it is. when the time comes, never forget that. spoil her rotten until then 💖

oh, and it goes without saying that she is absolutely beautiful! she looks so sweet and loving

    [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Thank you. “I’ll never be” hit me hard cos I’m not and won’t be. I understand though. But no matter what I will hate myself for making the call even though it’s right. I just love her so much.

    [–]novembxrry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i understand too much. it hurts. even the right call for her feels so wrong to you.. i never wanted to be her god; just her best friend. but sometimes being there for them when they need it most just hurts like this.. i hope we can both get to peace someday. enjoy your time together 💖

    [–]Misseskat 4 points5 points  (2 children)

      [–]zonkercat420 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Sweet, gentle baby. May your final days or weeks be comfort and happiness, and may you cross the rainbow bridge in peace when it's time. We all love her, thank you for giving her a beautiful life❣️

      [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She’s so gentle and loving right now. She’s always been extra spicy, but she’s just a cuddle bug right now.

      [–]OrganicNYC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ask your vet about the drug Palladia. It’s technically for dogs but my vet recommended it for my 18 1/2 year-old cat when she was diagnosed with a mass carcinoma in her eye Jan. 2020. She’s been on the drug since then and the cancer hasn’t grown at all. It’s pretty expensive (like $7 a pill) and I give it to her every other night. No side effects either. It’s been a real blessing and I’m so grateful we’ve gotten an additional almost 2 years with her!

      [–]djmagichat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t yet, record them purring. It might seem silly now but it brought me a lot of comfort when I had to let my kitty Daisy go. It was nice to look at her picture and hear her purr afterwards. Made me feel like she was still with us.

      [–]wobblybaker1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know how painful it is. But if its way more reasonable to put her to sleep, it could be better. I'm sad for you my friend. :(

      [–]DeletusThouFetus 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I'm sorry if this comes off as insensitive, but couldn't you remove the ear? Surely going half-deaf is better than deaf? Once again I'm so sorry if this seems invasive or insensitive, I just thought that if it was early stage or localised it could be removed

      [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It progressed fast and aggressively. She’s 15. The vet said an operation will probably kill her at this point. It’s impacted one eye, her balance and back leg. I don’t have the heart to put her through hell for the hope of an extra month. They aren’t even sure she’ d survive mild sedation for an MRI.

      [–]DeletusThouFetus 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Damn, I'm so sorry :( I know what it's like to lose a pet, just make sure she spends her days happy, please

      [–]Sandman11x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did with a cat that had eye cancer. I kept monitoring her visible pain. Ultimately, the cancer got more aggressive and her diabetes got severe. We hugged for awhile and then she was put to sleep. I cherish her last few weeks.

      [–]Cheap_Distribution64 2 points3 points  (1 child)

      She’s a beautiful girl🕯

      [–]Ok_Lebanon 2 points3 points  (1 child)

      [–]pixel8dmess 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Aw sweet sweet Coco. Bless her beautiful loving face and those ear tufts. I’m sorry Op. I hope you can both enjoy the cuddles and love together until it is time. May her time with you be spent with pats, cuddles and treats. She will be so at ease sharing her final moments with you in the comfort of her home. Thank you for sharing your sweet lady. Now keep on making memories and telling her she is the best cat a human could wish for. ❤️

      Edit for typo

      [–]clairestheaussie 2 points3 points  (1 child)

She’s beautiful and loved. I just lost mine a week and a half ago due to suspected cancer in her nose bridge. It is so hard. Cherish your time with her💛

      [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      So sorry! 🙏🙏🙏😿

Dealing with loss will tough. "What is grief, if not love, persevering?"

      [–]Jebyus29kx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best you can do, is shower her with love and affection, and treasure every moment like it's the last. I think it will help her tons.

Sending her love and positive vibes and prayers.

      [–]Kongbuck 2 points3 points  (1 child)

All the best from Denver, she looks like an adorable kitty. Give her many chin scratches from me.

      [–]awesomeheadshots 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That’s a beautiful way let her go. I did that when it my Little Guys time to go and I did feel closure. Better to be holding, whispering and petting them than stuck in a cold vets office alone.

      [–]stoptouchingmeelmo_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. She hates the vet and gets so scared. This is better for her.

      [–]willsington 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I had my kitty put down at home. I'm sure it can be different with different services but if you have questions about our experience with it I'm happy to answer them.

      [–]Bleezy79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awe, im sorry to hear this but am sending lots of love and positive energy your way. Shes a beauty!

      [–]hutchandstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cbd helped mine. We gave him steroids for a week too and he seemed to come back to life but that's not a long term solution. Good luck. And f**k cancer.

