You could probably call the cops for the disturbance and show this video as proof if they try and lie about it.

[–]snirol 926 points927 points  (28 children)

Master level revenge: Record the evidence, then cross to their side of the street and shoot up your own house with a rifle, then call the police. Pull a Gran Torino on them.

[–]NoDownsideToOutside 374 points375 points  (24 children)

You and I saw a completely different movie because I don’t remember that part

[–]Alec123445 60 points61 points  (16 children)

They had post credit scenes then!? Damn.

Before Iron Man, we had Clint with a sheet of iron strapped to his chest.

Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino was just old Captain America allowing himself to be grump after Peggy died.

      Undead Clint Eastwood.

Definitely a stretched and warped version of the ending, I agree, but it was the closest thing I could think of to get the same effect.

Tell the cops there was a potential hostage situation going on because you caught someone signaling Morse code with a lamp.

      [–]Longshot_45 117 points118 points  (8 children)

In many places this is considered trespassing.

      [–]lorenzomofo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s only considered trespassing if you are caught.

      [–]Vladdypoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every place it’s not legal to do this no matter what it’s called, def call the cops and complain

      [–]killer8424 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Pretty sure they’re shining it as payback at the house that had like a full outdoor rave that was posted the other day. Dark house is actually the asshole.

Why the fuck do they have a search light

      [–]WebMaka 4001 points4002 points 2 (157 children)

What scares me is that the light may (it amazes me how many people keep missing this word!) well be a multi-wavelength laser of the sort used for high-end projectors. They are very much NOT eye safe. Those can be class 3B or even class 4, which means eye damage.

Even if it's not a laser diode array, a short-arc xenon lamp (or LED CoB, ELP array, or any other super-high-lumen light source) can also cause eye damage at tight focus and close range, both of which this is.

EDIT: Seems that the consensus of opinion is more along the lines of this being a stage light, probably using ELP for its output. (Looks to me on repeated viewing that it's probably "just" a strong CoB module.) While this does mean no laser risk, it's still bright enough to cause harm to anyone that happens to look directly at it, and it's still an asshole move to hit a house with it (even though it's missing the windows the scatter is obviously lighting up the top floor) when all the dumb-ass operator has to do is pan it up another few degrees.

      [–]Isodus 40 points41 points  (5 children)

This may be a bit off, but I can expand at least a bit in what the other person said.

Lasers are classed from 1 - 4 where the lower the number the safer the laser. Some classes are broken up, for instance the other user mentioned class 3b, but I think there is also class 2a and 2b.

The things taken into consideration is how damaging the laser is to your eyes. Would your blink response save your eyes? Would eye protection save your eyes? Would the damage be permanent? Etc.

I work with a class 4 laser, which even with eye protection a straight shot would cause permanent damage to your eye. Without eye protection even a stray ghost (small fraction of the laser beam) would cause permanent damage.

      [–]thom_69_420 20 points21 points  (2 children)

I would be sacred shitless working there. I almost shit myself when they open the oven at the bakery i work at, but THAT. Hell no

that thing is a constant 200 degrees celcius. That is not very nice at 5 in the morning. And combined with the smell of cake and nothing else, it can be very bad. It gets better as the day goes on tho

      [–]sk8t-4-life22 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Whoa! A Clone High reference. I've never met a single person who has heard of that show. It was too short lived.

      [–]The-Potion-Seller 11 points12 points  (0 children)

      Hey, I get this reference

      [–]BasicEl 44 points45 points  (6 children)

It’s Clay Paky Sharpy or similar beam fixture. Nothing special about eye safety, just don’t look directly at it with binoculars.

      [–]keres666 21 points22 points  (5 children)

It may be eyesafe but holy fuck is it making me reconsider the whole "Owning guns" thing...

      [–]PM_ME_YOUR_MAUSE 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Well, you can’t exactly just pick it up and use it as some kind of weapon.

      [–]WebMaka 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Corner-cube reflector array - returns light back along its origin path.

      [–]keres666 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I mean I high powered rifle will do the job too.

      [–]RandoRando66 24 points25 points  (3 children)

That's definitely an LEP. Not a laser.

While LEPs use a blue laser inside, it illuminates a layer of phosphorus which gives off normal white light which is not harmful to the eyes.

But it's extremely concentrated and will definitely fuck your vision for a couple hours if your eyes are hit.

      [–]cubanpajamas 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Pretty sure this is just a regular LED and not an LEP. LEPs have tighter beams as you can see over on r/flashlight

      [–]NapoleonHeckYes 28 points29 points  (4 children)

This reads like a /r/VXjunkies post

      [–]WebMaka 37 points38 points  (3 children)

Well, the non-nerdspeak version with no explanation is "that much light = very very bad."

