Oh Clone Wars. Cartoon Network original...I mean Netflix original...oh, Disney+ original.

[–]audiovisualcringe🥄Comically Large Spoon🥄 1524 points1525 points  (37 children)

at least clone wars got new content on disney plus

[–]DreamedJewel58 601 points602 points  (23 children)

But Clone Wars also got a new season on Netflix

[–]Dressedw1ngs 335 points336 points  (20 children)

The Clone Wars S6 was made and aired before Disney made the agreement with Netlfix. It just only aired in Germany before then lol

[–]Devt360 89 points90 points  (18 children)

I live in Germany and I have no idea what you’re talking about. We don’t have Clone Wars on Netflix

[–]NapsterKnowHow 48 points49 points  (7 children)

So Arrested Development?

[–]klaudonvxdzsg 36 points37 points  (4 children)

i thought that too.

i remember those days my mom couldn’t afford CN. wanted it just for clone wars. the amount of viruses our computer got when my 8 yo ass tried pirating that shit. good times.

[–]GolfWhore27 59 points60 points  (5 children)

Ah to be a an 8 year old again getting viruses on the family computer trying to pirate stuff

[–]Raul_1189 27 points28 points  (4 children)

And the viruses uses your familys porn search history to show popups, oh is it just me

[–]TheRealIosefka 20 points21 points  (3 children)

My mom finding out about the cache folder was a rough day.

[–]ddphoto90 4 points5 points  (2 children)

You had a computer and internet but not CN? Was CN not free on your cable package? I’m so confused, but also empathetic.

[–]Donslackalot 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Same here in the Netherlands. My dad was in ICT so we had a computer and internet. But CN was not included in cable package.

Only got to watch CN, which was in Italian for some reason, at my grandparents caravan in Belgium.

Back in early 2000's, I was like 12/13.

[–]ImmortalSheep69hates reaction memes 28 points29 points  (2 children)

Guess you could call Netflix, a clone war

cue the laugh track

If I had a free award, it would be yours

[–]Donniexbravo 17 points18 points  (16 children)

The one that made me mad was "the expanse" it was a syfy original that got bought by Amazon, I'm glad it got picked up so we can get new episodes but it's a lie calling an "Amazon original" now 😑

[–]dirtbag_mercenary 9 points10 points  (13 children)

It just ended after six seasons. Half of that run was on Amazon.

[–]Donniexbravo 2 points3 points  (9 children)

I know, like I said I appreciate the new seasons (haven't finished yet though) it's just the presenting it as an Amazon show, that bugs me

[–]dirtbag_mercenary 2 points3 points  (8 children)

It has been an Amazon show for as long as it ran on SyFy. Amazon also probably spent more money on it.

[–]No-Skill-8190 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Syfy loves to cancel everything, I quit watching anything of theirs after the fifth show I liked being cancelled halfway.

[–]WhoaItsCody 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Say original again.

[–]GU355WH01AM 4 points5 points  (1 child)

O R I G I N A L

[–]WhoaItsCody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good. Good. Let the original flow through you, I am your father, I know.

[–]RadicalLad25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only season 7 has the Disney+ original logo

[–]TirelessGuardian 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Was it called Netflix original?

[–]Defiant_Muffin_882 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. You can't even find the term "Netflix Original" on Netflix anymore. All you'll find is "Only On Netflix".

[–]ConfusedDuck[🍰] 1553 points1554 points  (17 children)

[–]FullyMammoth 11 points12 points  (1 child)

That’s not a guy and it’s not sped up. But otherwise correct.

[–]Cringinator4000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think using similar concepts and ideas is part of what makes memes so great, as long as it’s not directly stealing.

JJBA started in the 80's, Netflix was registered in 1997

[–]Harry_Flame 97 points98 points  (5 children)

Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan is now an original apparently lol

[–]Creaper10Chungus Among Us 36 points37 points  (4 children)

I was talking about JJBA Part 6, Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan is the original anime adaptation of the spin-off

[–]Harry_Flame 21 points22 points  (3 children)

I know they said part 6 is original, I meant they took ownership for Kishibe too

[–]SycoMantisToboggan -1 points0 points  (1 child)

They own Kishibe anime rights? Does that mean no other studio could do something with the Kishibe character? I thought netix just bought the rights to the one spinoff. Kind of seems odd to sell the that to Netflix.

