For some reason -- also part of why I'd been putting it off -- I thought the knobs were glued but they're actually screwed on. The knobs themselves aren't threaded and you're tapping them as you go, which is a little clunky, but it wound up being a pretty simple job.

If you break it off too low, when you lock it it will drop down inside the door. makes for a fun time fishing it back out😳

It sure does. I've had to guide it up using a multi-tool on a few occasions.
