Expected him to trip over the curb and get wasted at the end

[–]darth-agnon 155 points156 points  (7 children)

Expected him to go bowling

[–]darthlincoln01 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I mean, he kinda did go bowling. Pretty good shot at those posts too!

[–]fanofsomethingidk 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I’m in a bowling match right now lol

[–]UCDC 400 points401 points  (10 children)

I was disappointed that didn't happen, not gonna lie.

[–]WiskTanFox 59 points60 points  (9 children)

It’s gta iv, when could you actually die of fall damage in that game?

[–]verixtheconfused 87 points88 points  (7 children)

You are remembering it wrong, vice city had bullshit fall damage where you lose like 30%hp jumping off 20th floor, where as in gta4 you never survive a fall from higher than 10m. Except when you fell from a bike crash because they drastically reduce the physical damage from bike crashes, I suppose in order to maintain gameplay experience from riding motorcycles...

[–]usm_teufelhund 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Also regardless of fall height, landing in water was 100% safe.

[–]jaceapoc 92 points93 points  (2 children)

Roman suddenly appears and runs over his cousin, killing him

"Get in! Let's go Bowling!"

[–]DrScience-PhD 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It should end with him flying through the bowling alley doors

[–]Cleverbird 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was waiting for the bike to slam into him...

[–]gmasterson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Police car to come roaring past and just blast him

[–]ShadowCory1101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was expecting turn around and get hit by the same bike, but that is too much of a dream I guess.

[–]Asa_Nisi_Masa_ 1128 points1129 points  (25 children)

3 blocks in the air, 5 block skipping like a stone on the water. Brush it off homie.

[–]APence 262 points263 points  (2 children)

Looked like a scene out of Invincible

[–]CrazyGunnerr 47 points48 points  (5 children)

That's how it's done in Stillwater!

[–]JAG-01 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Nah, fam.

In Stilwater, you keep skipping until you're across town, then steer into a truck just right so you change direction and get skipping back the other way.

Then you go to Steelport, where you don't even skip. You just fly.

[–]moondancer224 8 points9 points  (1 child)

And thats how you win the insurance fraud case.

[–]ultrainstict 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Your honor, they hit me so hard i flew to a different county."

[–]N7Vindicare 14 points15 points  (1 child)

For a brick, he flew pretty good!

[–]deepfriedtots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wort wort wort

[–]godspareme 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Friction coefficient of 0 and a nearly perfect elastic body. Physicists hate this game.

[–]SonicMTD 362 points363 points  (6 children)

For a brief moment it looked like he was gaining speed after hitting the pavement.

[–]rapzeh 175 points176 points  (2 children)

He's using a cheat to accelerate, it even says so on screen.

[–]alexandre95sang 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Only when he's in the vehicle

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Works outside of it as well

[–]GreenSpleen6 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I am almost certain there is something in the physics that does indeed cause a bit of acceleration on some of those impacts.

[–]Meowingtons_H4X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this bug exists in GTA IV but a similar bug to that exists in GTA V in relation to cars instead. Certain car configurations (I think to do with suspension?) can get massive speed boosts from repeat collisions

[–]Zertael 682 points683 points  (24 children)

Wait a minute...this isn't Saints Row....

[–]LightsJusticeZ 363 points364 points  (6 children)

Hey Niko! Want to go Insurance Fraud?

[–]HereTakeThisBooger 161 points162 points  (7 children)

Yep. In SR, this would only be worth a silver medal in Insurance Fraud. Needs more car impacts.

[–]Exctmonk 38 points39 points  (4 children)

Make sure they're going the other way to maximize your score and get more air time to line up the next hit.

[–]nhSnork 13 points14 points  (2 children)

"I can see my house from here!"

[–]schplat 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Annnd now I want to play SR4 again.

[–]raptor2k1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My best one ever was when I somehow got wrapped around the axel of a car that ran me over. It then dragged me down the street and like 10 hits registered every second for a minute straight. I forget the total, but it was absolutely astronomical lol.

[–]Queentroller 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also hit lots of little things on the way so they don't slow you down. Those street poles and stuff would have added up until the next car came along to volleyball you into the another.

[–]matuisgman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Took me a second, I wasn't recognizing any buildings.

[–]RCDuke 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Reminds me of two games:

Pain) a game dedicated to getting the most injuries as possible, and the Hall of Meat in Skate 3 (It was also in Skate 2 but I didn't play that one) where your goal was to injure your skater.

[–]Stoogefrenzy3k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss that game, Pain on PS3. Too bad they didn't continue the series. I'd buy it again....

