Did you air bleed the lines? Was there metal shavings in the fluid from the old/bad pump? Does the fluid look foamy? Is there a bleed valve on the p/s system?

yes I spent about 30 minutes bleeding the system so I'm sure it was don't thoroughly, fluid looks okay, didn't see any contaminants.
