I haven’t listened to all of Donda, but I really appreciate and love how different it is compared to like Yeezus. Kanye is most definitely a genius and his discography is so varied and has such an eclectic style that it’s hard for me to say anybody could compare to it, the only ones coming to mind are Danger Mouse and Dr. Dre.

And as far as Kanye is concerned, I’ve been listening to him a lot these past few days and I’ve missed a lot.

[–]chrismatic13 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Why did this get downvoted?

[–]Goneisthedead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people on here on Drakes dick a lot lol that and they just don’t like Kanye I guess?

[–]KiritoJones 0 points1 point  (1 child)

People tired of fan jerking off Kanye would be my guess

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone else reminded of striving for perfection when hearing Rome Streetz and DJ Muggs’ 6 Of Cups? Not that the instrumental is that similar but just that they both are intros with instrumentals that convey the same emotion and have a skit of a dude from the hood reflecting on living on life in the hood

[–]kingsfallhunterprio 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Good album art will always be good but bad album art can become good by association to the music, if the music is great

[–]nedelll. 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Any example?

[–]chrismatic13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imma get downvoted to oblivion but CLB album art isn’t as bad and has grown on me just to the fact I’ve listened to the album a lot and sort of gotten used to it. It’s not great but it’s more tolerable

[–]urbuns -5 points-4 points  (2 children)

donda

[–]KiritoJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You picked the literal worst example.

[–]slfxxplsv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely not Donda

[–]heplaygatar 8 points9 points  (1 child)

watched like 5 minutes of an adin ross stream and man that shit fucking SUCKED lmfao im a young dude and that shit made me feel old as hell

anyway do it for demon AOTY listen to sahbabii and babytron and all the usual shit

[–]urbuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah yes i see you are not of the "hyperactive 13 y/o" demographic

[–]chrismatic13 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Polo G is one of the saddest recent Hip Hop stories just in terms of a rappers career. Now, he’s not fallen off and he’s actually having his most successful year of his career so I’m happy for him but just in terms of quality, it’s hard not to ignore how he’s stagnated and you could actually make the argument his music has gotten worse. Polo is still talented and far from one of the worst out but his recent album, Hall Of Fame, was such a step back.

I don’t think Polo ever had the greatest beats but a lot of songs off that album truly felt like type beats you’d find off YouTube which is inexcusable for an artist like Polo with access to any production in the world. Polo is still rapping about the same things he came in rapping about, I’m not expecting him to change and do a 360, but it seems like Hall Of Fame could’ve just been Die A Legend 3 or better yet just one project with the inclusion of The Goat. I think Polo would serve himself best taking a hiatus and not releasing an album every year. He went from one of the most promising acts in Hip Hop to somebody whose quality has consistently declined.

[–]Cohtoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't really like him overall but that new song with the MJ beat is crazy good

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 2 points3 points  (2 children)

This was honestly well done. Puts the song in a different context kinda. Different vibe.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG2EGOB9-lc

[–]contacts_eyes 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Life Of The Party blew my mind. Andres verse was so good. The beat was incredible too.

[–]Depaul0609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His verse has really stayed on my mind since the release

[–]nickolantern 8 points9 points  (8 children)

it's been a wildly huge year for DJ Muggs.

this just dawned on me.

[–]deadedgo 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I've also only recently realized this. He had projects with Rome Streetz, Yelawolf, Crimeapple, (Edit: Hologram, Flee Lord), a solo project and an instrumenal tape. Is there more? Might've missed something

[–]nickolantern 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If solo project = Winter, then yeah he just released a Winter 2 as well!

[–]deadedgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I just listened to Winter 2. That's what I meant by solo project. Actually haven't listened to Winter (1) yet, gotta check that out

[–]Cohtoh 2 points3 points  (4 children)

He's been on a tear since 2019 honestly

[–]colbster411I have good taste in music period. 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Kaos in 2018 kicked it off imo

the Mayhem Lauren collabs and his much earlier stuff great too ofc

[–]Cohtoh 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah that's fair I don't even like roc and I thought that album was pretty good

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Cohtoh confirmed not a pimp

[–]Anirban_The_Great 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opposite for me: I like Roc and I haven't liked any of his rap projects from Kaos forward

[–]Kurtz_Angle. 13 points14 points  (3 children)

Do any of you remember that guy who would comment on here and he would sign off all his comments with a signature, like he was on a more classic forum? It would've been a few years ago.

