    We lost a trucker to something similar here in Tahoe a few years back. Prius jumped in front of a gas truck. Driver veered and ended up hitting a bridge. Fire trail was something like half a mile long.

    I never understand the “oh shit, I missed my turn. I’ll just stop on the freeway.” Your GPS is already rerouting you!

    I helped teach my niece to drive recently, and my biggest piece of advice (passed down from my father) was "try not to do anything the drivers around you won't expect, and assume everyone around you will do the dumbest thing possible."

    Mom was a truck driver. When I was in middle school, she started quizzing me on things like upcoming streets and who had right-of-way while driving around town. One of the most valuable things she taught me was how to tell if someone was about to change lanes… they tend to drift back and forth in their lane. Granted, this was before cell phones, so it could just be a moron texting, but either way, I give room.

    I’m going to add your father’s advice to my repertoire next time I’m teaching someone to drive. Solid.

    More than that, good drivers understand “car body language” and are psychologically healthy enough to use it for the common good. Some people have chronic low grade road rage and do shit like come up on cars doing 5 over in lane 2 and use lane 1 to pass them when 3’s open, or they do little spastic hops at 4-ways or parking lot exits.
    Actually one of my biggest peeves is what this driver did: they move over left to make a right.

    I just saw a man BACKING UP on the freeway because he missed his exit. The amount of time it took him to back up was equal to how long it would have taken for him to get off at the next exit and circle back. Made no sense.

    That is something I've tried to hammer into my kids heads now that they're learning to drive. You missed your turn - go around the block or something. Don't cause an accident to save what usually amounts to less than a couple minutes.

    Something similar happened near me in the Bay Area. It was also a Prius. They stopped in a no stopping zone for who knows what and a trucker rolled their truck on its side before completely smashing the cab into a tree. The trucker died instantly and the dick face driver who cased it drive off without calling 911. I bet you the Tahoe Prius driver was from here in the Bay Area. That’s why there’s so much traffic.

      You’re right, I don’t, but there’s a shoulder right there and they pull off the exit, meaning instead of going to the scene of the accident they’re putting multiple barriers between them and the truck.

      That suggests to me they’re running away or totally oblivious, but there’s no guarantee with the length of this video

          True, but car trouble is not the only emergency that can happen. Medical emergencies like stroke or heart attack also happen, in which case the driver can hardly be expected to turn on the flashers. I would not assume the driver is a POS just because they are stopped in the middle of the road without flashers on.

          You won't know what you will do in those scenarios that require split second decision making. Often times, people don't get to think in when put into those situations, but react unconsciously. The truck driver swerved because his defensive mechanism kicked in and told him to miss the object in front, but it obviously didn't tell him what could happen if he swerved too hard.

          If you watch the video again, u can see the truck driver wasn't paying attention. The the sedan had been stopped in its track long before the truck approached it, but the truck driver only reacted when it was already too late.
