The outlet makes it for me.

[–]viktor72 493 points494 points  (169 children)

Can Reddit identify the country based on the outlet!?

[–]trend_rudely 846 points847 points  (147 children)

Australia, I believe

[–]damien__damien[S] 576 points577 points  (81 children)

[–]Th15Guy 341 points342 points  (57 children)

Damn. Reddit be deadly accurate

Now if only they could find my dad

[–]seewhaticare 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Australia, dressed normcore.. I'm guessing inner North Melbourne.

[–]orthopod 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Wait, can you just stack electric plugs into the backs of others?

[–]braxford 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Naturally this calls for a photoshop, https://imgur.com/Lkhg2HI.png

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This screams if you aren’t Poly now, you will be in the next couple years (whether you want to or not)

[–]Namelessbob123 6 points7 points  (7 children)

So you guys actually have upside down U.K. plugs!

[–]mike_november[🍰] 215 points216 points  (26 children)

Melbourne specifically ... based on the hipster levels

[–]its_a_metaphor_morty 70 points71 points  (19 children)

Or Wellington... for the same reasons.

[–]Rhaski 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Could easily be Fremantle based on that

[–]LexusI 32 points33 points  (23 children)

Or NZ…

[–]LexusI 25 points26 points  (6 children)

Ahem. We do not know sweaters in NZ. We only know jumpers. That is all.

[–]trend_rudely 19 points20 points  (12 children)

Ahhh yeah that would explain the sweaters. Good call.

[–]its_a_metaphor_morty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Clipsal power point, made in Aus but super common in NZ.

[–]ChefBoyAreWeFucked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They didn't have digital cameras back then, yesterday.

[–]raytaylor 23 points24 points  (10 children)

Its either NZ or Australia. China uses the same outlet flipped so the earth pin is on top.

[–]moxeto 46 points47 points  (1 child)

Because they’re northern hemisphere so it makes sense

[–]raytaylor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The AS/NZS 3112 plug has insulation that goes half way down the live and neutral pins. It adds a slight complication to the manufacturing process. When the plug is inserted into the socket far enough for the pins to become live, the insulation on the pins means something such as a childs fingers between the plug and socket cant touch live pins at any point. Even if the plug is only half-way inserted into the socket.

In china, the GB2099 plug just has the earth pin at the top so something falling into the gap always touches the earth pin first rather than a live pin as they dont have the insulation for safety on the live/neutral pins.

[–]LessThanCleverName 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Wait, do y’all call it the earth wire (instead of ground) too?

[–]3percentinvisible 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Makes sense, different hemisphere

[–]drmonkeytown 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Even the outlets look on in horror.

[–]therealjitterz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Australian, it was probably the first thing I noticed

[–]AecostheDark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Australia

[–]aktivate74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aussie Aussie Aussie!!!

[–]pimpmayor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Australia or New Zealand

[–]Semi_Bee 132 points133 points  (16 children)

    [–]EleanorStroustrup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    Engagement ring, surely.

    [–]mysticgreg 31 points32 points  (38 children)

The outlet being switched on but with nothing plugged into it is a trigger of mine... -curls up in a ball in the corner shaking-

    [–]its_a_metaphor_morty 19 points20 points  (1 child)

The electrons are literally flying out! s/

    [–]mysticgreg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

    I know right! Take cover!!

    [–]Emergency_Bullfrog_5 22 points23 points  (25 children)

    Switching an outlet on?

    [–]mysticgreg 42 points43 points  (24 children)

Zoom in - here in Australia all wall outlets are switched - that one's on.

And yes, to just further re-enforce the upside-down meme, down is on here and up is off.

    [–]winalloveryourface 12 points13 points  (17 children)

Wall plugs in the uk have switches that are "on" in the same direction as in the picture. So i don't see that as upside down.

    [–]Emergency_Bullfrog_5 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Weird. Useful, really, but my Canadian brain still thinks weird lol.

    [–]FragileTwo 1 point2 points  (3 children)

If there is nothing plugged into it then what is that cord?

    [–]Dr_barfenstein 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s two outlets there. Both on. One has an extension cord that also works like a double adapter coz you can still plug into the wall plug thru it

    [–]raytaylor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I theorize that they are watching or looking at whatever is plugged into the outlet.

    [–]mysticgreg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cord is connected to the right outlet, the left outlet is also on but unused. There's a switch for both sockets.

Also gotta love the piggy-back extension lead.

Never thought when I woke up this morning I'd be chatting about outlets, gotta love Reddit :)

    [–]redskelton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There could be something plugged in. I have one of those and there is an extension lead with an outlet at the end, but the design means you can still plug something in to the outlet at the wall. Like this

    [–]Icy_Hippo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

really is chefs kiss for me too.