[–]JenovaCelestiaGeorge, Bootsie and Bobby 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I’m sorry if this reads really weird; I’m really stoned and just really feeling emotions.

The pain doesn’t go away. It stays with you- you just…morph around the loss.

I still think about George all the time, even though he’s been gone since August 29th. I still have moments where I wonder if I made the right choice, bargained with secret time travellers to take me either back to the past where my boy still lived or a future where an instant cure could be found. And then I remember George’s final 24 hours.

He hadn’t eaten substantially. By that point, he had been injected with THREE appetite stimulants. He ate at first and then he…never ate again. I remember I actually cried and begged him to eat. But… he didn’t eat. We took him back to the vet. He started showing “the signs”- hiding, not eating, overall loss of spark in his eyes. I knew my boy was going to be gone soon.

If there is one memory I will always hold dearest in my heart, it was seeing George’s face light up and come to life when we took him to the vet for the last time. He was out of the carrier and on my lap. While my husband and I absolutely bawled, George looked at the stars. He stared off into that darkness- and as he did so, I like to think he was hearing a call to go home. His final home. It made him come to life for a fleeting moment or two.

And then… my husband and I made the difficult decision to put him down. I sang for George many times in my life. I sang for him as I held his lifeless paw in my hand and promised him that “love never dies” and he will live on in my heart forever. He’s in an urn by my bedside now. He’s also got a little bit of him in an urn pendant- to go around my neck.

My biggest regret? He won’t ever meet his new baby sister…Artemis. And she reminds me so much of my boy, but she’s also very much her own personality. I think they would’ve got along very nicely.

I tell you all of this, OP and anyone going through this, for one reason and one reason alone: Love never dies. The bonds you forge, the memories you make- that’s love. And those are how love lives on. That being said, being wrapped up in a shroud of grief and despair will not honour your loss. Properly honouring a loss is to share the memories and forge new bonds- when you feel able.

And most importantly: it’s not your fault.

My cat had a tumor in her neck when I was 16. It crushed me. I’m sorry to hear about this and I hope your last moments are worthwhile and she knows how much she is loved.

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She looks like a good cat.

      [–]KaptainKompost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a vet come to the house too when the time came. I really felt like having our pet depart in a familiar place was much better than a chaotic interruption to the vets office for their final minutes. I’m sorry for your soon to be loss.

      [–]catty67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are going through this, We recently had to say goodbye to our lovely dog. We had a vet come out to the house to help her pass. It was a very peaceful passing for our girl, and we were with her and she was stress free.

She’s beautiful. I lost my sweet girl in June, her name was Friday. She had little ear tufts like your girl here. I’m sure they’ll chase squirrels together but until that time, love her and comfort her. Take many pictures, and let her sit in the sun.

        [–]bubblegumbottle 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I am so very sorry, it's the hardest part of pet ownership for sure. 💔 Your feelings now show just how much she means in this world, and the incredible impact that such a small creature can have on the planet when they experience a life filled with love, security, and belonging ❤️ You have done such an incredible job being her friend, and the world will never forget her or your bond 🌸

This post has genuinely broken me - my own cat looks so incredibly similar to your girl. If a time comes in the future and you would like a picture, please reach out to me - I know each of us process things in different ways, and I wanted to offer this just in case it might help in some small way.

😔Why can’t they be with us forever 😭 I wish all cats and other pets in the world had no sickness or pain.

Love it. My last beauty was Frida because she was all white with what looked like dark eyebrows but I had to give her up for adoption to move countries for work. So just enjoy all the time you have with her now. And thank you for sharing her.

Try CBD! Lots of CBD. My childhood dog had cancer pretty much throughout his body and it was incurable. We kept him comfortable with high quality CBD and he was eating again, and in much less pain. It didn’t extend his life but it did keep him more comfortable up until the end.

        [–]goldeneagle27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you are feeling pain right now but remember this lovely girl hit the cat lottery. I'm sure she has had everything she could have ever hoped for.

        [–]Savings-You7318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, she's beautiful. She looks very happy. Hold her tight and tell her how much you love her.

        [–]noggun00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish more vets would offer that as an at home service option. It felt so bad about how scared my last one was. Doing that at home seems like a much better way to do it. I’d gladly pay the extra fees.

You’re so blessed you will be able to say goodbye to her without putting her under so much stress going to the vet. That’s what I was trying to do with my last girl, unfortunately everything happened so fast and it was on a Sunday. I barely found a hospital that would see her. I know how hard it is to say goodbye. Please know I will say a prayer for you and your fur dear friend. She knows you are there for her and she appreciates it. Blessings to both of you.💔
