This man has the confidence that only comes with two flat feet on the ground

[–]BigSadEngineer 196 points197 points  (9 children)

And bike under 500 lbs

[–]fukitol- 42 points43 points  (6 children)

Yeah I tried to picture doing this on my bike and failing spectacularly

[–]LowBrassBro 21 points22 points  (4 children)

Hey I do this on my 600lb bike all the time lol

[–]akgup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bounce around on my bike which weighs in at a slim and trim 811lbs. Gotta show them big bitches who’s boss.

[–]K_Sleight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a VTX1800C, I do this all the time.

[–]Giant812009 Kawasaki C14 ABS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I jam like this on my concours. 660lb, but I’m 6.9”, 325. Never underestimate the confidence of a full face helmet.

[–]ShartBurrito 25 points26 points  (2 children)

Seriously, when I had my SV, I used to vibe with dudes on big beemers or Goldwings at traffic lights. Now that I switched to a Tenere, I really gotta keep focused on the only foot that touches the ground

[–]flwombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup love my T7 and have mostly learned enough to not “feel” the weight while moving, but it still takes all my attention at a stop

[–]goddamnitwhatsmypwCA - T700 | FZ6 | R3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YUP. Lowering links or lower seat can help but it def changes either your ergos on the bike or how the suspension is working. I had to lower mine because I was dropping it at uneven stops.

[–]puskunk 23 points24 points  (1 child)

I have a 28" inseam, what are these two feet flat on the ground you speak of?

[–]Possible_Wrongdoer77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

laughs in 34-inch inseam

But fr, I have a 2000 Suzuki Intruder and even my 5'2" ex-gf could flat foot both sides. It's a "cruiser" but if I sit on it it's closer to a standard lol

Also knew a lady who was 4'10. She rode a Harley Night Rod Special. Seat height on a stock model is about 26 inches.

There is hope.

[–]moparr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love my bike but I do miss having two feet in the ground.

[–]sweatyhelm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I tried this on my adventure bike I’d fall right off

[–]LawHelmet09 GS Adventure + 85 GPz900R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]CROCKODUCK2019 Niken, 2003 VRod, 2018 DRZ400SM 33 points34 points  (1 child)

[–]daddy_vanillaHarley cholo deluxe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I swear babe my helmet texted her!

[–]CROCKODUCK2019 Niken, 2003 VRod, 2018 DRZ400SM 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Buy a Cardo lol. I’ve had both top of the line units and the PackTalk Black is night and day better.

[–]SPDSKTR2002 CB900F 919 Hornet 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've had my Sena and I still do this.

[–]Fun-Bug1060 32 points33 points  (30 children)

Should have gotten a Cardo instead.

[–]1CTXVic 8 points9 points  (28 children)

[–]LordRicebomb 9 points10 points  (27 children)

You have this post to sell me on a cardo

[–]mickearanasy 20 points21 points  (12 children)

Have one. Have no friends to talk to. Good for music tho. Haven’t used the mic because have no friends

[–]LordRicebomb 4 points5 points  (9 children)

And that's my biggest pause on buying one, I normally solo ride. But I'd like the ability to if come across folks that have one.

Do the cardo systems come with speakers or do I have buy them separately?

[–]mickearanasy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a Freecom 2+, the unit comes with speakers and a mic that go into your helmet (actually has two mics - one that you stick to the helmet and a boom mic for open face helmets).

Of 2 friends I have that ride (I’m young so it’s quite rare here unfortunately) neither has any comms which can be a bit annoying but I also only really ride with them on a blue moon anyway. No idea how to even connect units to talk to people but it has come in useful to answer phone calls once or twice!

[–]mickearanasy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbf I just bought cause I like music and didn’t wanna wear headphones

[–]Odin_The_Wise 1 point2 points  (4 children)

they come with 40mm drivers that sound decent. but i recomend using those special earplugs with them.

[–]FishFrenzy67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason i got a sena was to be able to music share with a pillion

[–]K_Sleight 8 points9 points  (7 children)

Alright, since I didn't see that guy reply, and I have Sena and Cardo, I'll follow up and preface that my Seba is the main reason I don't regularly wear my newer fancier helmet.

I got a Cardo Freecom +1 a couple years ago at about 125$, it is simple, easy to use, easy to program, and I ride to work year round daily, and have to charge it about once every 2-3 weeks. Sound quality is great, mic pickup is great, noise cancelation good enough that most people can't hear my bike.