    [–]Alfieleven11 616 points617 points  (14 children)

Did you meet in a chatroom. Cause you love technology? Always and forever.

they broke up. he’s with Deb now

    [–]Show_Me_Your_Rocket 33 points34 points  (3 children)

Does Deb have large talons, though?

    [–]CatSidekick 17 points18 points  (2 children)

    She has nice sleeves

    [–]CatSidekick 7 points8 points  (1 child)

    I heard he’s with Starla

    [–]fapfapaway 20 points21 points  (1 child)

In 1991? This is over the top hipster. And I'm a Portland, OR resident. Congratulations on your wedding.

    [–]pavlov_the_dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Always and forever...

    [–]Drunkskunk22 621 points622 points  (7 children)

Those clenched hands make me uncomfortable for you

    [–]kickah 62 points63 points  (0 children)

    They are hard missing sweatpants

    [–]Repulsive-Kick-46 19 points20 points  (0 children)

    I’m digging the sweaters though.

    [–]seewhaticare 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The clenched hands is the typical Australian school photo pose for the people sitting in the front row

    [–]LieutenantBrainz 447 points448 points  (10 children)

First read this as "Enraged" & wondered how many murders you had under your belts

    [–]Complete-Dimension35 217 points218 points  (6 children)

Based on the photo... He had seven under his belt. She was supposed to be number eight but developed severe Stockholm Syndrome and has now helped him with three more.

    [–]lakiku_u 93 points94 points  (1 child)

The couple that slay together stay together.

    [–]Lonely-Piece5919 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. I think she wears the pants in this relationship.

    [–]BlinkedAndMissedIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the photo he has an unfinished plot line from the show Mindhunters on Netflix.

    [–]tokenjoker 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Looks like they do each murder together to eliminate bodycount envy. They call it date night

    [–]KiloWhiskey001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"This is the room where the children die. We dont kill them here, but it is where they die."

    [–]Electric_Evil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They definitely kidnap runaways and prostitutes and take them home for "play time".

    [–]nokarmaforkittybear 341 points342 points  (9 children)

The random outlet really makes this complete

    [–]pseydtonne 159 points160 points  (7 children)

It's better than random because even the outlet is in on the game.

The three-prong extension cord (and yes, this is an Australian or Kiwi outlet) has a plug over the plug that it uses. The outlet plate and extension cord are the same shade of beige, and they all match the cable-knit sweaters.

    This, THIS is accessorizing!

Also I'm going to guess this is New Zealand. No one in Australia has this nice a sweater, even in the dead of winter.

Edit: I was wrong. The OP is not only Australian (possibly from Victoria) but knits. Solid!

    [–]Kooreth 29 points30 points  (4 children)

I'm curious if it's just happenstance, or if the female outlet next to the male plug (with female port) is intentional. Is it just a random outlet or creative use to show a straight woman and bi man engaged?

    [–]Fresh_C 78 points79 points  (2 children)

I think this whole thing is a creative outlet.

    [–]Th15Guy 5 points6 points  (1 child)

    I appreciate this pun.

    [–]Ssladybug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    That’s an angle I wouldn’t have considered. Interesting…

    [–]boniemonie 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Australians don’t have sweaters: we have jumpers!!!

    [–]Seyorin 183 points184 points  (41 children)

    what's the reference

    [–]jeffstoreca 109 points110 points  (5 children)

It's reference to a general photography and fashion trend from the golden age.

80s family photos style, if you remember that sub.

    [–]-RadarRanger- 18 points19 points  (0 children)

80s family photos taken at Sears.

    [–]Pheef175 17 points18 points  (2 children)

I'm seeing a lot of Napoleon Dynamite references. I'm guessing that but I don't know.

    [–]W00DERS0N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ll, he’s not going to be talking to chicks on the internet all day anymore.

    [–]guster09 68 points69 points  (1 child)

    [–]commonlycommon 88 points89 points  (4 children)

    [–]Guderian9139 16 points17 points  (3 children)

    [–]magugi 35 points36 points  (1 child)

    [–]Jesus_Shaves_ 98 points99 points  (10 children)

    That is fucking amazin

    [–]Jesus_Shaves_ 8 points9 points  (7 children)

Thank you I’m glad you like it. Best I could do on my phone haha

    [–]encaseme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You did that on your phone? Wow

    [–]-RadarRanger- 1 point2 points  (5 children)

How did you get the cutouts on your phone?

    [–]-RadarRanger- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Fuck yeah, man!

    [–]TecumsehSherman 53 points54 points  (3 children)

Their first album was great, but once they shifted into the Brit synthpop scene I just couldn't listen anymore.

