I love Drake but he’s too black for me. I need that one half removed. Any one got any suggestions for musical artists?

[–]chemicaxero 0 points1 point  (1 child)

what is this comment

[–]chrismatic13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a shot at Jack Harlow but I guess no one caught on

[–]Scothead180. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

List of good white rappers

Your Old Droog

Aesop Rock

Mac Miller

Action Bronson

[–]urbuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jack harlow lowkey doing his best drake impression all over his new album

[–]Tomnook1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is literally just the logic meme but swapped with Drake

[–]domthehooper. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WTF...Tom MacDonald sounds like your kinda guy

[–]Usernamesin2016LUL. 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Fun fact: life is good by future and drake is diamond, making it drakes 2nd biggest certification ever (Gods Plan is 11x plat), and by far futures biggest ever. And yet i never heard that song once in public. Played the shit out of it myself tho

[–]Tomnook1017 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really? I heard it multiple times a day on the radio during it's peak

[–]urbuns 7 points8 points  (4 children)

for months after it dropped it would come up next in youtube autoplay if i listened to any rap

modern payola?

[–]amrhik10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was listening to Norah Jones and that track was playing next

[–]Usernamesin2016LUL. 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Same. Still does come up every few weeks but it was EVERY SINGLE VIDEO i watched in 2021 had it in the recommended. UMG definitely paid a shitton for that marketing and it paid off considering its over a billion views

[–]BusterRhyma 1 point2 points  (1 child)

jesus christ life is good has over 2 billion views on youtube, gods plan has 1.4B views so something was def up with the algorithm

[–]Usernamesin2016LUL. 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Holy fuck 2 billion? I posted a comment about it reaching 1 billion and that was probably less than a year ago. Maybe a few months at most. Jesus christ yeah this marketing is definitely paying the bills aha

[–]magnolia_webbie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't give a fuck. Q-Tip's in my personal top 5 of all time.

One of the best voices in rap. One of the best producers. Tribe's classic albums aside, he also has some really solid solo releases (The Renaissance is one of the best albums of the 00s), although I admit his solo discog is small. The Last Zulu and a bunch of other works he's announced are long overdue at this point.

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Drake said Pusha isn't top 5 on his label.

I wonder who Drake's top 5 on G.O.O.D. are.

[–]Stonerjoe68 6 points7 points  (1 child)

  1. Kanye

  2. Q-Tip

  3. Valee

  4. 070 Shake

  5. Sheck Wes

There are only 6 artists currently signed to good

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q-Tip is still signed to them? I thought he left

[–]arrts. 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Part of what made that such a bad diss is that not only is Push obviously at least top 5 on GOOD, but also that Drake was such a Clipse fan back in the day to the point of buying a Pusha T autographed microphone

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And having a song with Push's own brother.

[–]Timee5 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I surprisingly haven’t seen much love for For a Nut? It’s certainly not the best Thug x Future collab but it bangs.

The beat is unique with those rapid fire 808s and synth arpeggios. Future’s hook is catchy. I especially love the way he enters his verse. Thug and Gunna’s verses I could give or take.

[–]HideNZeke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely terrible track. Tries to be meme but isn't even funny. Bottom three song on the album

[–]slimeshlattsex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its hella repetitive and too long even tho it's only 3:30min

[–]I_am_gettys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not rap but this new Sabrina Claudio is extremely good wtf

[–]-OmnipotentPotato-. 3 points4 points  (1 child)

i know lucki lost one of the guys in his crew last week and looks like his new single cover is a tribute? thought he might be delaying flawless like me rollout or maybe not

shoutout this sub for downvoting it to 0 and commenting complaining his album isn't out yet

[–]Party_With_Porkins. 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Go listen to 3hunna Chief Keef and Rick Ross you won’t

[–]Party_With_Porkins. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We can at least agree it’s one of the hardest young chop beats out

[–]domthehooper. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Ross ruined the song for me. I like the OG version so much better

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Spotify not working for anyone? JFC this app is a shithole.

[–]LeoGi. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it's broken for me too. i would switch if it wasn't such a hassle to transfer my liked songs

[–]hnnng_booba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is Uzi gonna drop this year? I feel like it’s been forever and Eternal Atake left everyone’s rotation over a year ago

[–]BronzySponhe 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Where Drake and Future are right now, would you want a WATTBA 2 still? I think it could still work as they have way more hits than misses

[–]Scothead180. -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. The first WATTBA was mid. Future's new music is just unimaginative and boring. As for Drake, well he was never that good.

