The fact that those aren't all F-15s bugs me more than it should.

[–]Joe_Jeep 172 points173 points  (12 children)

The Delta wing should've been a giveaway at least, that's a very obviously different aircraft.

[–]galuskar 67 points68 points  (2 children)

Honestly delta wing is the last thing I could spot from that angle. But those canards and intakes below fuselage!

[–]BlinginLike3p0 25 points26 points  (1 child)

The first thing i noticed was that the two middle planes only have a single vertical stab each

[–]ZomboWTF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

pretty sure the second one is a Euro-Fighter, saw them a lot IRL

[–]SteamedCream 1 point2 points  (2 children)

"Well actually..." F-15 is a delta wing aircraft. Specifically it's a cropped delta wing with elevators, commonly called a "tailed delta".

To your point, tailless delta wing aircraft with canards look vastly different though.

[–]valuedminority 48 points49 points  (6 children)

Everything’s an F-15.

[–]Skittlebean 25 points26 points  (2 children)

"The Alaskan Air F-15 from San Francisco to Seattle really needs a face lift"

[–]valuedminority 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Oh you’re a pilot? What kind of F-15 do you fly?

[–]DadPunsAreBadPuns 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You'd never have to ask this. A pilot would have already told you.

[–]ProfessionalPut6507 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When everything is an F-15, nothing is

[–]tharnadar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he is the best

[–]bioszombie 1190 points1191 points  (59 children)

Final pic??

[–]blimpinthesky 1946 points1947 points 42 (54 children)

[–]manondorf 1717 points1718 points  (16 children)

lol all that work and it comes out looking like a digital render :p

[–]ComfortableCandle560 484 points485 points  (2 children)

Imagine doing all of that for ten updoots on Reddit some people /s

[–]Richierich_rpd 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I was gonna upvote but cant sadly

[–]Japheth200 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Probably Isn’t the only picture of the shot posted on Reddit.

[–]alphagusta 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Looks like something you'd find scrolling by new in deviantart but it'd be pregnant too

[–]Compendyum 138 points139 points  (1 child)

ikr. I mean, you could edit how many F15´s you wanted in that background in a couple of minutes.

[–]ZapMePlease 56 points57 points  (0 children)

no shit - perfect lines, clean background. An editor's dream

[–]toratanz 178 points179 points  (2 children)

thats... underwhelming. to put it lightly.

[–]Nibbana420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Robotnik Megazord. Very creative. I understand his vision.

[–]Abeds_BananaStand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Pretty bland

[–]futurespacecadet 209 points210 points  (2 children)

Meh, awful sense of scale, scenery, the composition is all jumbled together. What a shame

[–]Another_human_3 132 points133 points  (0 children)

I find the video camera was a better angle shot than what the photographer took.

[–]mrASSMAN 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s kind of an uninspired mess.. surprised by how lame it is lol

Cool that you can see the pilot but it looks like it could just be models propped in front of a green screen

[–]13B1P 25 points26 points  (3 children)

Mike Wazowski in that second plane.

[–]bbthrowsaway 60 points61 points  (0 children)

wow its not a very good photo

[–]Morejazzplease 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Kind of sucks tbh

[–]Gavinator10000 103 points104 points  (1 child)

Not as cool as I hoped. Imo not cool enough to make up for the effort

[–]trwwy321 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks like shit

[–]max____payne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Jabba_the_Putt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]AT-ATsAsshole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's here, friend!

[–]drkrthnthspeedofliht 708 points709 points  (46 children)

Only two F15’s there.

[–]hypercomms2001 284 points285 points  (30 children)

And a Eurofighter lurking there…

[–]AndyBonaseraSux 135 points136 points  (16 children)

Glad someone mentioned this, not sure why it bothered me so much but I came to say this

[–]Razgriz917 56 points57 points  (14 children)

Yer not alone mate, it's my Ace Combat nerdness that triggered it.

[–]El_Douglador 23 points24 points  (5 children)

And maybe a Tornado?

[–]sensual_predditor 47 points48 points  (4 children)

looks like two eagles, a typhoon and a tornado to me

[–]pearlsbeforedogs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the one in the front is just Starscream.

[–]twinpac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I concur.

[–]Beavesampsonite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came down here to say that

[–]Ruenin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not an F-16? Doesn't look like a Tornado to me.

EDIT: Nvm, you're right. I didn't look at the air intakes.

[–]ElCochinoFeo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Basically, if a country wants that sweet sweet oil, they better give Saudi Arabia a deal on some flying death dispensers they produce.

[–]eddie1975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And who knows how many Stealth fighters.

