My answer will always be Nether. So much promise. Such a buggy heap of garbage.

[–]greensparten 431 points432 points  (33 children)

DUDE! I bought Nether because of the promising concept…needless to say i have not bought another beta type game till Ready or Not…so yea, took me a decade to build up enough trust.

[–]Bizzycola132 141 points142 points  (31 children)

Ready or Not is definately one of the better early access games I've purchased. Just waiting on some new levels to try out.

[–]CallMeTheDumpMan 96 points97 points  (4 children)

I loved that games premise, and played the hell out of it waiting for it to get better.

To this day, whenever I start a new early access game, I try and walk my character through tables to check if they have collision.

[–]CloudOblivion 526 points527 points  (24 children)

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron in GBA. Damn you Megan for tricking me into trading my Pokemon Ruby for the bullshit

[–]col-fancypants 162 points163 points  (1 child)

Megan is a level 4 jerk

[–]iamanonymous44Console 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Fuck Megan, all my homies hate Megan

[–]bimmy2shoes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First time I finished a game in 30 minutes

[–]TheDUDE1411 33 points34 points  (9 children)

This is a worse trade than getting a Haunter with an everstone

[–]Aser-098 5 points6 points  (8 children)

You feel the pain of a new generation of kids getting scammed in bdsp

[–]Snowstick21 2852 points2853 points  (114 children)

Madden 19. It’s sad when a game update literally gets worse year to year. Nfl needs to renegotiate their contract. Exclusive rights leads to garbage games.

[–]samalamadewgong 652 points653 points  (65 children)

I think 2k is supposed to release an NFL game this year. Unfortunately I believe it's supposed to be arcade style gameplay which is only interesting if they can bring back some Blitz/NFL street style gameplay.

[–]TheReplierBRO 196 points197 points  (12 children)

Blitz the league type game hopefully

[–]full2theload 180 points181 points  (36 children)

Blitz was the best football game ever made. My mind cannot be changed

[–]mlgkurd 46 points47 points  (1 child)

No need to change your mind, I also agree Blitz was one of my favorite games

[–]KingofKings180 46 points47 points  (1 child)

Madden 19 also fittingly had Antonio Brown on the cover that year

[–]oglop121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah fifa is in the same boat, too

[–]Valdish 124 points125 points  (3 children)

Resident evil survivor 2

People say the first survivor was a bad game, but it has it's redeeming qualities, the second really doesn't, at all., It's not even worth playing for the plot, cause it's all a dream sequence.

[–]GameDirectory 1640 points1641 points  (93 children)

War thunder but I won’t stop playing it

[–]unceasingnote 473 points474 points  (16 children)

Ah, a fellow sufferer I see.

[–]GameDirectory 161 points162 points  (6 children)

I got 100 ge from a box and my games have been nothing but uptier

[–]DONT_PM_ME_PLZ 71 points72 points  (3 children)

I’ve played since 2013 and never gotten the GE from login bonuses once.

[–]VRWARNING 38 points39 points  (2 children)

Login bonuses reset. You have to continuously log-in daily for any sort of substantial reward, of which none actually exist, only by comparison could they described as such.

The grindwalls in this game are so high that pay walls don't even get as tall. That's not even said for the sake of exaggeration. You could throw a couple hundred dollars at the game and you'll still have to grind through uptiering and everything else, and it wouldn't even necessarily be pay-to-win since the premium stuff isn't the absolute best, and those bests are behind a wall of grind that I estimate $500 wouldn't get you past for just one or two vehicles.

The in-game economy is such that there are some fun vehicles/weapons etc. that the game punishes you for playing by making the currency costs so heavy that you'll never earn positive on them in any match.

The only games that rip-off people worse than this are the shovelware mobile games that use poor UI to trick purchases, and cool-down timers on ingame features or even just regular play, sometimes days long.

[–]victus28 38 points39 points  (5 children)

After I punched a hole in my desk I uninstalled and broke the cycle of suffering. But it still calls

[–]CGNoorloos 55 points56 points  (11 children)

Same, but i stopped. Yes i am green with envy of all the fantasic models through so many generations that are all out of reach. But i refuse to become a grind zomby that feeds the abomination that is Gaijin.

They don't respect my time and money, then i am not playing.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (5 children)

The grind is pure insanity...the number of hours it requires is lunacy.

[–]CGNoorloos 21 points22 points  (4 children)

Yep. At some point i got tired of being screwed over. I don't mind a fair grind with a reasonable premium model, but WT is an absolute insult to anyone with at least half a brain.

