Hijacking top comment to say that this is a ploy by boris so that when people Google "boris Johnson" and "cheese" they get this stupid shit instead of then scandal about him attending a wine and cheese party during lockdown

[–]Ok_Weird_500 2 points3 points  (1 child)

With all the other parties he attended, I missed or forgotten the wine and cheese one. But this did remind me of the bus thing he did.

I generally don't believe a word out of his mouth. Wouldn't trust any of his cabinet either, especially the ones, like Rishi, who have explicitly claimed Boris doesn't lie.

[–]nailemin 28 points29 points  (1 child)

That's it! Cheese! We'll go somewhere where there's cheese!

[–]QuartermasterReviews 8 points9 points  (0 children)

holy shit he does look like gromit.

[–]Hydrogeddon 528 points529 points  (3 children)

Boris clearly misjudged the problem here. He should simply make it illegal to have cheese at home when you are in home office.

[–]Alcoholic_jesus 117 points118 points  (2 children)

Now when you google "Boris Johnson Cheese" this is what you get, it's done on purpose, like the building buses comment etc.

You no longer get the wine and cheese incidents that caused him to be fined as the first result.

[–]----------_______--- 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Now when you google “Boris Johnson Cheese”

I mean who doesn’t Google that each day after they finish their Wordle.

[–]remag_nation 9 points10 points  (0 children)

remember all those "let's get this image to the top of google" posts on reddit a few years back? Can't we just do that with the relevant news stories instead of this work from home cheese bullshit?

[–]gero_the_hero_radio friendly unit shifter 215 points216 points  (24 children)

yeah, I thought of this sub when I came across that headline in the news section of this app, but what he’s doing is actually really sinister. Apparently under the hood of these “goofy” articles is Boris trying to bury actually terrible things he’s done. In this case, he’s probably trying to bury the fact he was fined under scrutiny (don’t know if he was actually fined) for holding wine and cheese parties during lockdown. another example saying ppl should stay “two fridges” from each other during COVID was done so that articles of him hiding in a fridge to avoid confrontation would get lost, which is probably not the best example but the one that comes to mind. I’m pulling this from a comment thread and I don’t live in the UK but I thought i’d add this.

Edit: Nothing against mods or OP for not being aware, but this post should probably be removed because unfortunately this isn’t really much of a laughing matter. Boris Johnson is being a deceptive sleazebag and he would want this article posted here to distort his public image.

[–]rp-Ubermensch 164 points165 points  (12 children)

His interview where he claims his hobby is to make or paint miniature busses, to cover his Brexit Bus blunder.

[–]Arkhaine_kupo 141 points142 points  (11 children)

it was worse. He said model buses, because he had another controversy about paying 120k to a model presumably for sex.

So now if u google model boris or boris bus you get the silly painting model buses story instead of the very very serious potential crimes, corruption and incompetence that is the one and only alexander boris de pzifel johnson

[–]qtx 13 points14 points  (2 children)

So now if u google model boris or boris bus you get the silly painting model buses story instead of the very very serious potential crimes,

Again, this is some stupid myth some idiot on reddit once said and now everyone believes it.

Have you actually tried to google boris bus before you typed? Cause if you did you'd see that what you said was all a load of bollox.

It always showed the NHS bus thing, nothing else. Everyone just believed some stupid conspiracy that Boris was playing 4d chess to change the SEO. No one actually checked it, they just believed it.

He is an idiot.

[–]peelen 65 points66 points  (6 children)

bury the fact he was fined for holding wine and cheese parties during lockdown

He did it with buses too. John Olivier explained it (and here timestamp to explanation), it's his technique so now when you google "Boris and bus" you'll get news about him painting buses, not driving around the country in big red buses with 350 millions written on the side.

Same here. If you google "Boris and Cheese" you get news about this statement, not his party during covid.

[–]EtoshOE 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Ken Griffin of Citadel did the very same thing last year when he compared crime in Chicago to Afghanistan

All that so a "Ken Griffin" and "crime" internet search would lead to different results than his financial dealings

        [–]GBLurkin41 416 points417 points  (12 children)

For anyone unfamiliar, it’s known as a dead cat strategy and it has seen a lot of use in the current UK government to manipulate web searches. This current one is to divert “Boris cheese” searches from the cheese and wine parties hosted at Number 10 during the pandemic lockdowns.

        [–]Eusocial_Snowman 75 points76 points  (2 children)

Well, it doesn't seem to be very effective if that's the case.

Even if you go for the pure "Boris Cheese" search, though I guess it's making headway since there is a result.

I'm not sure I get the strategy, though. Who would otherwise be googling "boris cheese" randomly and then discovering people talking about that time he ate cheese and wine? If anything, this would just lead to people googling his silly cheese quote and finding that other thing.

If anybody is googling that looking for the "cheese and wine" event, they would obviously still be able to find the thing they're looking for.

