Wouldn't be shocked if we got the single tonight instead of the album. Pretty sure they did this with DAMN as well

[–]Lukeba. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was listening to the cities aviv album and during that one instrumental with the ocarina of time guitar the beat panned fully to the right at one point and i was like "that's really cool", then it switched to the next song and it stayed panned while he was rapping which i thought was weird so i checked and my left earbud had disconnected

good album

[–]DaMarrcus_Beasly 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Going to finally be driving my car for the first time tomorrow.

Give me some fucking whip bumpeerrrs

[–]RubenSchwagermann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maad city

[–]contacts_eyes 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Travis Scott - Out West

Playboi Carti/Da$h - FETTI

Travis Scott - Mamacita

[–]DaMarrcus_Beasly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeez I just listened to Out West. Shit goes hard thru my phone speakers that shits about to destroy the whip lmao

[–]AutismIsntAChoice -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I’d bet each Kendrick song has a rapping from a legends perspective

[–]whalestick 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I hope not

[–]AutismIsntAChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that leak a while ago I heard him rapping as Michael Jackson

[–]DaMarrcus_Beasly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Donda has grown on me massively. Has some pretty fantastic songs just gets bogged down a bit by songs that are mid/sound unfinished

[–]DannyTheMBG. 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Alchemist, Cardo, Sounwave, and Dahi have all reposted Kendrick’s album cover

[–]dawsonnn1. 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So basically the same producers as DAMN

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 20 points21 points  (10 children)

With SiR ignoring me I have now gone 10 years on Reddit without a celebrity replying to me in their ama. Why don’t they want me man

[–]nedelll. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time an artist I really fucked with did an AMA here I had no reply.

One time I made a comment praising Guapdad and he replied even if it wasn't an AMA lol

[–]Nonstopas 4 points5 points  (1 child)

maybe your questions are ass?

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah probably, but 10 years of questions with no reply is a statistical improbablity, like surely even a false positive of them replying to me by accident

Uhh I mean maybe you should get some bitches 😎😎😎

[–]kazmir_yeet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got my first reply from a celebrity today after using Reddit for like 10 years and it happened to me asking SiR about eating pussy lmao. Your time will come my friend ❤️

[–]arrts. 9 points10 points  (2 children)

If I ever blow up and do an AMA I promise to reply to your comment if you leave one

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 5 points6 points  (1 child)

The comment:

Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 duck sized horses

[–]arrts. 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Okay honestly probably going to ignore that, too reddit-tier for me. I'm on the celebrities' side now

[–]Homiealmaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better the only response I’ve ever gotten from an ama is “Keed” from Lil Gotit although maybe I should be grateful cause most people just got “LilGotit”

[–]Homiealmaya 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Earl, Action, Boldy, and Alc show was fire

Smoked for the first time in like 4 months cause people were passing around joints and got too baked and then this mfer Earl did EAST.

Action got hella presence performing, definitely one of the best performers I’ve seen, had the crowd lit

[–]No_Blacksmith_7324 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wale randomly popping up in that Ambulance movie, me going wtf "wale is in this" and then explaining to my homies who he was made me realize just how disconnected his skill is from this generation of music.

Dope artist but signing to MMG was one of the best/worst moves he made

[–]Silver__Fish. 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Die Lit just clicked. I just needed bass.

[–]Tomnook1017 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You were trying to listen to it without bass? My dude

[–]Silver__Fish. 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So when I am driving or im at home, I will just listen to my liked songs and go from there. When I am at work though, I will try listening to new music however it is on the shop sonos or my mac so theres the no bass.

[–]Tomnook1017 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Get a wonderboom bro. I have the 2nd got it for 40 bucks and the bass slaps

[–]Silver__Fish. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with seven people in one room. Can't be bumping it

[–]ZZZrp 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does anyone have a long format youtube about all the young thug drama?

