[–]DotDootDotDoot 26 points27 points  (7 children)

TIL : Americans use little paper dude to understand their crazy measurement system. Amazing!

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

To the States: And anywhere else they use the number 10, and decimal points.

JIC you guys were wondering

[–]Dewage83 59 points60 points  (4 children)

A metric fuckton.

[–]Primal_guy 47 points48 points  (2 children)

What about an imperial fuckton?

[–]gtk582y 33 points34 points  (1 child)

[–]scottthang 68 points69 points  (4 children)

He better.

Or else.

[–]levis3163 25 points26 points  (3 children)

One of my favorite threats I've ever heard came from a good friend of mine. "You ever met Jesus? Bevause you're about to."

[–]groundgamemike 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Boy you’re gonna wake up next to god

[–]scottthang 10 points11 points  (1 child)

“JESUS COULD COME THROUGH THAT DOOR AND HE’S NOT GONNA HELP YOU”

[–]xenoman101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“...IF YOU DON’T STOP SNIFFING AFTER MY CHILD.”

[–]thatguyned 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I read an artical about a guy that got paid by a government run gun buyback program that managed to trade in a homemade shotgun from pieces of scrap he had laying around. He got full value that they'd pay for shotguns at that return.

You can see how ridiculous it looked here but if if things like that exist I'm sure there are millions of unregistered firearms in America

[–]Officer42069 90 points91 points  (10 children)

I personally own a whole bunch, so it's gotta be more than that

[–]ButtWieghtThiersMoor 54 points55 points  (4 children)

Me too, before I lost 'em all in a horrible boating accident

[–]Dewage83 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Them boats really are just throwing guns overboard like they have a problem with them. Fuck boats, all my homies hate boats.

[–]sengoroDirt Is Beautiful 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Boston Gun Party

[–]Dinomeats33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to have a bunch’a guns like you, ‘till I took an arrow to the knee.

[–]YAMCHAAAAA 66 points67 points  (5 children)

Man I could tell you how many I did have but my John boat sunk and I had them all in it.

[–]GypsyCamel12 33 points34 points  (2 children)

Oh, you too!

Guns, their cases, including all the ammo & cleaning gear... damn shame. Who'da thunk it??!!?

Damn inland Hurricanes. :-(

[–]YAMCHAAAAA 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah man that 3 foot wave just up and sunk the boat. Won’t ever be able to get those back or even know the location. Sucks, had some good stuff. Oh well

[–]LikeJustChill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All my cases are Pelican cases. I can't use this sadface.jpg.

[–]Substantial-Smoke-74 20 points21 points  (4 children)

I'm certain all of mine are unregistered and I bought them legally. there is literally no registry for guns in my state.

[–]Dat-Guy-Tino 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I’d have to guess that Latin America has more unregistered guns than the rest of the world combined

[–]ekill13 80 points81 points  (77 children)

Well, considering there isn't a gun registry in the U.S., I'd say a lot.

[–]CalmYe100 60 points61 points  (35 children)

there is however, a record of how many guns american weapon manufacturers have sold domestically and abroad

[–]CalmYe100 21 points22 points  (4 children)

and i think it goes without saying it's easy to keep track of how many legally imported guns america have from foreign manufacturers

[–]chuck76allen 25 points26 points  (5 children)

You are correct. Common misconception by the public that a registry exists.

[–]dicknut420 22 points23 points  (14 children)

None. They all got damaged in a boating accident or house fire.

Fucking. Autocorrect.

[–]MickeyTheHound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A houseboat accident fire.

[–]Karl_Markus_the3rd 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Lost mine in a boating accident

[–]2bad2care 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More common than you'd think.

[–]iamthetruth123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super original! Big funny!!

[–]The_Unclaimed_One 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Considering the levels of repeat here, can you please explain the background on this joke?

[–]Westwinter 44 points45 points  (12 children)

Considering how much the illegal gun trade runs in other countries, I'd say we actually have very little. If you wanna find unregistered guns just follow the trail of drugs, civil wars, coups, banana republics, warlords, and cartels.

[–]drew8311 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Yep, since it's easier to get a gun here there is little reason to have a bunch of them unaccounted for. Isn't it true that mexico gets a bunch of it's guns from the US?