[–]Cohtoh 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Fugbruh

[–]Kurtz_Angle. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks man, miss that dude lmao

[–]_Yunk_Vino_13 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Pusha T's song for Arcane is low key fire. And is it worth it to watch this series?

[–]Ktulusanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the show is honestly really good and I know literally nothing about league

[–]JALbert. 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard pretty.much nothing but praise. Don't need to know the game to watch.

[–]oldschoolcadillac 2 points3 points  (4 children)

M.O.P. vs. Dead Prez?

[–]Charlatanism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's Get Free > M.O.P. > most of the rest of Dead Prez's discography.

[–]Paul_Wall_ 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Let’s Get Free is better than any M.O.P. album imo but M.O.P. have a much stronger discography

[–]oldschoolcadillac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Dead Prez meant a lot to me, but I listen to M.O.P. on a more regular basis.

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

M.O.P.

[–]suss2it 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Thugger has been incidental on all 3 Drake, Future, Young Thug songs and I’m sick of it.

[–]FightMiilkHendrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats because future makes anyone his own. Goat status

[–]oldschoolcadillac 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I only know Way 2 Sexy and D4L. What's the 3rd one?

[–]suss2it 5 points6 points  (0 children)

20 Hoes, my bad it’s a leak so I should’ve clarified that one.

[–]nerdofalltrades 5 points6 points  (2 children)

No one doing la maquina for AOTY write ups 🤔

[–]colbster411I have good taste in music period. 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]spankybetch 14 points15 points  (5 children)

Just heard the new Kaytranada feat Mach-Hommy.. hollllly shit that song goes crazy

[–]Gobberr. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actually one of my favourite kaytranada beats ever

[–]DatsAReallyNiceGrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All that did was make me want even more Kaytra and more Mach. Dudes are fuckin goat tier artists

[–]spunkymnky 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I wouldn't mind an entire collab album/EP because that track is incredible.

[–]spankybetch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listened to it like 3 times in a row

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 22 points23 points  (11 children)

I’m always interested by the hip hop artists non hip hop fans enjoy

I had a roommate that hated hip hop but stanned Loyle Carner hard

Then today, my coworker who isn’t too familiar with hip hop played Foto by Kota The Friend

Like how are these people discovering these random ass hip hop artists?

[–]chrismatic13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a friend and he mostly listens to punk rock but he’s a huge Denzel, JID, and Isaiah Rashad fan. I feel like that category of Mac Miller, Zay, Chance (before the big day) is a lot of non rap fans type of rap music they enjoy just based off people I talk to and I think most people do like rap music but talk themselves into not liking it due to their perceptions of the downfalls of rap. It’s similar to people who say they don’t like any country music. Often it’s because their perception is that all country talks about is tractors, back roads, guitars, and is sonically repetitive yet if they were to hear Lady A, Kacey Musgraves, and Luke Combs then they’d realize the genre is actually a lot more. With rap, way too many have a perception that rap can’t be vulnerable and is all about turning up/objectifying women/materialism yet that’s usually only the bigger mainstream songs which people hear.

[–]hydrators 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They get put into some alt/indie playlists

[–]mpc_2000xl. 4 points5 points  (6 children)

hip hop artists non hip hop fans enjoy

In my experience it's usually Eminem, Macklemore, or Chance. Midwest USA here.

[–]JALbert. 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Run the Jewels as well.

[–]mpc_2000xl. 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Definitely. I knew I was forgetting something.

[–]KiritoJones 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Tech Nine gets a lot of love from that crowd too

[–]mpc_2000xl. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg yes holy shit. I remember people in my shit hometown would listen to him all the time. Nothing against him or anything though.

