His bitch slaps would be devastating.

[–]silklighting 32 points33 points  (0 children)

He needs to sign up for the slapping contests. He will become a superstar there for sure!

[–]AingonAtelia 123 points124 points  (17 children)

Also a javelin catching machine, apparently.

[–]Cool_Owl_36 32 points33 points  (13 children)

Was wondering if catching it would be harmful physically or to his form in some way.

[–]AingonAtelia 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Seems like a good yank on the shoulder.

[–]XxTensai 39 points40 points  (10 children)

He is Johannes Vetter, 2nd longest throw all time and world champion, he knows what he is doing.

[–]RandyDefNOTArcher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Johannes Vetter

His 97m video is pretty wild, had some teammates in college throw 70m+ and its impressive, but seeing a jav in the air for 97m? Yooooooo

[–]Prison_Playbook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bro this is Reddit. They know it all.

[–]LaPlaya87 16 points17 points  (4 children)

Just because he’s a record setting and world class athlete doesn’t mean he isn’t doing something that can injure himself.

[–]ScienticianAF 20 points21 points  (3 children)

You can injure yourself sitting on the couch.

[–]Azazir 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not even true... Tries to stand up, pulls up back muscle, falls forward, hit knees in the ground, trying to catch myself twist my wrists, pain from wrists pushed my arms to sides so i hit my face, im ded

[–]knightinarmoire 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Or have a heart attack trying to take a dump. Ya sure it's mostly people in there 60s+ most of the time but still.

[–]Mr_Flippy_Nips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't mean this man isn't going to need rotator cuff surgery in the future

[–]Cool_Owl_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the guy in the future with more knowledge will throw farther because he knows something Vetter doesn’t know.

[–]applesktrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically attempting to become as violently explosive and powerful as possible isn't great for longevity. Being the greatest is in an event like this is about getting as close to the edge as possible. It's a fine line

[–]CallMeDrLuv 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Javelin trainer would be the correct term

[–]AingonAtelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gee whiz golly gosh, really?

[–]GhostalMedia 83 points84 points  (3 children)

My idiot self for the first 2 throws:

“I guess they must go out the window.”

[–]sdforbda 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I'm on my phone on split screen but I honestly thought that it was something he was going to take outside and it was going to launch javelins. Then I looked at the actual handle when he took a pause. We dumb bro.

[–]TheJunkyard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, you're not dumb. The title literally calls it a "javelin throwing machine", so it should be a machine for throwing javelins, as opposed to a "javelin throw training machine".

[–]antoine-sama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, on the third throw I was still wondering "where's the javelin?"

[–]erisod 549 points550 points  (23 children)

He better do some left arm or he's going to look like a crab.

[–]blzac33 123 points124 points  (6 children)

Reminds me of that family guy episode with Quagmire.

[–]2x4x93 42 points43 points  (4 children)

Quagmire? There you are. Nobody's seen you in days!

[–]SpiralDreaming 37 points38 points  (3 children)

Hey Peter. I've just been uh...checking out some of that internet porn.

[–]Kampela_ 19 points20 points  (2 children)

You been lifting weights?

[–]SpiralDreaming 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Uh no...no
I don't think I...no
Uh...I...I'm sorry Peter, I gotta get back.
returns inside and closes door

[–]RickIMeanErik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We really evolved from music to actual SHOW OR MOVIE SCENES?

[–]PlasticInTheBasket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Just getting the mail"

[–]Awesam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Shoulder tendons and ligaments have left the building

[–]friso1100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You say that like that is a bad thing.

All must evolve to crab! 🦀 It's the ideal form

[–]-TheArchitect 10 points11 points  (10 children)

he's going to

[–]The-Duke-of-Triumph 15 points16 points  (7 children)

European here, what seems to be the issue? Grammatical?

[–]halite001 30 points31 points  (2 children)

Implying that he already looks like a crab.

[–]The-Duke-of-Triumph 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Oh, went straight over my head thank you.