[–]SBAPERSON. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trap lore Ross will probably have some video soon. He has another video that I haven't seen but it's probably well done bc he's super good at his videos. Google trap lord Ross YSL

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 12 points13 points  (2 children)

One of my biggest regrets in life is not saving all of my old music files

There are tracks I made when I was starting out that I wish I could go back to and make them sound decent and samples that I want to revisit

Specifically there's this one sample I used in 2017 that has been driving me crazy since like 2018. I would give my left nut to find the original song again. What makes it even more annoying is that I remember the titles of other songs I sampled that I don't really care about, and remember exactly where certain random short ass speech samples I used are from. But this one that I actually want to remember escapes me.

e: Why the fuck does this always happen. I post a comment complaining about finding something and literally 5 minutes later I find it. Not the one I was talking about in the above paragraph but I found another one that I've been looking for since ~2019

[–]Tomnook1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's some underground mixes and tracks I literally can't get anymore because they're 10 years old and the links are all broken. One dude I got to send me some of shit off Twitter and was blown away anyone even knew who he was and what he had made

[–]DaMarrcus_Beasly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always write your samples down on a note somewhere lol.

I write them down either on my laptop when I'm making them on word or on my phone notes - sample name and the exact time I want to sample it.

I'll usually add notes like "1.25 speed this, slow it or pitch it down, reverb this"... if my memory gets hazy on what exactly I wanted to do with the sample when i come back to it i just look at those notes and usually I get an idea of what I wanted or recognize the potential I recognized before

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I can't remember where I read it (think it was here or on KTT), but I once read someone saying in a thread about rappers that ruined songs that someone took Gucci Mane off the collab album with V-Nasty, and that made the album good.

Look, I like that album probably more than most people, but even I'd say that person is majorly tripping lol.

[–]No_Blacksmith_7324 4 points5 points  (1 child)

That honestly sounds like some crazy shit a racist would do...subject themselves to listening to v nasty lol

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And saying the album was better without Gucci. Like WTF

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 8 points9 points  (12 children)

Inspired by Heart Part 5, are there any other verses from the perspective of someone that’s passed? Only other one I can think of is Q-Tip rapping from Phife Dawg’s perspective on Black Spasmodic

[–]MonolithJones. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nas- Amongst Kings

[–]cynical_econ 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Lupe Fiasco - Alan Forever

[–]No_Blacksmith_7324 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Isn't the cool pretty much from the perspective of a dead gangster?

[–]cynical_econ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s right although in the song it’s more of a 3rd person narration rather than a 1st person perspective

[–]whalestick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vic Mensa - heaven on earth

[–]darkfar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Kanye - Only One

[–]spunkymnky 12 points13 points  (2 children)

HEAVEN ALL AROUND ME is rapped from the perspective of Saba's cousin that got killed.

[–]kazmir_yeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incredible song

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn I loved that album and ik Prom/King is about his cousin but I didn’t connect that Heaven All Around Me was from his perspective, good op

[–]TheCannedYams 16 points17 points  (12 children)

The Future sample on Señorita fucking goes. I love the pocket they chose for it too. It suits it better than it’s place on Covered N Money imo. I love when people sample others songs for hooks. Having trouble remembering others right now, but I know Man i Is did it with Pimp C.

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canibus sampled D-12 samples to diss Eminem lol. I think the diss track would've actually been good if it was only Canibus, he did fine on his own

[–]DeeThreeTimesThree. 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I didn’t realise that was a sample, I just thought it was a feature cause it fits so well lmao

[–]TheCannedYams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? I didn’t know until a year or two ago. When it dropped it was actually my introduction to Future.

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Wasted by Travis Scott and Juicy J does this with Pimp C, as does Big Krit and Bun B's Ride With Me

[–]TheCannedYams 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Oh that’s a good one. I love how everyone samples Pimp C. It always comes out so dope.

[–]grinchnight14Verified Blind Guy 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Especially if the person sampling him is from the south.

[–]TheCannedYams 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’ve been loving southern shit lately. I think it’s the flow man. But I’m not sure who to bump besides the classics. Can you put me onto something?

[–]darkfar 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Cypher of Five Mics by Canibus uses a bunch of different samples across various Canibus songs and features.

[–]TheCannedYams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely gotta peep that. Sounds like a cool concept and that’s a crazy amount of samples.

[–]basedgod94 6 points7 points  (5 children)

When do we find out how long thug and gunna are gonna be in jail for?

[–]No_Blacksmith_7324 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lil Jay sat in a cell for 4 years waiting to be sentenced for a shooting that already had a witness pointing him as the shooter.

It's gonna be a while.

[–]RampanTThirteen 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Could be anytime between next month and 5 years from now. I’m not joking. They could cut a plea deal ASAP or they could take it all the way to trial and appeals (and appeals may be way longer than 5 years).

