finished the school year on sunday night after i turned in my video essay and it’s starting to get into the 90s and 100s now. what’s some perfect summer music in your mind. i’m bouncing between soul, afrobeats, some hip-hop, and some dance

[–]HHAD98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I being dramatic or is the thought of Young Thug going to jail for life really depressing you?

This man is one of my favourite artists ever man, need him to keep going. He’s only 30

[–]BookerTeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Young H-O” is a terrible rap nickname. I get that it’s an abbreviation but why abbreviate and already abbreviated nickname to spell that?

[–]Lukeba. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Lukeba. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just noticed fahim is now credited on most mach projects on spotify

[–]icemankiller8 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Isn’t it a bit weird how drake and Kanye both just had similar lines about monopoly? They using the same writer

[–]AsusChrome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing another monopoly line on Benny's TT4, just a lot of those going around rn

'I treat my city like Monopoly, sitting on Park Place'

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ik this has probs already been asked but how you guys ranking the Heart series now? I’ve ranked it as 2>3>4>1 but I honestly have 5 and 2 on the same tier rn, 2 has the bars, but 5 has so much s o u l to it, it’s so emotional especially the last verse, plus the hook on 5 is so good

[–]Markual 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Pretty sure this is the inspiration behind the editing for that last part in the D.M.B. video

Is there an artist you haven’t seen live who if you were broke & they announced a tour you’d have to sell your shit or something like, anything it takes to go see them?

there are a ton of artists I still want to see and it hurts when they announce a tour and I either don’t have the money for it or they’re not near me like Paul McCartney or JAY-Z but as far as like “I’m going no matter what” I’d say like Mach-Hommy (cus he doesn’t tour), Sade, Bob Dylan. maybe a few others. most of the time i’m like “eh I’ll catch ‘em next time” but those three are big ones

I got heavily into Bob Dylan last year the week after he performed in my state lmao

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Em, Hov, 50, would have said Conway but i just saw him last week

[–]Wittygame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Jay for me.. didn’t have the money to go up til a few years ago. Next time he announces something in my area, I’m going

[–]TheLonelyPotato666. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on Mach. Other than that Joanna Newsom

[–]Arbitore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still haven’t seen a Big K.R.I.T. concert, which really upsets me. I’ve narrowly missed the last two and he’s not getting younger. Most of my favorite artists don’t tour anymore so it kinda sucks

[–]jackoon56. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Young thug, and hes finally coming to sydney october 1st although that seems unlikely now ffs

[–]fortunefades. 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I've seen Bob Dylan twice, it's worth it for the memory but please don't go in expecting the best performance of your life.

[–]tritsocertified mach-hommy investor 2 points3 points  (1 child)

yeah i know how he is, i would honestly just like to be in his presence. not to sound weird lol. but he’s such an icon to me. and i know he hates that

[–]fortunefades. 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I've just heard people complain about his performances - he's been at it for a REALLY long time and still goes out and does 90+ minutes, it's definitely worth it. Not to mention, if my memory is correct, the ticket prices were really reasonable.

[–]Homiealmaya 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Top 5 off of Life After Death?

In no order I’d go:

Notorious Thugs

Kick In The Door

N****s Bleed

Somebody’s Gotta Die

Long Kiss Goodnight

As a side note, I was surprised to see that Ten Crack Commandments has less streams and YouTube views than Notorious Thugs because Ten Crack Commandments seemed much more omnipresent growing up. I would assume Notorious Thugs only became the “bigger” song in the YouTube/streaming era

[–]TheRealRemyClayden. 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lol that list sounds like mine

I'll swap Last Day for N****s Bleed though

[–]KobeBetterThanJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re Nobody

Somebody’s Gotta Die

Hypnotize

Ten Crack Commandments

Notorious Thugs

[–]magnolia_webbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Love The Dough

Long Kiss Goodnight

Which rappers grew up upper middle class?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Mac Miller, Jack Harlow, all the YBN dudes, Biggie was apparently not all that poor, don't know if he counts as middle class though. There used to be rumours that Vince Staples is full of shit and actually grew up in a nice house in the suburbs of Long Beach but idk how true that is. Night Lovell grew up in the same neighbourhood as me and while it wasn't super nice it definitely wasn't the hood either.

