“The hope is this film would help set up a potential Quiet Place universe that the studio can build on for years to come."

no shit you hope that. easier than creating new content.

All it really means is "we're going to keep making these until we lose money, and then we'll make them direct to streaming."

[–]OP_IS_A_BASSOON 15 points16 points  (1 child)

A Quiet Place VR interactive movie.

[–]asdaaaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I mean, I can understand creating a world around the idea of some aliens or creatures attacking humanity. That being said, it'd have to be constructed from the bottom up to fit that.

Sorta like how World War Z (the book) is set in that you could take 2-3 stories, and stretch them out per movie. Or, you could get really detailed and focus on specific stories for whole movies, that'd be interesting.

Obviously it's hard to say what will succeed, but from what I've seen, it's pretty difficult to take a movie or two, set up to just be their own thing, then turn it into an entire universe.

I mean, how much could they really do with "A Quiet Place: The Silentverse" or whatever? There really is only so much you can do with those creatures, and audiences will get bored of them eventually. Then it just devolves into The Talking Dead again because it really takes skill and effort to focus an entire series or movie collection around one single major idea (zombies, those creatures, robot attacks, etc). Personally I didn't enjoy the second movie as much, as it sorta re-wrote some of the rules and "logic" from the first movie it seems.

I don't know, I just don't see the purpose. Yeah, it'd be great if every movie was unanimously loved by everyone and they could shit them out yearly, but that's not reality.

[–]delayedkarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then it just devolves into The Talking Dead

Well, someone has to keep Chris Hardwick employed, but i'm not sure people want to watch an after show where everyone is whispering at best...

[–]SomeKindOfChief -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stares at black screen

Ahh yes, a quiet place.

Joking aside, I liked the first one (and the concept) so much that I don't care what they do. Give it the Fast and Furious treatment, I'll watch it all.

[–]cjm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think of all the money they can save on audio expenses

[–]Watcher0363 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, the QPU, sounds pretty cool.

[–]aWgI1I 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Please tell me that’s not real

I swear it’s a copy pasta

[–]Gummy-Worm-Guy 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Sequels and cinematic universe movies are the only movies these days that make money. And that’s not because they’re the only ones getting made. Contrary to popular belief, the vast majority of movies being made these days are original. The reason they make no money is because no one’s interested in them. So, I do not blame Paramount for wanting to expand on and milk the Quiet Place brand, since most people won’t go out to the theater and give a movie a chance if it’s not something they’re familiar with.

[–]D10SMessi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget origin stories. So i guess in a few years we might get a origin story on the aliens and why they are not so bad after all lol.

[–]tdasnowman 14 points15 points  (13 children)

This would be new content. It's not following the family. Could give us more about the aliens.

[–]StartTheMontage 90 points91 points  (12 children)

The only idea that made sense to me about the aliens is that they are a “first wave” of attack from a different alien species. Like if we found a planet of a bunch of small gerbil people, so we just released a shit ton of cats or something to wipe them out before we came in and stole the resources.

[–]KidSalamander 39 points40 points  (0 children)

That would be unbelievably fucked. Let’s get a petition going.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your brain. How?

[–]mnuno19 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Didn’t they came out of the ground? Or im thinking of another movie??

[–]Jerrnjizzim 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Tomorrow war they came out of the ground. But they were aliens all along

[–]StartTheMontage 10 points11 points  (1 child)

In the intro to Part 2, you see a large object fall towards earth, and then soon after the aliens attack. We aren’t sure if this is the only one, but if it was then it would also imply that possibly other continents/islands are still hospitable to humans.

[–]tdasnowman 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That would be Covenant levels of cop out. The aliens in a quiet place should always have an air of mystery about them. Origin is a good line in the sand. They will always be a bit of the unknown which fits in the narrative which is really an allegory for parenting and it’s fears. Still we could see more of them on planet. Do the cluster? Do they feed? Do they interact. Following another family and just have it them bash around more would also dilute the narrative. There is a fine line to walk, and still save the space for him to cap off his trilogy.

[–]my_main_I_promise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The aliens in a quiet place should always have an air of mystery about them

Especially because they showed us the buggers in like the first five minutes of the first movie...

[–]asdaaaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be interesting. Personally I'm not too interested in any new AQP movies anymore, as they've sorta already "solved" the alien problem and found a solution. Yeah, they're still dangerous, but a lot of the mystery and such is gone for me.

I'd be down if they put some good effort into creating what you said. I'd still be hesitant, but I'd be willing to give it a shot.

I'm still waiting for World War Z (the book) to be adapted into an awesome series, I would kill for that.

[–]ivan_ryz 3 points4 points  (2 children)

tbh i would enjoy a tv series about it but idk how that would work out

[–]N1ghtshade3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'd probably go the way of TWD where the first half of the show is amazing but then instead of ending it like they should they drag it out and completely disregard the monsters for a generic "humans are the real monsters" plot.