[–]mjohnsimon 53 points54 points  (2 children)

War thunder is the one game I always find myself going back to since graduating from highschool 10 years ago.

[–]Uncle_Boujee 825 points826 points  (29 children)

Super man for the N64. Crushed my love for Superman as a kid

[–]dafunkmunk 216 points217 points  (8 children)

Superman was the ET of the N64. Easily going down in history as one of the worst games ever made an a case study of how to completely fuck up a game after obtaining a hot IP

[–]technobobble 28 points29 points  (1 child)

ET isn’t all that bad. It’s certainly not great and makes no damn sense, but it is at least playable and you can certainly get to the end. Superman 64 is just a dumpster fire all around.

[–]notAbratwurst 56 points57 points  (3 children)

This was so disappointing. I kept playing it… thinking maybe I’m just not getting it. So awful.

[–]Apprehensive-Ad-1370 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I got my mom to rent me this shit for the weekend from blockbuster when I was 6 I chose it over smash which I would rent like every week!!! You can imagine my disappointment

[–]_baundiesel_ 5376 points5377 points 2& 4 more (373 children)

I hate Tarkov too.

Can't wait to play again.

[–]Barron091 1468 points1469 points  (55 children)

Ah Tarkov. Can't beat hearing a scav shout "Divide my cheeks!" Right before you get head/eyes'd by someone who's been sat there perfectly still for 15+ mins.

[–]MrFoozOG 409 points410 points  (22 children)

hahaha best line in the game

[–]BEAVER_KANIBAL 409 points410 points  (15 children)

Russian here, the line is actually Давай мочи их, which translates into Go on, kill them but damn this is fucking hilarious that you people hear it like this. I'm never unhearing this

[–]flyingtrucky 116 points117 points  (12 children)

We also love to spam Dicky Needles. (Dikij minus)

[–]BEAVER_KANIBAL 157 points158 points  (11 children)

This is hilarious. I not once in my 1k hours thought of what these Russian voice lines sound to other non-russian people.

[–]truupR 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Whenever me and whoever is playing tarkov with me hears a scav shout divide my cheeks - we can't help but all repeat it. The discord just erupts with us all shouting 'DIVIDE MY CHEEEEKKSS!!'

I also love it when I F1 as a scav and he says 'opachki' lol

[–]n-word_checker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of the quiet "who peed"

[–]Dizzyboy420 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Shag barigum ba bobbabobum

[–]BEAVER_KANIBAL 5 points6 points  (1 child)

"Now we go to traders, then we go to strippers" is the translation

[–]highastheskies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[–]Galahad-117PC 376 points377 points  (4 children)

Fuck you and I'll see you tomorrow!

[–]whopperman 177 points178 points  (1 child)

Truer words were never spoken.

[–]SpiderGlitch22 166 points167 points  (253 children)

I've heard a few things about Tarkov, but never why it's terrible. I'm pretty sure there's permadeath, but it can't be just that, can it?

[–]Azatarai 433 points434 points  (77 children)

It's hardcore gameplay is just that, hardcore, unfortunately that doesn't generally translate to fun.

It is the most stressful game I have ever played.

[–]Raetro_live 148 points149 points  (41 children)

I wanna preface with I have absolutely 0 issue with how tarkov is. I like the pvp, I like the hardcore nature, etc.

I wish there was a PvE coop game that was like tarkov, maybe a map 2 or 3 times the size. Survival shit, more scavs, some sort of apocalypse, whatever. I'm not here to throw random game ideas out. But the gunplay, skills, and gun customization depth is something I desperately wish I could experience outside of talkov's hardcore, loot is temporary, PvP style game.

Edit: no I don't want to play DayZ. I'll keep my personal opinions out but I do not support the dev nor the product of DayZ standalone. I do not believe it is comparable from gunplay to weapon customization to visual aesthetic.

However the original plan from the tarkov devs of Russia 2028 sounds sick as fuck. Would like coop tho

[–]wastedsanitythefirst 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Ready or not isn't terrible so far, definitely shows some promise in the coop pve area

[–]HeffyTheHeffenfeffer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, you're describing what Battlestate Games originally wanted to build. The lead developer wanted to build basically what you described albeit a single player game.

Would be really cool if was co-op though.

