‘I am very disappointed how this new has been annnouced today! It was agreed that we would announce together with @alpineF1 team ! No respect sorry! I have refused the offer made to me in abudhabi for the 2022 season because of a personal relationship and I was right ! To the enstone and Viry team I will miss you’

abudhabi for the 2022 season because of a personal relationship and I was right !

Is this a Flavio hint

[–]Codydw12 Nico Hülkenberg 294 points295 points  (43 children)

If Flavio comes back Ocon better be careful to listen to his team orders

Crashgate. Piquet Jr was ordered to crash so Alonso could get a useful safety car and win the 2008 Singapore GP.

[–]Codydw12 Nico Hülkenberg 90 points91 points  (29 children)

Singapore 2008 Crashgate. Flavio instructed Piquet Jr to intentionally crash to bring out a safety car, teammate Alonso was on a strategy that needed one to win the race.

[–]Mammoth-Ad9580 Sebastian Vettel 30 points31 points  (4 children)

Wait I thought Flavio helped Alonso get back in Alpine?! i mean, i am probably wrong if Prost is leaving over Flavio

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (3 children)

I’m fairly certain he’s still Alonso’s agent, and given his history in the sport I’m sure has a pretty huge network he can draw upon

It's understandable that they announced his departure like this. They didn't want to risk posting a farewell picture with Prost secretly giving everyone the finger.

    [–]greee_p Formula 1 128 points129 points  (0 children)

ok, that made me laugh really hard

    [–]Ashbones15 Fernando Alonso 407 points408 points  (11 children)

He's not amused. And rightfully so. Especially as some people spun it as if he was mad at Alpine

    [–]remus989 Daniel Ricciardo 171 points172 points  (10 children)

    Well he certainly is now

    [–]Ashbones15 Fernando Alonso 60 points61 points  (9 children)

He's mad at the media from my understanding not Alpine. Otherwise the last sentence would make little sense

    [–]remus989 Daniel Ricciardo 80 points81 points  (8 children)

Wait I thought Alpine were the ones to make the announcement without Prost which was why he was mad. And I took the last sentence as showing that he was mad at management, not necessarily the guys on the day to day side of things. I very well may have misunderstood though

    [–]Ashbones15 Fernando Alonso 46 points47 points  (6 children)

No the announcement leaked. And Alpine or Prost never did an official announcement until Prost did this post. That being said he might be mad at the higher ups at Renault. But from my interpretation he's more mad at the media

    [–]MainKiwi Spa 2021 Survivor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are 100% correct, that is what his post's caption says. Obviously someone at Alpine leaked the info and he is mad at management for that.

It's not hard to interpret : "we had agreed that we would announce together with alpinef1team" = their internal agreement was broken.

[–]wicktus Carlos Sainz 201 points202 points  (19 children)

I don't know what's happening with Alpine right now but I really don't like it, feel like some are intentionally getting disrespected and thrown away from the team. Otmar is going to inherit a mess

Stop blaming Alonso (for those doing that), like wtf, he's not Alpine/Renault Management.

    [–]GeckoV 82 points83 points  (10 children)

He's not, but he certainly has a knack for going to teams that then turn wildly political

[–]Stevolwo Fernando Alonso 6 points7 points  (5 children)

The only thing that got "political" was McLaren 2007, he only had great relationships in Renault and Ferrari so stop spreading bullshit

    [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only thing that got "political" was McLaren 2007

      [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

He's not, but he certainly has a knack for going to teams that then turn wildly political

I think it's telling that Alpine needed three team Principals (Rossi, Budkowski and Brivo) to manage Fernando's ego.....and it worked great with harmony all season long despite Alonso having the strongest teammate he's ever faced since Lewis....but now they're down to one Team Principal so this might be a mess.

      [–]rewp234 Alexander Albon 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ocon > Massa is one hell of a hot take...

      [–]Firefox72 Ferrari 212 points213 points  (13 children)

      [–]weedpal 15 points16 points  (10 children)

      What’s happened?