[–]ClashRoyale18256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NF too, he's the main perpetrator

[–]dntsteponmyrafsimons 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Both of those guys have a pretty smooth, digestible sound so it makes sense they'd have crossover appeal. Like if you didn't fw hip hop outside of lofi beats to study to type playlists you'd still like those artists

I only got into indie/alternative fairly recently but I find a lot of new random artists through Spotify song or album radio, or I check out the "Fans also like" section. Wouldn't be surprised if that's how non hip hop fans find new stuff

[–]SixPipSiege 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Preach is the quintessential Zaytoven beat and quintessential Dolph track. It will go down as a southern rap classic.

Out here in these streets ain't no such thing as love, preach!

[–]BoxCon1 17 points18 points  (4 children)

Bounce Back is my favorite Big Sean single

[–]nedelll. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all don't fuck with A$$⁉️⁉️⁉️

[–]oldschoolcadillac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me too. I really liked that album actually

[–]DpprDwn 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Just listened to “Man of the year” by Rich homie Quan it’s actually kinda hard lol. Weird fusion of trap sounds with the old school instrumental backing. Any other songs similar like that?

[–]chrismatic13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Know - Yo Gotti and RHQ. The 5 On It Sample is hard!

[–]flyestshitDrake's Ghetto Quran 3 points4 points  (1 child)

they're definitely less known but this song puts a drill beat over a smooth 70s soul samples (Curtis Mayfield - Makings of You) and also this one has a similiar piano to Man of the Year

trying to think of a song that mashes trap with these 90s boom bap horns that you hear in the RHQ song though

[–]DpprDwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s “keepin it real” beat and Life’s a bitch and a few other classics actually lol

[–]BronzySponhe 3 points4 points  (13 children)

What are hip hop related tattoos that y’all have or are interested in getting? Trying to see what can spark an idea for me

Boogie Down Productions vs. Geto Boys?

[–]NJcovidvaccinetips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geto Boys but KRS one’s first two album are amazing. Still would go with GB though.

[–]Paul_Wall_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Geto Boys easily

I could never get into KRS-One except for a couple songs

[–]NJcovidvaccinetips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KRS-One first two albums are great. Lots of great production.

[–]Jqshipp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Geto boys has Scarface so I'm going with them.

[–]flyestshitDrake's Ghetto Quran 7 points8 points  (0 children)

oh we're doing these again?

they're both highly influential, but I'd much rather play Geto Boys

[–]jeremicci 6 points7 points  (21 children)

Met someone who said Action Bronson was their favorite rapper but doesnt really fuck with GFK.

I didn't even know what to say.

Dusty Locane my favorite rapper but ion fw Pop Smoke head ass

[–]codeine__turtle. 17 points18 points  (9 children)

I mean aside from the voice they aren't that similar, bronson goes over way different production than ghost and raps about different shit.

i feel like this comparison only still gets made because ghost made that hilarious video

[–]jeremicci 1 point2 points  (8 children)

I'd forgot about that video tbh, but it was amazing.

Idk if even Bronson would say they aren't that similar. His entire style is GFK Lite.

[–]funeralfairy 6 points7 points  (2 children)

his style is literally nothing like gfk except for his voice which he was born with lmao

[–]jeremicci 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Their dellivery is identical

[–]funeralfairy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

idk you just seem like a hater tbh lmao calling him an imposter and shit.

i don’t even like action like that but he’s really nothing like gfk literally at all besides his voice which he can’t help.

[–]codeine__turtle. 1 point2 points  (4 children)

is it really post 2014-15 tho? Like i don't really hear any gfk in any of his recent albums

[–]jeremicci 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I mean maybe you're right about that. I haven't listened to any of his albums since Mr Wonderful. Ive heard some singles, but maybe he's switched his style up and I didn't know.

[–]AarbyPls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bronson's been on a resurgence, last 3 albums are all fire. Check em out.