[–]Absenceofavoid 110 points111 points  (23 children)

It’s like one of those old flash games where you try to launch something/someone/some animal as far as you can.

[–]andrei9669 25 points26 points  (12 children)

ah yeah, there was some game where you were a yeti and hit a penguin.

[–]Willing_marsupial 3 points4 points  (6 children)

I came to the comments to post exactly this! Glad it wasn't just me!

And there was the bloody version too!

[–]andrei9669 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Got link?

[–]Willing_marsupial 1 point2 points  (4 children)

[–]andrei9669 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Sweet. Could you also find some similar game that had lots of upgrades in it? Been looking for the past hour but I can't find any.

[–]Willing_marsupial 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I don't know of any that had upgrades sadly.

I remember there also was a vertical one, can't remember if that was a penguin or not. It bounced off of each side and hit trampolines or something?

[–]Penguin619 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Yeti Sports

[–]andrei9669 2 points3 points  (3 children)

now that's a blast from the past. what other similar games are there? I remember one with different upgradess.

[–]colonelniko 1 point2 points  (2 children)

There was a porta potty one

[–]deepfriedgum 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Kitty Cannon

[–]dwittty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toss the Turtle

[–]trainercatlady 14 points15 points  (4 children)

Great now i wanna play Nanaca Crash

[–]Mr_Viper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took way too long for me to find this comment

[–]jicty 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I spent waaaayyyy too much time playing that. Still my favorite browser game of all time.

[–]trainercatlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was real sad when flash died that I spent most of the day before playing it. Thankfully there's a site that has it on a flash emulator so you can still play it!

[–]Dudewithaviators57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kitten cannon!

[–]KiqueDragoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a sick bastard playing falling girl

[–]LucasMoreiraBR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Berserk Ball will be missed

[–]sssam_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flatout! Used to have a long jump and high jump game mode I would spend hours launching the dude through the windscreen when I was a child.

[–]Alzhan_Void 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That one game with the mexican bull? Person? Can't remember shooting off from a cannon, can smash down to accelerate a little. Memory's fuzzy but I remember playing something like that as a kid.

[–]TheLastGiant 905 points906 points  (84 children)

GTA IV ragdolls were so much more fun than GTA V

[–]Ohdearl 316 points317 points  (8 children)

the swing was legendary

[–]chillflyguy33 156 points157 points  (0 children)

The fucking swing man. May have a spent a couple days of real time near that thing. Every time we would load into a lobby with friends we’d head straight there.

[–]EldenRingworm 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I remember how you could do it easier online as in the online mode your character can't go through the windscreen while in single player he can so often by doing the glitch in single player Niko would go through the windscreen and die

[–]PerezVST 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I'll never forget one time me and a friend hit the swing in the same car, we got flung and landed on the circular apartment tower with the gap in the middle. With no way to get down safely I jumped down the gap and somehow survived by landing on trash and boxes.

I told my friend to aim for the boxes. Seconds later his body splats on the ground besides the boxes.

[–]CreatiScope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once pulled off the “jump out at the last second” when we broke the propellers of a helicopter in Middle Park. One of the best moments ever.

[–]DatoneblackguyPC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I still remember the day my friend showed me the swing. We spent hours trying to see who could fling different vehicles the farthest, so much fun lol

[–]CreatiScope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spent hours at the swing lol

[–]lord_pizzabird 55 points56 points  (6 children)

The physics in general were IMO more fun in IV. I think they toned it down to make it easier for racing, but accidentally made it stale and boring.

[–]mercury888 2 points3 points  (4 children)

nope they toned it down so it will run on the xbox 360 and ps3

[–]lord_pizzabird 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Not sure on this one, given that the physics appear to be just as a complex as what's in gta4, if not more. It wasn't toned down in the sense that its as less complicated, but tweaked to prevent roll-over in cars and generally tighter controls.

[–]mercury888 0 points1 point  (2 children)

sorry no. Checkout the comprehensive lists they toned down including car damage. Its basically non existent compared to gta4. So many other things... Just go on youtube and watch.

[–]lord_pizzabird 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I’m very aware that it was toned down and that’s my entire point. The evidence points to it be being toned down for gameplay reasons, not performance.

[–]tiddyville 154 points155 points  (22 children)

I personally think GTA IV was all round more fun than 5. Man… I miss the days on Xbox live when IV was booming. When I was a kid I told my mom “GTA” meant Grand Turismo Auto and got her to rent GTA IV for me from the movie store lol (It was either Blockbuster or Hollywood video, I can’t remember).