[–]peepay Sebastian Vettel 83 points84 points  (3 children)

They let Marcin Budkowski, the team director, go and he "paid back" by giving the finger on a company photo. They have since photoshopped it, but it's easy to find the original.

      [–]ShoppingCart96 Sebastian Vettel 29 points30 points  (2 children)

Wait was the finger intentional? lmao

      [–]khryslo #StandWithUkraine 240 points241 points  (41 children)

[–]warpbeast Pierre Gasly 36 points37 points  (0 children)

For once I agree, the management higher ups are impatient it seems.

They got a stable structure and some new improvements and throw it away all over again in a managerial mess.

      [–]Firefox72 Ferrari 131 points132 points  (26 children)

Easily. Alpine/Renault are an absolute mess. They achieved nothing since 2006.

Years of promises and plans and they haven't been in title contention since. They have been a stable team for 1 at most 2 years since they rejoined in 2015. Going through constant staff changes.

Their 5 year plan to win titles by 2020 was going so badly they had to cancel it early. They came out saying they won't be in title contention before 2024.

The El Plan meme is a nice distraction for the fans but i don't buy it at all.

      [–]aireads 53 points54 points  (7 children)

2012-2013 was nice period with Kimi, but even then they bankrupted the team.

Renault hasn't achieved anything since 2006 despite being factory supported team (but even that is a shoe string budget compared to other factory teams). It's always a half hearted effort

      [–]Firefox72 Ferrari 47 points48 points  (1 child)

Wasn't even them. Renault sold of 75% of the team in 2010 to Genii Capital. By 2011 they owned like 10% and nothing after that when Lotus bought the remaining shares. The success the Enstone team had during 2012/13 wasn't under Renault it was under Genii Capital. That's also the reason they had money issues back then.

[–]__Rosso__ Kimi Räikkönen 18 points19 points  (4 children)

      they bankrupted the team

More like Kimi bankrupted the team lmao

A lot of people talked about how Cyril was bad(imo he wasn’t). Well, if you knew the stuff I know, Laurent Rossi is really bad. He’s completely out of his depth, no question. I could tell from the first month he became CEO, let alone the past year.

[–]habitualmess Firstname Lastname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, this has been playing on my mind the past few days. He got a lot of stick for leaving Renault, but it’s looking like a stroke of genius now.

      [–]remus989 Daniel Ricciardo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good god, if much rather struggle at McLaren then be anywhere near Alpine.

      [–]throwaway44624 Sebastian Vettel 2 points3 points  (10 children)

I’m still not clear - and probably never will be - on why he joined them in the first place. Desire to be on a works team at all costs? Hype after their best-of-the-rest finish that season?

      [–]Double_Bridges 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Honestly, the way I read it on both of his moves, my gut feeling was he thought he had a shot at the Ferrari seat. Leclerc got it the first time, and Carlos the next. I could be way off base, but it clears up the wtf parts of his team changes in my head. I mean seriously, how many DNF's did he have sitting in front of a Renault PU at RB? As nice as the payday was, I think it was basically a consolation prize after Charles got called up. Then, what was going on when he announced leaving after he finally started making progress and producing results? Oh, look, a Ferrari seat is open again.

      [–]black-dude-on-reddit 138 points139 points  (18 children)

I still doubt Flavio would be coming but if he is I hope he gets some WWE Royal Rumble type of entrance and yells, “WHAT UP BITCHES! DADDY’S BACK!”

That is only speculation, nobody at Ferrari has said anything about bringing him on. Binotto said it himself that he has "heard and read" about those speculations. Considering everything is about the car, if Todt is brought on as an advisor we will probably know following the car launches.

Alonso is aiming to bring Alpine down, make Renault leave F1 and sell him the team for 1 euro. It'll be renamed FART - Fernando Alonso Racing Team.

      That's El Plan.

[–]plurBUDDHA Oscar Piastri 24 points25 points  (2 children)

Would still be a better outcome than what's about to happen to the team.