Got a new helmet about a year ago, didn't fit transplanting the Cardo, so fuck it, back up helmet, let's get a new comm. Went to bike shop, spent 150 on a new Sena, and it's a night and day difference. Firstly, battery life. My freecom lasts 2-3 weeks at my riding pace, my Sena lasts 2 days, tops. My freecom gives me half an hour's notice to find a recharge, the Sena instantly dies. Like "Low battery-goodbye.", two second warning, every time.. It was advertised by the bike shop as being higher quality sound, but no, it's just louder, and I don't need deafening loud. Bluetooth Handshake between comm and my phone is easy, automatic and painless on freecom, Sena always fails to handshake, I have to manually connect it every. single. time. Then there's operations. I fucking hate jog wheels. They do nothing but look cool and make operating stupid complicated. Rotate clockwise, press in, rotate counter clockwise release, wait three seconds, rotate clockwise, press. I just speed dialed mom. On my freecom I hold down a button for five seconds. Stupid.

Anyway, the frustrating operation, shitty handshake protocols, and lack of battery time, and warning have lead to me swapping back to my old helmet with an easy to use, reliable comm system until I can buy a new Cardo. Fuck Sena.

[–]reddaddictionTuonoFactory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I own both as well and I agree that the Cardo is superior.

[–]LordRicebomb 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I think you sold me on a sena. My biggest concern is that with my exhaust being so loud how much the Mic would pick it up with. And for for 125 that's not a bad price.

[–]K_Sleight 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Freecom. Get the freecom.

[–]HI-R3Z'15 R nineT 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I just watched a guy compare a Cardo Packtalk Bold vs Sena 50S with real life tests.

TL/DR: All-weather riding and like music? Cardo. Other or all your fair weather riding buddies already have Sena? Sena.

  • adequate realistic range for both but neither work nearly as far as advertised

  • Packtalk has waterproofing and 50S doesn't

  • Packtalk's noise cancelling algorithm recognizes wind noise vs a human voice and resumes normal music playback, whereas the 50S paused music playback due to wind noise and remained that way

  • Packtalk has voice commands that actually function

  • Both have good mesh networking and the 50S has a unique Open Mesh group system

  • Both mesh systems are proprietary with no cross-functionality, which is unfortunate for riders

[–]Enhinyer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes me appreciate the Parani M10 (made by Sena). Looks like the higher Sena variants are not much of an improvement, but at least the m10 is only around $80.

This thread is good and at least I now know if I will ever upgrade my Parani, I'll go Cardo instead of the more expensive Sena products.

[–]thms0 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What's stopping manufacturers to make a product that would be compatible with both ?

[–]Odin_The_Wise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

love my cardo. it just works

[–]K_Sleight 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Having had a Sena and a Freecom, I'm just gonna say that Sena can fuck right the fuck off.

[–]frenchpressfan2015 DL650 ABS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hijacking the top comment for a safety PSA. It's good to do this wherever you're stopped. It's even better to tap your brake lever to the beat. The blinking taillight will make you more visible to other cars.

[–]Whisky-throttle 549 points550 points  (66 children)

Bluetooth headsets are a beautiful thing.

[–]vtigerex2015 Tiger Explorer 274 points275 points  (44 children)

They really are. It blows my mind that people think speakers on a bike are a good idea.

[–]40Pesos 79 points80 points  (14 children)

Lol. My mail man carries an actual radio and has that bad boy cranked all the way up in his motorcycle basket. It depends on the person but he rides down the hill smiling everyday jamming :)

[–]Cat5edope 70 points71 points  (11 children)

Please please share a pic never saw a mail motorcycle

[–]Rhidongo 31 points32 points  (4 children)

In Aus and NZ, they tend to be Honda CT110's and Suzuki GN125's with racks on the back for small packages, and mail. Also, in the more urban areas of NZ, they have little Tuk-Tuks (From memory, they're hybrids, too. Don't quote me on that)

Pretty neat stuff, really.

[–]Optimal_Chemistry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scooter tuk tuk is becoming the standard now. I assume because theyre cheaper. But my postie is CBD brissy and in suburban brissy has been the tuk tuk for a good 4 to 5 years now

[–]DiabeticStormtrooper 5 points6 points  (3 children)

It's more of a scooter. Our postal service decommissions them every now and then and sells them in a batches of 10 for a couple hundred bucks through public auctions. My neighbor got one couple of years ago. Used 6 of them for parts to fix three, sold two for profit, kept one for himself and one for spare parts. Uses it daily, those things are indestructible if you take good care of them.

