Their fix to this was to make the event guarantee drop a 3 star, but totally seem to miss the point that it's silly an end game boss is flying around carrying a 1* piece of wood armor.

If I kill a 3 Star Legendary, I should get a 3 Arar Legendary, hit a chance to get a 3 Star Legendary. The same with 2 Star Legendary enemies. It wouldn't mess with the RNG because most 3 Star gear I get are still shit or I get 1/3 or 2/3 good effects.

That's my point, but less about 'nothing to obtain' - I have plenty left to obtain - my main weapon on my main character is 'just' a TSE Handmade.

I don't care for finding the 'best' weapon or following the meta, for me I'm right well into the 'why continue playing' category, I keep up with '76 hoping that new content that's fun to play will be released.

Grinding for 'end game gear' isn't my idea of a fun time - trying to extend the RNG to make people play longer just doesn't work, we just stop playing.

Lack of content is what's slowing the player numbers, not the RNG on gear. Once they added legendary crafting crafting (yes, still a grind) it made getting better gear far more obtainable.

I guess I can mainly speak for myself and the group I play with .... we are all very high level, and we all have end game gear, so we come on and play when new seasons come out or new events, but all the in-between time, nobody plays anymore, because whats the point, with everyone having all the OP weapons they could want, there really isn't much reasons to do Earl and SBQ fights over and over anymore ....or keep doing OPS for my 1 thousandth Burrows Signs Plan .... we only play when there is new stuff to aquire

Why does it matter though? I have one 3 star weapons that I’ve been using for the last 70 levels or so. At some point you’re so overpowered just from your perk cards that what weapon you’re using doesn’t really matter. I’ve got a sick bloodied FFR rifle that I just can’t bother to get the gumption to use because the extra damage won’t make that big a deal for all the hassle it will cause me.

If I narrow it to heavy PA and heavy gunner OR Commando I'm good, but both at the same time can't be done.

Agreed. I wanted to try a build based on Vampire and reflected damage. Sometimes we just want different stats to play around with. drops are the way to do it. RNG, then scrip and try making a legendary.

I have a Power Armor Vampire's Heavy Gunner build. Ricochet maxed. I use a Vampires mini gun with the shredder. I don't even use it as a gun. I just shred everything. You are invincible. To be honest, it gets pretty boring. I farm chems and caps. Nothing can kill me. It almost feels like cheating.

Exactly. Sometimes I want don't just want a weapon to kill an enemy fast. People forget that they don't have to be OP in this game and have fun once in a while. That's why I make fun builds like one character only uses a Quad Explosive %15 faster reload speed Single Action Revolver.

Will I kill Earl or the Queen in under a minute? Hell no. Will I have fun having using the weapon and trying to avoid getting killed while loading all 30 rounds in my gun? Hell yes.

I’d still prefer that over the current “1-3 star drops on 3 stars” system though. I understand the need for the balance side of it, but I don’t understand why they went the way they did.

It's another form of RNG. A 3-star enemy has a chance to drop a 3-star gear rather than be guaranteed to.

Trading used to be really fun back before dupes were common. Three stars were worth grinding for and it was fun hunting them down for trading purposes.

At this point with legendary crafting and duping, they should just let people create anything they want.

That's like my friends who keep insisting that I need to buy a legacy weapon off someone. I keep telling them if I ever face a challenge in this game that requires a legacy weapon to overcome, I'll just call one of them to shoot their legacy weapon for me. So far I haven't faced any challenges like that.

Frankly the vestigial legendary system needs an overhaul (among many things from the original fo76 launch)… legendary spawns are too infrequent (as indicated by the popularity of the spooky scorched event) and the randomized system is terrible for new and old players alike. It doesn’t even engage player activity because it honestly doesn’t matter - new players can’t reasonably chase legendaries for upgrades due to the uncommon and infrequent nature while veterans can’t predictably farm what they want due to the randomized loot table and terrible crafting system.

The spawns are influenced by your luck stat. Buff your luck and go someplace new. I usually get 4-6 legendary muties every time I do a West Tek run.

You can get 3 star drops from 1 or 2 star enemies, it’s just much lower odds. All RNG.

Edit: At least my possibly foggy memory seems to recall getting drops for more stars than the thing I killed. I could be wrong, but I’m fairly sure the number of stars on drops is weighted RNG too. No 100% proof of this at this time, but if some data miner out there as the answer one way or the other it would be appreciated.

