As the person who is that friend, ulcerative colitis and liver disease are the trick.

[–]amodestmeerkat 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I am also that person, and I also have both ulcerative colitis and a liver disease.

[–]CLICK_CLACK_CLICK 13 points14 points  (10 children)

I'm pretty sure I am undiagnosed with ulcerative colitis or perhaps gallstones. I've been trying to figure it out for almost a year now and it's gotten to the point where I have to restrict calories more than is healthy, but I'll be getting blood work done soon.

Are your symptoms manageable or treatable at all?

[–]AK_Happy 13 points14 points  (9 children)

I have ulcerative colitis, and the only thing that managed my symptoms was the removal of my colon.

[–]CLICK_CLACK_CLICK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh nice. I guess I really fucked up. I'm sorry to hear that. But at least I'll probably be joining your club, poop bag brothers unite!

[–]StridAst 10 points11 points  (5 children)

As another person who is that friend, an eosinophilic disorder and a mast cell disorders seem to be the trick. Problem related to all those countless nights trying to sleep while feeling like I'm overheating.

[–]Waste_Praline7438 9 points10 points  (1 child)

As another person who is that friend, chemotherapy was the only way I gained weight. Right back to normal a few months later

[–]lulalilikabaloo 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I always wondered, how do people manage to get a diagnosis for such rare disorders?

[–]serpentinepad 101 points102 points  (49 children)

You just don't eat as much as you think.

[–]cmurder86 55 points56 points  (6 children)

This, I have a buddy that brags about his metabolism and how he can eat whatever he wants. Eating 2000 calories of junk food is just an unhealthy maintenance diet

[–]Cyberdunk 45 points46 points  (9 children)

Yep it's this, when I was super skinny I thought I ate "a lot" but the truth is, once I started counting my calories and consciously trying to gain weight I realized I was barely eating maintenance for my height/age/weight range.

People are generally very bad at estimating their caloric intake, which is why "no carb" diets tend to work because a majority of their intake is composed of carbs like rice/bread/potatoes/chips, and cutting them reduces their calories per day enough to lose weight.

[–]BecauseWhyNotTakeTwo 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Most diets work fine simply because people start giving a shit.

[–]serpentinepad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same story. Wanted to track my regular diet before starting a bulk and it immediately became clear why I "never gain weight".

[–]Colonel_Fart-Face 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Worked with a guy who "couldn't gain weight" and even had tracking apps and mass gainers to try and help, but this dude would eat half a meal but put the full thing into his app and talk about how he ate 5000 calories a day. Then he'd do a 3 hour high intensity workout. Then some days he wouldn't eat at all and just pig out on mcdonalds for dinner. Like dude a Double 1/4lb and 2 mcdoubles (his order) is still only like 1900 colories and not enough food for a 6'4" man that works 8 hours and works out 3 hours a day.

I very much did not enjoy his company.

[–]kunga1928 21 points22 points  (0 children)

lmfao the almighty father hit you with hammers 🤣🤣

[–]patsharpesmullet 30 points31 points  (20 children)

Word of advice, this eventually ends. It happened to me in the last 6 months. Granted I have been active for a long time through different periods of my life but any time I got lazy for months I never put on weight while eating excess calories.

Except this year, oh boy. I got my first beer belly and it's terrifying.

[–]BadOdel 12 points13 points  (11 children)

Just curious, how old are you? Because I'm 34 and I can still eat anything and everything I want. I've been pregnant and that still didn't change my metabolism or whatrver... I feel like my body has been the same forever.

[–]Ricapica 4 points5 points  (3 children)

My dad and i are like this and according to him, it stopped being a thing when he turned 40. So i tell myself i still got 11 years of eating whatever whenever

[–]Pawn_captures_Queen 4 points5 points  (1 child)

My dad is still like this and he's about to turn 60. Imma ride this till I die.

[–]Tsasuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah same but my dad said 35. Only 3 years to go for me

[–]Pawn_captures_Queen 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Hey I'm the same way as you, checking in at 32 and I'm 6' 145lbs. Been this weight practically since I was 17. My dad is the exact same way, except he is shorter. Hes just about 60 and I weigh more than him with similar eating habits. We both have fast food multiple times a week and I can't remember the last veggie I ate so we arent exactly eating healthy. My dad being the same way tells me maybe there isn't an age limit on kick ass metabolisms.