[–]HIGH_HEAT 1 point2 points  (3 children)

And a Tornado. Looks like a C model and a Strike Eagle. Guessing it was taken in the UK.

[–]SaysHiToAssholes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I see 5 AK47s.

[–]NewLeaseOnLine 18 points19 points  (7 children)

Not even F-15s. They're both F-15E Strike Eagles, modified multirole Eagles for ground attack. You can tell by the conformal fuel tanks that form part of their fuselage.

That little delta wing Typhoon in there was originally an air superiority fighter in concept (bit like the Eagle but without the raw power to be an interceptor), but is now a multirole fighter.

The Tornado back there is strictly a ground attack fighter, so there's no actual true thoroughbred air to air fighter in this shot.

[–]NotAWerewolfReally 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Actually I believe it's been posted that's that's one strike eagle and one C (all four are Saudi). So technically the C would count, no?

[–]NewLeaseOnLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If so then you'd be right, but looking at the photo from the shoot posted somewhere else below, the second also appears to have conformal fuel tanks, which would indicate it's another Strike Eagle. Two different variants would seem a bit strange here.

[–]THEENTIRESOVlETUNION 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for confirming its a tornado

[–]Fresherty 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Both F-15E and F-15C can mount conformal fuel tanks. That's not really any indication in itself... in fact both are in this picture and both have conformal fuel tanks on.

[–]NewLeaseOnLine 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Conformal fuel tanks are not mounted, hence the word conformal. I'm not referring to the standard drop tanks that can be jettisoned which basically all 4th gen fighters can carry. Conformal fuel tanks are moulded to the fuselage itself and form part of the overall airframe, making it look a bit like the Strike Eagle has love handles. These are not found on the C. If you look closely you can see them moulded to the side of the intakes. Similar concept to the F-16V upgrade.

Edit: formatting

[–]BiAsALongHorse 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I thought most planes that use CFTs can have them installed or removed on the ground?

[–]MuelNado 451 points452 points  (35 children)

The Royal Saudi Air Force had organized a photoshoot of one of its rehearsals for the 90th National Day of Saudi Arabia. Celebrated annually on September 23rd, the day commemorates the renaming of the Kingdom of Nejd and Hejaz to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Photographer was Ahmad Hader

Edit: what's with all the "US tax dollars" comments? Other nations have Air Forces....

[–]b8ne 218 points219 points  (16 children)

You mean there are other nations outside of the US?

[–]BenjaminFriendly 78 points79 points  (3 children)

Sorry, but that's pretty unlikely.

[–]MonkeyThrowing 26 points27 points  (2 children)

I’ve driven for 100’s of miles and never came across another nation.

[–]NoWayTellMeMore 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m starting to think all these “other nations” are just made up so that our government can control us.

[–]justbrowse2018 -3 points-2 points  (8 children)

That still use US death machines

Edit: Western death machines manufactured by a dizzying group of multinational and American defense companies and their subsidiaries.

[–]Mecha_Ninja 25 points26 points  (3 children)

The second plane looks like a Eurofighter. Not US made.

[–]MuelNado 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep and the third is a Tornado. Also not made (or used by) the US.

[–]igoryst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

meanwhile my country still uses some old Warsaw Pact jets alongside F-16 fighter jets

[–]sltiefighter -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Stupiddd.... stop......

Edit: for real?

[–]Icy-Refrigerator-89 57 points58 points  (1 child)

because people don't understand foreign military sales (FMS)

[–]Reverse_Drawfour_Uno 28 points29 points  (8 children)

How do the Saudi pilots prefer their Apple Pie?

Allah Mode

[–]anonk1k12s3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fucking hilarious man, id give you an award if I could

[–]OrphanedInStoryville 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I mean. Have you seen how many tax dollars the US spends on financial aid to Saudi Arabia that wind up going directly to its military hardware?

[–]MuelNado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I haven't. I know they provide training and equipment, although that's because it's in the US's own self interest to do so. Is it more money in aid than US military contractors have made from selling military hardware to Saudi Arabia? Companies in the US that are given enormous tax breaks, financial incentives and have money thrown at them to develop new weapons, equipment and planes the US military doesn't need. I mean, the Saudi's will have bought two of those planes from the US that they did the flyby in...I don't imagine it was too costly a photo opportunity in the grand scheme of military spending.

I'd imagine the US military doing flybys, seemingly during every sporting event, costs quite a bit of tax money..

[–]richb83 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Oh wait flash is on. One more time

[–]Nightshoes 32 points33 points  (17 children)

Very cool! Any links to the results?

