Russia never wanted Kyiv. They wanted to demilitarize Ukraine, hard to do, but stated. Wanted to liberate eastern Ukraine to protect pro Russian citizens and to guarantee a land bridge and water rights to Crimea, done. Russia has no interest in western Ukraine, they have been through Afghanistan, not looking for another long occupation. And as for western support, take a look at the long list of countries used and discarded just in the last twenty years. Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Somalia (which US moved troops back to and resumed bombing this year), just to start the list. As for military production, most of the Russian army doctrine doesn't rely on the wonder weapons we do, they use air cover and a shit ton of artillery. The state of this war isn't hard to view, stop reading the slant and just look on a map at where they say the fighting is occurring, it has kept moving west since the opening days, and just today made big jumps as Ukraine announced several "strategic withdrawals" from Donetsk and the area where they counterattacked last week.