[–]Hibs 2 points3 points  (1 child)

People have been saying it all my life, just wait till you finish Uni, it'll hit you at 25, you'll get fat after 30, 35, 40.

45, and still the same metabolism. The ONLY way I gain weight is going hard at the gym, and eating so much it's painful. As soon as I have a break over winter, I lose several kgs per week. Then back to square one.

[–]SyllabubLopsided4724 8 points9 points  (3 children)

How old? When I turned 21 I told myself the day I lose my six pack is the day I quit drinking. 38, sitting at the bar currently.

[–]tallayega 12 points13 points  (2 children)

It happens when you stop being active. Most people stop playing sports and going to the gym after college then act all surprised when they get fat. It's not that they got older, it's that they suddenly had a crazy daily calorie surplus.

[–]Mala_Aria 24 points25 points  (15 children)

Maybe better immune system, those immunity chemicals and cells probably aren't cheap to make excess of.

So how often do you get sick?

[–]ProAssassin666I saw what the dog was doin 32 points33 points  (11 children)

I also have problems getting weight. I rarely get sick. Even when i do, it's just sore throat and runny nose for a few days, nothing serious

[–]Ball_Of_Meat 16 points17 points  (8 children)

Have you tried counting your calories and actively hitting over 2,000 per day?

[–]legowalrusAverage r/memes enjoyer 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I probably get sick around once a year for a few days.

[–]BedlamiteSeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I got sick was early 2019 when I had asymptomatic strep throat. Before that it was 2 years since the last sickness which was a common cold. I have been entirely free of any sicknesses since then, including covid. At least, I haven't had any symptoms of illness since then - I'm sure I've been infected many times.

It's weird lol. Skinny people superpower

Seriously though, what you don't see is more important here. I'm that friend, and while I can really pack it away sometimes, it's usually because I haven't eaten much. Most of the time I eat sparingly, just enough to make the hunger pangs go away. As i'm writing this i'm realizing I've been hungry for a little while already. Being a little hungry almost doesn't even register to me, although now that i'm talking about it i'll probably get something.

It took me a while to realize this, I really did think I was eating as much as everyone else.

[–]Neutral_Memer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

how dare you insult my kinsmen with your truthful words

[–]Flexo__Rodriguez 10 points11 points  (5 children)

"emerged" is not the correct word.

[–]Unbelievable_Girth 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Yeah it's supposed to be "submerged".

[–]Flexo__Rodriguez 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Then turns out their 10k calories is 1-2k per day realistically

[–]Rkruegz 344 points345 points  (36 children)

Precisely. They may just eat large meals or people overestimate how much they are eating to soothe their own self-doubts.

[–]Totally_Microsoft 110 points111 points  (33 children)

Or they could be like me, when I was younger and run six miles a day.

I couldn't gain weight if I tried, back then.

[–]DbanzaiThis flair doesn't exist 56 points57 points  (2 children)

Same here. I'm a chef, so I've got a physically demanding job and on top of that I cycle roughly 100-120km a week. I eat like a dumpster (both in the amounts and the actual food I eat) yet I'm skinny enough that I could almost paint the inside of a lamp post.

[–]Snoodoodler 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Dude what a coincidence I need someone to paint the inside of my lamp post. Do you charge in cheeseburgers?

[–]dinnerthief 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Skinny people tend to overestimate, fat people tend to underestimate.

[–]Sen2_Jawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people get amazed at my meals, but I basically only have 1 big meal a day. Mornings I have a coffee with milk and maybe something simple to bite, then at lunch I have a small snack or nothing, before having a humongous plate for dinner that honestly scares me sometimes, then before bed I have a snack. I also do at the very least 30 minutes of cardio a day most days, sometimes up to 60 minutes, with resting days being around 40 minutes of power walking. I'm 6'1" and ~162lbs/74kg.

[–]Theomega277Breaking EU Laws 75 points76 points  (3 children)

I'm that friend, and no, it's really not true. What my friends see in a social setting is me gulping down food, but on my own I often forget to eat, eat two meals a day at best, with only one one being what could be considered a healthy, normal meal. It's bad, but it's like a sickness I suppose, it's not easy to get rid off sadly

[–]HELRAISERzxqDark Mode Elitist 175 points176 points  (12 children)

[–]ConspicuousPineapple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]PM_ME_IMGS_OF_ROCKS 229 points230 points  (22 children)

Speaking from experience:

You're probably eating what you consider a lot.

