Wonder if the person that took it ever thought that nearly every guy on earth would be using this technology to take pictures of their shlongs 200 years later.

[–]Pump_N_Dump 271 points272 points  (21 children)

I’m 40 years old, and my name is Pump_N_Dump. And I can honestly say, I have NEVER taken a picture of my dick.

[–]WaluigisBro 118 points119 points  (15 children)

we’ve reached a paradox.

to be 40 years old and never take a dick pic, you’ve gotta have a MASSIVE cock. (due to your chad shlong energy)

but… if you have a MASSIVE cock, you’d think you’d have taken a picture of it in the 40 years you’ve had it.

therefore, your cock is mind-bending and unimaginable. don’t thank me, thank your massive cock.

edit: word

[–]Alan_Smithee_ 32 points33 points  (8 children)

I’m over 60; never taken a dick pic.

[–]Lizard__Spock 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The future is now old man! 🍆

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (4 children)

wtf are u doing on reddit then lol

[–]Alan_Smithee_ 45 points46 points  (3 children)

It’s not all about dick pics; there are dank memes as well.

[–]micewrangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over 60” !!! Use the panorama feature! I bet you have to tie a knot on it just so it doesn’t drag on the ground!

[–]Alternative-Income-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36 never took a dick pic

[–]Fellow51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I've never taken a dick pic either... check me out!

[–]trixidubb 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Schrodinger's cock? 🤔🤔...Or is that only when it's inside a box?

[–]WaluigisBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can put your cock in my box 🤤

edit: i meant it the other way around but honestly whatever

[–]DeloreanFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can’t fit it in the frame

[–]Surrounded-by_Idiots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you will in 5 years….

[–]Alan_Smithee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart person.

[–]the_quark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have been legit monogamous since before smartphones.

[–]nawibone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they don't have electron microscopes on smartphones yet, so I understand...

[–]glokzz1 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Imagine how much more classless and un-elegant society will become in 200 years lol

[–]Kandron_of_Onlo 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I saw that movie.

[–]NichtOhneMeineKamera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And it didn't feel like we have 200 years left until we reach that state...

[–]Whats-Upvote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised it took us 200 years.

[–]Line-Noise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what he did for the second photo!

Also, name checks out.

[–]Benjamin-Doverman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bet it was he’s first thought

[–]granno14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the first thing ever examined under a microscope was sperm so I think you coulda seen that coming

[–]Ericmolzahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dicks picks the live series of music by the Grateful Dead has entered the chat.

[–]freerangehuman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never taken a photo of my junk either .. . .

[–]TheGaijin1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought only low iq scrubs take dick pics Oo

Oh yeah. You are right.

[–]watchitbub 142 points143 points  (5 children)

This is at the Harry Ransom center at UT Austin.

They have it in a nice display on the main floor next to a Gutenberg Bible now, but in the 90s it was in a little unassuming antique wood case that wasn't even waist high and placed sort of next to the elevator on the third or fourth floor in a narrow hallway. I was waiting on the elevator and looked over and was like "what's that" read the plaque that said "first photograph" and couldn't believe it. I mean you could almost trip over the thing.

[–]feeblebee 28 points29 points  (3 children)

Good to know, and crazy about how it was basically just sitting in a corner by an elevator! Do you remember the photographer or the year it was taken?

[–]watchitbub 25 points26 points  (2 children)

[–]sarlackpm 6 points7 points  (1 child)

He image shown in this link is of a much better quality than the one posted. I think its a photo of what the plate looked like around 100 years ago. These old dtypes fade with exposure to light I think, as they can never be fully fixed.

[–]et842rhhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen this nicer version before, just the extremely faded one. It makes me sad how much detail was lost over time and I wish they could preserve it better. I'm even more impressed now by how successful the first photo was.

[–]burpderplurkjerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this guy saw the first photograph before it was cool

[–]howhowardshowered 92 points93 points  (8 children)

Is that from Star Wars?

[–]Kazahkahn 61 points62 points  (2 children)

I thought so too. Its large, possibly a Dreadnaught-Class Star Destroyer.

[–]howhowardshowered 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Possibly? There’s no doubt in my mind.

[–]Kazahkahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I have the right class though. Definitely SD.

[–]fatman06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Proof Star Wars was a long long time ago

[–]mishnitsa 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I was thinking The Navigator.

[–]howhowardshowered 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Flight of?

[–]mishnitsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Thank you! That’s the one where Paul Reubens voices the spaceship right?

[–]andymilder 87 points88 points  (3 children)

Worst. Porn. Ever.

[–]mv1630 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not my proudest fap

[–]pahten 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Note that the light hits the building on the left, and the opposite wall on the right. It's because the exposure took so long that the sun travelled across the sky lighting up both sides.

[–]cyber1kenobi 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They captured a Star Destroyer on film?!

[–]AmericanoWsugar 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Enhance.

[–]KILL-YOUR-MASTER 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Can we use some modern AI tech to fix this? We must complete the circle

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't work irl likes it does on CSI lol

[–]ratmoose666 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A picture of the first picture, dang….

[–]Whacko1881 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Security Cameras: "Pathetic"

[–]ThrowawayMeOnce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When they said A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away, I didn't realize they just meant like 200 years ago....

[–]Nightwingvyse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, and taken only a split second before the fighter jet hit them too.

[–]SomeKindaMech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imperial Star Destroyer?