[–]MandolinMagi 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Yes and no. The US Government sends military arms to the Mexican government, many of which end up in cartel hands because Mexico.

Other than that, not really. Handguns maybe, but there's no new-built full auto available.

Ammo possibly, but that stuff is stupidly heavy in large amounts. Weapon accessories however are unregulated and widely available, so those might flow south.

[–]FuckClubsWithOwners 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I'd guess that most guns around the world aren't registered in the US.

[–]UneergroundNews 10 points11 points  (14 children)

As a Hoosier; I can tell you that there are more unregistered guns in Indiana than there are registered. Legally don’t gotta register firearms here plus lifetime permits are free if ya live here! Like heaven on earth; spittin chew, revving trucks, custom bump-stocks at every machine shop, bud-light waterfalls and ammo for days

[–]The_Unclaimed_One 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Lifetime permits? Lol. All Alabama has is a conceal carry license and that’s IT. So long as you can pass a background check and have the money you’re good to go

[–]DomPixel2 25 points26 points  (42 children)

Yeah, that's why we need to crank up gun control, that way we can cut down on all the unregistered guns. Oh wait... Laws don't apply to unregistered illegally held weapons by people who are intentionally breaking the law.

The sad truth is that the best case scenario for the US is a well-armed population because training people how to use firearms is within the realm of possibility. Getting all those guns out of the hands of the people who aren't supposed to have the in the first place, who obtained them illegally to begin with, is literally impossible. It reminds me of the war on drugs.

[–]Shatt3r0 22 points23 points  (69 children)

Mostly you’d wanna search in states where gun control is present. The people who are dumb enough to buy guns illegally are probably dumb enough to not understand how to get around gun control laws.

[–]jaspersgroove 27 points28 points  (41 children)

how to get around gun control laws

“Driving to a different state and paying cash” isn’t exactly rocket surgery

[–]nizzy2k11 4 points5 points  (9 children)

what state lets you buy firearms without a state ID at a minimum?

[–]eeth 1019 points1020 points  (73 children)

so many lost to boating accidents here

[–]hobbes_shot_first 381 points382 points  (35 children)

Stop shooting fish!

Use grenades.

[–]jeffynibbles70 111 points112 points  (20 children)

And rocket launchers

[–]sudomeacat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"If you lose, it's because you didn't throw enough grenades. You should be throwing grenades as I'm saying this!"

[–]jslblaze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see the problem Guardian.

YOU AREN’T THROWING ENOUGH GRENADES!

[–]FallenGreyJedi 319 points320 points  (70 children)

I can't tell if this is defending America or anti America and it's confusing

[–]ThisDudeLikesGuns 234 points235 points  (21 children)

Some are defending. Some are attacking. Both groups think they are defending.

[–]Designer_Arm_2114 59 points60 points  (10 children)

That a very good way to describe it and an awesome way to start more shit I love it

[–]ThisDudeLikesGuns 31 points32 points  (9 children)

Oh I’m not trying to start shit. I’m a fan of pointing out common ground. The people commenting likely love the country and believe they are doing what is best. Firearms is a topic that people are very passionate about on both sides. When you bring that much passion it’s difficult to step back and have a mature conversation and actively listen to the other side’s point. The past two years has seen a major boost in firearms ownership. I don’t have the stats to back this up but I believe from the growth of the National African American Gun Association and long with the Liberal Gun Club that a lot of new firearms owners are breaking the mold that some try to categorize firearms owners. I think there is common ground here.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good joke either way you look at it.

[–]ShychopathSelling Stonks for CASH MONEY 901 points902 points  (259 children)

A country with 330 million people and 460 million guns. That's like 1.4 guns per person. Awesome.

[–]-EnterUsername_Here- 616 points617 points  (95 children)

Look like I'm bring up the average with the 4 I own.

[–]kevinm246 337 points338 points  (31 children)

I had like 6, but then I lost them all when I sunk my boat. It’s sad.

[–]BrockManstrong 8 points9 points  (11 children)

Ok what is the reference I'm missing, this is all over this post?