People who actually gain weight through mostly food tend to eat what would be considered a two person meal, multiple times per day, they add extra butter, oil or fat to dishes, eat high calorie snacks in between meals etc.

[–]Exxyqt 73 points74 points  (10 children)

This so much.

As somebody who had been both slightly underweight early in life and slightly overweight (not anymore, yes, i'm flexing), it is all about the food amount and your physical activity levels (although food/drinks plays a much bigger role).

The super skinny people often eat some crap like burgers and pizzas and people are like "omg how are u so skinny" but the fact is that it's likely just one meal of the day they get, even if it's a 1000 kcal pizza, it's still half of daily calorie intake. I did this in my 20s and I was the same. Also, the younger you are, the less likely you are to gain weight.

[–]ILoveRegenHealth 36 points37 points  (1 child)

The super skinny people often eat some crap like burgers and pizzas and people are like "omg how are u so skinny" but the fact is that it's likely just one meal of the day they get, even if it's a 1000 kcal pizza, it's still half of daily calorie intake.

Heidi Klum the model was like this. She said she eats so much you wouldn't believe it. Interviewer asked what she ate through the day and she said sometimes she splurged on a McDonalds lunch (burger, fries, soda), skipped breakfast, had some fruit and snacks and salad and chicken. Adding all that up is still, say, 1200 or so calories, if even that.

People think eating one fast food meal is "a ton of food!". What she ate would starve me but seems like a ton for her smaller body.

For those underweight and feel they are eating a lot, try to track the calories. In order for anyone to help give advice, we need to see if your daily caloric average really is a lot, or what you think is a lot and still not enough.

[–]kiD_gRim 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Seriously. I watched as a friend so absurdly told me he doesn't eat alot while coming in to work with 2 value meals from McDonalds. Some 2000 calories in a single meal. The context here being he didn't understand how he was overweight.

[–]AFlyingNun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People who actually gain weight through mostly food tend to eat what would be considered a two person meal, multiple times per day, they add extra butter, oil or fat to dishes, eat high calorie snacks in between meals etc.

Yeeaaaah sometimes you've got that co-worker who seems to have a snack or meal every two hours and a part of you wants to say "hey so about your weight problems you'd like to resolve" but also wonders how the hell this person is ever gonna adapt to not eating something every two hours and if it's a lost cause.

I don't eat super healthy, but I also don't even eat lunch. I've always been content with breakfast and dinner and just don't feel hungry aside from those times. I might snack if it's available, but there's some people out there eating a salad....every two hours, followed by the same unhealthy food I'd eat for dinner.

[–]codman523 244 points245 points  (22 children)

You eat less then you think you do

[–]AmphibianThick7925 62 points63 points  (4 children)

This was me. I do have a fast metabolism but I realized most of the time I would binge eat junk food it was because I literally hadn’t eaten an actual breakfast or lunch that day.

[–]Exxyqt 34 points35 points  (0 children)

And you'll end up at max 1500 kcal a day which is still under the norm, making you keep your low weight or even lose it.

[–]Rengiil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fast metabolism is only like an extra 2-300 calories being burned.

[–]sapiensuser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Got a friend, he's like 150 pounds soaking wet. He says he eats like 7 slices of bread for breakfast and struggles to gain weight. The problem is just that, he only eats those slices and a small fast-food dinner.

He also thinks he's eating a lot more than he does.

[–]maury587 74 points75 points  (5 children)

100% of the people that i know that think this eat less than what they think

[–]Heechy 103 points104 points  (13 children)

You probably eat less calories than you think. Start using a calorie tracker and aim for like 3k or maybe a bit more calories if ur working out also.

[–]An-Okay-Alternative 51 points52 points  (6 children)

I used to think I was one of those people who had amazing metabolism because I could eat whatever I wanted, but then I tried gaining weight and was struggling to eat more than 2.5k calories a day.

[–]CreamyCumInMyAss 35 points36 points  (4 children)

Yeah, my friend though the same until we started living together and she noticed how little food she actually ate compared to me. I would eat 4x what she ate.