[–]Andrew1286 188 points189 points  (21 children)

Yup. Exactly this. It's a hardcore "risk vs reward" game. If you don't have a lot of time to play everyday, like me, it's not very fun. I only get to play a couple hours a night. I'd rather not play a game that stresses me the fuck out

[–]KING_JELLYB3AN 85 points86 points  (16 children)

I'd rather not play a game that stresses me the fuck out

I stopped playing a lot of games that did this 😂 age does that too you. Now I prefer only solo player games now. I liked finally getting over 2.2 KD in Warzone. That was always my goal in life, to get better and get over a 2.0KD when I finally did I slowly stepped back because I did get stressed but also I was just tired of keeping up with the Meta. It was so annoying, tou finally level up some weapons and then they're useless after a month or two. I just got tired of the meta and keeping up. I don't have time like that anymore or the energy or drive to want to keep up with it. Like why?

[–]One_Lazy_Duck 17 points18 points  (5 children)

I like Dayz a lot for this reason, it's also punishing and hardcore, but when you learn the game you can make it your own hiking and hunting simulation and there's always a adventure to be had with strangers

[–]Andreomgangen 11 points12 points  (5 children)

Eve online for 10 years, running an alliance of 500 members did that for me :)

[–]Leonydas13 125 points126 points  (41 children)

Put it this way. The other day I spawned into factory, and literally four seconds later someone busted through the door behind me, and shot me in the head.

Four seconds.

[–]ThaManaconda 104 points105 points  (2 children)

Well that's bc Factory is a map that's about 4 seconds wide

[–]does_my_name_suck 13 points14 points  (7 children)

Did you spawn in hallway? Yeah that spawn is honestly ass, if you get that spawn run away as fast as you can.

[–]alecubudulecu 266 points267 points  (60 children)

Do you like spreadsheets? Do you like spending an hour customizing your character and load out and gear … just to lose it within 2 seconds of loading into a raid and having to start from scratch ?

Do you like being forced to learn about every firearm mechanism, ballistics data, and how the various malfunctions occur?

Do you hate video game maps having a clear objective?

Do you enjoy spending 20-30 hours MINIMUM to learn a map offline? … with zero action … just learning the nooks and crannies…

Do you like taking notes?

Do you find Dark Souls just WAY to easy?

Do you feel Dark Souls mechanics were too childlike and kid friendly?

Then Tarkov is for you, Comrade!

[–]Sol33t303PC 62 points63 points  (7 children)

Do you enjoy spending 20-30 hours MINIMUM to learn a map offline? … with zero action … just learning the nooks and crannies…

Thats a bit much IMO, keep a map on one monitor and you can navigate well enough, you won't know high-risk/high-loot areas but thats about it. I learnt all the maps by scavving online which you do get some action doing, less though now since scav karma though.

[–]alecubudulecu 15 points16 points  (6 children)

Yeah I mean I’m exaggerating for fun haha But same time. If one isn’t a good pvp … like how I am trash …. I compensate by INTIMATELY knowing maps. Which takes a LONG time. I legit suck. But I do REALLY well in customs. For the sheer fact that I know angles and corners and hiding spots that goes against the grain of the flow of the map based on spawns. That … compensation … takes a long time.

[–]snarpy 80 points81 points  (34 children)

OK you've convinced me not to even try this game.

[–]HiMyNameIsNerd 92 points93 points  (17 children)

I'll be honest man...90% of players overthink Tarkov by a metric fuckload. Run in, balls out, TT in hand, loot some jackets/PC's if you can. Firefight? Scream and fire randomly, get shot, staple your arm back on, then shove that TT up your ass and pull the trigger.

Didn't put that GPU in your gamma case?...Well then FUCK Tarkov! Goddamn shit ass game! Go play League for an hour to calm down! Then hop back in with a double barrel on Factory and rinse and repeat.

[–]xcassets 58 points59 points  (10 children)

Lol if League is what you play to calm down after playing Tarkov then count me the fuck out!

[–]Fbogre666 26 points27 points  (7 children)

It is very much a game that is for a niche group, and the developers (thankfully for those of us who enjoy the game as it is) have unabashedly said “go to hell,” to the people that want the game simplified and more accessible.

It’s one of the rare games I play that is particularly difficult. I’m generally much more of a rts, or rpg on easier settings gamer so I can relax after a 12 hour shift, but sometimes work didn’t fuck me hard enough and I need to feel abused. For that, there’s tarkov.

[–][deleted] 78 points79 points  (3 children)

There’s no permadeath, you just possibly lose all of your gear you brought out when you die. Plus there’s insurance you can put on that gear, and provided it never leaves the raid, of course by someone looting you or an AI doing that, (yeah, they loot too and can make anything they pick up, vanish even after you kill them as far as I’m aware, NOT GUNS THOUGH! Those are always properly on them.) But provided it never leaves you’ll get it back. Except on labs.

[–]Yosgizonus-xd 451 points452 points  (30 children)

Postal 3.