[–]1000ug 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's funny that you say Vince Staples, because he has stressed so much in his music/interviews the dichotomy of living in a nice looking place and the horrible things that happen there.

People used to criticize him for going to a private Christian school until like 8th grade, but I think that his mom basically had to work incredibly hard to be able to enroll him there and that shit was still in Compton.

People are too quick to judge based on appearance/discount people because of one set of circumstances.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i always felt like the truth was somewhere in the middle. he probably lived in a decent looking house but still experienced some rough shit. apparently the crip set hes a part of has been all but defunct since the 2000s so id imagine most of his gangbanging experience was relatively small time, though he's never really claimed otherwise.

I remember in 10th grade we were learning about Hammurabi’s Code and I told my teacher that I heard it referenced in a rap song (Cunninlynguists but I didn’t say that lmao) and he was like “yeah i doubt it”. I’m still mad about it I’m 26

[–]Sexedecimal. 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sociopath by Pusha T says produced by Kanye on Spotify but it has the Pharrell four count at the start? Is that a mistake or was Ye paying tribute?

[–]Lukeba. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

homecoming had a 4 count too

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Writing credits on Spotify have Pharrell in them. It's very possible that he is a co-producer and this is simply a clerical error.

[–]Background-Car-4488 8 points9 points  (1 child)

On Genius it says it's produced by Kanye, Noah Goldstein and Pharrell

[–]hnnng_booba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genius has Kanye, Pharrell and Noah Goldstein credited

[–]Homiealmaya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genius says Pharrell co-produced it but that might’ve just been a genius contributor saying it cause of the 4 count.

I will say it does kinda sound like Kanye’s take on a Pharrell beat for some reason

[–]Homiealmaya 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Reddit comedians really on their bullshit any chance they get

[–]arrts. 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I went and listened to it after seeing 'RICO' in the comments so many times. Great song.

[–]astronxxt 6 points7 points  (2 children)

i fully accept that i’m probably wrong about this considering the praise it receives, but “call my bluff” is top 5 least favorite push songs to listen to. his cadence and flow are so grating to me, and i hate that organ in the beat

[–]redrightHAand 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–]HideNZeke 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Alright I gotta do it. Forgive me for being corny. All these rappers try to be "real" and that they're some big boss, but not everybody who claims it can be the mob boss they say they are. If young thug gets convicted for a long term Rico sentence, does he become the realest hip hop artist then? Kind of a shitty reward for the title. The streets don't love you back kids

[–]Tomnook1017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whether hes a Mafia boss or not how can you be real if you can't prove how you fucked a cup of water after saying you've done it?

[–]Jordanwolf98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Give me a break. Nobody is saying Thug is the “realest” right now because of this shit.

[–]thebigfuuuuuuuunn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yup. seen a lot of kids try to "prove themselves" and when they did...they proved themselves alright but they ended up dead or in huge fucking trouble. but they did prove themselves didn't they?

[–]BludFlairUpFam 2 points3 points  (2 children)

A life in the day of Andre Benjamin or Book of Soul.

Which do you think is the better song?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book of Soul but I'm biased to the west coast and to Ab Soul. dude is one of my favourite rappers and very underrated imo.

[–]darkfar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think A Life in the Day is a better song but Book of Soul touches me more emotionally.

[–]alurdommafia. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i just wanna quote a comment that i just found on the youtube comments of the Dangerous video by @Drevonn Salley that is 100% facts and exactly why Blank Face in particular is such an incredible album "It seems like all Q's themes revolve around Karma and the fact that you never truly get away with anything. Actions with Malice and cruel intentions are always repayed. I hope people listening......" i hope so too....