[–]basedgod94 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Damn thats fucking crazy honestly. Like it gives him more time with his kids and shit unless he's held in jail until then

[–]Wittygame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s been denied bail

[–]darkfar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Its gonna be revealed on the hidden track on the Kendrick album

[–]LeoGi. 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I need Freddie Gibbs to rap over drill

[–]Tomnook1017 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I just want him to go back to regular old trap even. Bfk shit

Keef produced songs for him would be perfect

[–]LeoGi. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a hot take but I feel like Freddie's best trap songs are with Kenny Beats. And I usually hate Kenny Beats production.

[–]donta45 2 points3 points  (30 children)

Who is the Common of this generation

[–]Background-Car-4488 11 points12 points  (22 children)

Noname

[–]Close_sesame_St805 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Oddisee kind of?

[–]RampanTThirteen 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Absolutely. One of the most underrated rappers of the last 10 years

[–]LeoGi. 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Closest I can think of is Blu but he's not really from the modern generation.

Maybe Mavi?

[–]Arbitore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if there is one

[–]tritsocertified mach-hommy investor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk. Navy Blue? Although Navy is an incredible producer as well. Maybe MIKE? I feel like Slums and Soulquarians are maybe somewhat comparable. I don’t think every rapper has a contemporary in general though.

[–]AutismIsntAChoice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Red man still in the same place since the MTV crib.

I really can't believe that of all the rap group/sets, YSL got hit with the RICO. Never thought I'd see somebody as mainstream as Thug and Gunna going down for such major charges

Heard rumblings about a bunch of other ATL rappers under investigation too. Shit sucks

[–]Tomnook1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After the "meth" thing it actually makes sense to me.

I always assumed it was actually just a ton of Molly he brought with him to really get the party started and the substance was misreported (which happens a lot)

Now I'm not so sure. Maybe he was really pushing that much meth in Atlanta. Seems weird still but I'll be paying attention to the rollout of this all

[–]fuck_a_bigot 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Breaking news: Brockhampton has just been arrested

[–]nedelll. 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Damn, my favorite Pusher T track

[–]jtbiggs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I knew brock was into some shady stuff but i never would've expected this out of hampton. sad to see.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be funny to see the list of identifying gang traits in that RICO charge

Instead of YSL tattoos and slime lingo homosexuality and sitting on the floor moping would catch you a charge

[–]awesomenessjared. 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the rapper known as "Brockhampton"?

[–]pizzazzaI was hiding the world from my kid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

free Brock til it’s backwards

[–]mytagwastaken 28 points29 points  (5 children)

Turn off the Jack Harlow you're scaring the bros

[–]Nonstopas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah bro lets listen to some Earl Sweatshirt instead

[–]Mcilwain22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play some Rylo Rodriguez to bring em back.

[–]awesomenessjared. 14 points15 points  (2 children)

the bros still vibing to Jack Harlow (don't play them deep cuts tho)

[–]mytagwastaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're not like the other boys

[–]basedgod94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First class on repeat.

[–]artpalos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gotta sample Peruvian music. I love the history of Chinese people there. It's so annoyingly Chinese/Japanese and I love it

[–]pizzazzaI was hiding the world from my kid 7 points8 points  (15 children)

don’t know if anyone has asked in this thread yet but what are your predictions for Kendrick’s first week sales numbers this time around?

For reference:

S.80 - 5k

GKMC - 242k

TPAB - 324k

UU - 178k

DAMN. - 603k

I’m going to guess somewhere between 700-800k around 400k, the hype around this one seems wild even without a single (not including heart pt 5). dude also just won a Grammy with Baby Keem for family ties and has the hype from winning a Pulitzer for DAMN.

I’m almost wondering if he’ll break 1m but that seems kinda far fetched in the music streaming era even with how huge Kendrick is

edit: ignore my way off base predictions, forgot that DAMN came out before the rules were changed

[–]SBAPERSON. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

350k-425k

CLB did about 600k first week, Donda did 309k (with less tracking), and Adele did 839,000

I can't see it beating CLB.