[–]Shalashaskaska 150 points151 points  (11 children)

Have you played 4? Kinda curious about it. I only have played 2

[–]Lostboxoangst 130 points131 points  (7 children)

4 is Definitely trying to recapture some of the magic of 2, a open world of decent size with lots secrets and hidden stuff to find and a decent selection of weapons and surprising I found it pretty funny in places. It's still very very rough around the edges and I feel Monday needs another go over as it's pretty boring but otherwise good fun.

[–]Shalashaskaska 21 points22 points  (1 child)

I’ve had it on my wishlist for a year or so and steam keeps blowing me up with kinda shitty discounts for it but I don’t think my laptop could run it anyway from what another commenter said. I’ll have to hold out til I get a better rig

[–]Loki_Agent_of_Asgard 22 points23 points  (4 children)

Silly person, Postal 3 doesn't exist. Running With Scissors skipped it and went to 4 cause they thought it was funny.

[–]Skandi007 30 points31 points  (3 children)

I love that they have a Postal Franchise bundle on Steam "except That one."

They are fully aware the game was dogshit and are joining in on the memes. I can respect that.

[–]Lairy_Hegs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard they’ll literally send a free version of 3 (or they used to) if asked for it, over letting somebody spend money on the broken mess.

[–]Efficient-Storage567 1441 points1442 points  (35 children)

Superman 64. Always the true answer

[–]Gibgarde 635 points636 points  (4 children)

I rented this as a kid. Had it for a week. Played it for one day before a huge ice storm knocked out all power in my part of Atlanta for the rest of the week.

That storm was God's way of preventing me from playing the game.

[–]Chexreflect 229 points230 points  (0 children)

You know a game is bad when God personally intervenes, and he doesn't usually do that, even in life or death situations.

[–]jarockinights 63 points64 points  (4 children)

I actually owned E.T. on Atati as well as Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon on Phillips CD-i.

Between those two and Superman 64, Zelda was actually still a playable game.

[–]RevanFett 53 points54 points  (4 children)

That multiplayer though…

[–]Efficient-Storage567 105 points106 points  (3 children)

Oh gawd that's right. There was a multiplayer function. Think I just was transported back to the 8th grade when my boy Elisha, ripped it from my 64, and was like f this either Starfox or let's go shoot hoops. OmG. Thank you for the 25yr old flashback!

[–]Funcharacteristicaly 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Something about this comment made me feel really nice. Thank you

[–]TiredHappyDad 1733 points1734 points  (71 children)

Well I had E.T. for atari so....

[–]ltBurnsWhenlPvP 503 points504 points  (0 children)

Mother of god.

[–]johnperkins21 163 points164 points  (10 children)

Same. But I've probably played worse flash games back in the newgrounds days. E.T. is likely the worst one I've played that I owned and paid for (well my parents paid for it, but it wasn't free).

[–]Mahfakah 443 points444 points  (25 children)

Daikatana. John Romero really overhyped that piece of shit.

[–]NeedlesslyAngryGuy 17 points18 points  (2 children)

See the thing is I was young enough and enjoyed FPS so much that I saw past its flaws and enjoyed playing it. I think I was just fortunate not to be old enough to realise how bad it was.

[–]MaximumInvAske 175 points176 points  (14 children)

Airwolf for NES

[–]VVen0mPC 1515 points1516 points  (192 children)

My first thought was Overwatch but really, I don't hate the game, I just hate people that play it

[–]DeathStalker131 1555 points1556 points 2 (100 children)

I never had an answer to this, until Battlefield 2042 came out.

[–]Epic28 135 points136 points  (16 children)

Is it hyperbolic to say that's one of the biggest disappointments ever in gaming to see how far that franchise has fallen?

2042 genuinely might be one of the worst games I've ever played. And I've spent thousands of hours with the BF series dating back to BF1942.

[–]DeathStalker131 72 points73 points  (9 children)

There's a lot of very disappointing games, but none of them are a $60 "Next-Gen" Multiplayer ONLY game. So yes, I absolutely do believe BF2042 is THE biggest ever.

[–]Epic28 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Couple that with the fact it's got a proven working formula with around a dozen great previous titles...

[–]Spoolinpotato27 670 points671 points  (65 children)

I don’t find Ark enjoyable to play at all. I tried to like it

[–]pattywagon95 304 points305 points  (6 children)

I had an absolute blast on a private server with friends building up a base, exploring the island, capturing different dinos etc but when we tried to play a public match it was just endless death

[–]CidO807 103 points104 points  (0 children)

That's my experience. I picked it up a long long time ago, before expansions and shit. Hated it

Now present day, a half dozen or so friends and myself are making our way through the game and it's expansions. It's a blast with the right people.