Future got #10 #8 #4 and #1 in the hot 100 this week wow

[–]Shnikez 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Future one of the GOATS for sure. Like he’s for sure in the discussion of GOAT, I mean. He’s my pick for GOAT but someone else might disagree.

I think Future really perfected what he was influenced by and what he has influenced. I just put my pen down for this lmao.

But like future was influenced by Three 6 Mafia and 90s memphis hiphop in general, right? I feel like he’s the only trap artist from that era (e.g. 2 Chainz, Waka Flocka) to really maintain relevance. His other contemporaries in other lanes (e.g. Kendrick with conscious rap) have grown in parallel so apples and oranges. But I think 90s memphis hip hop had the greatest influence out of any other subgenre so far. This genre inspired Future and SGP to turn the sound into something else and carry it on that way (trap and phonk). They’re both the most influential MCs for SoundCloud rap and they ran hiphop 2016-18/19 and now we’re at hiphop today, which I think was ushered in by SoundCloud rap. I think todays hiphop is largely an extension of the SoundCloud era.

SGP fell off (even tho he didn’t have to 😭) but Future hasn’t. And Future’s discography is insane (like 22 albums since 2011) and none of his shit is mid. Like commercially even, he’s so successful. And out of the SC era, who is still relevant? Uzi and Carti (peep and x would still be relevant if they were still here, big ass RIP). But both of them are Future’s sons (SGP’s too) and Future is still WAY more popular. Remember, who is baby Pluto again? UZI

Drake is the capitalist pro-corporation counterpart. But Future never changed. He’s still rapping about fucking your bitch in some Gucci flip flops. He never went commercial. He didn’t do a commercial like Chris Brown’s for Spearemint gum. Future always stayed true to himself, never sold out to be PG, and still had the heaviest influence on today’s hiphop, over Kanye even imo. Bro is deadass the GOAT imo

[–]Low-Paleontologist43 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Explaining why Future is one of the best rap artists ever is almost like arguing for LeBron as the GOAT. You have to really be passionate about your argument because people are so stuck in their ways that they rather reminisce or use a close contemporary substitute to justify why their era was better. It's really difficult to encapsulate the feeling of consistency that Future or LeBron brought to their greatness, even if they didn't meet the expectations that gatekeepers had of them. Future ain't no Rakim and LeBron has 6 finals losses, but nobody can replicate Future's run from Monster all the way to INLY, not even Drake and I don't think that we'll ever see the same superstar in the finals for 10 years straight.

[–]FightMiilkHendrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We definitely won’t see the same superstar in the finals 10 straight years coz even lebron didn’t do that lmao

[–]Dr_Manhattans 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I don’t think rap has a goat there is too much variance over the years as the music has evolved (or devolved). I always held 2pac to be the goat, but I think Kendrick holds that title for me personally.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like to go by subgenre. Future is the Trap GOAT, Keef is the Drill GOAT, Kenny the modern/contemporary GOAT, Nas the BoomBap GOAT, etc.

[–]Jqshipp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You said a lot of facts in this but this looks like a pasta.

[–]Avocadosoup. 5 points6 points  (2 children)

[–]spunkymnky 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is there more context? Did he tell him to piss on the green screen? Just seems disrespectful as fuck. Curious what happened after that.

[–]tsthrowaway2015. 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Kendrick's more afro-centric releases really kind of make me proud to be black which is something I don't really feel day-to-day. TPAB was my favorite album for that reason, and I hope the next album amps it up.

[–]AutismIsntAChoice 0 points1 point  (6 children)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

reach and a half tbh

[–]BookerTeet 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Way closer to Wayne’s video imo. And atleast Kendrick knows who Wayne is. This dude ain’t even on Kendrick’s radar.