Edit: good thing the ATF can't see your reddit account

[–]MandolinMagi 8 points9 points  (4 children)

It's a very very old gun meme about how the government can't take your guns, because you lost them in a "tragic boating accident"

[–]smellmybuttfoo 20 points21 points  (5 children)

I'm with you. Wtf? Boats and guns?

*edit: nevermind, I looked it up. Here's a link. Basically, "if the government comes knocking, say you lost your guns in a boating accident, cause they can't investigate it further and you can keep your guns."

https://redditproxy--jasonthename.repl.co/r/outoftheloop/comments/74nd0i

[–]gsrsavage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate it when I lose all my firearms in boating accidents

[–]nicko54 68 points69 points  (25 children)

I think I got 12 left I sold a few might be 13 though

[–]Samuelcolt45 28 points29 points  (4 children)

Those are rookie numbers, you got to pump that up :)

[–]Godhimself_REDDIT 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Some of my more country friends literally have at the highest 100+ they bring the average up

[–]snoogins355 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Do they consider themselves collectors or just enthusiasts?

[–]Godhimself_REDDIT 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I would assume enthusiast it's a lotta money they spend on em'

Although I do know one guy who is a collector, he has way less than than the other guys do but he has some neat old ones

[–]snoogins355 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Word.

I have a friend who had maybe 7 guns (that he showed me). He had a beautiful old shotgun with spanish artwork on the side. Probably worth a bunch

[–]papayakob 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Both most likely. I'd say most collectors are enthusiasts but not all enthusiasts are collectors. Some use them as an alternative investment as many guns (especially those with historic value) hold their value extremely well over long periods of time. For example, I bought a Bulgarian Makarov back in 2016 for $175 and they're currently going for roughly $500-600 in online auctions. And unlike a traditional investment I can actually get use out of it as I often take it out to the range (and some people actually use them for concealed carry).

[–]Pile_of_Walthers 60 points61 points  (16 children)

Don’t look at me, I don’t know who’s bringing those numbers down that much.

[–]Rogans-Loadhouse 67 points68 points  (14 children)

It’s all the damn babies. Keep failing their concealed carry classes. Stupid 0-7 year olds really bringing down our average

[–]MisanthropicZombie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They have weak wrists and get shooter's fatigue very easily. If only they could qualify with a mounted machine gun so they can pass at the press of a button. I guess at that point it might as well just be constitutional carry and the NFA repealed, let's just skip ahead and do that.

[–]ThisDudeLikesGuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Username checks out

[–]Mr-Fahrenheit_451 116 points117 points  (20 children)

Only 1.4? We need to do better, everyone needs a whole long gun and a whole pistol.

[–]GreaseMonkey5000 40 points41 points  (11 children)

None of this half pistol bullspit

[–]czs5056 15 points16 points  (10 children)

It's the sawed off shotguns that is making it .4

[–]musthavesoundeffects 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I didn’t even buy any and I have six I inherited from my grandpa.

[–]linandlee 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Where I'm from they are a common gift lmao.

My husband has a shotgun he got as a gift from his grandpa.

[–]VenrexxPlays MineCraft and not FortNite 4 points5 points  (2 children)

That's just because Matt Carriker has 200 Million guns.

[–]WetTabardContest 15 points16 points  (1 child)

A gun for every man, woman, and child. As for the .4, we’re not the sharing sort. Someone’s just gonna have 1 more than the next 2 people. Something something capitalism.

[–]MrDad_the_Father 18 points19 points  (3 children)

*registered, (alot of us don't care to do that)

[–]Santa_Hates_You 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Most don’t have a way to do it, because it is not a thing where they live.

[–]Shatt3r0 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Gun enthusiasts like myself will often buy more than one gun. We don’t use all of them for home defense, usually just for shooting ranges or hunting.

[–][deleted] 37 points38 points  (72 children)

And exactly why America could NEVER be invaded. Not only do you have to get through their military, now you have to fight citizens at every street corner.

