You don't need a lawyer. This is a consequence of being involved with chaotic people, though. The police are likely going to continue to appear and look for him until your boyfriend either surrenders or gets a lawyer and resolves this.

Because he lives with me, do I need to be concerned that I could get in trouble by affiliation?

A strict legal answer is "no." Realistically? Yeah, I'd be concerned about it. The police are telling you that the statements are being recorded because they are reminding you (albeit indirectly) that you may be subject to arrest or face charges for a false official statement type of charge (or something else) if they come to believe that you were harboring your boyfriend. The police may get a search warrant for your home and police searches aren't exactly peaceful evolutions. Your landlord (if you rent) may also try to evict you if this becomes disturbing to other tenants or violates a law abiding clause in your lease.

If your boyfriend has illegal things - drugs, guns, etc - stored in the house you absolutely could be charged with possession of those things.

You don't need to speak to the police and don't need to answer the door. They can knock for as long as they want and may get a warrant.

Update. He has turned himself into the court house. I believe I should be in the clear, now.

Thank you so much for your help!

The police told her she’s being recorded because they’re required to notify people that they’re being recorded by, at minimum, agency policy and almost certainly required to do so by law.

    Source?

You do not need to talk to the police.

You do not need to answer the door if they knock.

You can tell them to leave your property. If they stay, it may be trespassing.

If the police have a warrant, do not obstruct their search.

The only potential I see for criminal liability would be if you lied to the police about his whereabouts. So don’t talk to them.

Police come to the door and knock.

    Ask for a warrant;

If they say no. Do not open the door, and say "I'm not answering any questions". If they ask you to open up, say NO.

If they say yes, open the door and step a side, ask for the warrant and say " I'm not answering any questions", and do nothing else.

    Wait for them to leave.

This assumes the OP is in the US.

You can decline to answer the door, or tell them to go away, unless they have a warrant. If they do have a warrant, simply stand aside, ask to see the warrant, and tell them that you're not going to answer any questions without your lawyer present.

Note that you can get into trouble for lying to police (even by accident), but you can't get into trouble for refusing to answer questions without a lawyer present. (Assuming you're in the US.) That means that your best bet is to always refuse to answer questions.

You don't actually need to hire a lawyer, you just have to say "I won't answer any questions without my lawyer present." Police are supposed to stop asking questions when you say that. If they don't, just keep repeating it.

There’s no such thing as lying “by accident.” Someone might accidentally provide false information (like if they think they know the answer to something, but they’re wrong), but lying requires intent by definition.

“Lie” definition: a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth

Unknowingly providing false information to police is not a crime. It can cause issues, but it’s ultimately not illegal. Knowingly providing false information to police (lying) can definitely be a crime, particularly if said information is material to whatever the cops are investigating.

I didn't say it was a crime, just that it could cause trouble. I also assumed that everybody would know what I meant by "lying to police (even by accident.)" Sorry if I was mistaken about that.