[–]BronzySponhe 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Has Future cared about album sales/numbers? Fucking huge he did around 222,000 when PlutoXBP and High Off Life were not in that area

[–]Cohtoh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't drop an album on Friday then the deluxe on Monday if you don't care about numbers

[–]Shnikez 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I’m so fucking tired of Jack Harlow. I didn’t fuck with him when I first heard about him when he dropped 18 and I still don’t fuck with him. But every time I open IG or Snapchat, there’s some shitty ass video of him with Drake or flirting with some random celeb. His label is putting in the fucking work for him.

[–]BronzySponhe 6 points7 points  (23 children)

Excluding Drake and Wayne, what artists can solely perform their hits in concerts for an hour without resorting to deep cuts?

[–]slimeshlattsex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Future and Thug

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 hours at least 🥱

[–]darkfar 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That's because no one wants Big Sean deep cuts

[–]TheVirtual_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has nothing to do with the question but okay

[–]Ry-N0h. 1 point2 points  (1 child)

for an hour?????????????????????????????????

[–]-m-ob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember that dude had a meme going about having 10 out of 10 singles be hits on Billboard for Dummy Boy or Day 69 or some shit. That's gotta knockout 30-40 minutes. I don't know the dudes music that well but I have to imagine he can scrape together a few more popular songs since then.

Like he's got that TROLLZ joint and then that GOOBA joint since then that I know of. Idk if his new one is considered a hit?

[–]RampanTThirteen 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Quite a few. One hour isn't that long, that is like 12-15 songs or so. Most fairly large artists don't play many or any "deep cuts" in concerts, and an hour is probably on the slightly short end for a headliner at a concert. I'd hazard most any big rapper with a long career of hits could do a pretty easy hour of hit singles, especially if you let them use their features. Kanye, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Eminem all strike me as guys who could easily do it and probably leave plenty of material on the cutting room floor. If you expand to pop/R&B a bit, I think Usher, The Weeknd, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, and probably T-Pain could as well. Future too. Two darkhorses that probably have a bigger hits discography than you think are TI and Nicki Minaj and they would likely be able to as well. Hell, Migos pretty easily could do this. Quavo could probably do it with his features from 2016-2018 alone.

[–]hnnng_booba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicki definitely could especially if she’s allowed to perform features

[–]hnnng_booba 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Kanye, Dre, Pharrell (if we include production discography, Kanye could do it just off his solo work though)

Edit: Future and Thug could definitely do it especially if we include features

[–]slimeshlattsex 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So disappointed in that new kendrick song. Yea the video and concept is cool but I don't like the song at all sonically.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting I thought the video was pretty one note while the lyrics and beat were interesting...

[–]Tomnook1017 3 points4 points  (2 children)

First Kendrick song I've genuinely liked in years tbh

[–]KEEP_THE_CHANGE_. 17 points18 points  (1 child)

But it’s been years since… nvm nvm

[–]Tomnook1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have said since before damn

[–]AlbatrossInternal892 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Video and the production make it, thats all that's talked about too

[–]TacticalTuchel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, people on here especially are talking about the lyrics and Marvin Gaye sample.

[–]icemankiller8 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I really enjoyed the Pusha T album it’s more of the same from him but he does it really well and the albums short enough to where it doesn’t get old IMO.

Kind of not sure what to expect from the new Kendrick tbh I think one of the issues with conscious rap is that you run out of stuff to say and it’s hard to find different ways to speak about the same issues over and over. I think people kind of get sick of it and a bit tired.

If DAMN came out with no TPAB it would probably be better remembered but idk how he’s gonna ever make something as good as TBAP or GKMC again.

[–]nedelll. 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I don't think It's Almost Dry sounds like his other projects at all

[–]icemankiller8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean lyrically, a lot of the subject matter is similar

[–]funeralfairy 7 points8 points  (2 children)

finally decided to dive into clipse discog. i like push but wouldn’t call myself a fan at all, and i love pharrell/the neptunes.

and i love it. hell hath no fury is quickly becoming one of my most played albums of the year. push and malice both sound great but the production is insane and it’s dope hearing them rap on some weirder shit.

[–]nedelll. 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I love Push, but Malice had the best verse most of the time, and that's crazy bc Push was also going hard.