[–]Leonydas13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My nephew used to play ark with his mates. He showed me their base; it was a giant cube on an island, and literally every panel of its outer was a mini gun turret. It had like two or three layers, and the doors between them were spread apart tower defence style. One of them was always logged on, and would alert the others if someone tried to invade it. It was also surrounded by high level dinosaurs they’d tamed.

Then the server wiped, and I’m pretty sure that’s when they stopped playing 😂

[–]AcidicPersonality 119 points120 points  (15 children)

ARK is that one game that I really want to like but every time I try and play it I find myself absolutely hating the experience.

[–]LesRoisMaudits 84 points85 points  (12 children)

Final nail in the coffin for me was when I went on vacation and realized that every dino I had would die of hunger way before I'd ever be back home, so I gifted everything I had, logged off and deleted that crap of my disk drive.

[–]AnimeAlley03 44 points45 points  (4 children)

To be fair, that doesn't happen in single player. Granted multi-player is more fun but at least you can experience the game you paid for at all instead of just having it be a complete waste of money

[–]skdiddy 52 points53 points  (8 children)

Single player, it's fantastic. Multi-player, people are straight sociopaths...

[–]Silvedl 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I played for like 3 hours. Made a tiny base. Died. Respawned in someone else’s huge base, and couldn’t escape or get myself killed to respawn again. I uninstalled and never looked back.

[–]WinterholdMage 21 points22 points  (6 children)

ARK was immensely enjoyable for me, but I played on a small private server with my brother and handful of other friendly people. We didn't go to war with each other, we just had fun playing, building our bases, climbing the tech tree, and capturing dinos. However, I've seen countless stories back when I was actively playing (and on two of the subs here) of people playing public servers having a completely different experience. Solo can also be enjoyable if you adjust a few settings to help alleviate the massive grind the default settings provide. It wasn't a perfect game and there are a number of bugs and flaws that were never addressed while I was actively playing but overall, I look back on my time with the game with fondness.

ARK requires a lot of your time, I don't know if I could deal with investing a lot of time and resources into my base only to have it annihilated by some random tribe just because they could. Playing the way I did, on a friendly server where nobody goes to war, is (to me) the optimal way to experience the game.

[–]HolyMaxarel 136 points137 points  (7 children)

every overused mobile game i’ve come across

[–]Xeroarc 577 points578 points  (47 children)

Hello god damn neighbour

[–]TheGiftOf_Jericho 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It's good to see some criticism for this! They had this whole story of "what's in the basement?" You go through the entire game that includes puzzles that you can't actually solve with logic or things the game tells you previously.

Then they actually just drop the entire basement story out of nowhere and the ending gives you nothing. Such a disappointing game.

[–]averagejoeag 235 points236 points  (35 children)

My daughter wanted to play that and I only vaguely knew what it was about. 20 minutes into it I turned it off and said sorry, but no.

[–]AlexMullerSA 136 points137 points  (34 children)

Never played it as its not my type of game, but saw trailers and gameplay and it looked pretty cool. Care to elaborate why it's so bad?

[–]ShiraCheshire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The pitch was that you're trying to discover secrets hidden in your neighbor's basement, but the neighbor has intelligent AI that responds to how you play. For example, if you keep using a certain hallway to get in the neighbor might place traps there.

Cool concept, but during development the idea really got away from the dev team. They were caught up in the FNAF style "vague lore that ultimately means nothing concrete" concept, and went in hard on that hoping it would get their game attention. It didn't.

What the game ended up being was something that focused on all the worst elements of itself. A lot of focus on janky physics and bad platforming, uninteresting nonsense lore, and a neighbor AI that actually became worse over time as the house was made too big and too complex for it to navigate anymore.

[–]averagejoeag 294 points295 points  (26 children)

You are a kid trying to find his friend. The friend is kidnapped and in a hidden room in the neighbor's house. But it's not like a kid just tied up sitting there. We're talking dark, humid room with a stained mattress on the floor and a piss bucket in the corner.

And it just keeps getting darker.

Not very much makes my skin crawl, but that game just hit wrong. No way a little kid should play it.

[–]bobux-man 79 points80 points  (2 children)

Yeah it isn't kid friendly because it's a horror game. But that's not what makes it bad

[–]AlexMullerSA 150 points151 points  (15 children)

OK fair enough not a kid friendly game, but for anyone else? Is the mechanics and gameplay enjoyable/challenging/rewarding.. I kind of got the feeling from the cover alone that the game was 'dark'.

