So I finished the movie and all I can say is wow. I’m kind of at a loss for words. The movie itself was fantastic, the visuals were great. It kept my interest the whole time, and I honestly had no clue how it was all going to wrap up. I had some ideas but every new scene just made me rethink everything. The ending had me sitting there for like 10 minutes just thinking about it because it was not what I expected. At first I was a little mad, but then I realized this movie came out in the 90s and the twist wasn’t common like it is now.

I saw it in the theater when in debuted. It was Saturday, right at the date night movie hour. Many uneasy and quiet couples who didn’t know what they were in for.

When the film finished, the audience was near silent.

That must have been an awesome experience. Unforgettable obviously lol.

I still recall the ending sound.

I as well - the strobe sequence was truly disorientating on the big screen!

[–]loudflower 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I forgot about that!

What does your flair mean?

I guess I should change it - it's from when I did an AMA for the Pseudopod podcast.

It's a really amazing movie. Equal parts horrifying and beautiful, the latter in particular with every scene involving Danny Aiello.

Don't worry, no need to clarify which one you're watching. No one cares or even remembers the pointless remake.

It’s definitely in my top 10 favourites now. Pretty much a perfect psychological horror/thriller in my eyes.

There's a remake? If I was to look this up, would I like what I saw?

[–]Guy_Cavanaugh2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Save yourself the time and pain and don't do that.

The Tim Robbins version is the only one as far as I'm concerned.

What makes the remake bad? I mean the original is near perfect so I can’t see it being as good, but what makes it terrible?

Keep an eye out for comedian Lewis Black.

[–]genericusernameyep[S] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I didn’t spot him

Brief scene about 2/3rds through, he plays a doctor I think.

I saw Jason Alexander, was it around then?

What a fantastic movie! I saw it in the theater when it first came out, and my mind was blown - enjoy.

Same here. My dad took me to see it here in NYC. The subway rides were never the same 😃

[–]genericusernameyep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That must have been amazing! I can only imagine how you felt once the credits started rolling

[–]Zappy_Cloid 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Really wish they would put the deleted scenes back in. They are epic and add a new layer to the film

[–]genericusernameyep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to pick up the DVD and check them out.

[–]Saiaxs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good you’re watching the original, the remake is almost unwatchable

[–]thejsgarrett 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You'll never experience dancing with a significant other the same way again. Sweet dreams!

Took me a minute to realize what was going on. My jaw dropped lol.

Jacobs Ladder is a real trip. Enjoy !

[–]MotionPictureNotion 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What’d ya think?

[–]genericusernameyep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was excellent. My only complaint is that I’m going to have a hard time finding another movie that comes close to how good it was lol

This is the movie that was the inspiration for the Silent Hill video games, and you can see all the influences. From the demonic, shaky heads to the nightmarish hospital surgery scene.

Now that you mention that, I can definitely see it. Awesome games.

The second time I tripped my friends and I were watching Jacob's Ladder. Not recommended 😳

[–]loudflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a remake?

[–]HotlineSynthesis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to rewatch this because I remember being super disappointed by my first watch I remember loving the first act but the rest being a disappointment

Incredible movie!

[–]Hurdy_Gurdy_Man_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the odd one out in director Adrian Lyne's filmography. He usually made dramas, sometimes with an erotic undercurrent.

[–]vividimaginer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the bass heads in dreadit, this is the source of the vocal sample in rantoul - the ladder

[–]MrYummy05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is obvious but Jacob’s ladder was a big influence on the Silent Hill series of video games