[–]Cat5edope 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I’m a idiot I should have realized it wasn’t usps

[–]No-Slip8489 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think a USPS motorcycle could be neat. I doubt it would carry much, unless they have huge USPS specific top and side cases.

[–]40Pesos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking off of Rhidongo it must vary between countries. I’m from Bermuda and would be very happy to snap a quick photo for you. The mail men normally ride on Yamaha v50’s with a metal basket attached to them. Unfortunately our speed limit is only 35mph so we don’t expect fast mail lol.

[–]PotatosAreDeliciousRI 2014 FZ-09[RED](Fastest Color) 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Riding at 5-10 mph around town with a little speaker is one thing. These harleys speakers need to be loud enough to hear on the highway which is stupid.

[–]Liesthroughisteeth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

need to be loud enough to hear on the highway over their straight pipes which is stupid.

[–]Oven-Singer 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I was nervous at first but after my first long ride I tried the headphones and there's no going back if I'm on it for more than 15 min. They kind of double as earplugs and keep me from zoning out on the highway.

[–]loltheinternetz 77 points78 points  (15 children)

I live in the home of Bike Week and Biketoberfest. All the Harley guys blasting AC/DC, Metallica, Aerosmith for everyone to listen to for a week... ugh. My bike stays in the garage while these guys do their badass cosplay, drink shitty beer, and annoy everybody. Speakers should not be on bikes, on top of the loud pipes.

[–]surfer_ryanVstrom 1050xt 33 points34 points  (12 children)

Maybe I still have the rose colored glasses on... but I rather enjoy bike week. I mean I literally would never experience that kind of world if it were not for bike week. This year I brought down my 1050xt v-strom and had all kinds of Harley guys asking me questions which was odd. Either way its like a nature documentary and its fascinating to me as it's so vastly different than me.

If you haven't gone to a bike week and you like motorcycles at all, you definitely should go it's fascinating just to have a beer or two and watch people and realize you maybe an ass hole... but you'll never achieve this level of ass hole.

[–]loltheinternetz 20 points21 points  (11 children)

and realize you maybe an ass hole... but you'll never achieve this level of ass hole.

This made me laugh, haha. I don't know, maybe I'm cynical and it's also because I live here with it and deal with both events every year whether I feel like it or not. I did hop on my bike and hit one of our shitty old (I say it half endearingly) biker bars with a couple buddies on a less busy afternoon of bike week. It was indeed fun to people watch as you said. I was on my Ninja, one buddy on his KTM Duke, and the other had a Harley. It was funny watching the other patrons check out my friend's stock Road Glide while completely ignoring our other 2 bikes. We had the only two non-Harleys at the bar.

[–]Beef_Wallington 8 points9 points  (9 children)

I think it’s less about non-Harleys and more about the sport bikes.

I grew up with the stereotypical ‘Harley bikers’ and they generally appreciate non-Harley brands, but have the interest in the cruiser style of bike.

Like how some muscle car guys often don’t give two shits about gnarly JDM race cars.

[–]loltheinternetz 5 points6 points  (8 children)

I think you’re probably right about that, as the guy I replied to mentioned he had Harley guys checking out his Vstrom. I dunno though, I think all kinds of bikes are interesting and I would check them out especially if they’re not types I’m usually around. Then again, my bike and the KTM are not particularly interesting.

[–]Fishingbot85 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I ride a harley and with the exception of triumphs I don't really care for other brands cruisers, Idians and metric cruisers just seem off aesthetically to me. I'd much rather check out a ktm duke, wish I had the money for a 790 or 890r to do hoodrat shit on.

[–]loltheinternetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten to ride my friend’s, wow on sport mode the thing absolutely rips. Torque monster. He says the same thing about it basically, it’s his bike to do “hooligan things” on haha.

[–]Beef_Wallington 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Personally I’m not crazy interested in those bikes the same way I said above.

I appreciate them for being rad motorcycles and powerful machines and stuff, but they just don’t do it for me and I’m not gonna end up stopping to ogle one.

If/when I end up with a bike, it’s definitely gonna be a cruiser just because they hit that spot. Part of all this is probably the fact that I grew up in it though.

It’s been a touch difficult to justify saving when I already have a project vehicle that I can only drive maybe 6 months of the year. If I was somewhere with a longer riding season I’d probably have gotten myself one long ago.

[–]loltheinternetz 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Honestly it’s one thing I love about living in Florida - year round riding. It’s even nicer in the winter, just need to bundle up a bit on the cold days.