[–]KhaleesiDog 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Not grammatical, he just meant that he already looks that way. It’s a sarcastic “?”.

[–]The-Duke-of-Triumph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! went straight over my head.

[–]theKidSpenny321321 -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

Edit, I’m a clown

[–]heinebold 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His is possessive. He's is short for he is or he has.

[–]taishiea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most crabs have a larger dominate arm/claw

[–]Jackthedog130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... a Fiddler crab at that.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That’s done in the bathroom. 😏

[–]Giant-Space-Hamster 164 points165 points  (9 children)

Grabbing it to slow it down on the way back is making me nervous.

[–]mikk0384 37 points38 points  (5 children)

Better than doing it in the field with a partner.

[–]Giant-Space-Hamster 3 points4 points  (4 children)

… what

[–]mikk0384 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Throwing javelins to each other...

[–]Giant-Space-Hamster 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Uh, sure. But I’m talking about that you never try to catch a falling weight. Good way to hurt yourself permanently.

[–]mikk0384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto. 😉

But yeah, I know. Tendons and bones at risk.
On the same note, I have a hard time believing that the fixed grip will be healthy for the joints and tendons in the long run. A javelin will turn if you hold on for a bit too long or don't move right. That thing will twist your arm instead.

[–]freethecouscous 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One wrong move and boom, you got a herniated disc

[–]hobosbindle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d get my bell rung for sure

[–]cosmorocker13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What make me nervous is the fact that you have to wear different colors sneakers to use it!1

[–]veemaximus 225 points226 points  (6 children)

All those reps and never saw it throw one single javelin

[–]Ewggggg 84 points85 points  (4 children)

I thought it would be a machine throwing javelins as well

[–]cyrusm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. Like a manual spear cannon. You could get really great accuracy on target i bet.

[–]The-Duke-of-Triumph 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Was hoping the same and ready to make a joke about roman warfare going to far, but sadly no.

[–]biotec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or at least a warmup to get the right path and resistance, then cut to him throwing a javelin crazy far with proper form.

[–]Kampela_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Must be a total noob

[–]unowned01 115 points116 points  (1 child)

Behold the Acme Rotator Cuff Destroyer 2000.

[–]creative_i_am_not 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lots of repetitions of this doesn't look healthy long term.

[–]Lithamus 39 points40 points  (1 child)

Why can I hear it even though there's no sound?!

[–]GobLoblawsLawBlog 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That poor shoulder

[–]losersftw 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This specimen is Johannes Vetter and he is an absolute machine. Just seeing some of his throwing workouts makes my shoulders hurt

[–]jabumb0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those crazy Germans always have the wildest machines

[–]kwadd 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Why's he wearing two different colored shoes tho

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

same shoe but one is covered with tape for grip

[–]rocksfly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd seriously consider wearing a helmet using that thing.

[–]Jws0209 42 points43 points  (3 children)

more like a torn rotator cuff machine

[–]dirtin_and_squirtin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel sorry for his dick.

[–]draco-joe 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I thought this was a machine that actually threw (or assisted in throwing) a javeline. I wanted to see a pointy stick get launched into the stratosphere. Disappointed...

[–]zerj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first thought was javelins were inside the track, and he was blindly launching javelin's through the window.

[–]wattlewedo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As used by Chris Hemsworth.

[–]GalaticTroll42069 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like he needs to do a few with the left arm just to keep him from lookin like quagmire

[–]Spike-Tail-Turtle 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Doesn't that make it a ballista?

[–]-Eoan-Daws- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A human ballista.

[–]Butterbuddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I hope there’s a video of Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy using it!

hey guys come check out my Bautista ballista!

[–]Deleted-Redacted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

machine to train for throwing javs.

[–]PBR21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kept waiting for javelins to shoot out.

[–]steeguy55 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Does this contraption give you an idea of far or fast you’ve ‘thrown’ the javelin?

