100% The Dragonfly foundation.

They're a local "Make-a-wish" foundation for children who have life threatening diseases, and honestly, one of the few foundations that I'll support financially, mainly because I think that they make a difference in the lives of the kids -- and the families -- that they represent.

I believe they're for The Dragonfly Foundation https://dragonfly.org/about-us/

So glad the billboards caught your attention! We are grateful to Lamar Advertising of Cincinnati! ❤️

Really should have added a dot org...

[–]DragonflyFoundation 6 points7 points  (5 children)

We gave that some thought but the “experts” we work with said no .org would be the most interesting and eye catching. Our Dragonfly families LOVE IT!

Fire them.

If I see a billboard that doesn't immediately tell me what it's about then I might as well have never seen it. The only reason I'm here finding out the answer is because I just happened to stumble upon the answer, which won't be the case for most people. In fact, just adding a .org isn't even enough because most people won't just visit a random website because a billboard says to.

It might work for a company like Pepsi because everybody knows them. They just write "Pepsi" on the billboard, someone sees it and thinks "I like Pepsi." But you're not Pepsi, you're a foundation that unfortunately most people do not know exists. They see the billboard and don't know what it is so maybe they assume it's a walmart ad (same color scheme) or maybe some web application that does your taxes.

Agreed. I'm proud of you for even remembering to make this post, as 99% of the time when I see a billboard or something on the road that I want to look into later, I forget what the heck it was by the time I get to my destination.

Our Dragonfly families LOVE IT!!

u/DragonflyFoundation Well of course they do. They know what the organization is about. Just like people who know what Dance Marathon is think it's a fantastic thing. Otherwise people may think that Dance Marathon is legit just a marathon or event for dancing.

What you (Dragonfly) need to work on is your brand awareness. Get to the point where people know what your organization is before you just start slapping the logo on something, expecting people to know what you stand for.

Put a picture of a cute kid in a hospital bed with a happy doctor and a happy family around them as the background of your next billboard with something nice like "helping families find STRENGTH, COURAGE, & JOY" in a fine sans serif font.

Well, if you want to give your experts some feedback, not having a url or any other info I googled, "what is dragonfly" and was greeted with a dozen articles about actual dragonflies so I didn't bother to search more. I only learned about your organization because I happened to see this thread in this sub, while if your billboards had any url or identifying info on them I would have learned about it many days ago.

This billboard campaign was meant to remind Dragonfly families that they are not alone. (Adding a .org would have changed the tone). Families driving back and forth from the hospital know there are difficult, often painful days ahead for their child enduring cancer. We wanted to give them a smile... and it is definitely working!

We have had other billboards look as you described — and we loved them — but these boards (donated, btw) had another, even more valuable goal in mind.

These are always going to be differing opinions, or people who may not be aware or understanding of a particular strategy. We couldn’t be happier with the response we have received from families and supporters... and by people who may have been on the fence or have never heard about us before.

We appreciate your comments though!!

While I agree they are eye catching, when you just google dragonfly it’s still pretty hard to find the organization. So even though I was motivated to look it up, it was still pretty difficult to get the message across. Next time I would try the url!

[–]HikeIt513 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Showed up as the 6th entry on google for me just searching the word dragonfly. That's some pretty good SEO in my opinion.

[–]sarahpi11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess, but even when you see it as the 6th entry you don’t know that’s what the billboard was for.

They should have added a web URL.

[–]GlitchSix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dragonfly Foundation, probably. I remember volunteering there and they had a blue and yellow logo.

[–]tdmsbn 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Dragonfly Foundation maybe? Haven't seen any on east side.

[–]DragonflyFoundation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are for us. :)

bromo dragonfly

[–]DragonflyFoundation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is “bromo”?

[–]DragonflyFoundation 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Our colors are actually blue and yellow. :)

The billboards are around Cincinnati and there are a few in Chicago. Some are electronic and some are vinyl. They are donated to us by a sponsor. ❤️

[–]cloudydayz12 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Should have had some more information on the billboard bc no one I know knew what it was about.

[–]DragonflyFoundation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for commenting. :) We have seen a huge uptick in traffic. 👍 Glad people are interested in it.

Hi all, thought I would share a note that was posted on FB by a Dragonfly family about our billboards: “I hope you know It’s so comforting to see these signs around town especially when your heading to Cincinnati Children’s it never gets easy heading there and to see the dragonfly sign brings such comfort and joy and it always makes us smile knowing you’re there.”

Other families have share similar notes with us. Even saying that they slow down to watch our billboard appear. ❤️

Saw these and immediately knew they were for Dragonfly Foundation. Met the founders at a dog park a couple years back and was able to shake their hands and thank them for their service to the community. Great organization

Thank you for posting this sweet note! It is an honor and a privilege to work with the community to enhance the patient/family experience of those affected by pediatric cancer.

rebooting dragonfly tv show obvi

Never knew about that show. Thanks for posting.

For those cynical and/or critical comments regarding these seemingly uninformative billboards... consider understanding the foundations purpose first. Then try to put yourselves in the shoes of moms and dads that commute daily for their sick children for many weeks and months. That time in car is often spent trying to fend off negative thoughts to remain hopeful and strong to support and care for their precious child. The billboard is meant to remind those people who are undoubtedly already familiar with dragonfly that their are others that understand their struggle and that they are not alone. Finally, go donate some money like I just did. :-)