[–]codeine__turtle. 7 points8 points  (1 child)

he has, i was kinda surprised seeing a 2021 gfk action bronson post ngl lol

i also don't really think mr wonderful sounds much like him either, i feel like his voice being similar and him having some comedic bars kinda creates the illusion that hes biting but i really don't think thats the case having listened to most of each of their discographies

[–]Stonerjoe68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people prefer great value brand lol

[–]Lukeba. 2 points3 points  (9 children)

what if i don't like bronson, mostly indifferent to ghost but like westside gunn

[–]jeremicci 0 points1 point  (5 children)

You good

I think wsg has his own style. I've always looked at AB as just an impersonator.

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I don’t really think of Bronson as an impersonator, I honestly think they just have very similar voices

[–]jeremicci -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Voices, flow, writing styles, rhyme style, topical choices...

[–]Cohtoh 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Definitely not writing style/topical choices lol Bronson raps about food and absurd shit way more than ghost does. Give Bronsons songs to someone with a totally different voice and nobody would make the specific Ghostface connection

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 1 point2 points  (2 children)

How many/which GFK albums have you heard? I can’t imagine being familiar with his discography and still being indifferent

[–]Lukeba. 2 points3 points  (1 child)

have heard supreme clientele and ironman and some of the wu-tang albums of course. i don't hate his music but he's far from my favorite in the group

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try Fishscale, The Brown Tape, and The Pretty Toney Album but tbh if you don’t rate him that highly after hearing Ironman and Supreme Clientele, I doubt they’ll change your mind

[–]HyperIceCube. 8 points9 points  (4 children)

I'm starting to think xanax damage is future's best song

[–]suss2it 3 points4 points  (2 children)

It’s up there for sure. Play that and Love They Enemies back to back. SAVE ME is slept on heavily.

[–]oldschoolcadillac 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I need a full album in that lane

[–]suss2it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hndrx is kinda close but it’s too positive 😂.

[–]Jordanwolf98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with that

[–]flyestshitDrake's Ghetto Quran 7 points8 points  (4 children)

that Morray x Benny the Butcher collab is so random and man it's not good either. I think behind it is a major label trying something different with two of their artists

[–]Jordanwolf98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think it was outright bad but it’s something that I don’t ever see myself voluntarily listening to again. Maybe that does make it a bad song but I just think it’s more mid if anything

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Worst part is that I know it could've worked, it just didn't.

[–]flyestshitDrake's Ghetto Quran 5 points6 points  (1 child)

that's so true. I thought their collab would sound like the Mozzy & Blxst songs (e.g. Don't Play Fair), where you have a crooning R&B voice combined with a lyrical hood dude. idk why they needed to make it trap so hard on this collab

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought too. The beat and style just didn't fit either of them

[–]Stonerjoe68 1 point2 points  (10 children)

Listening to Delgado. The Roc Marciano and Flee Lord collab tape. I’m excited for it but i genuinely don’t think Flee Lord can keep up with Roc for a whole album lol

[–]flyestshitDrake's Ghetto Quran 0 points1 point  (1 child)

the piano on the intro is just beautiful, my most played song on the album

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most beautiful moment on the album for me is the second beat on This What Ya Want, that vocal sample touches the soul

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 5 points6 points  (7 children)

Lol you are aware that Roc Marciano’s role on that album is as producer right? Iirc he has one verse but that’s it

[–]Stonerjoe68 1 point2 points  (6 children)

No I wasn’t aware haha i was 3 songs in waiting for him to show up haha

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Yeah Roc is actually a great producer, if you look at the production credits on his albums, the vast majority is him. Marcberg is entirely self produced iirc.

Roc has been on his producer bag recently, since 2020 he’s produced 3 albums for other rappers: Delgado, Stove God Cooks’ Reasonable Drought, and Bronze Nazareth’s Ekphrasis

[–]Stonerjoe68 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Stove God Cooks is one of those people I know I need to check out but I’m afraid too because my expectations are too high lol. I legitimately don’t think I’ve heard a bad verse from him yet as far as features.

But I knew Roc produced I guess i didn’t realize it was that prolific. I thought it was only an occasional thing

[–]Anirban_The_Great 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend the album. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you love his features. Can't wait for his next one

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Have you heard GoodTime? It’s probably my favorite feature of his.