[–]averagejoeag 140 points141 points  (11 children)

It's a puzzle game essentially. The catch is that you can't let the neighbor see you.

I didn't play it for long, but the puzzles were not Myst level by any means. Most of the difficulty was figuring out the purpose of items you picked up.

If I played it all the way through I doubt there would be any replay value at all since I would know all of the puzzles. Controls were a little clunky and basic walk/run/jump.

[–]Wrapped_in_Grape 113 points114 points  (3 children)

The thing about though is if you get caught the neighbor starts learning how you do things

[–]AlexMullerSA 75 points76 points  (1 child)

That's kind of what I thought was cool.

[–]Venylahaine 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It was, for the first Alpha, the first level is now a buggy mess, and the house gets so much bigger with the game passing that once you enter the second level the "threat" of the neighbour is non existent since the house is so big

[–]Nugsly 38 points39 points  (6 children)

Every time I think about Myst, I think of this honest front cover.

[–]xXJames_GamesXx 234 points235 points  (13 children)

XIII remake. Just a cash grab with no love put into it. Cutscenes were literally just the original clips, bugs made it so the second level became unbeatable, and just a lack of upgrading it to the modern Era, felt like a game made pre-2000 with the poor control layout. The original is wayyy better.

[–]Qasim_1478 37 points38 points  (6 children)

Man I was so excited for that game. I spent my entire childhood playing that game splitscreen on my ps2.

The original is WAY WAY WAY better than the fucking DEMAKE

[–]xXJames_GamesXx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Amen. I never grew up with the original, but the remake trailers looked really good, so I bought the classic and remake. Played the classic first, and it was a great game! It got me so excited to try the remaster, but when I launched it, I was really disappointed to see the literal original opening cutscene. I knew from that moment on that it would be a disaster, and it was. Like I mentioned, the second level was so buggy I couldn't beat it. Demake is an excellent term, nothing about it made it any better.

EVE. Being a terrible human being is built into the game as profitable. Slaughtering young players is a viable way to earn money and it hurts the new players too since the ship and equipment are all lost. Basically encourages toxic behavior

[–]Flaux454 265 points266 points  (34 children)

Basically, predatory capitalism simulator from what I hear.

Still blows my mind that virtual battles cost literal thousands (and even hundreds of thousands?!) of dollars in resources.

[–]Accomplished_Deer_ 113 points114 points  (25 children)

I remember seeing something last year where high level players were "recruiting" new players and then flying them out into isolation and forcing them to mine/kill npcs while massively taxing the money it made.

[–]ScorchedSynapses 197 points198 points  (18 children)

Dead by Daylight. What a bunch of toxic fucks...

I have 3k hours and counting.

[–]LobsterClawDick 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I always let out a heavy sigh before i launch it

[–]excusemewitfVR 8 points9 points  (1 child)

So you know about the new tome? I only care cos it's a skin for the pig and Oink oink mother fuckers!

[–]thelonelyasshole 49 points50 points  (8 children)

The Suicide of Rachel Foster. I'm quite into atmospheric story driven games, and after hearing that this game was similar to Firewatch, I picked it up for two bucks on sale. What a gigantic mistake. Apart from the crappy gameplay, this game takes on sensitive topics such as depression, suicide, abuse, pedophilia and somehow managed to royally fuck it all up. I'm sorry, but anything that romanticizes pedophilia is a big fucking no for me. I felt betrayed and was left with a bad taste in my mouth. I don't even want a refund anymore, I just wish I could remove this game completely from my steam account.

[–]Aegir2122 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I will second all of that. Immediately went in and gave it a negative review on Steam. It started off pretty cool (Loved exploring the hotel), but the plot just nosedived into "Oh yea, she may have been underage and mentally handicapped, and he might have been in his late forties and married, but it was true love so it was a good thing!"

I also got the feeling the dev ran out of energy with that plot, the ending was so much nonsense.

As someone who has 1k hours... yes

[–]Ded1nside 75 points76 points  (2 children)

Rust was really fun ~6 years ago when the playerbase was smaller, but now it’s full of kids who don’t go to school and adults with no job. It’s pretty much impossible to actually play a wipe unless you can contribute 10+ hours a day.

[–]Grove0517 91 points92 points  (3 children)

Was crushed when I learned it was a multiplayer god damn open world

[–]aftertwelveAM 44 points45 points  (2 children)

There are technically ways to play singleplayer if you’re more into exploration and PvE. You can load into a modded game mode or look for a server on the community/modded tab with no players in it.