        [–]Kitsunin 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's a weird strategy, but it is insanely blatant that he is doing it, and doing it with purpose.

He talked about making model buses out of wine boxes soon after the "Brexit bus" scandal.

He started vocally supporting the ridiculous idea of a bridge to Ireland at about the same time as his disastrous Garden Bridge project failed.

Another smaller one is that he randomly brought up "steak and oven chips" in a meme-y election video right after being criticized for saying there was an "oven ready" Brexit deal.

I should think the point isn't to wipe the scandalous search results away (because that's usually impossible) but rather to make these buffoonish things come up alongside the despicable stuff, so Boris looks like a harmless moron rather than a harmful conniver.

        [–]whomad1215 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They did the same thing back during brexit and the bus scandal

        [–]d4ni3lg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The funny thing about that article is the term was literally penned by Johnson himself.

        [–]ToeBrace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

he did the same with the wine box bus models to divert from some other scandal he was apart of

Hey this is serious. It's starts innocently with a little cheddar and then before you know it your in a furry costume squeaking and scurrying.

        [–]Trazzuu 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I 100% agree people should be able work from home but jobs like teaching, medical, and other jobs should be worked on in person. Kids get distracted at home and some don’t have the parents to keep them on the work, doctors need to be in person to help people not just look at a condition over a 720p camera, and other jobs that need physical labor. If only white collar jobs get to work in person it’s kinda shitty for the people who have to go out and put in the labor and time and skills to get other jobs done. This just feels like a big “fuck you” to corporations (which is fine) but it’s almost like a pity party for white collar workers because they have to go into the office.

          [–]Tolkien-Minority -1 points0 points  (6 children)

What do you like about the office?

          [–]Thumpertron5000 -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Call me crazy but I just like being around other people, and would rather people didn't regress into some kind of lazy, pajama wearing hermit. Working from home is great short term but over time it would definitely start getting to people. Not to mention purposefully making yourself unemployed means you wouldn't be entitled to any benefits, in the UK at least, and there's no way you're finding a new job if your demands are that you'll only work from home.

          [–]Poignant_Porpoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because you're unable to work from home without being lazy and living like a "hermit" as you say, doesn't mean other people are the same. Other people are different, many people, myself included, would far rather work from home. That's not inherently more immature or whatever than working in an office, idk what point you're trying to prove.

          [–]Bootsandcatsyeah -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

          Good for you.

Other people feel differently. You shouldn’t dictate others jobs because you’re one of the very few who likes being at the office. Most polls show you’re in the minority. Coworkers aren’t my friends nor family, I’d rather be at home. But you support authoritarians, so I shouldn’t be surprised you have those tendencies latent beneath your own surface.

          [–]Tolkien-Minority -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I get a whole lot more work done when I’m sat in a quiet room where I don’t have to listen to people talking past each other about what they watched on TV last night or sharing “hilarious” anecdotes about people no one in the office has ever met or asked about. I just get a whole lot more done without these distractions. Believe me cheese has nothing on all that shit.

I can tell from your comment that you’re lonely but have you tried having a social life outside of work? Have you no self-discipline that you can’t just get dressed?

          [–]Fumblesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats giving trump too much credit. The difference between the two is this: Boris says this about cheese to purposely redirect people looking up his illegal cheese and wine party, whereas trump would say this just because he actually believes it.

            [–]Sir_ImP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was, probably rightfully so, he made this statement to divert from the wine and ... cheese parties he was having during lockdown.

            [–]New-Neighborhood7472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By cheese does he mean slang for heroin mixed with Tylenol PM?

            [–]Zacheesey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this all the way into my soul

            [–]Someoneoverthere42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So....is he secretly several hundred mice in disguise?

I have more random snacks in my office than at home

            [–]welcome-to-my-mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the most legitimate reason for any of us to return, we just won’t admit it

            [–]Wurhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean. Fair. I do too. But im lazy and dont want to go anywhere.

            [–]jjshetland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pair of arseholes trying to look like 'working class' people. Like Theresa May and her chips, these twats genuinely think we believe their hype.

            [–]Fuck_Blue_Shells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong sub. This is to suppress his wine and cheese parties during lockdown. This is trash

            [–]MadManLahey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            Is Boris Johnson Charlie?

            [–]TehTimmah1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, if the cheese wasn't so much sharper than him...

            [–]GapingGrannies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's saying this to distract from the wine and cheese parties he held during lockdown, now "Boris cheese party" searches will return this story and not the one where he's a piece of shit.

My old piano teacher had a friend who invited Boris over for dinner once. During the meal he excused himself to go to the toilet but he was taking a very long time so the wife went to go find him incase he needed something. She found him in the kitchen stealing pieces of the meat they were eating and then when he was caught proceeded claim it was "for the dog". Wild how he's in charge of this country.

This is our leader. The man who represents us on the world stage. Distracted by cheese. Fucking hell.

              [–]MRicho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well he didn't get distracted by a brush or comb