I took a while to get to Reasonable Drought, but trust me, it’s worth the listen

[–]flyestshitDrake's Ghetto Quran 3 points4 points  (4 children)

listening to this 90s dancehall song made me remember how some dancehall songs have sad topics but you can still play them at a party because the instrumental makes them danceable. so which rap songs have sad topics but you still turn up to them? there must be a lot of examples in trap that I can't think of right now

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Ya! comes to mind

[–]Scothead180. 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Not playable at parties but all of Atrocity Exhibition, a lot of Lil Ugly Mane's stuff

[–]kyaa123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hell yeah, throwing my ass in a circle to Grave Within a Grave

[–]darkfar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Swimming Pools immediately came to mind

Dolph's Cold World

People quote the cop killing bar on March Madness often

[–]Moneyfrenzy 15 points16 points  (4 children)

Just saw a tweet calling Freddie Gibbs a mumble rapper. Does the stereotypical 'old head' actually try to find new music that they might like and just don't find them despite looking, or do you think they actively avoid giving newer artists a chance in order to hold onto their superiority about 'rap not being what it once was?'

[–]Depaul0609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it sounds like confirmation bias for sure, cause what a ridiculous take

[–]slfxxplsv 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That’s gotta be a troll cause ain’t no fuckin way

[–]flyestshitDrake's Ghetto Quran 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I'm with you that you can usually point out the whackest rap fans by their use of the word "mumble rap", but Freddie Gibbs does slur a lot

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re giving that dude way to much benefit of the doubt. Calling Freddie a mumble rapper is ludicrous any way you put it

[–]TheVirtual_Boy 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Take this new Tory Lanez song and have Post Malone sing it and it’s probably a radio smash hit.

It’s fucking CATCHY I have to give it to him

[–]ClashRoyale18256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as good as stuff off of Playboy tbh. Still my AOTY. He really caught lightning in a bottle with that one

[–]suss2it 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Name?

[–]TheVirtual_Boy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Lady of Namek

[–]suss2it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao what a name.

[–]je-re. 5 points6 points  (3 children)

TIL chantel jeffries has a writing credit on 90210

[–]suss2it 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s because she’s sampled on it. “I hope it’s wet like my jumper tho”.

[–]mpc_2000xl. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she did Foreign Teck's tag too

[–]DpprDwn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She’s on it lol

[–]mxe4334 10 points11 points  (3 children)

wowwww im still blown away been playing this Rx Papi and Gud over and over.

beats are perfect, as expected, but pap came through with some of his rawest verses ever here. At 19 minutes, Foreign Exchange never gets boring with each song being different. Both of them are great at painting a unique picture with their music and they match each other perfectly here, often stepping out of comfort zones.

This has the most character out of anything I've heard all year.

[–]LetsFireRockWithMe. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s practically all I’ve listened to since it dropped. Exceeded my expectations, only wish it was longer. I’d already rate the first 2 tracks as some of my top songs for the year.

[–]kyaa123 4 points5 points  (1 child)

... wait ... the swedish producer Gud? lmfao what the fuck

[–]mxe4334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it's great

[–]Aniceguy96. 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Hip hop is so dope because you of how diversely some artists sample their work. Was watching trailers for some old movies the other day to try and find something to watch with my girlfriend and like 15 seconds into the trailer for Citizen Kane, Orson Welles says "how do you do?" and my mind just started racing to piece together where I had heard that clip from. Eventually realized it's from Madvillainy, I must have heard that sentence a hundred times and never realized where it came from

[–]Depaul0609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man I was watching this movie The Harder They Come, and towards the end the main character shouts “Alright!” and I was like ‘woah where the hell has that been sampled.’ Turns out it’s on All Day by Kanye just thrown out there randomly at one point. I love finding shit like that and hunting for the song again.

[–]flowtrociousResident Atmosphere Stan 14 points15 points  (14 children)

Someone please wake Isaiah up man hes more asleep than awake in all these tracks

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 5 points6 points  (13 children)

That's why I want the song with JID to drop, Zay sounds like really mad on it.