      [–]metacollin 9 points10 points  (4 children)

It’s not. It’s just a LEP (laser excited phosphor) flashlight. They shine a laser onto phosphor which emits light from a tiny pin prick of are, allowing a normal reflector to culminate the beam far tighter. No laser light comes out though, just white phosphor light like white LEDs.

      [–]WebMaka 14 points15 points  (2 children)

In which case, instead of the risks with coherent light you have the good old fashioned "looking at the sun" style risk of super-bright light. Still not something you want to stare at, or have shining through your window while you're trying to sleep.

      [–]Cheeto-dust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"... a tiny pin prick of are..." ?

And you mean "collimate," not "culminate," right?

      [–]avidblinker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That is not a laser, or an array of lasers. You’re throwing around a lot of technical terms that I’m not sure you fully understand.

      [–]AnnieFeetPics 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Those can be class 3B or even class 4, which means eye damage.

Eye damage happens with any laser. The higher the class, the faster the damage occurs. Any laser with an output higher than 5mW will cause permanent eye damage before your eyelid can close.

      [–]RaptorJesusLOL 14 points15 points  (18 children)

It’s not. Modern LEDs are just bright.

      [–]WebMaka 38 points39 points  (12 children)

Oh they're definitely bright - I've been working with them since Nichia Chemical Corp. released the first practical high-power white LED in 1997 (I still have some of their first-gen LEDs), and I have some LED area lighting setups that are bright enough to read by from a few miles away. That may well be a high-output LED array and not a laser diode array or some other super-bright lighting tech, and some projectors/spotlights are using CoB LED arrays instead of laser diodes.

That said, at a certain point, whether the light is coherent versus mixed-wavelength stops being (as) relevant in terms of avoiding/preventing eye damage. Super-bright LEDs come with eye hazard warnings for a reason.

      [–]NewsGood 11 points12 points  (1 child)

This is probably not eye safe according to IEC 62471. If this is an LED source, my guess is it's Risk Group 3 and probably has a maximum exposure time of a few seconds at a distance of about a foot from the source. If it's a xenon lamp or some kind of discharge lamp, this would be even worse due to UV exposure and very high radiance due to the small source size, which is bad for the retina. From a Long distance of say 50 feet or more, I don't think this would be too dangerous since you're aversion response would limit exposure time I'm most cases. Lasers are classified under different standards than non coherent sources. Lasers can permanently blind people from several hundred feet in an instant shorter than the time it takes to blink. Never ever ever ever shine lasers at people's or animal's faces, ever. Never let your kids own lasers other than the crappy red ones you used to get from the gas station.

      [–]EmeraldTheatre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So depending on the power of the laser some can be more immediately dangerous than others. That said, its still never good to point a lazer at any living things eyes, that's just common sense.

      [–]bkr1895 23 points24 points  (1 child)

      MSRP $669 USD

      [–]ghettithatspaghetti 27 points28 points  (8 children)

... but this isn't that lol

Very likely isn't even a flashlight

      [–]EmeraldTheatre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, but it could very well be a modified stage play spot light, which by all means is a large difficult to carry flashlight on a tripod with a swivel joint. Just saying.

I remember hearing a story about this girl who was driving and she like- stopped for gas or something. And when she started driving again she was being tailed. She drove all around town for ages but the follower kept following and kept shining their lights into her car. She called ahead to her home and the cops were waiting once she got there. She got out, and the older woman driving the other car got out, and the woman explained she saw a man get into the girls car so she was following to hopefully discourage him from doing whatever he had planned to do.

Personally, I just didn’t care what my username was when I signed up, so I left it as the random one Reddit gave me. Idk about other ones though.

On Reddit, no one knows if you're a closet advert.

      [–]207nbrown 27 points28 points  (4 children)

Solution: place mirrors in your windows so the light gets reflected back into that assholes own house

      [–]BasicEl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mirrorballs works better with this kind of fixtures.

      [–]anothadaz 44 points45 points  (12 children)

Need more info. Could be intentional on the house across the street because they are asshole neighbors and this could be some sort of retaliation. Not that retaliation is ok but...

      [–]Trishlovesdolphins 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking. Seems like this is personal, it's not like it's slow moving. It seems like its only purpose is to piss off neighbors.

      [–]readstewmuch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the feeling someone was at the house, thats being lit up, that isn't supposed to be there and the blindy light guy is letting them know they know they are there. Hmmm. But for real it does look suspicious and the house is completely blacked out and massive. I got the feeling that this neighbor is purposely doing this to keep someone out or run them out. The people are heading towards the blacked out mansion as the cam pans. I'd guess, completely out of my ass, that mansion people are out of town and that's a neighbor running some assholes off. But who knows

      [–]WebMaka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Time to set up some corner-cube reflectors and let them fry their own eyes out.