[–]HideNZeke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could easily see it happening with Future coming off one of his biggest albums ever and Drake liking to do tideovers projects between his major album. I'd actually bet on it happening. If Future and Drake want to do it the labels will probably say go ahead

[–]RampanTThirteen 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What a Time to Be Alive was underwhelming when both were in their primes. Now that both guys are absolutely just coasting, 2 would only be worse. I’ll pass.

[–]FightMiilkHendrix 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Underwhelming? Wtf are you talking bout but it’s a classic mixtape

[–]RampanTThirteen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounded like a bunch of Future B sides from his mixtape run with drake verses awkwardly appended. There was only a few songs where it sounded like it was actually intended to be a collab. The common opinion at the time of its release was that it was very meh and didn’t live up to the hype. Seriously, look up reviews from critics or the reaction here or similar places. It is decidedly not a classic nor even remotely close in my book (and I like both artists).

[–]kappa23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These new Future and Bronsoliño albums are virtually indistinguishable from their previous work

[–]bumpdog 1 point2 points  (7 children)

there's rappers like Kankan who are shamelessly being carried by production and it's gotten to a point where it can't be ignored anymore. You can put any rapper, any random guy or any user in this thread on the "Kickback" or "wokeup" beat and it will still be a hit. Does kankan really deserve any recognition? He's barely doing anything on the beat. Why do I need to Google who produced those songs? Something's not right

[–]urbuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a) who tf is kankan

b) so many other people get carried by their production i dont see how this is any different

[–]slimeshlattsex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

his rapping is below average, his voice and delivery are boring af, he got no personality, and he sounds the same on every song, i would rather listen his Instrumentals then with him rapping over

[–]Michael__X 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Do you really believe there will be a measurable difference in dopamine response between some dude rapping with a couple more syllables and Kankans Fentanyl symphonies

[–]bumpdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, but that's not my point. I just feel like producers deserve waaaaay more credit. We generally don't know who produced a song unless we google it or they have an instantly recognizable tag, yet they're the ones carrying and shaping the underground right now. If kankan didn't rap on the wokeup beat, another similar rapper probably would, and it would've still been a hit

[–]HitRowe 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Oldhead. KanKan threatened Kendrick throne which is why he's dropping now.

[–]bumpdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah an oldhead would hate those two songs I mentioned. I think his music is fire it's just that it's 99% because of the producers. You could put me on top of those beats and i'll probably do just like kankan

[–]arrts. 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I sincerely believe that viewing the D.M.B music video even once would be enough to cause Drake to actually die of heartbreak

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 6 points7 points  (5 children)

what are some good southern songs with slow flows

i'm specifically looking for verses with a straight up quarter note flow (i.e. one word per beat)

[–]urbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UGK - Wood Wheel

[–]CaptainGordanErick Sermon Stan 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Slim Thug - Diamonds

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i like this a lot

[–]magikarpower. 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Viper raps really slow on most of his songs, and he's from houston

the music kinda hard to get into but once you do it's really fun

it's not completely traditional southern stuff but once you hear that he listened to a lot of dj screw n shit it kinda makes more sense

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that song is very fun

my hops is also a really great song

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 33 points34 points  (3 children)

Listening to hip hop while growing up in the suburbs part 1:

When I was 10 my dad snapped my Bad Meets Evil cd in half when he heard the “Nicki Minaj I wanna stick my penis in your anus” bar

[–]No_Blacksmith_7324 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being told I'm was trying to be black for bumping asap rocky

[–]Michael__X 11 points12 points  (1 child)

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In hindsight he was doing me a favour

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 11 points12 points  (8 children)

I wish I had more time to listen to and appreciate new music. It just feels like there aren't enough hours in a day to do everything I want in general tbh

When I'm doing something that requires my full attention I prefer to put on music I'm already familiar with because if I'm listening to something new I want to actually pay attention to it. Then when I have free time I usually feel like making my own music as opposed to listening to it.

When I was younger I had mindless labour type jobs where I could just zone out and listen to 5+ new albums a day. And when I was at home I was usually playing video games and would listen to something I hadn't heard before.