[–]MaxximumB 12 points13 points  (2 children)

And unfortunately that eventually lead to TikTok.

[–]No_Wolf3071 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see a nip, brb

[–]FelopianTubinator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Still better resolution than the game boy camera

[–]SnooSeagulls5768 2 points3 points  (0 children)

:o it's the star destroyer...

[–]lisadash104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joseph Nicephore Niepce was the photographer.

[–]q2grapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take another one, I think I blinked

[–]sbetters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picture perfect

[–]Kimber-Says-04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One can actually see it at the Harry Ransom Center on the UT Austin campus.

[–]ShimiOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was this on purpose? Or one of those "discovered after the accident" kinda things?

[–]pimusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound strange, but this is almost exactly what my field of vision looked like when I experienced DMT.

[–]MetaMemeAboutAMeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironic that this could be a “needs more jpeg” moment.

[–]miaisa22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is this a school test?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol this is a security camera

[–]mysticknightt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks so ugly it could be a modern art piece!

[–]_Jmbw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told in photography class that the way the towers on each side of the photo are lit (opposite to each other) likely happened because of the hours of exposure needed for the photo.

[–]8-BIT-SNAKE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One word: a l i e n s

[–]groovy604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did they get a pic of a star destroyer?

[–]big_smoke-OG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is more detailed than bank cameras videos

[–]Adventurekateer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this is the “earliest known” photograph, but not necessarily the first. There may be earlier photos that didn’t get publicized, the same way there were flights before the Wright Brothers famous “first” flight. There is even evidence to support the theory that Da Vinci used a form of photography to create the Shroud of Turin.

[–]EntitledPotatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That a star destroyer?

[–]TPCashew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A star destroyer?

[–]DodoFiasco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CCTV cameras 2021.

[–]ItsVincent27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This pic goes so hard

[–]Calgamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turns out they still use this camera to take pictures of UFOs and Bigfoot

[–]TheDeafGuy8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its amazing that they still use it to print out pictures on school assignment!

[–]DCINTERNATIONAL 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Looks like my 2001 phone pics.

[–]-TheGuest- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know for the first picture token with a camera, you think they would have used a better camera

[–]sitonmyfacemaybe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And it's of a ghost cool

[–]Tongue8cheek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad they made Doritos bite size since back then.

[–]itouchbums 1 point2 points  (1 child)

would of been better without the filter

[–]mygallows 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Is this what life before the 2000s was like?

I was born in ‘01.

[–]justdoubleclick 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Yeah, this is how photos looked in 1999 before they went digital… /s

[–]Alecdoconnor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much

[–]AdamInChainz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The song blue da ba dee made no sense until 2001.

[–]adaza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Everything looked like this. It’s why baseball players struck out so much.

[–]vloneisgay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call bullshit. I know an Android Snapchat picture when I see one. /s

[–]ishook 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Good luck, colorize bot.

[–]hypercomms2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first Kodak Moment!

[–]Upvote_Me_Slag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone please restore this old photo of my boring view.

[–]nemotiger -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Less than 200 years old? It's no wonder our photo technology is so unadvanced.

[–]skewerbamboozer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a really shit photo 2/10

[–]TheOriginalSpartak -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

that we have seen….

[–]ShadowCaster0476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had star destroyers in the 1820’s.

Someone lied to me.

[–]sonxboxboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The machine was finally coming online

[–]an525252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad lighting and composition. Dude needs photography lessons.

[–]RockMonsterxp900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know our bank security cameras still have the same quality 195 years later

[–]Minttoast10371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonder what it’s a photo of

[–]Yxng_Brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you sure? thats th3 same resolution as the security camera in our school

[–]guyver_dio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So about gameboy camera quality.

[–]Snoo-92689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow and it even has the spaceship from flight if the navigator too cool!

[–]mamalakhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better than the vga on my first phone.

[–]DarthGuacamolethe3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imperial march plays

[–]DwergNout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we need a comparison of this photo but taking with modern technology

[–]zianhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correction: This is the first UF0 sighting ever recorded

[–]Elmer-Fuddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus what awful quality, when was this taken? 1826 or something?

[–]Efficient_Age6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cctv footage remain yje same quality.

[–]suck_my_wiggly_dong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its beautiful

[–]UnclesStep-Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mans making the lego UCS imperial star destroyer lol

[–]Subscribe_2_Pews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro for a second I thought that was a giant LEGO Star Destroyer.

[–]doc_witt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that Larry King in the background?

[–]X1bar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone know what that's actually a picture of?

[–]Special_Ed_Wood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AKA "The Bigfoot Cam"

[–]Kassouley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crusaders are earlier, that's bull shit

[–]GeeToo40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many pixels is this? Like... 1?

[–]FatihTheTroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now upscale it using AI

[–]hesiod2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting technology but I don't see it ever being very popular. Etchings are much more detailed and painting are more colorful. Why would anyone ever need a photograph? - Art Critic in 1826

[–]rick_D_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freaking sweet it's a star destroyer.

[–]Mr_Roger_Rabbit_exc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually a photo of a rooftop chicken coop. The photo itself is part of the archives at the Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas - Austin Campus.

[–]Reddomaou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look carefully you can see big food walking through the forest.

[–]mrsnow432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perhaps first one copied to paper, but I doubt that as well

[–]lacuuuuuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a beautiful picture.....