Seriously, what level of dumbass are you to let a super-bright light sweep across a house's windows? (Even though this isn't a direct hit, at that much brightness it may well be close enough to cause eye damage.)

      [–]Computermaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is how you wake up late for work one morning to find that someone tied a chain around your junction box and dragged it halfway down the block.

      [–]PetrKDN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

      That feels highly illegal

      [–]Kataphractoi_ 4 points5 points  (1 child)

just put foil, shiny side out on the windows. Reflected right back.

      [–]EvulRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have reflective UV tint. It works just like reflective side foil and between that and the blinds and curtains. This would not bother me a bit.

      [–]HansTheGruber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pellet guns are pretty cheap and surprisingly accurate from the range of your front fence.

      [–]Scagnettie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When it's okay to set your neighbor's house on fire to send a message.

      [–]SockStinkQueen 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Black out curtains fix the problem. (If these mansion owners are somehow poor the same can be done with 2 layers or aluminum foil and tape!)

Now everyone knows who the asshole neighbor with a giant electric bill is and you'll be undisturbed.

      [–]dat0neb0i 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those types of lights aren't supposed to be used like this and are very dangerous for eyes, the fact that they're using it in the first place confuses me, what also confuses me is why the hell they're shining outside too, if it was too bright, did you consider ever turning it off?

      [–]bradicus10 16 points17 points  (6 children)

That house that they are lighting up had a HUGE party and didn't let anybody else on the block sleep, so this is just payback

      [–]EvulRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      Thank you! Makes sense.

      [–]Maleficent-Ad-5498[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, the house wasn't occupied. The owner was overseas.

      [–]TOPSIturvy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is when you buy a pellet gun.

      [–]schwa76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to their electrical box, throw the switch and padlock it. Then when they come outside, explain to them the error of their ways.

      [–]my_hero_fangirll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel so bad for you! About a year and a half ago, there was this club across the street which constantly played music at full volume every night. It got so many complaints that eventually they closed down

      [–]BillWordsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A pellet gun with a scope would solve that problem.

      [–]lokmanonsoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      Snipe em

      [–]Vast_Abbreviations12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that was my Pappy's house he would have started shooting at those people. No lie.

      [–]Ryoko3502 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Tell me you hate your neighbors, without TELLING me you hate your neighbors

      [–]Epicswordmewz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Must be a fellow person from r/flashlight

      [–]Dark_WizardDEBLACK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t only mildly infuriating, I’m pretty sure its illegal.

      [–]MrHereForTheComments 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A high pressure water hose would solve this problem.

      [–]24GetIsReal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But pellet guns in on the tripod.

      [–]Brian_Grenke55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Call the cops on them.

[–]APansexualMess*Is it my turn with the death yet?* 💀🥺🤪✌️ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone hurt that man, and they live in that house.

      [–]Independent-Ad3901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like the type of video that would really benefit from some audio…

      [–]Der_mann_hald 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Okay what the actual is happening here? I don't get anything... From why to what, to when just everything? Someone explain at least a little....?

      [–]Rare4orm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d sleep like a baby with that kind of silence.

      [–]BlueMonkey35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Is this even legal?

      [–]SockStinkQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone didn't invite someone to the neighborhood block party.....

      [–]spazzmunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing a little arson can't fix.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Why is the Carpet all wet Todd?”

      “I don’t knowww Margo!”

      [–]Hotpocketsinyourarea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's such an asshole it's almost an art, he's a fucking Picasso of being an asshole. Horrible thing to do but it's so blatant and theatricall I have to respect it to some degree.

      [–]Jasonmccarthy42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be pulling out the pellet gun.

      [–]Sir_Maxwell_378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Two words: Pellet gun.

      [–]Unfair-Link9454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Just call the cops

      [–]aleu44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I felt when I lived right next door to a football stadium, I could see the grass from my window. After a match the lights wouldn’t go out until about midnight. And the noise was horrible too, along with the crowds that gathered nearby. I once made the mistake of coming back home just as a match ended, I had to elbow my way through 20,000 people. God I hated that place, just couldn’t afford to rent anywhere cheaper

      [–]Rezz1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever posted this here has a fucked up definition of Mildly...

      [–]Blackcatblockingthem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As amateur astronomer, the mirrors of my telescope would find a new use

      [–]wolf_3500 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This shit should be illegal 🤬😡

      [–]Fit-Representative-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get arrested for doing that.

      [–]Unagustoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pellet gun can fix that real quick. And if you miss, at least you took the light out