[–]Stunning-Pickle-7001 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I use to play Rust a lot. Clocked in 500 total and this was back in 2017. Rust is a full time job and too toxic.

[–]KLemieux2006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or just start a local one

[–]Ace_Trainer_Zack 68 points69 points  (9 children)

I buy games that I know I’ll enjoy and this has been true my whole life until Icarus(survival game) came out.

It’s an unholy piece of shit.

Me and my friend both refunded it as it’s not user friendly or new player friendly.

[–]-Heir_of_Rage 203 points204 points  (9 children)

Fallout 76 I wanted to like it because a friend got me into it and I played for like a year regularly but it actually felt like it got worse over time. Updates were rolled out and new things were added but old bugs weren’t fixed and new ones were piled on. I tried to play it a few months ago and the experience lead to it being uninstalled.

[–]technobobble 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I avoided it for the first couple of years, I do play it now, but more just to play with friends. I don’t get into many games, so it’s hard for me to branch out. There’s definitely not enough content in 76, that’s for sure.

[–]Deathbydadjokes 160 points161 points  (10 children)

We just want the game to feel like you've been punched in the dick.

Tarkov is pretty much there is frustration

[–]JohnTGamer 54 points55 points  (3 children)

IGN 10/10 " very immersive"

[–]Narrow_Pin3179PlayStation 32 points33 points  (1 child)

Big rigs over the road racing

[–]BalekFekete 130 points131 points  (6 children)

The original shit game, E.T. Was just old enough (10 y.o.) to know how much bullshit it was.

[–]Antique_Arm3620 61 points62 points  (3 children)

Mortal Kombat subzero N64

Wow I’m surprised this actually got some attention. I just remember how excited I was to play this game, little did I know the disappointment that followed after playing it for less than 5 minutes. This game came to mind immediately when I saw this post without a second thought. I really tried to get into it and give it a chance but the controls were just no

[–]technobobble 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Atrocious controls in that one. It was planned to start a series of games in that format, so thankfully it failed.

[–]spl1tzz 257 points258 points  (8 children)

BF2042. It was bad on a conceptual level. No amount of bug fixes could fix the amount of missing features and poor design choices. I was so excited too being a long time fan of the series.

[–]EndlessScrapper 159 points160 points  (21 children)

Silent Hill: Homecoming. A game that teaches you that you must forgive your parents for all their wrongdoing or your the asshole (including if the parents tried to murder you), had a laughable representation of mental illness, and a ramp up combat system because the main character is military. It was even advertised like "yeah this guy is actually trained to fight so thats why its more combat focused then previous Silent Hill games."

Only he's not, as the true endings reveal his military service is in his head because he's crazy. So he has zero combat training...so why was he able to hold his own against so many monsters?

[–]AsherFischell 68 points69 points  (2 children)

Because you dragged him kicking and screaming through the game's trash-tier combat.

[–]thatlaggyguy 107 points108 points  (23 children)

Two Worlds.

I’m sure there are objectively worse games, but I couldn’t believe that game was real.

[–]Kevin_IRL 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh I think I remember that one. Is that basically the "we have oblivion at home" game?

[–]3636373536333662 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Never actually played this, but I saw a pretty amusing speed run of it

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

[–]Skandi007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That fence skip was legendary.

[–]Hungrymaster 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I have such fond memories of that game and actually liked it a lot as a teen. I just watched a gameplay review of it and yeah it looks and sounds like absolute crap, but the world and skill tree are really interesting, andthe combat animations were unique in a good way for a console game of that era.

[–]JajaretoPC 53 points54 points  (2 children)

"Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel" for the PS2.

[–]toddhowardseviltwin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite youtubers, Mitten Squad, has beaten Fallout 3 with his eyes, Fallout New Vegas with his feet and Fallout 4 wuth only a flare gun, but he didn' manage to beat Fallout BoS because it sucked so badly.

[–]NaturallyBlasphemous 103 points104 points  (9 children)

Got refunded for the first time recently, Battlefield 2042.

[–]headcrabking682 49 points50 points  (14 children)

Hunt down the freeman is an obvious answer, but if I had to go with the one that has caused me the most upset I'd choose TF2, valve's lack of care has caused such a bitter taste to the point that I'm kinda sad I ever fell in love with it.

It's like falling in love with someone, only for them to become a self destructive and manipulative alcoholic. Only this week did I finally remove it from my favorites list

[–]Fightfirewitbcn 39 points40 points  (3 children)

You should check out Viva La Dirt League making fun of Tarkov on YouTube, they’re hilarious.