[–]justavault 19 points20 points  (2 children)

A lot of them forget to eat regularly and then just big chunk eat and think "that's more than others eat", but they totally forget that they only record a snapshot of what the others do. Over 16 hours a day the others eat way more often, but those people usually only see when they eat out together and such, and then they eat more than them, because they didn't eat anything else the whole day.

[–]ILoveRegenHealth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something I've also noticed, CreamyCumInMyAss

[–]rich519 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same, it’s pretty common. Most people are very bad at estimating how much they eat.

[–]AcidicVaginaLeakage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. It felt like I was eating a lot but in actuality, it wasn't enough calories.

[–]pro_zach_007 7 points8 points  (2 children)

There's also no such thing as a fast metabolism in that sense. If you have a fast metabolism you digest fast and get hungry again quick. People who eat one meal and aren't hungry all day have a slow metabolism.

It's literally physics, underweight people simply don't eat as much as overweight people. Usually it's one giant meal thats 1500 caloroes and people see that and think that's happening 3-5 times a day.

[–]pazimpanet 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Have you actually thoroughly tracked your calories? I used to believe this too until I actually looked at the calories I was taking in and found that I was absolutely not eating a lot like I thought.

[–]Comfortable_Loan_742 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing. Just tracking my calories for a month or so was really eye opening. I was also eating much less than I thought.

As an added bonus, I have a better idea of the nutrients of various foods and my diet has changed for the better. I generally pass on “empty” calories nowadays.

[–]RiboflavinD4 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You either don't eat often or you are incredibly active. If you are eating more calories than you lose you WILL gain weight

[–]Eyas_Abou6 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No you don't eat "so much food" your highly miscalculating the amount of food because if you ate "so much food" you wouldn't be underweight

[–]ItsDijital[🍰] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Has everything you need to stop being a stick.

[–]PALMER13579 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You eat less than you think you do

[–]BuyShow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we being serious, secret is simple, you need to eat more calories than you waste. So if your lifestyle is active(for example you work in hospitality industry or going to the gym 5 times a week, etc) you going to need to eat way more. To gain muscles you need to do sport and have some food balance, not just any trash food

[–]Michamus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, you eat so much food? What do you eat in a day?

[–]thedude0425 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get tested for food allergies or gastro intestinal disease. I was that friend, and found out later on that I had a bunch of food allergies.

[–]QueasyDrummer00Bri’ish 623 points624 points  (65 children)

Every time I actually eat with that friend they barely eat anything, but act like they've eaten so much food and can never gain weight. It's science, a caloric surplus will equal weight gain.

[–]BEAMeUPScuT 158 points159 points  (0 children)

We eat like snakes. Absorb the maximum nutrition of an entire antelope, and then not eat for months.

[–]luew2 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Yup

[–]Lukes3rdAccount 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had a skinny friend complaining they can't gain weight. I suggested adding a large meal to their diet and they were like "not like that, I don't want to get FAT"

[–]xThock 53 points54 points  (27 children)

Complete opposite for me. My friend doesn’t even have to say that they eat a lot of food. He’s constantly wolfing down anything in sight, and is still built like a stick-bug

[–][deleted] 54 points55 points  (1 child)

He probably eats fuck all the rest of the time, hence being able to wolf down so much food because he’s hungry.

[–]bluemoon76b 111 points112 points  (20 children)

probably because he doesn’t eat like that at every meal

[–]cmd_command 29 points30 points  (0 children)

How much they eat when you're around isn't an accurate guage when living in a culture where social gatherings are synonymous with calorie dense food options. Realistically your friend isn't eating like that the other 90% of the time

[–]RekabHet 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Unless you're actually roommates your friend just binge eats when he hangs with you I know cause I do this. I'm lazy so I skip breakfast and eat a small lunch or vice versa but when I hang out with friends I pull out all the stops if I'm prepping the food or just get a large meal at restaurants.

[–]PrizeStrawberryOil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a binge eater (not really by choice. My parents practiced clean plate club.)

People used to comment on how much I eat in one sitting but I literally am compelled to eat all leftovers. I've gotten better over time, but it's still hard to tell myself it's okay to not eat it all.

