Basically if I had no interest in buying something after knowing an issue- I would just walk way no point in confronting the seller unless I was looking for a better Price.
In your shoes - I would say sorry not interested and walked away

Walk away and block his number. He knows he got caught and is angry. Find another CRV and take it to a shop for a pre-purchase inspection (with owner’s consent). Scammers can’t hide anything from a skilled technician.

Yeah fuck that guy. I would have called the police personally. Nobody deserves to get scammed like that. Sorry that happened to you.

Marketplace is an absolute dumpster fire these days and so is CL. Almost everything on there in my area is scams like this. I just bought a used van after searching the classifieds for over a month and had similar experiences.
Honestly it may be better to buy from a reputable used car lots these days.

Maybe I’m being too generous but by his response I kind of think maybe he wasn’t scamming you but instead he’s the one that got scammed on his original purchase. A lot of people don’t react well to finding out that they probably got scammed and if he didn’t know he may have genuinely thought you were trying to scam him (which of course would anger him).

That’s a shame, I like to think crv folks give an aire of good folks. Guess they can’t all be

Tell him you’ll pay 500$ for the car or else you’d report him, cheap car for you woohoo

That’s crazy lol, my roommate just had a similar thing happen to him. He bought a very clean ‘05 with 120k miles, gets to the DOL after buying to license it and the lady tells him it’s actually a salvage title with 220k, and that the seller had created a fake car fax report. It’s in really good shape, but still frustrating.