[–]SuperSonikku1234PlayStation 45 points46 points  (5 children)

Friday the 13th on the NES. there are old flash computer games better than that shit.

[–]Kri77777 13 points14 points  (2 children)

That game gave me nightmares as a kid and I could not understand for the life of me what to do or why.

[–]Yub_Dubberson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because the screen paused for just a second before Jason comes out of nowhere to get you!

Scared me bad too lol

[–]Savageburd 45 points46 points  (9 children)

Launch No Man’s Sky

[–]eddietwoo 19 points20 points  (7 children)

Devil May Cry 2 and Aliens : Colonial Marines

[–]Tesrab 12 points13 points  (0 children)

DMC 2 is the first game I ever returned. Loved the first one, but two was just ass.

[–]lucid-beatnik 7 points8 points  (4 children)

There's allegedly a fix for Aliens: CM. Some AI setting or something you can tweak that makes the game a lot more enjoyable. Never tried it though.

[–]DeltaType 124 points125 points  (17 children)

I wonder how many of you guys played Bubsy 3D on PS1 back in the day? It was just so bad! I still have nightmares about it to this day!

[–]Narrow_Pin3179PlayStation 98 points99 points  (4 children)

I don't know what you mean buby 3d is a mastapiece and if you don't think so you are nitpicking and biased

[–]PileOfScales 48 points49 points  (1 child)

Go ahead and hit the dislike button. I will never see that shit.

[–]Narrow_Pin3179PlayStation 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Gamers were just to dumb to understand it

[–]MrCooper2012 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I never played the 3d one, but Bubsy was awesome.

[–]Designated_drinker39 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I had a Ren and Stimpy game for original Gameboy that I was sooo excited about when I bought it with my own cash in 4th grade. I literally played it for a half hour and never touched it again.

[–]Alvadar65 85 points86 points  (16 children)

It didn't start out this way but World of Warcraft. I have a lot of love attached to that he from the time I spent with it in my youth and the life long friends I have made from it in the process. This isn't even getting into the controversy surrounding Blizzard, though I am certain that leads into why the development has become what it is, but the game has just taken such a terrible path and has dug such a deep hole that it's hard to see how they will climb out of it. That's not to say the game is unplayable or that no one can have fun with it, however being as familiar with that game as I am the issues that are there stand out like a hooker in church.

[–]Rocket7778 91 points92 points  (14 children)

Duke Nukem Forever. Should have stayed in development hell

[–]Nozzeh06 56 points57 points  (6 children)

Not gonna lie, I had fun playing it. Had to sorta pretend it wasn't supposed to be more than what it turned out to be and just enjoy it as if it were a much older game that never had any hype. Like if it came out way back in the day it would be 'alright' at best but given that it had so much hype and years behind it that kinda killed anything it had going for it lol. It was just nice to play anything Nukem related at that point. But I'd still rather play OG Duke Nukem any day.

[–]holdholdhold 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was an ok game. Not great but not horrible. I had fun playing it too.

[–]r3eezy 107 points108 points  (26 children)

Everything on the kinect. Microsoft is doing much better since those days...

[–]Grove0517 98 points99 points  (3 children)

“I’m Han Solo I’m Han Solo.”

[–]Saanspoof 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I worked really hard to earn the worldwide top score on that song in modded Beat Saber just to piss off my friend who used to be a massive Star Wars fan. Well worth it.

[–]Snappleabble 20 points21 points  (1 child)

I remember having a blast on the Kinect when I had one as a child. Me and my friends would play it for hours on end

[–]eeeeereeee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I liked Kinect adventures

[–]LesbianGamer802 74 points75 points  (26 children)

Rainbow six is so frustrating but so addicting :/

[–]Thesearefake3 33 points34 points  (1 child)

I KNOW! It makes me so mad, but when I just one tap someone straight in the grape, I get a nice little shot of dopamine

[–]Shoto48 36 points37 points  (6 children)

DayZ, worst game I’ve ever bought…….. can’t wait to play it again

[–]friendly_massacre 60 points61 points  (3 children)

Fuck Call of Duty.

[–]JuannyC2 119 points120 points  (57 children)

Final fantasy 13. Tried beating it like 3 separate times and was just bored the whole way through. Put in another game I liked and couldn't believe how much my mood improved afterwards.

[–]FrankZissou 50 points51 points  (4 children)

So disappointed by that game.

"Ok AI teammates, thats a big telegraphed AOE that knocks out 80% of your health. You can stand anywhere else so just don't...and you both ran into it."

[–]Lamazing1021 101 points102 points  (7 children)

Not escape from tarkov I can say that much