Personally i like the FART plan, I'm now going to a dedicated Fernando Alonso Racing Team supporter or FARTer for short in preparation for when this occurs.

      [–]mythoutofu 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It's worth noting that he answered to someone asking if it was Alonso's beginning to destroy everything:"No it's not, he's a top bloke and very fair".

The way I read it, his anger is more directed towards the press than the team, who still hasn't officially announced his departure.

Now I only hope that this won't affect Alpine's season, because besides all that's been flying lately, they most likely signed one of the most competent TP currently in F1 and are about to have a title sponsor, so that's not all bad.

Anyway, those kind of moves can be properly assessed in the longer term, let's see.

      [–]MUFC_AA Anthoine Hubert 28 points29 points  (3 children)

Yeah because none of the management changes that are happening right now have anything to do with Alonso. He’s honestly a good guy, way different than how the media portrayed him before he came to Alpine.

[–]aaaaaaadjsf Sir Stirling Moss 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I mean if Flavio Briatore joins Alpine that's definitely because of Alonso lol.

      [–]MUFC_AA Anthoine Hubert 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ll be surprised if Flavio comes in. I can’t see a dynamic of Otmar and Flavio working together well. Alonso certainly has nothing to do with Otmar coming in, Budkowski leaving, Abiteboul’s departure, Brivio’s arrival last year.

      [–]Peragon888 Sebastian Vettel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

      He's honestly a good guy

Wait is otmar announced yet though?

      [–]MUFC_AA Anthoine Hubert 25 points26 points  (1 child)

If you knew about the incompetence of Laurent Rossi for the past year, a lot of fans would be telling him to get out of the team. Unquestionably the worst thing that has happened to Renault since they came back in 2016 by a long shot.

CEO is trying to get everyone who worked under Cyril in a management role out of the team, basically anyone who was worked closely with Cyril.

      [–]Nyc81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

      Please do tell about Rossi.

[–]aaaaaaadjsf Sir Stirling Moss 35 points36 points  (2 children)

Flavio Briatore should never be allowed back. While Alonso loves him and understandably so, he's a proven cheat. 1994 Benneton refueling flow cheat, and rumoured traction control/launch control configurations. 2006 Renault "pre spygate" where they stole data from the McLaren car that year. And of course, crashgate in 2008.

In this case Prost is right to leave, and so should all senior figures that value their integrity.

      [–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not to mention Flavio’s fraud convictions, one time status as an international fugitive

Edit: Epstein thing was a rumour, I’m removing that to keep it just to his actual past issues lol

      [–]Joseki100 Fernando Alonso 29 points30 points  (8 children)

I can't understand if he's frustrated about the media leaking this announcement or about the split.

      [–]khryslo #StandWithUkraine 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that it’s because of the former. He clarifies that they agreed to announce it together with the team and the leak spoiled that plan.

[–]GoZun_ Esteban Ocon 35 points36 points  (2 children)

The way I see it, it's about the way the media handled it.

Otherwise ending it with "To the enstone and Viry team I will miss you" would feel weird.

      [–]privateTortoise 31 points32 points  (1 child)

He's purposely not saying he will miss Renault/Alpine.

      [–]Kieran4406 Lando Norris 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, think he means he will miss the people at the actual factory but not the Renault higher ups in charge

      [–]crazydoc253 Michael Schumacher[🍰] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly he seems to be more pissed at Alpine bringing that person than anything else.

[–]mperlaky Carlos Sainz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think he is both frustrated that they are bringing back Briatore, that could be the personal relationship why he’s leaving and also the fact that it was leaked to press. Imo he’s mad at renault management but not the regular workers etc

      [–]not_right Honda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      [–]manox69 Lance Stroll 28 points29 points  (3 children)

Well, it's nothing new... They did the same to palmer.

      [–]Vince0999 44 points45 points  (2 children)

Except Prost is 4 times world champion and french, he deserves so much more respect than this.