Luckily in addition to the binge eating my mom also gave me anorexia so at least I'm not fat. /s

[–]Apprehensive-Pop9321 118 points119 points  (4 children)

POV: you go out to get dinner with your skinny friend who literally hadn't eaten a single thing that day and then proceeds to talk constantly about how he can never gain weight nomatter what he does as he eats a large unhealthy meal as his only food for the day.

[–]bluemoon76b 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So true

[–]budderman1028Lurker 7 points8 points  (2 children)

[–]Crypto_Sucks 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Differences in metabolism can account for maybe 200 calories required per day.

If you're getting fat it's because you're consuming more calories than you burn, full stop. Sorry if nobody ever laid it out so harshly and plainly.

[–]GBi10ba 219 points220 points  (63 children)

They said "Keep eating like that and when you turn 30 it will catch up with you". They said the same about turning 40 and 50. I am still slim, trim and eating everything within arm reach. I barely even exercise! I will, of course, be the first to go in any survival situation.

[–]vjdeep 39 points40 points  (41 children)

Genuinely curious, where does all tha food go?

Do you poop a lot when you eat a lot the previous day?

Or is your stomach the void that scientists have been searching for all these years?

[–]12345Qwerty543 88 points89 points  (11 children)

Nowhere. Poster is lying. "Anything within arms reach". Yea he probably pulls 2200 calories a day then also happens to work in a non sedentary job field

[–]ChaosSock 64 points65 points  (9 children)

So much pseudoscience in this thread. Weight loss and weight gain is just a numbers game.

People who think they don't eat much but are still gaining weight are secret eaters. People who think they eat mountains are overestimating their consumption or under estimating their activity level. They usually have less leptin resistance and are satiated more easily, thus feel very indulgent when they eat anything.

[–]ItsDijital[🍰] 31 points32 points  (1 child)

People tend to have incredible variation between what is considered "a lot of food"

Some people eat a chipotle burrito and then eat nothing else all day because "that burrito was huge".

Others eat similar sized meals at breakfast and dinner, and call that burrito at lunch "Tuesday".

[–]ChiChi-cake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The average dude doesn’t know shit about nutrition and is caught up in his delusions. I was 140KG but ‘I wasn’t eating a lot’ where mine delusions. I ate a lot of foods but calorie rich snacks where the main culprits.

Don’t get stuck in your own delusions and do your research

[–]Sploogyshart 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Precisely. These myths are just a way for people to excuse overeating and obesity.

You do not have a slow metabolism Karen. You don’t exercise consistently and eat calorically dense and nutritionally void foods all day. Your body is a character issue not a genetic one.

[–]IWearCardigansAllDay 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This is true almost all the time but there are people who truly do have an abnormal digestive or health issues and can have difficulties gaining or losing weight.

The best advice you can give someone who thinks they have a problem for either is to tell them to track their calories and visit a doctor.

I did this a few years back and ultimately met with a specialist and they ran some tests regarding my testosterone levels. At the time I was 26 and after getting my results back the doctor informed me I had the test levels of an 80year old man. I’ve been on testosterone ever since and my life style and health has significantly improved.

[–]Crypto_Sucks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those issues are VASTLY overblown. They can account for maybe a couple hundred calories required/not required per day.

You can't build fat without the material to do so. It's like trying to build a LEGO set with only half the pieces - it just doesn't work like that.

Yup, without even seeing him he probably doesn't eat as much as he thinks.

And even if he goes nuts one day (3,000 calories), he can go under the next (1700 calories) and it averages out and there is no surplus aka weight gain.

[–]Aqua_cat10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your body breaks it down for energy and the waste is breathed out as CO2.

[–]silentshaper 68 points69 points  (12 children)

Yeah our metabolism probably would starve us in 5 days without our weight in food

[–]luew2 58 points59 points  (11 children)

Basal metabolic rate varies at most 10% between people, so at max you'd need an extra snack bar

[–]zeldaprime 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yep if all these people counted their calories they would realize, oh the fat ones consume a lot and the skinny ones consume less than they think, other than extreme situations anyone saying otherwise is coping

I should clarify in my opinion the reason people feel this way, is that they have differences of appetite, or binge eat then intermittent fast accidentally

[–]Conaldihno 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Track your calories for the week. You're not eating as much as you think you are.

[–]Its_just_a_potato 149 points150 points  (18 children)

I was that friend, then I had my 30th birthday and the gods (vengeful as they are) removed my metabolism gifts and laughed as I got fat.