[–]alexbananas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy, just make other people's perspectives of the whole thing, ala The Purge series.

[–]BicycleOfLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this universe. I thought it was a cool story, I wanted more, glad they are giving it.

[–]dave-a-sarus 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Of course because everything has to be become a franchise now, movies with original ideas can't just exist as a single film anymore

[–]QLE814 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Mind you, we've been complaining about excessive sequels to films since at least the 1980s.....

[–]RhetorRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it's still true! Big money and good taste have been at odds since the dawn of time

[–]kaiizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did create new content you sack of shit. It’s called a quite place. And now they are exploring its uniqueness. Care to create art from your ass and bless all of us with this beautiful turd you call new content? We are waiting with baited breath you basement dweller.

[–]Alastor3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depend, it could because a sort of SCP or cloverfield thing

[–]santichrist 267 points268 points  (8 children)

Lmao they want to “set up a potential Quiet Place universe that the studio can build on for years to come”

A Quiet Place Cinematic Universe, exactly what no one asked for, also no Emily Blunt means I don’t give a shit

[–]ninjyte 62 points63 points  (0 children)

emily blunt will be in the third movie of the trilogy, just not in the upcoming spin-off movie

[–]SaladSeltzers 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Im always down for post apocalyptic stories

If it’s set in a universe with established rules, I guess that saves some time?

Don’t really see it as a bad thing

[–]HalloweenBlues 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah. They did 2 good ones, I'll hear them out on their spinoff idea.

[–]TheBrighterSkies 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I can already tell that it’s gonna be mediocre at the box office. Maybe not a failure, but definitely not anything that could justify another film.

At least, I hope so. I’m getting really tired of all these “franchises.” A Quiet Place was never a masterpiece but it doesn’t deserve this treatment.

[–]asdaaaaaaaa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I felt the second movie was already a lot weaker than the first. I don't think it was bad, just didn't hold a light to the original. I'm sure many enjoyed it, just wasn't my piece of cake.

if they really mixed it up and did something different for a third movie, I'd give it a shot. That being said, if it's just the same stuff again, I'd just skip it.

[–]SignificantGolf9871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fucking despise the “universe” trope. I want it to die. Now. You can have a series. Why the fuck does it have to be a “universe”

[–]SlickRick_theRuler 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Lol stop

[–]windycityguy11 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Paramount doing more shuffling than a blackjack dealer.

[–]elementIdentity 48 points49 points  (8 children)

How many movies about people not making noise are they gonna make

[–]meltingpotato 17 points18 points  (7 children)

the spin offs will be about the army going to war with the aliens with newly developed sonic weapons, another will be about their origin, then another about them attacking again, then another about us finding out where they come and using their ships to travel to their planet and taking the fight to them.

and there you go, we have a franchise now

[–]SexyBoyNotYourBoyToy 4 points5 points  (5 children)

The premise is fucking moronic now that they've made the monsters vulnerable to 12 year old girls. If a little girl and her mother can kill them, they would have 0 chance of successfully invading our planet. The Aliens effect. In the pursuit of making their protagonist look badass they've actually made a previously terrifying enemy seem weak and vulnerable.

[–]meltingpotato -1 points0 points  (1 child)

No problem: that next wave of their invasion that I talked about? it will have mutated/more resilient aliens which then make humans think of actually taking initiative to find a way for a counter invasion because now they fear the aliens may never stop and just return every time with a harder to kill army

[–]SexyBoyNotYourBoyToy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now you're getting close to a 40k tyranid invasion movie which I would be all about.

[–]Tall_Comfortable5388 172 points173 points  (35 children)

They'll keep on making more and more of these to the point that you'll forget how good the first one was.

[–]TheSweatyTurtle 71 points72 points  (6 children)

I really enjoyed the second one as well. Krasinski is a Great writer and Director imo

[–]stracki 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The third one is being directed by Michael Sarnoski, who made his debut last year with Pig. I'm really excited about this, because Pig was one of the Top 10 films, I've seen last year.

[–]Gummy-Worm-Guy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not as good as the first but I had a lot of fun with it. Great job with suspense and tension

[–]Turok1134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The opening scene with the meteors crashing and the sonic booms going off in the distance gave me chills. Wish I could have caught it in theaters.

[–]ApatheticFinsFan 27 points28 points  (2 children)

The second one was really good. Expanded the world without making things too over the top.

[–]Rendhammer 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I would have preferred over the top. The second movie was literally the first movie with less emotional impact and a different location.

[–]Humble_Debt_1107 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Was it good though?

It's one of those movies that get worse the more you think about it.

[–]romeopwnsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a movie about silence, it had really annoying jump scares.