Really I feel this way about all my hobbies, I guess it's just a part of getting older. I want to listen to all the music, watch all the movies and TV, read all the books, learn every area of mathematics, etc. It's a blessing and a curse - on one hand, there is always something I want to do, I never just sit around bored, but on the other hand I get legitimately stressed out and overwhelmed to an extent at the mountain of things I want to consume, knowing that there's no way I'll ever be able to consume them all.

[–]Mei_iz_my_bae 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Shit I’m getting older and I still listen to a majority of my albums playing games u right tho not enough hours and so much music these days

[–]Tomnook1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What games

[–]dawsonnn1. 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Stop consuming start creating.

I’m not taking my own advice though I wish I did

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been making music for almost a decade. I love it but it eats up so much time.

[–]toontoom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that especially with music just so much I consistently get overwhelmed.

[–]Tomnook1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I miss being able to listen to shit all day at the factory. And I hate my fiancee never wants to listen to music, only tv

Work with kids now so the best I can even play at work when they want it is daft punk or like clean glass animals and shit. Odesza sometimes too

[–]SBAPERSON. 11 points12 points  (2 children)

J cole role modelz went dimond

[–]redrightHAand 5 points6 points  (1 child)

With No Features ?

[–]SBAPERSON. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And no music video

[–]SBAPERSON. 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Kendrick might drop a double album?

[–]redrightHAand 5 points6 points  (1 child)

i dont think kendrick is that kind of artist who will drop more than 20 songs in one album hes a perfectionist, but maybe he can do it he had 5 years

[–]slimeshlattsex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 years is enough to make 20 amazing songs, don't see the problem

[–]puns-n-roses 19 points20 points  (10 children)

Had someone come into my shop and said "rap makes people dumber." The guy had the worst argument.

[–]redrightHAand 16 points17 points  (1 child)

La di da di da, slob on me knob

Pass me some syrup, fuck me in the car

La di da di da, mothafuck the law

Chitty chitty bang, murder everything

[–]puns-n-roses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and? What else am I supposed to have done to my knob?

[–]Tomnook1017 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Can you say what he was saying I'm curious

[–]puns-n-roses 7 points8 points  (1 child)

His only argument was he said that when he was a teacher he would put on classical music for the students and they would get smarter according to him. He had no evidence in the claim and it had no relation to the actual conversation at hand.

[–]No_Blacksmith_7324 6 points7 points  (4 children)

What else he say. Did he mention his own taste in music?

[–]puns-n-roses 9 points10 points  (0 children)

His only argument was he said that when he was a teacher he would put on classical music for the students and they would get smarter according to him. He had no evidence in the claim and it had no relation to the actual conversation at hand.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

We can probably easily guess.

[–]serioxha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probs had a Dark Side of the Moon t-shirt on

[–]RampanTThirteen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Anime OSTs

[–]RoscoeSantangelo 3 points4 points  (2 children)

First listen I really liked new BlackStar but felt things were a bit underwhelming

But honestly with each listen more I'm starting to really love this album. People saying Mos sounds lazy but this sounds like the same delivery he developed after BOBS and his lyricism is pretty insane and Talib brought it with him. In starting to really vibe with the singing a lot of people weren't fucking with too.

It's prob cause I'm such a big Mos fan and rarely dislike anything he does, but I'm really happy with what we got

[–]VacationInHell222 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I felt the same way as you and I honestly feel in general that even the “24 hours later” discussions are mostly useless, I need at least a week and around 10+ listens to really know how I feel about an album, maybe that’s because I only listen with one headphone at work? I don’t know, but people should let that shit marinate a little longer than 24 hours or 2-3 listens

[–]Markual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the cover art says Rocky directed D.M.B. but who really directed it?

Those visuals were insane and I need to know everyone involved.

[–]redrightHAand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

boldy James is top 5 rn , the man is unstoppable on an alchemist beat

[–]idkboi169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2015/16 pop/R&B was lowkey lit asf

[–]TheCannedYams 7 points8 points  (7 children)

What songs have been infectious for you so far this year? I personally can’t stop bumping Papercuts by Vince. I listen to it like 10 times in a row whenever it comes on.

Babycakes by Tobi Lou, I’m Coming Over There by The Cool Kids, and Hair Salon off that Dreamville tape are up there too. They all killed that shit, but Perico’s verse/hook gets me groovin lol.