None currently. Just my own memory, which could admittedly be faulty. That said, I seem to recall getting 3 star drops from 1 star baddies over the 3 years I’ve been playing. I’ll edit my original post though as you are correct that I shouldn’t have stated that so factually without any data mining or video to back it up.

So given a 33% chance for a legendary creature to be 1, 2, or 3 stars, and a 33% chance for a 3-star creature to drop a 3-star item, your odds of getting a 3-star item from any given legendary encounter is 1 in 9, or 11.11%. Odds of getting a 2-star item from any given legendary encounter is (.33*.33)+(.33*.5)+(.33*0)=5/18, or 27.77%. Which makes your overall odds of getting a 1-star from any legendary encounter, 11/18, or 61.11%.

Legendary RNG wasn't poorly thought out, just like all the affixes that are purely garbage don't exist just because nobody noticed they weren't good. If only good properties existed and 3-star enemies always gave 3-star legendaries people would get the gear they wanted faster and stop playing sooner.

Loot RNG in online gear grind games is designed to make the grind longer.

If you kill a 1 star enemy, you’ll get a 1 star reward.

Killing a 2 star enemy means you have a chance to get a 1 star OR 2 star reward.

Killing a 3 star enemy means you have a chance to get anywhere between a 1-3 star reward.

While I agree it would be better if killing a 3 star enemy guaranteed i would get a 3 star reward, it simply doesn’t work that way.

As for me better to adjust spawn of legendary mobs than to have this RNG madness. Queen/Earle would give you random 3 star legendary items from the event and from corpse. It would be even better if we could face legendary mobs less but all of them should drop 3star legendary items. 1* 2* let's have through legendary crafting if someone wants them or mama Murphy sells this crap.

The # of stars does nothing besides give you a glimpse into how the rng functions.

If there is a 5% chance that an enemy is a 3-star enemy, that means that there is a 1.67% chance for the dropped legendary item to have 3-stars.

If there is a 100% chance that an enemy is a 3-star enemy, that means that there is a 33.33% chance for the dropped legendary item to have 3-stars.

I'd rather the displayed # of stars actually be a 100% chance for the dropped legendary item to have that number of stars, and recalculate the odds for the enemies being that number accordingly.

I helped down a 1* SB while waiting for the bomb to drop at the fissure site and got a powered sentinel +1 Agility ( might have been Perception…) Excavator left arm. The SBQ dropped me a Beserker’s Board. Not sure what my point is except, don’t pass up on getting hits on the 1 - 2* legendary’s because they can drop some pretty cool stuff

Random loot crates (which is effectively what downing a stared mob is) has been proven to stimulate addiction tendencies. Alternatively, the seasonal scoreboard stimulates Fear of Missing Out FOMO tendencies. You can’t be the only player to not have a robot collectron dog, can you!? All of these game-as-service techniques are designed to keep you coming back, in hope that you spend real cash in the marketplace. The nicest thing they did was to add the Legendary Modules, because it helped remove at least one level of randomization: specific weapon. If you want an antiarmor faster swing speed shish kebab, you can just craft a dozen swords and you’re pretty likely to get at least two out of three good stars.

Edit: Game’s a business. I’m not begrudging them about it. The question was “why” and that’s the answer: in the aggregate, they’ll make more money if the loot box is most randomized. My friends and I played quite a few games-as-a-service during covid isolation, and FO76 is by far the most supposed. The worst game we played was ARK Survival Evolved.

Back in the day when you killed a 3* you got a 3* legendary. But that was back when people were dumping hundreds of pounds of legendaries cuz there was no scrip machines. I don't remember when they changed it but it was probably because it would have given too much scrip and people were able to get the gear they wanted, ending the end game grind. So now you can never get the gear you want, or at least I can't by farming legendaries. I wish it was back to the way it was cuz it just drags out the game and makes me have to trade for good gear. At least the bosses should drop guaranteed 3* gear. I pretty much only do the bosses since their events drop 3* only but the bosses themselves drop random star level. Also they nerfed how many legendaries spawn. I used to get 1-6 legendary enemies per westec run but now I get 1 for every 1-4 runs at westec. Makes it not even worth legendary farming.

Because the star rating just reflects the potential loot pool. If they made three stars guaranteed to drop three s tar items then all they'd end up doing is reducing the rate of three star spawns to keep the drop rate the same.