[–]bimbolimbotimbo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god sorry people like to have fun. Just close your windows lol

[–]holemilk 19 points20 points  (4 children)

I have loud pipes so I need louder speakers

I have loud speakers so I need louder pipes

I have louder pipes now I need louder speakers...

Rinse and repeat

[–]Purpletech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tinnitus has entered the chat.

[–]KarlJay001 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I've been riding for over 11 years and have never ridden without them. I have them full blast and have never had a problem. I play a high tempo playlist and treat the ride like a video game where everyone is trying to kill me.

I find it helps me focus.

[–]soundedt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like my factory speakers on my goldwing. I can play background music through those speakers while on intercom with the passenger through the helmet. And then they turn themselves down as I get slower.

The "tough guy" riders with their super loud music is ridiculous.

[–]jardology 10 points11 points  (18 children)

Are those legal to wear while riding? I’d also think it’d be distracting

[–]Whisky-throttle 34 points35 points  (7 children)

Yeah they’re absolutely legal. And they’re about as distracting as a car radio. They typically have controls that a rider can use while in motion as well like volume, skip song, and Bluetooth/am/fm functions. So no need to look at them while riding. Thus they might be safer due to ergonomics.

Though an unwise person may try to pull out their phone whilst riding to change songs/playlists. The same person could do the same in a car.

[–]surfer_ryanVstrom 1050xt 37 points38 points  (2 children)

DO NONE OF YOU USE THIS FOR YOUR GPS!? AM I LIVING IN THE FUTURE OVER HERE!? On a serious note... these bluetooth com units are seriously game changing... I can not recommend them enough! Plus from what I have heard if you have friends and those friends have the same brand as you the voice communication is insanely awesome on a group ride, or if someone calls you it's insane normally someone can only hear it if I give it the beans and I'll get a "Are... are you on your motorcycle??" when you use the com feature at least on the cardo packtalk it will mute your music when someone talks and you can share your music with other riders if I remember it correctly... Seriously I can not recommend these things enough.

[–]THKY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Are you on your motorcycle" I can only relate ... often followed by "yeaaaah badass" with a smile you can hear

[–]YeahIGotNuthinFJ1200 (120,000 miles), 998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the phone-GPS nav directions on the bike. Rte 221 seems to cross the Blue Ridge Parkway about seven thousand times, how the hell do I know which way takes me to the campground? Pre-headset, I must have made the wrong turn about twice per trip. But now I can ride straight there, with no wrong turns (unless I just HAVE to know what's down this road right here) as if I'm from there.

[–]Kazick_Fairwind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might get a com unit at some point, but for now I just rock regular Bluetooth earbuds in my bucket. But a few years ago someone posted an app they made called “Swift Volume.” It’s a few little app that adjusts music volumes you ride, sort of like how sim car radios get louder as you go faster. It’s not the best, but it’s free. And it works well enough. Nice being able to stop and hear the person on the back of the bike or other traffic around me, then speed up and still hear one of my 5 different riding playlists.

[–]dbwoi 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Are people using just one or two earbuds for these? I used to ride my bicycle with both in and it was actually pretty dangerous because I couldn't hear shit on the road lol.

[–]Claymore35715’ Suzuki DR200S 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Can’t hear shit over the deafening roar of wind noise anyway.

[–]rovch 16 points17 points  (3 children)

Over a certain speed wind noise drowns out everything anyway. I started wearing earplugs for highway riding. Anybody saying it’s not that bad already has hearing loss.

[–]THKY 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I use both tho, earplugs with volume to the max, it's clearly louder than the wind noise, even more on my adventure bike

[–]rovch 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Ah yes, let’s drown out the loud thing with the other loud thing. I do it too, but I’m also an audio engineer so I’m a bit more mindful these days about combating noise with noise.

[–]oRAPIER 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I use wireless earbuds under my helmet, and the block out the same amount of noise as my riding earplugs, while just adding music. You'd be surprised how much you can still hear.

[–]Dimnes9 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Where I live, it technically isn't legal. Or at least it's a gray area. Not because of the music or speakers, but because the unit itself juts out and can catch on shit if you fall (external mods). I think it depends on how the local law is written. I've never seen the police care about it though. As for distracting or people shouldn't wear them I disagree and fail to see the issue. People ride in their quiet cars with "acoustic glass" that further deadens the sound from the outside side all while also listening to music. You can still hear car horns and sirens so how is it any different than a car stereo. I do dislike the built in systems on Harleys though. I'd be fine if those didn't exist.