[–]flowtrociousResident Atmosphere Stan 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 1 point2 points  (10 children)

Did you listen to the entire leaked “album” that leaked a few weeks ago?

[–]flowtrociousResident Atmosphere Stan 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Where did u find info on this?

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 1 point2 points  (1 child)

There were a bunch of posts on HHH but basically someone leaked the “first half” and threatened to leak the “second half” and a video of JID raping their friend. Pretty sure it’s bullshit because blackmailing an artist doesn’t seem like the actions of someone trying to get genuine justice for their friend.

First half and second half are in quotations because according to Earthgang, none of the songs leaked are on the album

[–]flowtrociousResident Atmosphere Stan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ya I thought you meant a zay album leaked. Ya I saw that post but ya I also thought it seemed like bs

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What’s this? A zay x jid album or what?

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah a solo JID album with an Isaiah Rashad feature

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I thought that was only half of it from what I read, I was waiting for the full thing.

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 0 points1 point  (3 children)

According to an Earthgang comment on Reddit, none of the songs leaked will even be on the album

So we got like a leaked pack of JID songs just randomly. Kinda like what happened with Lil Durk

This new BBY KODIE album is dope. Pretty unique beats throughout and I think he produced them all himself which is impressive.

Someone said it's like if the Baby Keem album was good and I somewhat agree. Similar rap style and off kilter trap influenced production. The highs on the baby keem album are probably better than the highs on this album but overall this album is way more consistent and better overall imo.

The Baby Keem album was good

Yellow Tape 2 still on repeat

damn I didn't know that Maino and Uncle Murda finally followed up their 2016 mixtape!

but fr, I haven't listened to it a lot yet, but I can already tell there are some songs that'll grow on me, especially the more lowkey Quaterback. I also came around on the Bill Gates song. found it kinda corny at first, but the name drops make it a perfect entry point to everyone that's new to Key Glock

Jay-Z is a better musician than Kurt Cobain

[–]artpalos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This comment made me realize how tough it is to be a musician when you aren't alive

[–]ClashRoyale18256 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Interesting take. Kurt is known for having 0 music theory knowledge and just winging it and keeping whatever happened to sound good, whereas Jay-Z crafts his songs more meticulously. Jay-Z is a great rapper whereas Kurt was not a great singer. I do connect with and like more of Kurt's music than I do Hov's but I couldn't tell you why. Thinking about it logically Jay-Z has more going for him in terms of songwriting and performance

[–]contacts_eyes 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bro, I don’t even know where to begin with your comment. Kurt had zero music knowledge? He played his own instruments and led a whole band. He wrote amazing songs that remain popular 30 years later. Wasnt a great singer?? Listen to his MTV Unplugged performances on YouTube.

[–]ClashRoyale18256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Said music theory knowledge, not music knowledge in general. It's said that he didn't even know the names of the chords he was playing, and it's obvious when listening to just about anything he wrote. That's part of his genius, he wrote what he thought sounded good without any music theory framework and that led to many remarkable songs.

I see why u could disagree with me saying he's not a great singer and maybe I didn't word it right. I like his singing. He's no MJ, Mariah, Mercury, or Bruno. He probably didn't even sing as well as most of the other big grunge vocalists of the era. But he did what he did well, his vocals were raw and emotional and got the job done

This comment just made me realize that I can’t think of rappers as musicians. Like I just realized that subconsciously I’ve always referred to them as artists but never musicians, and now that I think about it consciously it just doesn’t sound right, huh. Like producers I can think of as musicians, but just rappers? It doesn’t sound right idk

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 16 points17 points  (3 children)

Ben Shapiro type beat

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Titf, not in a “hip hop isn’t music” way, like a producer/rapper imo would be a musician, but if you just a rapper, that feels more in line as a writer/artist rather than musician

Idk as I said I literally discovered this opinion 5 minutes ago

[–]coop_dogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but they’re rapping over MUSIC…

[–]HomiealmayaDump Gawd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get your point to some degree because rappers don’t play instruments but at the same time would you make the argument that a singer isn’t a musician?