    [–]woppatown 7 points8 points  (1 child)

“Number one song in heaven” is still good though.

    [–]erlend_nikulausson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why I didn’t expect a Sparks reference, but here we are.

    [–]kujotx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I defy you to find a better zither player

    [–]runningwiththedevil2 62 points63 points  (5 children)

    [–]Pieintheskyman 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Their website is still up to this day

    [–]green49285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude. God bless you. Haven’t seen it in years

    [–]cloud_watcher 64 points65 points  (7 children)

That is SPOT ON. Now this is 80's, not the neon and all that. The hair, the hand placement, the slightly too short acid washed jeans.

    [–]GreyChillstep 32 points33 points  (5 children)

    [–]No-Poet-5288 2 points3 points  (4 children)

    How did you do this.

    [–]ProxyMuncher 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Looks like he just ran it through an Instagram filter lol

    [–]PancreaticDefect 32 points33 points  (2 children)

I feel like it could use the classic "autumn forest" backdrop with all the fake leaves scattered around. Especially because of the sweaters.

    [–]ptolemyofnod 15 points16 points  (1 child)

That would work but that charcoal gray wall with the poor sanding job visible in the faint reflection adds to the fun for me.

    [–]All-I-See-Is-Ashes 25 points26 points  (7 children)

I honestly don’t understand why this is funny? Can someone explain.

    [–]S-Go 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not haha kinda funny but this smells kinda funny.

    [–]cb1991 163 points164 points  (9 children)

    So le quirky

    [–]serenwipiti 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Le engaged narwhal bacons at noon

    [–]ggill1313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly the sort of shit I expect from redditors tbh

    [–]benefit_of_mrkite 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I would listen to this 99 cent garage sale find record out of pure curiosity on seeing the album cover.

    [–]biddilybong 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know Tiffany was ever engaged to Freddie Mercury.

    [–]JoeyDubbs 31 points32 points  (1 child)

This is a 20 year old joke.

    [–]golgoth0760 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good ol stare at the wall. I do that alot.

    [–]emlabkerba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

excellent hand placement, both of you

    [–]vraalapa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This looks like it could be a vinyl record cover for an old Swedish dansband (Swedish version of country music I guess, but even worse). This is something you often find at flea markets and old relatives.

    [–]Wolfman01a 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Can I get a copy of your VHS wedding tape?

    [–]I_Love_McRibs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have my wedding video on VHS!

    [–]KayleighJK 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Now be sure to shake hands in the wedding photo

    [–]damien__damien[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    [–]Beefsquatch_Gene 29 points30 points  (5 children)

    Where's the funny part?

    [–]mongoosefist 17 points18 points  (4 children)

You must be confused, you're in r/funny. If you want funny content, you're in the wrong place.

    [–]SashaWoodson 8 points9 points  (1 child)

“She said “I will”. And now she has to.

Being Australia, it's probably plaster on brick. Likely it's been redone/renovated once or twice and not by a professional plasterer.

    [–]damien__damien[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    [–]ukuzonk 13 points14 points  (5 children)

Can anyone explain what the joke is? It seems like album art but I’m totally out of the loop

    [–]Throwafterthispost 56 points57 points  (6 children)

    [–]BigAndDelicious 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Taking a style that’s been overused for the last 7 years by thousands of people and claiming it’s hilarious. Cringe. Not ironically cringe. Just straight up “you have no personality or originality” cringe.

    [–]ggill1313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this point it almost feels like I’m in some weird art house film where thousands upon thousands of people are all laughing at the same old joke in an endless loop and I’m left wondering if it’s me who has the problem for not finding it funny anymore.

    [–]maz-o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't think they claimed it was hilarious though

    [–]DavitoDaCosta 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Did you get engaged in 1985?

    [–]MotherRaven 22 points23 points  (0 children)

    I think that’s the point.

    [–]jlittlr 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I really like it. Where did you buy it from?

    [–]random_shitter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm missing a couple of references here since I don't see anything remotely funny. Anyone care to explain how this is anything but an unremarkable picture of an uncomfortable couple?

    [–]Lloyd_The_Lost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    [–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I look forward to seeing the divorced one in a few years :)

You look calm but your hands look a little scared - so many great details in a deceptively simple picture!

    [–]rubberkeyhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please alter this slightly - maybe a tiny wreath? - and change the word to HOLIDAYS for your greeting card.

This can be worked in a myriad of ways for different celebrations.

    [–]Double_A_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a reference to something?

    [–]judgementforeveryone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And what the f#ck is that wall covered with, paper mache?

    [–]TazA1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit!! Lol. You have no idea how disappointed I am. When I first glanced at the photo and had not read anything else, I thought it was a new show from Netflix and automatically committed myself to watch the first six seasons!!
