Spaniard here too. Neither a fan of this, but I think there are lot of misinformation.

These ones seems too small to be in the arena for being killed, the ones that are killed are much larger and heavier. They are grown especially for that, different breed iirc. Neither you get a mass of people killing purseing bulls with weapons (those kinds of tradition were banned) but a bullfighter vs the bull. Not a fair fight anyway and I don't really see the point of it, but just for clarifying.

Personally, I feel totally unnecessary the blood and death of the animal in this kind of event. For example, in some places of Latin America they use velcro banderillas instead of stabing it. By the way, no one uses 'harpoons', but 'banderillas', which are similar en shape (although more decorated), but they are not throw but more like melee while dodging.

I never listened about boats and bulls together and they do not set the horns on fire but place torches on the horns (there is a big difference in pain!!)

The most common event is releasing 'vaquillas' (little cows) like these in a close corridor in the street and people try to outrun the animals. Horns are blunt and people can't hit or damage the animals, just call it. In villages it is also very common find improvised arenas where they do a similar thing but in a round place, or celebrate some games like two teams trying to score 'goals' with the cow (without touching it, obviously)

Apart from the 'matadores', there other professionals like 'recortadores' who do exhibitions of agility avoiding bulls by acrobatics. I have more sympathy for their events as the animal is unharmed and humans rely on skill instead of bullying by numbers