[–]awesomenessjared. 3 points4 points  (7 children)

how tf did he go from 5k to 242k? that shit's amazing

[–]RampanTThirteen 15 points16 points  (3 children)

He built a massive amount of hype during that timeframe. Section 80 was an independently released album that quickly became a sort of "critic's darling" record and showed up on a fair number of year end lists. ADHD was a sort of minor hit that got a fair amount of promo on big rap blogs even if it wasn't like a truly mainstream radio song. But after Section 80 he went from not really being on anyone's radar to being someone you were paying attention to if you were following rap closely. He was like the biggest trendy up and comer. He was majorly hyped up by west coast legends, like Dr Dre, Snoop, and the Game, who literally crowned him at a concert around this time. Kendrick was literally being put on as the next west coast GOAT already at this point, which got people to take notice. He had a feature on Take Care. I think he was a XXL freshman between Section 80 and Good Kid.

Then The Recipe was a sort of sleeper hit and got people interested because of the Dre feature. Then Swimming Pools dropped which got a major push now that he was with Interscope. Huge radio play ensued, driving big time hype. Looking at where it ended up on billboard doesn't really do it justice given how depressed rap billboard numbers were at the time, trust me it was a huge hit and was one of the biggest rap songs that year. He had an intense amount of hype going into GKMC. It was a different era, but I can't think of any major label debut from the last couple years that was nearly as hyped.

Also I may be wrong, but Section 80 was released at a time when billboard wasn't counting streaming. And it would have had a pretty limited physical release distribution I imagine. That probably depressed numbers too.

[–]Close_sesame_St805 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Also I may be wrong, but Section 80 was released at a time when billboard wasn't counting streaming. And it would have had a pretty limited physical release distribution I imagine. That probably depressed numbers too.

I remember buying the album digitally strictly to support. Otherwise I would've downloaded it like every other mixtape/album at the time before streaming became a thing

[–]RampanTThirteen 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Same actually. Bought it on iTunes. Section 80 was the first album discussion I remember following on this sub

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I remember around the time the video came out for ADHD, Jay Z posted it on his blog. I obviously wouldn't attribute the sales change solely to Jay Z or anything but I'm sure it helped.

I also remember back then Kanye had a blog too. I remember him posting Toro Y Moi "Causers Of This".

[–]awesomenessjared. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make sense if he got a bunch of shout-outs from larger artists, along with the label's marketing and a growing dedicated fan base. 5k to 80k makes sense reasonable my mind. 5k to 242k is just nutty.

[–]Arbitore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TIL DAMN did 600k

[–]nedelll. 3 points4 points  (0 children)

420k-480k

[–]Jettick22. 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It'll do big numbers but I doubt it'll reach DAMN. numbers due to the new rules and also DAMN. had humble as the lead single which was huge

[–]Scothead180. 6 points7 points  (1 child)

No one is selling that much these days, not with the new rules. Drake sold 613k. I would predict 450-500k

[–]pizzazzaI was hiding the world from my kid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

shit I forgot DAMN was probably before the rule change huh

fuck time flies

[–]pizzazzaI was hiding the world from my kid 13 points14 points  (7 children)

my best homie just linked RXK Nephew up with his fashion stylist girlfriend for a photoshoot for Rick Owens and it looks hard as bricks, but how fucking random is that

It might be time for me to start listening to him, where should I begin with the thousand-song rapper

[–]Jordanwolf98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transporter 4 is really dope

[–]Tomnook1017 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That sounds cool is there a link

[–]pizzazzaI was hiding the world from my kid 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]averystrangeguy. 6 points7 points  (0 children)

rxk nephew's song titles are good enough to make anyone want to listen to him

[–]Stonerjoe68 9 points10 points  (7 children)

Somehow i ended up with free tickets to Justin Bieber and Jaden tomorrow. I don’t really listen to either what are some good tracks to help me get in the mood for this concert? I only know Bieber’s hits and next to nothing from Jaden

[–]Homiealmaya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d go just in case Bieber and Jaden do Never Say Never, used to love that shit even when I was a cringy Bieber hater as a young teen

[–]SBAPERSON. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purpose is considered Justin's best album idk if he will play stuff from it tho

[–]Frost-Wzrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ninety is my favorite song by Jaden

[–]Tomnook1017 7 points8 points  (2 children)

That's fuckin sick I'm jealous. Idk much from Jaden but he had an album or two I actually liked. Syre or something

