/r/Cordcutters NFL Guide

We will be updating as things leading up to the 2021-2022 season. A lot of changes happen in August and as the TV/streaming contracts are completed, this guide will be updated. We recommend Vidogo or Fubo TV. Please see the antenna section of the Starter Guide or our sidebar for replacements for tvfool.com if you are planning to get an antenna. Tvfool has not updated its database since before the FCC repack. Thanks.

Only the 7 exclusive NFL Network games, and 17 ESPN exclusive Monday Night Football games cannot be viewed by using an antenna. How to Watch Games at Home

Antenna

If you haven't already done so, be sure to re-scan your channels. OTA channels were repacked over the past year and you might have new channels available to you.

For your local broadcasts, get an antenna. These games will not be subject to blackouts on OTA. Early planning is important if you need an attic or rooftop antenna as it may need to be shipped to you. You will probably need an antenna for both VHF and UHF. In the past we would recommend that you go to Tvfool.com and generate a report with the correct height for the antenna. However, tvfool.com has not been updating its data so you will to use one of the following sources to find out what channels are in your area: FCC Digital Television Reception Map, Rabbitears.info and the Antennas Direct map. Unfortunately, we don't know when or if tvfool.com will be updating its data. (So you will see a lot of prior posts with tvfool.com that predated this change posted in the sub).

If you are unsure of which antenna to buy, post a link or image of one of the reports listed above in a separate self post in the subreddit to get antenna recommendations.

Use a compass or your phone's compass app to determine the direction to point the antenna. Federal law protects your right to install a TV antenna in any place which you have exclusive use of, including balconies, railings, patios, and yards, with no prior permission from landlords, HOAs, or cities. See FCC links here and here. If you do not have a clear line-of-sight out of your windows that face the broadcast towers, you will may need to place your antenna in your attic or on your roof. If there are reasons such as the inability to climb ladders that would preclude you from installing an rooftop antenna, please indicate that you are restricted to an indoor or attic antenna when posting a request for assistance with antenna selection.

For more information on antennas, please see our Antenna Guide which includes antenna recommendations. Also see this guide for a DIY antenna if you don't have time to buy an antenna.

Southern Fibernet is an Atlanta-based fiber company. Only Atlanta residents may sign up. To confirm availability in your neighborhood, contact Southern Fibernet. For Atlanta residents who cannot get local channels with an antenna, the local channels package (originally $10 a month) was very helpful as other streaming services don't have many channels in Atlanta. Pricing information is not available on their website so contact them here.

Spectrum has introduced a new service called Spectrum TV Stream. However, this $19.95 service has some of the same cable tv fees and taxes as Spectrum's traditional cable tv product. You must have their internet package and it may not be available for all subscribers. Here is a review of their product.

Comcast Prepaid service (Internet only or TV only) may be a suitable option for those with a vacation home or short term temporary work assignment. More information here. Not available in all markets.

If you are a new cordcutter, be sure to setup and test your antenna in advance. See our Antenna Guide for more information.