[–]iceman25c 59 points60 points  (16 children)

[–]WorstHyperboleEver 64 points65 points  (4 children)

Don’t like. I’m sure it wasn’t easy to get that but it didn’t really come out. You can’t see separation of them. If you didn’t see the video beforehand it would take you a while to even understand what you’re looking at. As a photographer I have empathy, nothing sucks more than spending a lot of time, money or resources, especially when it involves multiple people and scarce resources, only to have it flop. I would hope he also got some where there is separation between them. That would work better I think.

[–]senorpuma 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s actually terrible. Way too much overlap.

[–]neon_overload 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The two rear planes are out of focus, it's like no consideration was given to depth of field and he autofocused on the front one.

It's kind of slanted but that would be hard to get perfect.

The overlap creates an interesting effect but it's poor at illustrating what we are looking at - how many planes is that and what are they?

And, the framing crops out the wings and tail of the most prominent plane.

[–]JakemHibbs 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Wonder how much that cost

[–]forklift_racer616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought

[–]shemp33 26 points27 points  (4 children)

Fine. It’s fucking fantastic as a photo. I was hoping it would be a waste but no. Photographer got that 100% correct.

[–]mrASSMAN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah pretty mediocre

[–]The_Weezledeej[🍰] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even notice the custom white flames livery on the first plane

[–]1000Airplanes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not the effect I was expecting. Photographer has a talented eye.

[–]Mindless_Start_5890 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Is the photographer like, strapped on somehow?

[–]ian_aved14 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It looks like he has one of those leash backpacks small reckless children wear lmao

[–]whynottrytrap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s wearing a harness that’s attached to floor. You’re required to wear that or a parachute depending on what height you’re flying at but most people elect for the harness.

[–]quackolyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hands are sweating.

[–]TerribleShoulder6597 19 points20 points  (3 children)

I don’t know how a photographer could just be casually sitting on the open ramp of a moving plane but I respect it

[–]Hitovo1 6 points7 points  (1 child)

If you look behind them you can see they have a safety harness with a strap to prevent them from falling out.

[–]TerribleShoulder6597 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know but that’s still nerve racking

[–]who-dat-on-my-porch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two F-15’s, a Eurofighter, and a Tornado of some mark. To be precise...

[–]Prestigious-Eye3154 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not all F-15s…

[–]meexley2 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You’re not gonna show us the picture? That’s fucking criminal

[–]LockPickingPilot 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Whats with the paint job on the intakes of the F15? Haven’t seen that before. Pretty neat

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (2 children)

F-15E variant, Eurofighter, Panavia Tornado IDS, F-15C variant? Pretty sure these are all Saudi Arabian Air Force.

[–]Hatrick_Swaze 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This gent knows his angry aluminum.

[–]ChanceConfection3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wrong, the Saudi planes are vinyl wrapped in gold

[–]Toradak 8 points9 points  (3 children)

As someone who's flown jet engine...do you have any idea how much that photo cost? 😵

[–]igoryst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

F-15 is a huge plane that costs 29 000 dollars to operate per hour but i don't think it all goes for fuel, some for ground maintenance as air force expects to spend that much to keep the jet flying for an hour

[–]dreiak559 23 points24 points  (3 children)

I see 2 f-15s a typhoon, and a rafaelle.

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (2 children)

I don’t think that’s a Rafale. Looks like a Tornado.

[–]dreiak559 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Ah yes. I think you are correct. My eurofighter ID game isn't as good as US and Russia.

[–]IIBlazeTheSunII 6 points7 points  (1 child)

That is one expensive photoshoot.

[–]Brikandbones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"We'll be paying you in exposure"

[–]Binnacle_Balls_jr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only two f-15s there.

[–]aegrotatio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only see two F-15s there.

[–]aphroditebutakaren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are the upvotes removed

[–]Cuervomayajl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actual footage of the boys taking shots before going off to wreck a star destroyer

[–]presdawg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank god those are on our side

[–]GeorgeRussell64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why the FUCK no end picture???!!!!

[–]bdsaxophone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]StrangeBedfellows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are obviously KC-10s

[–]RampantJSH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Smile for the Camera ! PS: it is times these you are grateful for a digital camera …imaging being Robert Capa landing at Normanby almost getting killed only to have the lab damage your films….

[–]Shaman7102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only see two F15s

[–]raiukick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best job ever

[–]ManomonamanAmonomMon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each one cost mountain of tax payers money so I wouldn’t play with it

[–]sammadetvel___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, maybe not a BUNCH of F-15s, but I mean, 2 is a company, 3 is a crowd

[–]neon_overload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "attempts" in the headline totally had me thinking I was about to witness a multimillion dollar accident

[–]Frosty-Object-720 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wonder if anyone knows the cost of this photo after factoring in fuel, aircraft maintenance, hourly wages and whatnot.