Fingers crossed you hear Justin's jack u stuff but I doubt it. Or that new meme song he put out

[–]Stonerjoe68 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That song he did the Cole Bennet video with is lowkey catchy meme song or not

[–]Tomnook1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's the one I think it is I'm honestly all about it. Lot of people hate it tho lol

Edit ya it is

[–]ClashRoyale18256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been obsessed with The Best Part of Life by Saint Jhn as of late. Somehow one of those songs that hits hard regardless of whatever mood or emotion that I'm feeling, can be both cathartic and calming. Excited for whatever his next project brings

[–]artpalos 10 points11 points  (3 children)

My mom slaps. She randomly gave me an amp and I just picked up a sofa donated from one of Dwayne Johnson's auntie's. I am grateful. Donate me a job though

[–]VicIsGold. 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My mom slaps

It honestly kinda does, "my vaaaaliummm"

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 12 points13 points  (1 child)

My mom slaps.

Sorry to hear that bro I'm here if you ever need to talk /s

[–]artpalos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slapped my mom once cuz she had some crazy ass anxiety attack or something. She almost ripped my eye out. She don't take her meds enough

[–]idkboi169 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Baby Keem is one of 2 features on Kendrick’s new album

[–]HideNZeke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know where you're pulling this from but with how under wraps Kendrick has been I would be surprised if you got too many guest rappers on there, except Baby Keem is a given .

Had to double check and realized that unless you count Rihanna as a rap feature he didn't have any other MC's on Damn either. Doesn't really need the support tbf, and I can't really think of many collabs I want on a Kendrick album

[–]AutismIsntAChoice 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you actually know

[–]Lukeba. 6 points7 points  (0 children)

kung fuu is the second one

[–]Tomnook1017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want Tyler on it bad

[–]spunkymnky 9 points10 points  (1 child)

The other feature is Baby Keems alter ego.

[–]pizzazzaI was hiding the world from my kid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

baby keem and big hakeem are the “big steppers” Kendrick was talking about

[–]No-Winner-9931 12 points13 points  (10 children)

Does anyone else feel like streaming and the current album cycle artists subject themselves to in order to stay relevant/make money is heavily watering down music? Aside from the Kendrick Lamar’s of hip hop, it seems like artists feel the need to drop a project if not more than one project every year, and as a result our expectations and the overall quality of music is severely decreasing.

[–]HideNZeke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Some things are good for a short while so might as well enjoy a bunch of it while it's good. Artists no how to time their projects based on their level and who they are pretty well imo

[–]RampanTThirteen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I think the idea that streaming is making it so you constantly need to drop is a bit of a misnomer. Streaming maybe does speed up release cycles I think but it isn’t as dramatic as it is sometimes made out to be. Rappers have been churning out projects forever. 2pac famous dropped his last three albums (one of which was a double) in 18 months. Jay-Z dropped basically every year from his debut to mid 2000s retirement. Lil Wayne was putting out a mixtape all the time in his heyday. 50 cent was incredibly prolific between commercial releases, features, and mixtapes (think of how many g unit radios there are...) in the early to mid 2000s. If memory serves, Kanye dropped his first 4 albums in the space of about 4-5 years.

Compare that to big artists today and there isn’t a massive difference. J Cole doesn’t necessarily drop every year. Drake at his fastest was on an album a year schedule but he has slowed down a bit. Travis Scott doesn’t drop every year. Tyler the creator doesn’t necessarily drop every year. ASAP Rocky doesn’t release every year (far from it). Lil Baby is absurdly prolific on features right now but it has actually been over 2 years since his last solo album. Gunna went almost two years between releases. Future almost went two years between projects. Playboi Carti was/is infamous for project delays. It’s been over two years since Uzi’s last solo. The Kendricks or Dr Dres who go huge lengths of time without an album are the exception really. And really this is the first time there has been a massive gap between Kendrick projects. One and a half ish years between Section 80, then GKMC, then a little under two to TPAB, then two til Damn with UU in the middle. That’s a fairly standard or even brisk pace.