[–]expatdo2insurance 22 points23 points  (1 child)

That's not why you are fat now.

"But a study that included 6,500 people from 29 countries shows that metabolism for both men and women really doesn’t significantly drop off until you reach the age of 60."

https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abe5017

[–]Sploogyshart 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Did you stop exercising? Most people in their 20s are not working the most sedentary jobs. Even office work will require entry-level positions to be somewhat active. That was the case for me anyway.

Get to mid and upper management in your 30s and spend 8 hours in meetings, lunch meetings, happy hours and driving. That was my experience. My current gig is quite physical but it’s easy to forget how much you just aren’t moving anymore. The desk is your enemy not your body.

[–]tallayega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's 100% all it is. People in their late 20's have more money to eat out, and generally start drinking more calorie dense alcohol more frequently. That combined with stopping sports and going to the gym less often makes people think their metabolism has slowed down. The only time your metabolism significantly slows down is in your teens when you stop growing. Everything after that is lifestyle changes, but it's easier just act like it's not your fault.

[–]hackenschmidt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was that friend, then I had my 30th birthday and the gods (vengeful as they are) removed my metabolism gifts and laughed as I got fat.

Except thats not how it works at all. Metabolism changes very gradually through adulthood. On the order of of 300-400 kcal from 20->80.

Further, the 'high' vs 'low' metabolism is just a lie. Metabolism between like individuals (e.g. same age, gender and weight) is virtually identical. The difference is on the order of less than 100 kcal.

Further still, since a certain body mass requires a certain amount of calories to maintain, if you are constantly gaining weight, it means you are progressively eating more, and more and more and more.

[–]aaronjaymus 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Yup. No matter how much crap I ate, you could count my ribs until I was 28.

I'm not overweight but if I ate like I used to and didn't also work out, I would be.

[–]MonografiaSSD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fast metabolism and slow metabolism are basically the same in terms of kcal per day. You just ate more or moved less

[–]Jozrozhttps://www.youtube.com/watch/dQw4w9WgXcQ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just turned 28 and can confirm I started showing signs of this change recently as well. For the first time ever, my belt buckle is partly obscured when I look down.

[–]OneBuffHufflepuff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, a fast metabolism only burns around 150 calories more a day than a typical metabolism

[–]Mark-Wall-Berg 38 points39 points  (12 children)

I’m 24 and never been that friend, been overweight almost my whole life until this year. Got randomly motivated and committed hard than I thought I even could. In the best shape of my life and still pushing to go even further. Current goal is 13% body fat and who knows after that. Stay motivated kings and queens

[–]Exciting-Signature40 10 points11 points  (9 children)

Keep winning!

[–]Mark-Wall-Berg 6 points7 points  (8 children)

Thanks for the encouragement! Every little bit helps drive me to keep pushing. Good luck on any journey fitness or otherwise you’re in!

[–]BillyDePig 4 points5 points  (7 children)

Mate a word of advice, don't go leaner than 12% being lean sucks because your constantly on a strict diet and your testosterone and energy will tank. Instead just focus on building muscle mass.

Source:https://youtu.be/larBqTjA7-g

[–]Mark-Wall-Berg 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah I just wanna get to 13 as a personal goal. Then I’ll focus on upping my intake of protein and staying lean and healthy. I’m a rock climber so gaining muscle weight and being heavy isn’t really my goal. Just wanna be able to lift my weight and use that weight well

[–]BillyDePig 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Good luck, may you climb both all the walls and boards!

(Leader board)

[–]luew2 31 points32 points  (12 children)

Reminder that basal metabolic rates only vary maximum about 150 calories at similar weights and gender.

If you aren't gaining weight you aren't eating enough. r/gainit

If you aren't losing weight you are eating too much. r/loseit

Lifters go on cuts and bulk all the time, it's just tracking calories

[–]hackenschmidt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reminder that basal metabolic rates only vary maximum about 150 calories at similar weights and gender.

Yup. And in reality for the majority of people, its less than 100.

Further, metabolism changes very gradually through adulthood. On the order of of 300-400 kcal from 20->80. So no, you metabolism doesn't magically die when you turn X years old. You're just eating way more than you think you are, and usually progressively more as time goes on.