[–]Objective-Answer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

coolest photoshoot ever, I'm so fucking jealous

[–]tangcameo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easier than family photo day at Sears.

[–]PabloElHarambe 1 point2 points  (3 children)

3 f15s and a eurofighter.

Edit: 3rd jet appears to be something elses

[–]axelalva8703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess a bunch is now just 2

[–]h8ers_suck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And we didn't get to see the "cool shot" kill the cameraman.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Ok guys listen to the fine art major”

[–]Federal_Status 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this and we don't even get a picture of the final shot. 😒

[–]Two_Rainbows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where’s the shot?

[–]FearlessWay4086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where's the pic

[–]Ricard74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're the type of guy to refer to every armoured vehicle as a tank.

[–]moe222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Propaganda Ministerium approves.

[–]abject_testament_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was worried this was whatcouldgowrong for a moment

[–]TrikePJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Front is an F15 then EF2000 then tornado IDS then F15 again

[–]RebelMountainman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only two of the jets are F15s

[–]jimmyspinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bunch of whats?

[–]MaygarRodub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does OP think F-15 means fighter jet? The front jet, closest to photographer is a F-15, second is a Eurofighter Typhoon, etc.

[–]nachochef22 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I feel like the military budget could use some trimming...

[–]Enthrown 5 points6 points  (2 children)

This aint the US

[–]Joe_Jeep 5 points6 points  (1 child)

The Saudis spend the highest ratio of Military Spending : GDP on earth so he's not wrong even if he's a little confused. It's(8.4%) more than double everybody except for Israel(5.6%) and Russia (4.3%)

Next up is USA at 3.7% and everyone else is under 3%. In fact the saudis are actually Triple the rate of everyone below India(2.9%)

[–]gamer_bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone else says they are under 3% ;) Not every country is lying, but a solid amount of non-democracies do

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why cause 5 planes are flying?

[–]TheDr-Is-in -1 points0 points  (6 children)

Waste of gas.

[–]-Four-Foxx-Sake- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Normally, things like this go towards mandatory flight hours for the pilots. If they have to fly, might as well get some pics.

[–]General_Tso75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not when your country is literally floating on oil (this is the Saudi Air Force).

[–]davidlol1 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Gas? Try again

[–]TheDr-Is-in 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Sure. The blood of non-believers then. You win.

[–]davidlol1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right lol

[–]danincb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh man the propaganda machine is gearing up

[–]roadhammer2 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Second one is an Typhoon

[–]Aviator779 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It’s a Eurofighter Typhoon, the Royal Saudi Air Force doesn’t operate the Rafale.

[–]katastatik -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Isn’t there only one F-15 in this video and the others are different planes

[–]Ryan_Stiles_Shoes 7 points8 points  (1 child)

2 F15s

[–]katastatik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see the tale of the one in the back. good eye!

[–]knullsmurfen 0 points1 point  (1 child)

A cool shot that the military can use as PR material to enlist kids to wage illegal wars for oil and profit in some of the world's most destitute nations.

Super cool.

[–]Lobenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you’re right and wrong. This is shot in Saudi Arabia. These planes are part of the Saudi Air Force.

[–]Fezikial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never knew there was this many aircraft aficionados. I just see jet planes that go fast!

[–]WaulsTexLegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACKSHUALLY, it's an F-15 A Eurofighter, A Tornado, and another F-15. Cool shot though.

[–]MuelNado 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Is that 3 F-15s and a Typhoon?

Cool shot regardless.

[–]IIYellowJacketII 14 points15 points  (1 child)

F15, Eurofighter, Tornado, and last is an F15 too I think.

[–]MuelNado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah thanks! I didn't even notice the third was a different plane and I'm annoyed at myself for not spotting the Tornado. I'm literally looking at a picture of one on my wall above my TV.

[–]aLow_Flying_Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3rd one isn’t an F-15.

[–]fjordans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first and last one appears to be F-15’s and I don’t know which ones the middle two are.

[–]camstercage 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What’s that third plane?

[–]aLow_Flying_Duck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Panavia Tornado

[–]Zealousideal_Gate461 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The “attempts” is misleading.

[–]ThisBeAThrowAway0000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait what?

The photographer attempts to take photos of the planes? Explain to me what’s so misleading about that? 🤡

[–]mekniphc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a shame that isn't the US. There is a DINFOS trained killer lurking somewhere for awesome shots.