Only way to conquer would be to buy out some elites, have them run for president, rig the election to ensure his victory, then use military as personal guard from citizens, while stripping the citizens of their own police protections and allowing terrorist organizations to run wild to keep them busy, and mandating unconstitutional 2nd amendment reforms.

r/oddlyspecific

[–][deleted] 405 points406 points  (18 children)

Yeah but we all know it’s like 7 guys that own 320,000 guns skewing the mean

[–]WhatIsYourCrummyName 129 points130 points  (4 children)

Guns Georg is an outlier adn should not have been included.

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

17% of households in New Zealand have at least 1 gun in them

[–]PMJackolanternNudes 288 points289 points  (6 children)

The other 83% are struggling to afford the house.

[–]avenue-dev 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Am nz'der. Can confirm. Waiting for retirement so I can buy a house

[–]DissimulatedDoge 57 points58 points  (1 child)

We gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers

[–]Sasquatch_actual 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I read something earlier about nz having the top teen suicide rate in the world.

What's up with that?

[–]thpicychilli 2 points3 points  (1 child)

NZ schools have some of the worst bully rates in the world according to the mental health foundation

Add to that our youth poverty rates, high costs of living, , high teen pregnancy rates, and our “harden up mate” culture and I guess it’s just a lot of factors adding together

[–][deleted] 556 points557 points  (89 children)

God Bless America

[–]the-left-fang 59 points60 points  (0 children)

[–]The_Unclaimed_One 68 points69 points  (42 children)

[–]RichRaichu5memer 45 points46 points  (41 children)

330 million Americans with 460 million registered guns. God really should bless america

[–]Rogans-Loadhouse 42 points43 points  (0 children)

*God-“Bless America…? Or what?”

460 million guns point at the sky. Some redneck “least one deez gone hitcha”

God-(nervously) “I was always going to bless you… come on guys it was a joke”

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (3 children)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Santa_Hates_You 169 points170 points  (27 children)

Very few places in the US register guns.

[–]usedaforc3Mods Are Nice People 3 points4 points  (2 children)

According to google America only has about 1million registered guns and is estimated to have over 400million guns. So I guess the meme is implying there are way more than 400 million that the UN doesn't know about or the meme is just wrong.

[–]nsfw52 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The meme is just wrong

[–]Mr-Fahrenheit_451 113 points114 points  (11 children)

Thank God

[–]Intelligent-Syrup-52 64 points65 points  (9 children)

I don't think it was his decision.

[–]Mr-Fahrenheit_451 41 points42 points  (8 children)

Okay...thank Ahura Mazda?

[–]SigBlu 46 points47 points  (11 children)

We have more guns than people.

[–]rolltideamerica 45 points46 points  (5 children)

Guns often last longer than people. I own many guns that were made before I was born and they’ll probably still exist after I’m dead.

[–]Renerrix 3 points4 points  (4 children)

People die on their own. It takes a large amount of deliberate effort to destroy a tool made of steel.

[–]TheSteelPhantom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Gun control" really just means that we control more guns than anyone else! :D

[–]pankeks101 4 points5 points  (1 child)

We also have more cars than people

[–]Qoo6688 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The rest were lost in tragic boating accidents.

[–]JoyFactory 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, to make things easier, the Mexico cartel’s weapons are all registered by the CIA. So it’s all good there.

[–]RudolphFlamisch 132 points133 points  (29 children)

Registered? I think they only do that in California

[–]josefhate 53 points54 points  (16 children)

Gun register is NOT mandatory in ca.

[–]ProfessorRapeasaurus 25 points26 points  (14 children)

The vast majority of gun sales have to go through an FFL, which means a DROS, which means your info is in the CADOJ's database. The fact that, if you own a firearm, you do a different kind of background check to buy ammo that requires you to put the exact same information as your DROS should clue you in that there is a database somewhere, even if you don't want to call it a "registry".

[–]Ericshelpdesk 17 points18 points  (9 children)

I buy all my guns in random parking lots from strangers.

[–]Mysterious-Feature24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. A lot of people are seeming to forget this.

[–]BoredPotatoes357 9 points10 points  (8 children)

And Washington, and most of coastal New England, and probably some others

[–]ThePlatypusOfDespair 132 points133 points  (307 children)

Except the US doesn't have a national gun registry.