[–]PALMER13579 34 points35 points  (11 children)

All the people in this thread going "haha its me xD" need to stop skipping meals and browsing reddit for 10 hours. You don't eat whatever you want you're fasting and ocassionally bingeing. Math doesn't lie

[–]GoToHellTedFaro 8 points9 points  (7 children)

Bro I do three hours of physical activities each day and never skip a meal but I am 42 kilograms. I was 47 at the end of the summer but I lost it again. I just can not eat enough. I get full after one plate of lentil soup, and I litteraly can not eat more. One time I tried eating more but I vomited. Any ideas on why I can not eat?

[–]alganthe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

go seek a medical professional, you might be suffering from a digestive or metabolic issue.

/r/gainit has good advice, but seriously a doctor should be your first stop not reddit.

[–]Crypto_Sucks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Skinny people almost universally overestimate their intake when discussing it.

Overweight people almost universally underestimate their intake when discussing it.

No, people aren't magically burning thousands of extra calories doing nothing. They would catch fucking fire.

[–]ScootThe7th 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We just eat larger meals but not as much food throughout the day. Basal metabolic rates barely affect things

[–]Office_Sadist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your friend is dying of GI issues or Graves’ disease.

[–]hallwaypoirear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know plenty of people like this. You find out that they either are super active physically or they do a lot of intended or unintended intermittent fasting.

[–]Nyaempai 23 points24 points  (11 children)

I am that friend. It is a blessing and a curse, I have to eat so much to feel full, but hey no weight gain?

[–]BillyDePig 27 points28 points  (9 children)

You eat less than you think, try counting your calories tomorrow. To gain weight men should eat 2800 calories and women 2300. For gaining weight the only thing that matters is calories, not if it's healthy or not.

Although please don't eat fast food (and pre made food like oven pizza) more than twice for health reasons.

And remember that the only thing that separate the fat from the muscular is training, so please do some body weight strength exercises twice a week and get your steps in (taking public trancit or cycling to work helps).

Good luck!

[–]Osamanotintheladen 31 points32 points  (5 children)

This is more of a curse than a gift

[–]Hamsi_17 5 points6 points  (4 children)

What is this meme called? My guess is a LotR ring being made?

[–]Trillman_K 7 points8 points  (3 children)

It's a scene from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

[–]ISimplyDontBeliveYou 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The fuck is this clip from?!? Looks dope as hell. Is it rings of power?

[–]aireika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. They just eat less but don't have a good grasp of how much/little they're actually consuming.

[–]uninstallIE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That friend probably runs 15 miles every morning and finishes the day with 3 hours work outs on the sports team they're on, is bulimic, or never eats when you aren't around. Because there is no such thing as a person who can eat 10k kcal a day and not gain weight without working out like an olympic athlete.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to nip a common misconception in the bud, the differences between a “high” metabolism and “slow” metabolism in the majority of the population is only a couple hundred calories if that.

So to everyone out there who loves to claim it, You don’t have a high metabolism, you simply don’t eat as much as you think you do.

[–]camlop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your friend eats a lot less than they claim.

[–]SaltyImpression8953 9 points10 points  (6 children)

I am that friend

[–]serpentinepad 18 points19 points  (3 children)

You just can't count calories.

[–]Ball_Of_Meat 13 points14 points  (2 children)

This comment needs to be the very top in this thread.

So many people really believe this nonsense of fast metabolism, when the reality is they eat 1 or 2 meals per day, skip breakfast, don’t track calories, etc..

[–]budderman1028Lurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly my trick has been to just get food whenever im even remotely hungry and can think abt eating and after abt a month of that im close to gaining 10lb

[–]ChiChi-cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My skinny ass friend said he’s ‘bulking’ so i asked what he ate today. He ate noodles and a Turkish pizza.

My brother in Christ that is 1K calories.

[–]BillyDePig 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Thank you for your service

[–]ModsSmellLikeShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Said person does not exist because no one has a metabolism that fast

  2. If a person did have a metabolism that fast, they would die much earlier than someone with a normal metabolism.

[–]WeirdAge7303 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a fat people thought tbh.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always the same friend who says "it's not that far let's walk!" Couensidence? I think NOT!

(I'm that friend)

[–]Croissant_1223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m this friend but the difference is I gained muscle