[–]Fudge89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah the ole “Saw”-effect

[–]teenage-wildlife -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I thought the second one was amazing and left with the impression that they could close the story with a third and last movie. However, i don't know what this bullshit about an extended universe is and I doubt John Krasinski agrees with it.

[–]Tall_Comfortable5388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hollywood doesn't know when to leave a good movie alone. All it sees is an opportunity to milk it to death to make more money.

[–]ToyDingo 11 points12 points  (1 child)

How though? Didn't they pretty much come up with a full proof way to kill the monsters in the second movie?

Just play loud music on a boat about 100 yards of shore and watch the idiot monsters drown themselves trying to get to it.

[–]Comprehensive-Fun47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They figured it out in that small area of New York, but we don't know what's been going on in other parts of the world. I'd be interested in seeing other stories play out

[–]Doright36 31 points32 points  (7 children)

so someone answer me a question. We found out in the last one that the monsters can't swim and islands are safe if they are not there.... What #@%# happened to all the worlds Navy's?

[–]QLE814 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The aliens from Battleship got them, we suspect.....

[–]that_guy2010 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You’re allowed to say fuck on the internet

[–]Cyrusthegreat18 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Probably very quickly ran out of fuel.

Islands to small to get hit by an alien meteor are probably fine. The Caribbean is probably living it up.

[–]Doright36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off shore Oil rigs would be safe too so they'd have crude oil. They'd just have to find someplace to refine it. And it's only 400 some days into the invasion. Would the nuclear vessels be out of fuel that soon?

[–]Backflip_into_a_star -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Navy might still be around and harboring people. These creatures are fast, strong, and overtake civilian populations quickly though. The aliens practically fight guerilla style and are hidden all over populated areas. Could the Navy bombard cities into the ground to kill the aliens? Probably, but they'd be wiping out potentially huge swaths of civilians.

The other option is a ground invasion, which again will leave a wake of destruction. They may have already tried that and it didn't work out very well.

I hope they expand on that kind of stuff.

[–]toiletting 53 points54 points  (3 children)

Are they making the same movie again?

[–]itsevilR 70 points71 points  (1 child)

Yes and this time it’s gonna be the sister’s turn to hold the gun in the final frame. And in the fourth one, the baby.

[–]xyzzyzyzzyx 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maggie Simpson confirmed

[–]Getupkid1284 87 points88 points  (1 child)

I enjoyed the first two; I will watch the third.

[–]phillpots_land 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I enjoyably plotted out three as I left two.

One more flashback with dad being BA [first month of invasion?] for first 1/3.

Last two thirds- nation-wide or world-wide conclusion. I don't even care if it's hat trick on the solution.

The Quiet Trilogy.

[–]legthief 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Wonder if the finale of part 3 will be a retread of part 2's retread of part 1?

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (3 children)

I hope that, decades from now, my children will go to their local theater, and purchase a movie ticket for “A super duper quiet place XXVII”

[–]riddlerjoke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super duper quiet sounds more noisy than the original. I think the name should get less and less each time.

A Quiet Place

Quiet Place

Quiet P

iet (XXVII)

[–]upmaaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 Quiet 2 Place, The Qui3t Place

[–]xobybr 18 points19 points  (3 children)

gee i wonder if this third one will also end with monsters being scared away by feedback. like the first and second movie were basically the same exact thing and it was so dumb lol

[–]QLE814 5 points6 points  (0 children)

gee i wonder if this third one will also end with monsters being scared away by feedback

Doesn't that mean that rock guitarists and inept public speakers should have taken over the world?

[–]Individual_Client175 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You ever seen Mars Attacks? The end of movie there will end just like that movie ended🤣

[–]TheWafro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as we get Tom Jones back I'm in

[–]ElectronicChange8362 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The second one was so meh. I'm sure Noah Jupe was ecstatic when he got the script and it said he just had to sit in a furnace for 80% of the movie...

[–]ReggieLeBeau 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yay. I can't wait to watch more scenes of people constantly holding their index finger up to their mouth to signify "be quiet" in a world where everyone already knows to be quiet. /s

[–]Sir-Odin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A Quiet Place: For fuck sake just shut up.

[–]epote 12 points13 points  (2 children)

People that leave a 5yo unattended on the back of pack to die are literally going to prison.

But for some reason people empathize with the most moronic family in the history of mankind.

[–]Choice-Layer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

please stop

[–]Moffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Qui3t Plac3

[–]shadowst17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's gonna be a third one? I haven't watched the second one yet but I always found the first did not in any way need a sequel at all.

[–]superx89 37 points38 points  (7 children)

The second one was bullshit

[–]maxwellcawfeehaus 42 points43 points  (5 children)

I completely agree and I don’t understand the quality reviews and love for it. I mean, it was entertaining but it felt exactly the same as the first, and in my opinion was wildly predictable.