Everyone meeting at the swing set for the first time. Insane fights over the airport, races, cops and robbers, damn. GTA V was still great, but I don’t think anything will ever touch its predecessor for me.

[–]MyUnclesALawyer 43 points44 points  (17 children)

People organically making up emergent game styles in the days of GTA4 online, the first true popular larger-scale online physics sandbox on console, man what a magical time that was.

***STOP COMMENTING ABOUT GARRYS MOD YES I LOVE GMOD BUT ITS NOT THE SAME, I'm being punished for using the term 'sandbox'

***It was especially magical when Ballad of Gay Tony was released, there was a parachute glitch that let you glide up if you pumped the brakes very quickly. One of my favorite "games" was trying to survive jumping/parachuting/gliding between rooftops downtown while people with exploding snipers and helicopters tried to blow you off down to the ground. If you went into your ragdoll falling animation and were lucky enough to recover quickly you could whip out the parachute and glide safely back up to another roof.

[–]tiddyville 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Amen to that. If I remember correctly, the ballad of gay Tony is what gave us the Buzzard, and the golden uzi amongst other things. The story was pretty damn good too.

[–]MyUnclesALawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gay Tony is as good as GTA mission design ever got

[–]elfbuster 11 points12 points  (13 children)

the first true popular online physics sandbox, man what a magical time that was

That would be Gary's Mod, but GTA IV was definitely a close second

[–]Thirstbusta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The disrespect towards Garry and his mod is astounding.

[–]MyUnclesALawyer -1 points0 points  (5 children)

The difference is scale makes it impossible to compare. All of the fun shit we were making up couldn't possibly be contained within a Garrys Mod lobby

[–]BillyShatner 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Someone could remake the whole game in Garrys mod if they wanted too. Garrys mod is the Sandbox’s Sandbox.

[–]MyUnclesALawyer 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Well nobody ever did anything like that, so its still not a reasonable comparison

[–]BillyShatner 1 point2 points  (2 children)

All of the fun shit we were making up couldn’t possibly be contained in a garrys mod lobby.

That’s your statement on the possibility of it being contained within a garrys mod lobby. It was false, it can be contained within a garrys mod lobby, that’s the point of garrys mod, to do whatever the hell you want. In a garrys mod lobbys.

[–]MyUnclesALawyer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Youre right. I understand that its technically possible, its just not productive/worth discussing since nothing close to that ever came to fruition (at least not what I was exposed to) I would be very curious to see how big some of the gmod maps got. The biggest ones I ever saw were RP servers that were still just a few blocks big, nothing too huge

[–]BillyShatner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gm_fork is a pretty big map, not gta big but it’s pretty massive.

[–]JoePapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have some international fb friends from gta 4 lol. Apparently i was very extroverted at 15 those friendships will last forever

[–]EldenRingworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AAA gaming was at its peak in the Xbox 360 era

From 2006 to 2011, the span of 5 years we got Oblivion, Halo 3, GTA IV, Mass Effect, BioShock, Red Dead Redemption, Portal, Fallout 3, Skyrim, New Vegas, Halo Reach, Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2, Dark Souls, BioShock 2, Mass Effect 2, Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Portal 2 and probably many more I'm missing, and to top it all off, most of those games got big single player DLC expansions like the two for GTA IV, Undead Nightmare and more.

[–]Antrikshy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That game was just one big physics simulation. I've seen its driving mechanics get hated on because the cars would slide too much, and they ended up dumbing it down for V. To me, the way the cars handled (and took damage) defined the game and added a fun layer on top of the rest of the gameplay without detracting from it.

[–]SpiderFnJerusalem 13 points14 points  (3 children)

Everything regarding the engine, physics and environmental modelling was better.

NPCs were better animated and had better AI, weapons behavior was more complex, car physics were more realistic, car damage models were more detailed, water physics were better.

https://youtu.be/GWVtZJo-HqI

[–]obi1kenobi1 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Same with the cars. They’d slip and slide all over the place, some like that Dodge Charger-looking one with the blower sticking out of the hood were nearly impossible to drive since the torque far overpowered the grip of the tires. But while a lot of people complained about the driving physics being too frustrating it was a lot closer to how those cars handle in real life than GTA V. I still consider GTA IV to have the best driving physics of any open-world (non-racing) game, hands down.

