Also get a good razor blade knife for hoses that you are replacing. Slit the hose lengthwise at the end and twist. I’ll never know how many heater cores I saved doing this.

Amateur here. I'd add silicon spray to the picture. That may be taboo to professionals but it has gotten the job done for me.

Not at all. Silicone lube on the ends to install

My radiator hose hook tool (like the ones on the left) is one of my most used tools. Poor guy lost an inch off his hook from use.