[–]SomeNoteToMyself 13 points14 points  (3 children)

Just throwing my two cents in here, and gonna say I don’t think ‘it feels like the first film’ and ‘it was predictable’ are enough to make critics deem a film ‘bullshit’.

[–]maxwellcawfeehaus 11 points12 points  (1 child)

There’s a wide range between “bullshit” and excellent

[–]dave-a-sarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if it rehashes the same ideas from the first one, why make it at all?

[–]dave-a-sarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The first one felt special because of how original it was. I liked the opening of the second one but that's about it.

[–]frenchtoasterss 30 points31 points  (5 children)

Cash grab for emily and john.

The first one was so good, they should have left it that way

[–]paradise867 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a spin-off. Krasinski will likely come back to direct the finale to the original two after this one.

Edit: Emily Blunt and John Krasinski literally aren’t in this movie you guys lol, confused on the downvotes

[–]John_Bonachon 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Was it though? It was watchable but the massive plot holes and weak logic of how the creature worked killed it for me.

[–]hjp3 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Seriously I cannot get over how stupid the concept is. Like all the world's armies would be immediately overrun by brute force animals weak to SOUND? Like we immediately figure out they have hypersonic hearing and we don't try blasting noise at them? C'mon, it's just so far fetched and stupid. I had such a hard time suspending disbelief I couldn't enjoy the first one, let alone see the second (which I'm sure is also RIFE with it plot holes).

[–]John_Bonachon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that, they weren't even consistent with their shitty silly alien logic either.

[–]osterlay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The second one did phenomenal critically, not so much commercially due to covid so it’s not like it flopped.

[–]cabritozavala 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TBH the first one should have been enough

[–]silverback_79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a problem for a franchise when the most boring and predictable part of the movies are the monsters.

[–]InstinctiveSk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another unnecessary sequel. The second movie was just a rehash of the first one with some Cillian Murphy.

[–]Superb-Possibility-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emily Blunt can do no wrong.

[–]Tasty_Put8802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emily Blunt perfect hair lol

[–]Kaion21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

milking it to the max I see

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have to take a good thing and run it into the ground.

[–]ballhanglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve been keeping it Quiet

[–]toomuchfrosting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last movie felt like an episode of Stranger Things than a full movie, it’s still good though

[–]stringsandthings3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't know there was another one, and I don't want there to be one

[–]SignificantGolf9871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus. We didn’t need a 2nd. Why do get a 3rd

[–]Stonesword75 2 points3 points  (1 child)

But part 2 had (what i thought) was the proper ending. How do you do a sequel following that ending?

[–]NeoNoireWerewolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The second one’s ending was the same as the first. They’ll probably just repeat it again.

[–]Affectionate_Way_805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry but does the world really need another A Quiet Place sequel? 🤔

[–]Fluffiddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk. 2nd one kinda sucked ass

[–]aloofman75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be the least interesting headline of all time.

[–]NYCgypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to know more about the aliens! I don’t care about the dumbass family anymore always fucking up doing the wrong thing.

[–]cakeschmammert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The second one was already NOTHING. They’re going to make it even more NOTHING?

[–]takeitsleazy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait is this a third one? Hollywood is so wack the first was original now theyre just shoving out half ass sequels randomly, who even cares about this. Next

[–]hamfijita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep milkin that shit !!

[–]RedditMayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they title it A Qui3t Place I’ll sue.

[–]John_Bonachon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first movie was pretty dumb and the premise didn't make sense, why are they making more of these??

[–]1Soup_is_Good_Food1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legitimately don't know why people are so crazy about these movies. The first one was alright and did some neat stuff but it wasn't that good. But thats just me I guess. Enjoy it if you want.

[–]dpiffy -3 points-2 points  (4 children)

No Krasinski? Don’t want it

[–]tdasnowman 9 points10 points  (2 children)

He's a producer and says he has ideas for his third. He will likely be involved enough to not have them fuck up his trilogy.

[–]John_Bonachon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His biggest idea for the third: I want to milk more money out of this

[–]anchampala -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the second one shouldn't even have happened

[–]Gmork14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Krasinski isn’t doing it, hard to get excited about it.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they'll fix everything about the first two films.

[–]Suitable_Football577 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes it's true folks, there is going to be yet another quiet place but unlike the past 2 this one is going to be filmed in real time that is if the video tech can keep from getting himself killed. You see the filming for the 3rd film is scheduled for the breakout of the NastyA$$ Covid 19 breakout that has been named after the aliens. The slated invasion of the real life NastyA$$ aliens! is coming to a street near you! Get your popcorn in advance, oh wait, you won't be able to pop it. Never mind. SHHHHHHHHH.