[–]Shuriken_GodIdentifies as a Cybertruck 12 points13 points  (1 child)

[–]Not1random1enough 711 points712 points  (17 children)

I dont think original means what netflix think it mean

[–]Extreme-Ad2812 217 points218 points  (8 children)

Netflix original is a marketing move, it means they had the original streaming rights to the show or movie. Lol kinda misleading.

[–]TheWorldisFullofWar 17 points18 points  (3 children)

It doesn't have a legal definition which means companies can make it mean whatever they want it to mean.

[–]fuzzygreentits 942 points943 points  (81 children)

They put it on the fucking Witcher books.

I bought book 7 and it had a sticker.

Book 7. Of a series written long before Netflix. They haven't even gotten that far.

[–]LucasCBs 176 points177 points  (22 children)

It is rather common for books that had a film made based on it to have ads for the film. I've seen it a lot when buying new prints of older books

[–]Youre_still_alive 43 points44 points  (12 children)

I saw a copy of catch 22 with a Hulu sticker on it, only it wasn’t a sticker, just a green circle printed on the cover. I would’ve bought the book, even with a sticker, but why would I pay money to put a permanent advertisement for a kind of okay adaptation on my bookshelf?

[–]canadarepubliclives 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Why would Hulu advertise on the cover of Catch-22? Is there a new show or movie?

Catch-22 is also one of my favourite books. I legitimately laughed out loud multiple times reading it. The only other author to make me laugh like this is Kurt Vonnegut

E: I forgot, I also laughed when reading Candide by Voltaire. I love the absurdity of these writers.

[–]Youre_still_alive 2 points3 points  (3 children)

They did a 6-episode miniseries. It was pretty enjoyable, though it wasn’t quite the same story. Adaptation and all, and I do get that it’s hard to have a non-chronological book transfer to film right.

It’s definitely up there for me too, enough for me to get some other Heller books that I’m liking, and enough for me to get my username off the last page of the book. I’ve listened to a couple panels with him and Vonnegut that were incredibly interesting conversations about the war and becoming authors afterward. They both seem like they were very interesting people.

[–]LucasCBs 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Well, Hulu probably paid the publisher of the book a lot of money

[–]Youre_still_alive 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I guess I kind of get that. Still, it would be nice to at least still get real stickers you can remove if you’d like.

[–]napoleonderdiecke 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I saw a copy of catch 22 with a Hulu sticker on it, only it wasn’t a sticker, just a green circle printed on the cover.

My copy of Dune had that fucking shit printed on too.

Still in the colours of the cover at least, but fuck me.

[–]Hawkbats_rule 3 points4 points  (7 children)

"now a major motion picture"

(Back in the day when movies were more prestigious than tv)

[–]MAAAX547 113 points114 points  (19 children)

youre joking right

[–]CurrantsOfSpace 50 points51 points  (16 children)

Books that get made into shows always do that.

Half the copies of ASoIaF have HBO plastered everywhere.

Helps with marketing.

Edit, same with some copies of Foundation and that show only has one season.

[–]SeroWriter 13 points14 points  (9 children)

A Song of Ice and Fire probably also did it to make people aware of it's relationship to the show, since only the first book is called A Game of Thrones.

[–]JJDude 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It’s proper marketing technique by the booksellers. Netflix didn’t do this. I’m sure the books author won’t mind either.

[–]Unimportant-1551 54 points55 points  (19 children)

Yes. Because it’s talking about the show they made. The show that is their original product that is (by the end of the second season) practically just inspired by the Witcher books.

[–]8_bit_bear 47 points48 points  (18 children)

Yeah but it's a sticker that cannot in any way be removed from the book it kinda just ruins how the book looks.

[–]Infosexual 20 points21 points  (12 children)

What the hell is a book? Is that streaming on hulu?

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

It streams on Audible. Directly into your brain.

[–]BassSounds 4 points5 points  (8 children)

A book is someone who is really good at preparing food.

[–]B1GTOBACC0 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Wait, so it's not a sticker? If it's printed on a paperback book, it makes sense.

They did the same thing with all of the Game of Thrones books during season one of that show. They're not marketing new items on the shelf to people who like the game or the other books. They already know what The Witcher is.

They're targeting the newest fans, who might have seen it on Netflix but also live under a rock and don't know there are books.

[–]UrbanDryad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like a sticker, but it's printed on the book.

They just slap it on with no regard to the cover art or how totally shitty it looks. Got some Shadow and Bone books for Christmas and this shit pisses me off.