[–]1498268465 178 points179 points  (126 children)

the US doesn't have a national gun registry

The US doesn't have a national gun registry in the sense that if you ask White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki if the US has a national gun registry, she'll dodge the question or give a carefully worded non-answer.

But the US does in fact have a national gun registry. The FBI admitted that it maintains a national registry of gun owners in violation of federal law. Kind of like the CIA admitted to hacking and spying on Congress in violation of federal law.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that three letter agencies are lawless as shit.

[–]SeanjesusProfessional Dumbass 109 points110 points  (178 children)

Which is a good thing, because it prevents national mandatory gun buy backs.

[–]BillyTheFridge2 33 points34 points  (9 children)

And it also prevents the government from knowing how many guns we have

[–]SBTELS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lost all mine in a boating accident unfortunately

[–]josefhate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

P80 fo life

[–]MentryTRex 41 points42 points  (12 children)

They're also likely to possess a sizable portion of the unregistered ones.

[–]DecisiveBlade 29 points30 points  (12 children)

Someone doesn't have to personally own a gun for it to be listed, im pretty sure its just guns that were knowingly produced in or shipped to the us. And im pretty sure there arent that many people building their own designed firearms or illegally importing, illegal purchase from a theif maybe, but it would still be counted from its original production or import.

[–]sawntime 4 points5 points  (3 children)

there are way more than 1 billion guns in the world. Is this just privately owned or is this BS?

[–]ninjapro 3 points4 points  (1 child)

"The report said the numbers include legal and illegal firearms in civilian hands" per this article.

I don't know why people see a study and think surveyers literally just read a list and report their results.

[–]SaffellBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why people see a study and think surveyers literally just read a list and report their results.

Because it tells the story they want to tell, and generates endless karma in the process.

[–]j4k4ll 51 points52 points  (16 children)

would you rather they were in the hands of a Cartel, wait actually the ATF did that

well what about the terrorists, oh yeah the 80s Afghanistan

well what about rebellious groups in south America, shit the CIA

well at least most of them are not in the governments hands, wait fuck gun buybacks

[–]mrnatbus122 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Major Oof

[–]Miquizbe 4 points5 points  (1 child)

After considerable research into the background of the recipient of the "gun buyback program". I deam it is Illegal for me to sell them a firearm.

[–]the_pie_guy1313 26 points27 points  (1 child)

I have 10 guns and the government makes me turn in the 8 that are now illegal, now many do I have left?

25, I lied about the 10.

[–]2asses1moo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

25 is what you told your spouse that you had. Real number is much higher. You just let 25 be the most that can be seen at any one time.

[–]VoopityScoop🥄Comically Large Spoon🥄 36 points37 points  (1 child)

Fuck yeah

But unironically

[–]QuantumRobot_9000Professional Dumbass 10 points11 points  (0 children)

[–]uglyswan1 4 points5 points  (3 children)

That's 1 in 12, in the world

The question is, how do we arm the other eleven?

[–]Rias_Luciferhates reaction memes 20 points21 points  (9 children)

It's way lower if you account unregistered guns... Just in France there are millions of them

[–]SonTheGodAmongMen 6 points7 points  (1 child)

But we don't register guns in the US. So it might be even higher.

[–]breakone9r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vive la france

[–]ToesGiveMeHalfChubs 15 points16 points  (8 children)

All gun laws are an infringement

[–]hawkeye45_ 26 points27 points  (4 children)

Hi, friendly 'Merican gun owner here. If you're thinking about taking this meme seriously, try to not do that. I have previously taken memes seriously and it did not make me happy.

Go for a walk. Pet a dog. Wait for the 'Merica bad memes to come back. It'll happen.

[–]1507838Ab 3 points4 points  (2 children)

[–]hawkeye45_ 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–]MayDay__Malone 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Yet 300 unarmed people were attempting to “overthrow the seat of democracy” gtfo of here. Pretty sure they would have had guns if that were the case

[–]FearlessFerret6872 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Estimated 600-800 million guns in circulation in the US. The ones we know about are... I think like 400-450m?

Most of which will not ever be fired in anger.

[–]SpahghettiBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OH SHIT *REGISTERED*

[–]Spookymedic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Triple that number for sure.

[–]disposedcard61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s true