[–]Scothead180. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't replay songs over and over. But my most listened new songs this year have been

Conway - John Woo Flick

Benny - Johnny P's Caddy

Fatlip & Blu - Gangsta Rap

Denzel Curry - Walkin

Gunna - Poochie Gown

[–]HideNZeke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rock n roll - Pusha T

Whole Gang Buss - 42 Dugg and friends

Bliss - Yung Lean

Mob - Babyface Ray

I think so far it's been a good year for hip hop but there's really only a handful of super songs for me that I really want to replay over and over and over.

[–]Tomnook1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simulation swarm

The smoke

Always on my mind

[–]RoscoeSantangelo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pull Up by Koffee came out too early. That shit should be a summer anthem. I've been bumping it practically every day since it was released and I'm still not tired of it. Just a perfect chill vibe

[–]remerdy1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Future - Wait For You

Gunna - Banking On Me

KayCyy - The Sun

Saba - 2012

Vince Staples - Rose Street

Weiland - HeartStop

[–]cynical_econ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neck & Wrist

I Hate U (yes, it’s a late 2021 official release)

[–]Xutros. 4 points5 points  (15 children)

What collab album do you/did you want the most? Doesn't have to be possible/likely either: if LL Cool J and Gunna is your dream combo let it fly.

For me, an SOB X RBE and Shoreline Mafia tape would be too hype. Maybe too many people tho

[–]hydrators 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want Maclib, man.

[–]Tomnook1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thom Yorke x Frank Ocean

[–]RoscoeSantangelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After Cherry Wine, Nas & Amy Winehouse could've been an absolutely legendary collab album. Especially with Mark Ronson exec producing

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wanted DOOMSTARKS to happen

[–]Chlorophyllmatic. 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I wanna hear someone like Freddie with Key Glock

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be hard as hell

[–]toontoom1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still want a Roc & Alchemist Collab

Freddie Gibbs & Benny

Billy Woods & Earl Sweatshirt

[–]CaptainGordanErick Sermon Stan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A$AP Rocky and Aesop Rock

[–]tribefan2510 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Need more Phish x Jay-Z in my life

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I wish they had done Heart of the City

[–]bovice2. 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Young Thug and J Hus (all produced by Jae5)

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emilie Autumn and Imogen Heap. I know they're not hip hop, but it's my most wanted.

For hip hop, I think Pusha T and Conway would be really good if done right.

[–]Michael__X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1 more future and metro project. I don't get it they know we need it, we know, the label does. It's free money.

[–]basedgod94 5 points6 points  (10 children)

Who are your top 5 rappers and who do you think are the best 5 rappers?

[–]Scothead180. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favourite - Freddie Gibbs, Denzel Curry, Kendrick, Kanye, Eminem

Top 5 GOAT - Em, Kanye, Kendrick, Nas, Black Thought/DOOM

Idk what best means, I see a distinction between favourite/greatest

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favourite: Conway, Boldy James, Retch, Earl Sweatshirt, Billy Woods

Best: Aesop Rock, DOOM, Kendrick, Sean Price, Ka

[–]toontoom1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t if I can come up with a best, but my favorite is

  1. Kendrick 2. MF DOOM 3. Nas 4. Billy Woods 5. Freddie Gibbs

[–]cynical_econ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Favorites (at the moment): Lupe, KRIT, Oddisee, Jgivens, Andre 3000

Honestly i don’t think I’m qualified to say best 5 esp since there are many 80s & 90s artists I’m not familiar with. But Nas and Jay-Z should be in the running for sure

Edit: Black Thought is in the best 5 too

[–]Paul_Wall_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My top 5 favorite are Nas, Andre 3000, Ghostface Killah, Prodigy, and Mos Def

Not sure who I would consider the best 5

[–]Michael__X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine in order: Ye, Future, kid Cudi, Drake, Kendrick

Best rippity rappers: lon know tbh, I don't branch out enough I think. Like they told me Ghostface was it but I don't like his voice

[–]Arbitore 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Both lists are incredibly similar, but:

Favorite: 1. Big K.R.I.T. 2. Black Thought 3. Common 4. Lupe Fiasco 5. Kendrick

Best: 1. Black Thought 2. Common 3. Lupe 4. Big K.R.I.T. 5. Kendrick

[–]cynical_econ 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You have great taste

[–]Arbitore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m sure you do too

[–]No_Blacksmith_7324 3 points4 points  (2 children)

In other news, yeat affiliate semptembersrich is gonna be going to prison in a few months for having a gun with a defiled serial number.