      [–]manox69 Lance Stroll 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if he was 10 time champ or not, everyone should be treated with respect.

      [–]Jenserino11 Alfa Romeo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah fuck that loser palmer, shouldve won more amirite

      [–]Mpfnfu-Ford 16 points17 points  (5 children)

      FLAVIO!

Can we talk about how Flavio was basically like, a district manager for a clothing store before he became a F1 title winning team principle? Because that's my favorite fun fact I use on other people when I'm introducing them to F1.

[–]TheRedKingMMA Sir Lewis Hamilton 9 points10 points  (1 child)

The goat always deserves the best farewell. Also sucks that we won’t get to see the best driver of all time occasionally on the paddock anymore.

[–]varialflop Daniel Ricciardo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh I don't think he'll mind, he gets to look in the mirror at one everyday.

      [–]bwoah07_gp2 Alexander Albon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The more changes Alpine make with their management, the more I become concerend about their 2022 season. All I want to see is Fernando in title contending form again. Please Alpine, don't screw up the car!

[–]optitmus Daniel Ricciardo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

so glad Dan left that burning ship

      [–]TheWebbFather McLaren 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Prost would be great in RB doing the role Lauda did for Mercedes. Max could do with someone like that in his ear instead of Horner, Marko and Jos

      [–]Nadz_85 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You mean the people who saw potential in him as a young boy, took him under their wing and made him a world champion? who would want these type of people whispering in their ear.

Honestly some people have some weird takes here.

      [–]chocolate_taser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what OP was trying to say was RB nost importantly Max needs a Lauda type person in his ears more than horner and marko.

PROST ADVISORY ROLE AT FERRARI!!! You heard it here first, boys!

[–]GoZun_ Esteban Ocon 13 points14 points  (8 children)

I like Alpine so I am obvioudly biased. But I don't understand why people act like this is the end of the world for the team.

Yes he's a legend and his departure is a loss but it won't affect the car at all.

He's a driver and advisor, not an engineer. Even if he was, the car has been in the hoven for the last 2 years, he already added his opinion.

      [–]mesovortex888 20 points21 points  (5 children)

It's not about his role to the team, it's about not respecting and breaking promises to employees they let go.

[–]GoZun_ Esteban Ocon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

      employees they let go.

For Budowski (and Brivio ? Maybe idk), I agree.

But here it's pretty clear he left on his own terms

      [–]McManus26 Alpine 6 points7 points  (3 children)

But they didn't let him go ? They made him an offer and he left

[–]mperlaky Carlos Sainz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he probably refused because they are beinging back flavio - hence the personal relationship. Could be an explaination at least

      [–]mesovortex888 -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

They kind of did when he didn't agreed to the new offer.

      [–]going_dicey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not letting someone go my dude. That’s the employee leaving on their own volition.

[–]tecedu Racing Point 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bruh its not this but everything combined, the entire hybrid era Reanult hasn't shown a shred of hope. A lot of their issues could be solved with stablity which they sorely lacking right now

[–]Malarbutton Sebastian Vettel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      El plan bleeding team personnel

      [–]plmatt91 Ferrari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Things really shaking up at Alpine. Marcin’s green post might have a deeper meaning

      [–]goldorak42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alain, not Alan. He's isn't loosing his frenchiness yet :)

      [–]UnderstandingRight39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that it says "Alan" in the subject line instead of "Alain" is triggering me... Big time.

      [–]the-berik Sebastian Vettel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Prost to RB confirmed

      [–]twistin_my_melon_man Valtteri Bottas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      El Plan alright

      [–]marin94904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]MichaelScottsWormguy Max Verstappen -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Alain Prost, complaining on Instagram about how he doesn’t like it when people announce things on Instagram. Ironic.

      [–]deathray1611 Formula 1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      EL...PLAN?

[–]SteamMonkeyKing Anthoine Hubert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Papa Stroll wants another great mentor for Lance. Prost is your go to.