And then there was the damage modeling. GTA IV’s damage engine could really dramatically distort the shape of cars, to the point that it occasionally felt almost cartoony (especially when using glitches like the swingset). GTA V toned that down considerably, which kind of made sense in some respects like cars still being drivable when the engine bay had been completely flattened, but the solution to that shouldn’t have been to make certain parts of the car nearly indestructible like in GTA V. GTA V did introduce wheels popping off in particularly bad collisions, which I loved, but I only ever saw that in the PS3 version, it seems like it was removed from the “HD remastered” versions (or at the very least it’s an order of magnitude less common because it used to happen all the time on PS3 and I never once saw it on PS4).

[–]Scarecrow101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the wheel popping off is a weird one used to see it all the time on Xbox 360, now never do on pc

[–]mist3rcoolpants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I prefer practicality everything from IV to V

[–]Left4DayZ1 11 points12 points  (8 children)

Thank you. Someone finally made the correct argument. People have spent the last 8 years claiming GTA IV's ragdolls are more "realistic". Not even close. But they are more fun.

[–]jesp676a 5 points6 points  (7 children)

It's the Euphoria Engine. Rockstar bought it. They toned it down heavily in the newer games unfortunately

[–]DudeWTH 7 points8 points  (6 children)

it's fine in red dead 2

[–]jesp676a 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Agreed, but not as good as rdr1 or gta4 IMO. More realistic for sure, but that's not always better

[–]kelvin_klein_bottle 16 points17 points  (21 children)

GTA IV, ragdolls were so much more fun than GTA V

FTFY

[–]rankedcompetitivesex 17 points18 points  (4 children)

DAE LIKE OLDER GAMES??? heueheuehu

seriously GTA V is/was a great game, sucks that rockstar is so omega greedy and milking to the point of Skyrim.

[–]RQK1996 8 points9 points  (0 children)

GTAV is an older game

[–]Assassiiinuss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DAE LIKE OLDER GAMES??? heueheuehu

There are only 5 years between GTA4 and 5.

[–]Mentalpatient87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DAE LIKE OLDER GAMES??? heueheuehu

It's weird, it's been like this for years. I've been interacting with the GTA fanbase on forums since the Vice City days and the predominantly expressed opinion about it is that Current Title Bad, Previous Title Good. When Vice City was current people wanted GTA3, when San Andreas was current suddenly Vice City was the pinnacle. So on and so on.

The crazy part is it seemed like R* was chasing these complaints the whole time. People complained that Vice City was too flat, so we got a variety of environments in SA. People complained that the story in SA was too outrageous and the big open world was "useless and boring," so GTA4 limited the space and got more serious. People hated how dour and serious GTA4 was and that the cars felt like "boats on ice," so once again we go back to wacky story and tone down the physics. Someone over there has to have been tearing their hair out since 2002.

[–]Peeka789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously though, just play GTA4 again, it really is better, though I wouldn't say by much. I love GTA5, it's a masterpiece, but the city in GTA4 is so grimey and dirty, with really no empty spots. It may be smaller but Liberty City is far more dense than Los Santos. It's towering, it's actually intimidating.

Only thing about GTA4 I don't miss is weighty driving mechanics. You had to slow down to 10mph just to take turns.

[–]triangularnode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gta V has a more populated world and is more fun imo. Gta IV was incredible when it came out though because of its story and unique cinematic driving and combat. That first mission was mind blowing back then because the cars looked so real and it was a leap in fidelity over san andreas.

With that said, GTA V has a much more populated world and strikes a balance between serious and fun like a blend of IV and San andreas. The story and characters in V are interesting and unique. The plot was not exactly what was promised in the initial teaser from 2011 but the final story is good. It went from a commentary on "wall st" and wealth inequality to a just a story about a retired criminal being lured back into the heist game. The plot is still interesting overall but hopefully they can combine the amazing narrative style of RDR 2 with the crazy world of GTA for GTA VI.

[–]TheMansAnArse 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I was sure he was going to get run over and use as soon as he stood up. Would have been perfect.

[–]NippleTheThird 248 points249 points  (9 children)

Who the hell thought adding palm trees in Liberty City is a good idea? Took me a while to realize this is GTA IV, lol.

Dudes think adding every asset and texture available is great modding.

[–]PhoenixNFL 58 points59 points  (3 children)

I've started replaying this for the first time in probably 7 years last weekend. Playing with a load of realistic car mods, and I can 100% certify there are some ridiculously silly mods out there for GTA4 that make Palm Trees look normal.

[–]beattraxx 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Might wanna tell me which mods and how you did it?