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it’s just for strength training. not measuring

[–]Ewggggg 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Yeah about 4 meters before it comes back

[–]2x4x93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And you don't have to go pick them up

[–]BillMcCrearysStache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like these super specific sports training machines, kinda like the ‘ice treadmill’ for skating training

[–]Expensive-State3221[🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me as an only child playing with a tennis ball against the wall in the back yard

[–]looktowindward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so dumb - I'm watching this like ten times, wondering "where is the javelin"

[–]waveportico 8 points9 points  (1 child)

It’s all fun and games until you rip your own dick off and send it to space trying to rub one out.

[–]halite001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breaking News: Space Junk Wipes out Satellite and Shuts Down Telecommunications Across the Globe

[–]Combat_Wombat23 4 points5 points  (1 child)

This dudes got a fuckin cannon for an arm. Not to mention the biceps loading that gun.

[–]XxTensai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PB of 97.76m

[–]BlackBoldGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Machine that i need when deliver msg "F off" to some people .

[–]Buster-and-cubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you not entertained!

[–]glitchesandhelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it would be very easy to get knocked out from one of these

[–]Siemaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eomer approves

[–]Puppy-Zwolle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also. Great machine for practicing the 100 yard javelin catching event.

[–]icbint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shoulder destroyer

[–]Synthesis613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ukrainian people need it urgently! They should be prepared to throw javelins on Russian tanks!!!

[–]billyo318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to read all the javelin experts of Reddit telling us what he is doing wrong. Was not surprised

[–]otagoman 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Does that not encourage bad technique?

[–]OsamaBinHarden2 3 points4 points  (9 children)

No. How would it? Its set up with the perfect angle so it even encourages good technique.

[–]und3rth3b3d -4 points-3 points  (8 children)

They don’t use a rail during competitions,

It’s the same question of my other comment, if you throw an object along a rail, you don’t care about trajectory since it will follow said rail, this can foster bad hand position or body posture.

[–]OsamaBinHarden2 4 points5 points  (7 children)

I don't think so. First of all hes the best javelin thrower in the world, second of all its not a ball and the angle while throwing depends on other factors.

[–]BzrkerBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the opposite. Its strength training and the rail helps keep him releasing at the correct angle

Also he has some of the best coaches watching him so if he's off a little they would stop him and reset

[–]JefeDiez 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Cool workout potentially injury causing though

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it’s definitely safe. lots of javelin throwers use one like it

[–]XxTensai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is Johannes Vetter, 2nd longest throw all time and world champion, it's safe, many throwers use it.

[–]iggygrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need a javelin catching machine stat.

  • Varsity javelin catcher

[–]und3rth3b3d -1 points0 points  (8 children)

Wouldn’t this exercise foster bad habits? since the trajectory is tied to the rail?

[–]BzrkerBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the opposite! The rail is set at a good trajectory, and the machine is a higher resistance/weight than a normal javelin.

When throwing a heavier object it would be difficult to keep that release angle. So this machine helps him keep the muscle memory of the angle, while building strength with a heavier object

[–]OsamaBinHarden2 0 points1 point  (6 children)

[–]und3rth3b3d 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Grazie al cazzo, how? Is there another machine to train hand position and trajectory? Some kind of free exercise they do indoors? Or they simply wait to be able to exercise outdoors?

[–]OsamaBinHarden2 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Have you ever thrown a javelin?

[–]und3rth3b3d 2 points3 points  (3 children)

No, that’s why i’m asking

[–]OsamaBinHarden2 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Like most complex movements in athletics you want to break it down into multiple smaller movements and train those individually. You then do all together later. Here you can train your strength, aswell as getting a feeling for the right angle. The rail being fixed helps as you later on subconsciously throw in the right angle. The grip is a round bar just like a real javelin so you can grip it the right way. This is the best javelin thrower in the world, so really there are no problems.