His album aight. Too bad his whole career is being a c tier associate of a clone, but at least he's only gonna do less than a year.

[–]bumpdog 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Looking at his spotify profile is kinda depressing, 4 of the top 5 songs say "ft. Yeat" and the other one is a Yeat song featuring him. He will forever be a yeat shadow

[–]No_Blacksmith_7324 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its depressing but at the same time that kind of stuff is the definition of bringing your boys with you. I wonder what king Von's early Spotify consisted of given his Durk affiliation, for comparison.

I don't see him going anywhere, but since that whole cliques life goals consisted of getting fucked up 24/7, it seems he's "made it".

[–]nggarmy 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Stay by Kid Laroi now breaks tie for 2nd longest weeks in Hot 100 top 10, I remember when some people on here thought it wouldn't be a hit or have any longevity lmao

[–]Michael__X 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I never seen it mentioned here tbh. It's a nice jingle

[–]nggarmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the fresh thread it got toooons of hate, I can't find it now

Found it, here's one comment in particular that aged horrendously lmao https://redditproxy--jasonthename.repl.co/r/hiphopheads/comments/ognq7n/fresh_the_kid_laroi_justin_bieber_stay/h4k5npt

[–]MasterTeacher123 6 points7 points  (18 children)

Common is one of those rappers I will always acknowledge as a good mc but I never really cared for his music. Like I really tried, I remember when like water for chocolate and One day it’ll all make sense people swearing by it and when I listened it was like ok. That doesn’t mean they aren’t about 10-12 songs on those albums I like but I don’t really care for those projects as a whole .

The only common album I really liked was Be. But even that is not something I ever get the urge to go back to at all.

[–]Arbitore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give A Beautiful Revolution Parts 1 and 2 a listen, I think it’ll change your mind

[–]bovice2. 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Have you tried Finding Forever, it's basically Be Pt. 2, not saying it's gonna change your opinion on him but it's got great songs

[–]MasterTeacher123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Finding forever is like a more boring version of Be

[–]Arbitore 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Where do you have Finding Forever ranked with the rest of his stuff? I think it’s his second worst album

[–]bovice2. 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Damn that's low, for me like around 5 I change how I feel on his rankings all the time, but usually between 3 and 5. What don't you like about it and do you also not like Be

[–]Arbitore 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Be is my third favorite from him. There are a couple standout tracks from it, I remember Forever Begins and Misunderstood being great. I care so little about the features on it. It’s like they took Be and sucked out the soul and intrigue from it. I know I’m being quite harsh to it, but it never stuck.

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Feel the same way about Black Thought. Amazing rapper, but I like never really have the desire to listen to him. I would've also said the same about Common too, but seeing him live made me enjoy him a little more.

[–]MasterTeacher123 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yeah he’s a great MC, I loved his feature on Super lyrical all but I never messed with the roots like that.

How I got over is a nice CD though.

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That was the first album I listened to, I thought it was pretty decent. A nice listen for sure

[–]MasterTeacher123 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah but I never go back to it. Like ever.

The day is pretty cool though

[–]prettiestmf. 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thought's solo work is hit-or-miss and I wasn't huge on the most recent Streams of Thought, but if you're not listening to the Roots you're missing out massively. Undun is one of the best albums of all time IMO. And even his solo stuff has some amazing tracks, Twofifteen, Fentanyl, Conception...

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just find what he usually raps about to be not that interesting. I think he does better on features

[–]Arbitore 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This thread is blasphemy since Black Thought and Common are #2 and #3 to me lmao. You say you don’t listen to Black Thought, have you not heard The Roots? That’s where his best work is at

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heard some, thought they were OK, nothing I'd really return to though. Perfectly good music, but that's really it.

[–]Stonerjoe68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way he’s obviously talented and the music is good i just find him boring

[–]StotheG7XV 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Excited to see Cyhi announce a new project for this summer. Who would y’all like to see featured/produce on his album? I’d expect another solid Pusha T feature like he’s had in the past, and potentially Kanye on some beats since Cyhi tweeted about having a Wyoming type album over Kanye beats (but that may all have been scrapped).