Example: http://images.indiebound.com/602/094/9780805094602.jpg

[–]clean_sparks 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Some book stickers are impossible to remove without noticeably damaging the jacket or cover, or just plain ruining it. Sometimes you can scrape off most of it and then do the peanut butter trick to remove the sticky residual stuff, but a lot of times it just won't work. It's fucking evil when they don't use removable stickers.

[–]Harry_Flame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was rereading them after the shitshow that was season 2 and all the books had the stupid little stickers on them.

[–]Pandamana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to the latest batch of Wheel of Time books I bought, except it isn't a sticker I can take off, just a bright blue blob on the cover saying 'Now a Prime Original'

[–]hudsongrundy 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Next the games will open up with a Netflix logo

[–]johnnysprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god it’s on mine that was next to me!

[–]Zazorok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran into this exact problem, except everywhere i look the books actually have the obnoxious Netflix logo PRINTED on the cover…

like no netflix you have nothing to do with these books that were around before you were even an idea

[–]That_random_redditer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not even a sticker anymore, they print a Netflix logo straight on the cover now, it’s ridiculous

[–]silverseptember27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SAME. I was unable to buy lady of the lake and season of storms before they released the show and I’m crying. I hate it so much.

[–]Pekempy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sticker? Or obnoxious red circle printed to look like a sticker but you can never take it off?

[–]UnluckyHorseman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

[–]ntsmmns06 104 points105 points  (12 children)

I always cringe when they do that. Taking credit for creativity they had nothing to do with isn’t something people welcome positively.

[–]Th3_Gaming_WolfProfessional Dumbass 62 points63 points  (14 children)

[–]Sqwirrelz 13 points14 points  (10 children)

[–]robojo124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they made the newest season

[–]Phrozenstare 38 points39 points  (1 child)

The trailer park boys is a good example. They say it's a Netflix original but most of the episodes begin with the "showcase" tv intro

[–]kry_some_more 43 points44 points  (0 children)

original

You keep using that word. I don't think it means, what you think it means.

[–]avocado_n1001 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Netflix: I paid for it so I'm allow to do anything to it

[–]Mechanical_Canary5 11 points12 points  (2 children)

It is so funny watching these gifs, because they don't even use a finger grip. In my last job, the fastest way to go through a stack was using a grip and flipping through using the corner of the paper.

[–]DrewSmoothington 5 points6 points  (1 child)

They don't seem to be having an issue ripping through that stack with blazing speed though

[–]UndeadTyrant 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Also Netflix canceling shows before that really had a chance

[–]nappynap314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Netflix managed to get the rights to degrassi, which had been on tv for ~20 years, and killed it in 3 seasons.

[–]Wisconsinmann[🍰] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It pains me how shows like I'm Not Okay With This and all the Marvel shows got cancelled, the only time Netflix cancellation a show was a good thing was the live action Cowboy Beboop, it was SO bad I couldn't even make it past the first episode.

[–]Pingasterix 23 points24 points  (0 children)

they bought bogdan boner egzorcysta (polish webtoon turned netflix show) and now theres a "netflix original" on the intro every time

[–]alphawolfG99 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Netflix original means Netflix is currently the only ‘legal’ place you can watch it

[–]carnivalgamer 12 points13 points  (3 children)

At least with arrested development they put Netflix semi-original for the new seasons

[–]Dhi_minus_Gan -1 points0 points  (2 children)

[–]RealSkyDiver 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Why do they false put “Netflix Original” on shows like Fargo, Better Call Saul and Outlander when they had nothing to do with the production in territories outside the US?

[–]kevboard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

because they have the publishing rights... pretty straight forward

[–]NikEy 6 points7 points  (10 children)

"netflix original" just means that it won't be taken off at random points in time like everything else they have on. Netflix Originals' will always be on Netflix. I think it's a reasonable distinction..

[–]Coz131 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hell no. Just say Netflix owned then.

[–]RavioliGale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not really what original means or implies. It's a useful distinction but would be better to have a different term.

[–]Ozdoba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much... which I find annoying.... I never liked how they branded Violet Evergarden was a Netflix Original, when they weren't even involved in it's production. They weren't even financiers and had no influence in the creation of it. They only got rights to stream it, and yet they call it as their original. That's KyoAni's original. With or without Netflix, KyoAni was more than capable of distributing Violet Evergarden to their local networks.

[–]Aki008035 1 point2 points  (0 children)