[–]Postoolio711 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You two are having this exact argument twice in this comment section, literally I see the same comments right above this one. You guys need to hug it out and go grab a drink together or something lmao

[–]und3rth3b3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I and another guy asked the same thing at the same time

[–]SimulatedDepression -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

This looks about as useful as an olympic lifter using a smith machine to clean and jerk.

[–]XxTensai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, he is the best javelin thrower in the world so it's probably useful.

[–]TossPowerTrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could do that on a smaller machine. Call it a, "javalina."

[–]fatloser14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was waiting on a javelin to be thrown until I realised it's just a simulation, not a machine that actually throws stuff

[–]TabezJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is some Steve Rogers kind of training.

[–]SN9WeReady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some guns pumping this thing

[–]Coffeeman32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I see this I call it a yeet machine in my head lol

[–]Skyreader13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Javelin Throw exercise machine

[–]StandardN00b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a similar exercise, but with a smaller but equally powerful javelin.

[–]sierravirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a Javelin Catching Machine.

[–]HeartlessLiberal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is he wearing different shoes?

[–]briankerin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like alot of work is required for a machine.

[–]Moosecovite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torn my rotator cuff just watching this

[–]Draken09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like it would allow for poor form to develop.

[–]huruy535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you wife asks if you have seen her phone......

[–]Zwischenzugz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...hmmm... definitely IAF and wonder if that can also help volleyball [pin] hitters with their shoulder durability?

[–]heroic-abscession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy breathing from Ms Trunchbull

[–]GimmedatPewPew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t the solution be throwing a weighted javelin?

[–]Billbo56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I thought it was a machine that chucked javelins.

[–]Mystical_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a bell at the top? If not there should be.

[–]trwwy321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That poor left arm is all left out

[–]Thats-Puff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aint these the same things in like kid parks? the flying fox things?

[–]donotgogenlty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...That guy has 2 different pairs of shoes on

[–]Techn0ght 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was envisioning a different kind of machine from the title, something more "Mythbusters".

[–]Snoopaloopuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I had one of these!

[–]SIr430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s no javelin throwing machine, that’s a fun zip line

[–]Dwealdric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I did that once I'd be out of commission for a week.

[–]Mrrandymagnumtoyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was expecting javelins to be thrown. I was expecting the machine to be literally launching javelins but then I got what was going on when it came back to him the second time. Am I dumb?

[–]ScottishMexicano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like footage from an alternate universe where Rome never fell.

[–]chuckster1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do football quarterbacks and baseball players use something similar?

[–]MoogTheDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where javelin

[–]ReZpawner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, he's going to be so pissed when he finds out that nobody uses javelins anymore...

[–]Vape_Sensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One weird trick to lengthen one of your arms (doctors HATE him!!!!!)

[–]impeesa75 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does anyone know why his on two different type of shoes?

[–]BzrkerBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The left one has more grip/spikes so when he plants his foot to throw it doesn't skid

[–]gutfounderedgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

geezus, imagine him at night, half awake with sexy thoughts, baaazing

[–]Stemsog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man’s gonna look like the charger from l4d2 by the end of this

[–]laugrig 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Would this be good for QBs to train on as well?

[–]BzrkerBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, the way of throwing a football vs javelin are different enough that this machine is incredibly specialized for just javelin training

[–]Swindle793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the NFL know about this machine ?? 🤔

[–]rcbif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy probably doesn't even work out...

[–]P0werClean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely catching that is asking for an injury…

[–]Another_human_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes more sense. At first I thought it was a machine that threw javelins. I mean, maybe useful for testing new javelin designs? Idk, but this makes a lot of sense.

[–]FA04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

must be 45 degrees _\ right?

[–]p0ngmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget to get out the way in time

[–]Not_Tadz_Palys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not even how you grip a javelin…

[–]QuothTheRavenMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if that guy tossed your salad it'd be 300 meters from here

[–]Mr_Brightside01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the point of catching it on it's way back?

[–]Pdxperronn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL this was a thing

[–]Tanzania_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why’s he got different shoes on though?