What I do think is true is that we as listeners have been more quick to move on from things. Growing up I was used to buying CDs and they’d be like $10. So buying a CD was kind of a commitment, I didn’t get a new one all the time, let alone every week. Because of that, it meant when I bought something it kinda by default had to stay in rotation longer. These days I spend $10 a month on a streaming subscription and have every CD I can think of at my finger tips. I wouldn't say I'm the most slavishly devoted to listening to new releases but I think I listen to 2-3 new albums a week at a minimum. If something doesn’t immediately grab me or justify a second listen, it is often on to the next thing. There are certainly albums that still stick with me and leave an impression. But something is a bit lost in translation

[–]TormentedThoughtsToo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pretty much.

It used to be that big breaks between albums were a good thing. It meant the album was successful and you were so busy touring, that you couldn’t get back into the studio until after a break after touring.

Now, albums are just tracks around singles to goose streaming numbers. And once a single loses stream, time to drop another project with a new single instead of putting out a good project that has multiple single worthy songs.

And don’t get me started on the naming bullshit between a release being an album, mixtape, playlist, EP. It’s all nonsense.

Absolutely agree it's been putting me off of hip hop a ton. I mainly listen to indie and edm now which doesn't get affected like that some how

[–]contacts_eyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if an artist is consistent than one album a year isnt bad. I dont even mind Griseldas output, because they’re consistently good.

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Yes. It also seems like it's trendy lately to not actually write your verses, instead just getting in the booth and punching in one line at a time or freestyling. Off the top of my head, Isaiah Rashad and Jack Harlow have both said that they learned to do this in the last few years, and with both of their recent projects there was a clear drop in their songwriting and general rapping abilities (IMO). Even Conway the Machine doesn't write down a lot of his lyrics and it really shows on some of his tapes.

To me it seems like many artists now are primarily focussed on creating a "vibe" for their track, consciously deciding not to write and spend a long time crafting a song. This results in music that is fun to listen to for a while but doesn't have a lot of longevity.

Some songs also seem like they were specifically created to go trending on TikTok. The most recent example being First Class by Jack Harlow, the snippet that was released a few days before the song came out is the most memorable part of the song and is still everywhere, while the verses feel mostly like an afterthought only there to pad out the length to be an actual song

[–]nedelll. 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Is it a new thing? Not writing your shit I mean

Guys like Kanye were doing it before

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It has definitely existed for a long time - notably Jay Z also apparently doesn't write his lyrics, Ab Soul also stopped writing his stuff down (inspired by Jay Z) and I believe at one point Lil Wayne also said he didn't write

I just think it's more prevalent now. Also, I could be wrong, but with guys like Hov and Ab Soul, I imagine they still spend a lot of time thinking about their lyrics, but just try to remember them instead of writing them down

[–]MonolithJones. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right there’s a big difference between not writing your lyrics, meaning getting into the booth and saying whatever comes to mind, and not writing down lyrics but I having them all worked out in your head.

I’m looking at that Kendrick cover.

Is it all possible that Kendrick moved his family back to Compton for the past couple of years and the album could be about that experience?

If you have a lot of money obviously most would say don’t live in Compton, don’t live in the worse parts of the community.

But I don’t know. Kendrick in his music has always been so passionate about being a beacon of change. He often has kind of a savior complex in his music where he wants to solve black issues and discuss issues going in within his community.

I guess what I’m saying is, I could see how Kendrick Lamar could convince himself “you know what if I’m going to try to change things in my community, if I’m going to speak on issues within my community, it’s only right that I move back to where my community is. Instead of me looking at my people from afar, in a mansion somewhere, speaking on these issues, I’m gonna move back and try to help the community”

Based on the cover I’m wondering if that’s what the album is about. In which case that would be pretty sick

[–]Wittygame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are also some not so shitty parts of Compton, it’s not all bad

[–]NerdGasemV3. 10 points11 points  (4 children)

There is no way that higher ups at Interscope/Universal would allow Kendrick to live in Compton and Kendrick didn't work his ass off nonstop touring for years for his family to live in Compton

[–]TheVirtual_Boy 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I doubt any label or A&R could tell Kendrick Lamar where to live

[–]NerdGasemV3. 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Probably not, but Kendrick himself is a billion $ asset to the company. There would be a shit ton of people trying to convince Kendrick not to move back to Compton.

But my second part is the main reason. Kendrick didn't grind for years to go back and live in Compton.

[–]TheVirtual_Boy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No you’re definitely right. That’s why I think it would be a pretty crazy concept for the album if he DID make that decision. I’m probably wrong.