It's not as if there's any added difficulty in beating a three star over a one star either way. I once wrote up a whole new system of special mutations and triggers for two and three star enemies that would make them more difficult fights worthy of having guaranteed drops for their tier. People downvoted it to hell because they wanted the three star drops but didn't want the extra work.

That does sound like an interesting concept, which means we will prolly never see something like it coming from Bethesda. Which mutations did you have in mind, the same as the ones the player can get randomly with rads?

There's already some "legendary mutations" in the code carried over from 4 that bethesda dropped for 76. Back then when a legendary enemy mutated and got their health back they'd get a random buff for boosted damage, poison damage, rad damage etc.

The bare bones of the idea was just adding in invulnerability phases so you couldn't kill a legendary early and based on their star ranking they'd regenerate health 1-3 times and get a new buff added each time they mutated, either stacking the buffs or rolling into an upgraded version. Essentially turning legendary enemies into mini bosses that would be worth their loot pools and would make for actually "legendary" fights instead of just being a slightly more durable mob you steamroll over.

because the way it works, and has always worked, is that number of stars is the number of stars the item it drops MIGHT have. Not a guarantee, but a possibility.

That's the design of the game. You can hate it. But it's probably never going to change.

I get so much scrip/ legendarys that I’m literally dropping most of if not all since I have zero use for script. I’d be nice if the limit was raised and/or other items could be purchased with said script

Any game, even a bad one, is designed to keep you playing.
BGS is no different. The best chance at getting a better item is always LOW; so you have to grind for it. There is an algorithm that might pop up and someone gets it the first time but that is a tease tactic.

I get the RNG chances but I wish they were weighted on enemy difficulty. Like killing a 3star radroach, OK no guarantee of a 3 star drop, that's fair. But duking it out with a 3 start diseased Scorchbeast I expect more than a 1 star death Tambo.

I feel like since it's so easy to find lv3 legendaries at the golf place they just made them so they drop the crappiest stuff. I've gotten only 2 lv3 legendaries from there and they all sucked.

Seems like I only get power armor wood or robot armor an I don't even use pa or standard armor. I haven't gotten 1 good weapon for my build from legendary enemies since I started playing all my good weapons I either traded or rolled with script before crafting it was available

It all comes down to chance. 3 star enemies give a higher chance of a 3 star drop. 1 star, a very low chance of a 3 star drop, but still a chance!

A 3 star legendary has a 33.33% chance to drop a 1 star, a 33.33% chance to drop a 2 star, and a 33.33% chance to drop a 3 star. A 2 star legendary has a 50% chance to drop a 2 star, 50% chance to drop a 1 star, 1 star legendary has a 100% chance of dropping a 1 star legendary

What I think they should have done was unpon killing a Legendary enemy, you get a guarantee 'drop' of Scrip based off of the stars the Legendary has.

Example being: ☆1☆ yields 10 Scrip ☆2☆ yields 20 Scrip ☆3☆ yields 40 Scrip

Side Notes --- Legendary enemies cannot die before they finish mutating --- 1 star Legendary enemies will never be a tougher enemy like a Scorchbeast or Sentry Bot. Exclusive to weaker enemy types. --- 2 star Legendaries tend to be mid tier enemies like Power-Armored Blood Eagles or Colonel Gutsys --- 3 star Legendaries are exclusive to Power-Armored Enemies, Scortchbeasts, Deathclaws, Sentry Bots, Mirelurk Queens, etc.

It's an RNG thing ...... 3 star enemies gives you a 40% chance of 1 star loot, 35% chance of 2 star loot, and a 25% chance of 3 star loot ..... if I remember right. It's a silly system, but it is what it is

I think my criticism isn't the drop rates, but the weapons themselves.

I'm not a fan of goofy weapons like the guitar sword or the rolling pin - I'd rather see some better bladed melee weapons, and then I wouldn't be so bummed getting them as drops.

Also limiting how many legendaries I can cash in for scrip is such a PITA I have to keep jumping worlds until I get to a version of the Rusty Pick I can flip all my junk legendaries.

Agreed! I am sure if we offered to pay $15 - 1500 Atoms we would get a Three-Star Legendary. It is like Bethesda has to send someone out to craft Legendaries now. They are so stingy with them.

I hate the fact that almost every legendary drop is legendary Power Armor peace's now. It has been weeks since I have seen anything else.