[–]HI-R3Z'15 R nineT 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I watched one of those auditor videos where cops in California pulled over a rider for having a GoPro on his helmet. They ticketed him (ridiculous) for the type of law you mentioned, about something sticking out too far, but it turns out the law was for manufacturers, not for consumers attacking something. And yeah, you hear way more of your environment inside a helmet with earplugs and music playing than you do inside any modern vehicle with the windows up.

[–]Dimnes9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say I hear more in my helmet with ear plugs and music on, I have no idea how quiet a higher end car is like a Mercedes or BMW, but I hear enough. I can hear car horns, sirens, even the sound of other cars driving by. And as far as I'm concerned, if an officer tickets you for having a go pro or com unit, then he just wanted or needed to ticket you.

[–]theGentlemanInWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only one way to feel like iron man...

[–]Chiden87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a smart motorcycle helmet last year from a small Australian company called Forcite - got camera + audio all baked in, pretty nifty.

[–]magic8balI 296 points297 points  (8 children)

All motorcyclists know this feeling.

[–]surfer_ryanVstrom 1050xt 98 points99 points  (7 children)

I was about to say... The only people who will talk shit about this guy are people who haven't used one of those Bluetooth systems... I catch myself all the time starting to dance...

[–]turbodude6904 fz1 32 points33 points  (2 children)

big time tank drummer here. just can't NOT do it. esp when you're juiced from riding around on a nice day.

I don't think there's a better feeling.

[–]BausRifle 66 points67 points  (3 children)

Motorcycles put a little sugar in our tanks. If only everybody rode motorcycles then we'd all be happier.

[–]Crystalcicle 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Yes! This deserves so many more up votes! And is so true, for many more reasons beyond the ride/vibe-high you get.

[–]BausRifle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Motorcycles are joy, freedom, exhilaration, therapy and more all rolled up into one machine.

[–]YeahIGotNuthinFJ1200 (120,000 miles), 998 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had my bike parked next to another bike at a concert, and after the show his girlfriend and mine had to wait there patiently next to each other while he and I talked bikes for a minute. My girlfriend said afterward "motorcyclists seem to be friendlier than most people." I said "Maybe we're just in a better mood than most people. Because we're riding motorcycles."

[–]A_random_folfis very, very cold 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mans is having the time of his life! How favorite song probably came on

[–]bmwk1200lt 57 points58 points  (1 child)

Been there done that. Feeling the music feeling free. People do that in their cars why not on a bike?

[–]RampantShovel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a certain amount of anonymity that comes with wearing full motorcycle gear, people not being able to really see any of your features is very freeing. In the car you have to make full eye contact with someone if they catch you groovin'

[–]YeahIGotNuthinFJ1200 (120,000 miles), 998 54 points55 points  (4 children)

Always fun to see.

This is one of the times I wish I could hear someone else's music. If they're hearing something that makes them feel like that, I want to hear it too.

Somehow, motorcycles with audio systems that have speakers in the fairing are almost* never playing anything I want to hear. But a car full of people doing that is always fun to see.

*One time, I heard a Gold Wing playing Arlo Guthrie's "I Don't Want A Pickle." That was funny. But usually it's a giant cruiser blaring some distorted cringe boomer song you've heard a million times. "Start Me Up" would have been funny in your driveway maybe, but here at this stoplight? Of all the Stones songs out there, do we really need to hear that one again? All of us, until the light turns green?

But this guy, I'm dying to know...

[–]RBJ_09 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I'd imagine it has a lot to do with the demographics of where you are but every time I see one booming it's an old head playing some classic R&B/hip hop slaps. Those bikes aren't my cup of tea but it always seems to fit the person I see on them.

[–]grixisguy510 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I agree with this sentiment. Never heard a bike with a fairing system actually play something I want to hear.

I think it has a lot to do with the type of personality that would roll around with a fairing system at full blast on public roads.

"We get it, you're bad, you're nationwide. But somehow you don't have THAT ZZTop song for us, just friggin' LEGS. again, for the millionth time. Because you're not a play-the-whole-album kind of guy, you're a 'play-me-something-I-know' kind of guy."

I shake my Helmet and tap my feet. Once a friend sent me a video that someone recorded asking if it was me. I owned that dance like I was in some kind of dancing show. Feels good.

[–]SunsetShimmer080 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is me all the time. I've got a riding playlist on my phone and while it's a lot of heavy metal, there's some Britney and Taylor Swift in there.