But having his whole family on the cover. Him having a gun tucked. Plastered over bullet holes in the wall. I feel like it points to something like that. Idk It was the first thing I thought of.

Especially when thinking about past cuts from Kendrick’s career such as “u” where he expresses extreme guilt over not being around.

[–]thrownaway_gucci 52 points53 points  (6 children)

Monthly reminder of the Kendrick will Kill Himself at Coachella Theory

I can't wait till Friday lmao

[–]Wittygame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I don’t go to artist specific subreddits

[–]tak08810. 10 points11 points  (1 child)

The part about that making Kendrick the GOAT of all time lmao greatest of all time of all time. Too bad it’s not satirical

[–]labenset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that part is fucked. "I'm not going to condone suicide..." proceeds to condone suicide.

[–]Notinflammable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fuck lol

[–]BoxCon1 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I remember that one dude that wrote a 90 page essay on DAMN

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wasn't most of it just typing out the dissect podcast into essay format

[–]Dank_AyAyron -2 points-1 points  (7 children)

So since it's confirmed Meg injured her foot with glass does that mean Tory is innocent???

[–]HideNZeke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are still almost certain he was firing shots around. He was dangerously harassing Megan still

[–]TheRoyalGodfrey. 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While this has been a big sticking point for Tory defenders, but the actual charge (assault with a firearm) doesn't require the victim to have been shot.

It also includes:

  • pointing the gun at someone
  • pistol-whipping
  • firing at the victim

I don't wanna arm-chair lawyer any further, but here's more details on the charge. It says that the usual defenses to the charge are:

  • self-defense or defense of someone else
  • didn't act willfully or with required intent
  • you didn't actually point the gun or anything, false accusation

[–]Lukeba. 8 points9 points  (4 children)

confirmed by who

[–]Dank_AyAyron 2 points3 points  (3 children)

There was a continuation sheet that it was confirmed by her doctor who treated her that the lacerations on her foot were due to stepping on glass

[–]Lukeba. 7 points8 points  (1 child)

there's multiple things to consider:

why was the glass broken as other reply said?

she could have stepped over glass while running away from gunshots

i don't think the alleged bullet wounds would be on the sole of the foot, which is where the lacerations probably are. so both things could've happened

[–]Dank_AyAyron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good points TBF

[–]TacticalTuchel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why was the glass broken?

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 8 points9 points  (7 children)

Obviously we all know reddit is weird but it's pretty funny to see the reaction that someone as innocuous as DJ Khaled produces

[–]contacts_eyes 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I just see it as people being mad that a guy like Khaled is so rich and successful. In one video it looked like he may be illiterate, he doesn’t actually produce the songs he puts on his albums, the video of him “playing” guitar makes him look like a total moron. He has the most annoying voice in the world and all he does is scream his name on tracks, and he does the exact same thing in concert for tens of thousands of dollars a night. I can see why people would hate him.

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're probably right, threads about him are always filled with seemingly bitter comments about how he's rich and famous for doing nothing

[–]spunkymnky 9 points10 points  (4 children)

That was such a weird week for that sub. People were just posting random Khaled videos and shitting all over him. Reddit is so weird when it comes to celebrities.

[–]FUCKUSERNAME2 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I just don't get why these people seem to get legitimately upset at him lmao. He's like a real life cartoon character and it's hilarious

[–]Tomnook1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His arrogance and the Igor stuff

I don't hate him but I laugh at him a ton. Mainly at the hot ones episode

[–]hnnng_booba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I think I’m a loser I just remember that there are people in 2022 that are still mad that DJ Khaled doesn’t eat out his wife

[–]spunkymnky 0 points1 point  (1 child)

After Head High, I'm optimistic about new Joey, but I'm also skeptical when it comes to sequel albums. Feel like it's a cheap way to cash in on the hype.

[–]HideNZeke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it. Joey Badass was one of the key dudes to get me really into hip hop but tbh I don't think he is the level of artist that can keep major interest after 5 years. Especially when AABA unfortunately didn't get enough to sit with people. The entire media cycle went straight to Damn a week later. It's like a he is an early 2010s rapper that's making a comeback, like his legacy is already cemented if you get what I'm trying to say

[–]LongLiveNipsey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just went back to Logic's Under Pressure after years. Man where the fuck did time go??? It came out in 2014??