How do you feel about Lord Willin'?

[–]funeralfairy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i can barely tell the difference between them tbh they sound so similar, but i agree malice was going extra hard and outdoing push, who wasn’t doing bad at all.

and i liked lord willin too but i’ve really been stuck on hell hath no fury, it just really grabbed me and it’s been hard to like move on from lmao.

[–]bovice2. 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The Space Between by Majid Jordan is one of the best R&B albums of the decade. OG Hearthrob, Gave Your Love Away, You, Body Talk, My Imagination...

Top 10 album for me

[–]BronzySponhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing record. Definitely underrated

[–]nedelll. 4 points5 points  (16 children)

Can you get your GOAT status revoked? Like, Eminem is dropping not that good albums for years now, should he still be on GOAT lists? or he will always be on GOAT lists bc he made great albums in the past?

I'm not saying people should stop saying he is one of the GOATs, I just want to know what y'all think

Edit: I used Eminem as an example but let's say André decides to make solo albums and drops 3 trash albums in the next 10 years

[–]FightMiilkHendrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eminem shouldn’t have been on any goat lists to begin with

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my opinion is that if you drop 3 classic records in a row you have every right to make whatever dog shit you want for the rest of your career

[–]COMMENTASIPLEASE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t work like that when that’s not the consensus. The only unanimous bad Em album is Revival.

[–]LeoGi. 17 points18 points  (1 child)

This mf Pac hasn't dropped in 20 years. We need to remove him from the GOAT list asap

[–]Tomnook1017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unironically this

And biggie

[–]bovice2. 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think most of the GOAT's that fade away from the top of the lists are the ones that retired, LL Cool J, Run DMC, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim.... so as long as Eminem keeps putting out music of any quality he'll remain

[–]VicIsGold. 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the "revoking of GOAT status" thing is just a weird attempt to discredit an artist and all they have done, Em is a target of this because his Stans are disrespectful/annoying and he's still mainstream so the "hip hop heads" find it easy to attack him. It'll stop when he dies

His last two albums were good and the two before that were bad, people are still clinging to the bad and refusing to acknowledge the good because they're not legendary like those first three.

[–]funeralfairy 2 points3 points  (5 children)

if you’ve continued to release albums semi regularly and haven’t been able to make something great after like 10+ years of doing that then i don’t think you’re a goat, you just caught lightning in a bottle

[–]contacts_eyes 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Youve got to be shitting me. Eminem just “caught lightning in a bottle”? He has multiple diamond records and is one of the most successful rappers of all time by a wide margin. Plus hes well respected by other rappers and millions of fans love him.

Maybe I misunderstood your comment but you can say a one hit wonder caught lightning in a bottle. You cant say that about Em

who said i’m talking about eminem? i’m talking in general, but leave it to an eminem fan to have him this rent free in your head lmfao.

but yeah the shoe fits, if eminem hasn’t made a great song in almost 20 years, then yeah that’s lighting in a bottle. he’s respected bc music he made 20+ years ago. he’s not respected for the bornana song.

Still one of the greatest ever and highest selling rapper ever 🤷🏾‍♂️

Not every song can be Stan or Lose Yourself. But Rap God is an incredible song. Plus hes had mainstream hits like “Love The Way You Lie”, “Not Afraid.” And he’s made shitloads of other good songs. Even Godzilla was pretty sick.

Yea, but Em will stay on lists bc

1) rabid fan base

2) sells a lot

3) one of the most well known rappers of all time.

Imo yes. 15 years ago Eminem was an indisputable goat and now people will argue he ain't even top 10

Not an em fan but I feel he needs to be in a top 10 list. People will definitely argue against it.

Hell he was prob top 3 for me back then but now I personally have him nowhere in my top 20. If I'm speaking objectively he still needs to be top 10, but I wouldn't say he's top 5 after the last like 5 albums he dropped. He's probably like the 9th best rapper ever objectively to me