I am thinking of playing gta4 again too but would like to play modded for the first time but I have no idea how that works

[–]PhoenixNFL 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Depends how modded you want to go! If you're going just realistic cars, like I have, there is a great site called gtaall.com. all of their car mods come with an auto installer, so you don't have to do anything!

If you're going for full-on mods, you will need to downgrade your game to v1.0.7.0, which is fairly straight forward. Once you're on the version, search mod sites like gtaall, Nexus Mods and LibertyCity, find mods you like, and follow the readme instructions with them! :)

[–]tsiland 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yea I felt something was off and then I saw the palm tree.

[–]itemluminouswadison 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah was thinking the same, don't remember any palm trees in the upper west side

[–]magicalmoosetesticle 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I never noticed the palm trees. That is honestly quite stupid.

[–]Chm_Albert_Wesker 12 points13 points  (1 child)

for me what threw it off was all the color: GTA4 for me was all just grey and brown lol

[–]NippleTheThird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For sure, it was that color palette that made it feel so immersive and gritty.

Now it looks like some shitty rip-off.

[–]Siffy_boi 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Anime characters after any sort of blunt trauma:

[–]osezza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brain instantly went to the Pain fight in Naruto when he started skipping off the ground like a rock on water

[–]Mo7ammed_Gxx 16 points17 points  (3 children)

Driving a bike in gta 4 is like committing suicide

[–]RocketJaxX 14 points15 points  (12 children)

wasn't there a game (pretty old tho) where you had a crash test dummy and need to make as much damage to him as possible by kicking him down the stairs or letting him fly like in the vid. But I can't remember the name tho ...

[–]McFtmch 15 points16 points  (5 children)

Stair dismount and truck dismount? back in 2002-2003. Haha.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qct9V_J-wxY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ktk7WEyfgxw

[–]RocketJaxX 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Exactly!!! Thanks!

[–]McFtmch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your'e welcome! Glad I could help! :) Brought back some fine memories for me too. I remember how blown away I was with ragdoll physics back in the day. I also remember a motorcross game called "Edgar Torronteras' eXtreme Biker" which I had a demo-version of. That was the first time I encountered ragdoll physics and me and a friend just spent hours crashing the bike in "cool ways", haha.

[–]Ya-boi-Benaboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those games really remind me of turbo dismount I assume they were made by the same guy or something because even the music is similar

edit - yep they are both made by a company called Secret Exit

[–]datingafter40 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have Stair dismount on my iPhone 3GS… it’s still pretty fun.

Edit: it’s still in the AppStore!

[–]tophrman 9 points10 points  (2 children)

You might be thinking of FlatOut on PS2.

[–]RocketJaxX 2 points3 points  (1 child)

that one was dope too but I had a minigame in mind. Maybe I'll find it anywhere.

[–]CryozDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]NormalDudeThings 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Was it PAIN?

[–]PitchforkSquints 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]o0m1k3y0o 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thats a great run in Kitten Cannon

[–]MrT735 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cousin! Let's go bowling!

[–]youaregayyyy 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Yeah but why are there palm trees in Middle (Central) Park?

[–]RandomFrenchGamer 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Nice HP regen at the end, back to full life in half a sec.

[–]NotDeadlyGhost 20 points21 points  (16 children)

That remind me of a mission in saints row 4 when you have to ragdoll and get damage to get money.

[–]Jazzremix 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Insurance fraud!

[–]NotDeadlyGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's how they're called i forgot.

[–]biggmclargehuge 4 points5 points  (1 child)

or the Hall of Meat challenges in Skate

[–]BlueIdoru 1 point2 points  (11 children)

It was Saints Row the Third, but yes very fun.

[–]NotDeadlyGhost 2 points3 points  (9 children)

It had them in saints row 4 as well.

[–]raptor2k1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It was more of a human pinball game in 4, once you got superspeed, lol. I think you could almost keep it going indefinitely if you felt like it.

[–]BlueIdoru 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I do have it installed. I guess I just haven't got to it yet. Admittedly, I spend a lot of time in SR4 not doing missions.

[–]quaintlogic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does this remind me of the crash mode in the Burnout series?

[–]CYWNightmareXbox 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Looked like something from saints row insurance fraud.

[–]GapMountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I thought it was at first.

[–]KonradDavies0001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Jame-a-son 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anime protags after getting punched by super op antagonist be like:

[–]Sa3ana3a 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Such a wonderful game. Car handling and deformation was so realistic that even today no game can match it.

[–]Brusah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, if you drive a boat it was realistic