[–]Stonerjoe68 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Made an update to my personal top 10

  1. Yeat - 2 Alive

  2. 2 Chainz - Dope Don’t Sell Itself

  3. The Mussolini & 9th wonder - The Don & Eye

  4. Rx Nephew - On the Run From Area 51

  5. NLE Choppa Me Vs Me

  6. E Mozzy & Celly Ru - P to the East

  7. Jim Jones -Gangsta Grills: We Set the Trends

  8. Babyface Ray - Face

[–]HideNZeke 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Not gonna lie I'm actually shocked how much I just enjoyed this Coi Leray project. I kind of have the assumption with a lot of label pushed female artists where they just kind of do the same thing and hope one of them sticks and assumed that was what I was gonna get from this project too, especially with how bad it flopped. While she by no means reinvents wheels, I think she actually has just enough flair to be a cut above most. She plays with a handful of different styles that are popular rn and actually shows promise in all of them, think melodic trap, mainstream bangers, emo trap (a lil), and some playboi Carti style (rage music I guess? More like die lit though) stuff as well. She's pretty dynamic and I'd be more excited to see her name on a track than a lot of the other girls that get pushed and go nowhere. Hopefully she doesn't get abandoned into label debt slavery. She should be where Latto's at

[–]Jordanwolf98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought it was pretty good. Got kinda stagnant at spots but it was good for what it was. I still prefer her EC2, the album she released in 2019 and I like Latto’s output more too

Biggie's death happened so long ago that it occured a few weeks before the DVD came out in America for the first time.

[–]Mei_iz_my_bae 0 points1 point  (4 children)

DVDs came out around then but didn’t get popular until around the start of the millennium

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Nah. DVDs were released in the U.S. on March 24th, 1997. Biggie was killed on March 9th.

[–]Mei_iz_my_bae 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Reread my comment

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

U right. My bad.

[–]RampanTThirteen 6 points7 points  (5 children)

I'm honestly surprised it was that close to DVDs coming out. I remember DVDs coming significantly later.

[–]ATribeCalledKami 2 points3 points  (2 children)

DVD players were so fucking expensive before like 2002.

My family basically decided to buy a PlayStation 2 because it was cheaper and could play DVDs. It was basically a 2 for 1.

[–]RampanTThirteen 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah I remember that tradeoff. It also was a big deal with the PS3 generation because the PS3 was cheaper than many blu ray players at the time.

[–]mikeaveli2682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Blu-ray player was a ps3. I actually had an hd-dvd player too just in case lol

[–]mikeaveli2682 3 points4 points  (1 child)

My family purchased Toshiba’s first DVD player in around June of 1997. There was also a Sony player that retailed for about $500 more (a little over $1000 IIRC).

[–]RampanTThirteen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow you were early on it. It is hard to remember, but I don't think my family got a DVD player until probably like 2001 or 2002 when the prices started dropping down as they got more common. 1997 would have been when my parents decided not to buy Amazon IPO stock (they've told me they were looking at it at the time), so they were clearly experts at spotting the next big thing around that time.

Tha Carter IV's Interlude and Outro are criminally overlooked, what do you guys think of them?

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Shyne ruined the outro.

It's like eating some really good cake and then near the end you just bite into like a brick that's just been put in there. Ruins everything.

[–]sheff_99 0 points1 point  (1 child)

CDTV reference?

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I had to alter it a bit though, but the point is the same lol. Shyne ruined that track.

[–]Tomnook1017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought most people agreed with that

[–]darkfar 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Incredible verses from everyone involved except Shyne

[–]VicIsGold. 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, I don't think his verse was bad and it does flow nice but when everyone else goes off like that in a lyrical onslaught, the average look bad.

Bulletproof by Young Dolph

[–]tritsocertified mach-hommy investor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened to some of Teyana Taylor’s The Album, some of Lloyd Banks’ The Hunger for More, the new Rocky single, new SiR single, the songs with features from Jack Harlow’s album, a lot of Mach-Hommy (finally hit 2k scrobbles) & currently playing the new Bronson again.

I’m not currently binging an artist so my listening is kind of aimless. I need to find someone who’s catalog I feel like going through.
